Want to take the kids or grandkids to the park, but don’t have any toys? Rent a Playground in a Bag. Call the office at 225-4095 to schedule a time to build your own bag from our supplies which range from frisbees to soccer balls and wiffleballs, including badminton and volleyball net. A/B COED DIVISION Experienced players are expected to pass, set, attack & block, handle the ball cleanly and use and understand offensive and defensive strategies. NOTE: Rosters of new A/B team(s) that did not participate in previous season will be evaluated within one week after registration.

Kajukenbo is a combined self-defense martial arts style created in Hawaii by five martial arts practitioners with diverse styles and cultural backgrounds. Kajukenbo utilizes traditional and modern methods incorporating Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Kenpo and Boxing (European and Chinese) with emphasis on real life self-protection skills. The training teaches discipline and respect, promotes self-esteem and develops personal achievement. Kajukenbo also enhances coordination, balance, flexibility, agility and confidence. Join our 3 on 3 basketball league this summer! Don’t have enough people to field a full team? 3-on-3 Basketball combines the convenience of pickup basketball with the intensity of intramural t-shirt competition. This series of five guided mountain bike rides are located on each of the beginner and intermediate routes of the Mayor’s Mountain Bike Challenge. This class is designed to inspire and encourage you and your family and friends to enjoy Redding’s mountain bike trails. Join the craze, learn the fastest growing sport in the country and have some fun! Pickleball is a racket sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis, played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court. Three Cheeses in Three Hours Ever wondered how to make cheese at home? Learn to make three distinct and delicious types of cheese: mozzarella, burrata, and instructor’s choice. This three-hour class walks you through the history of cheesemaking, important facts about milk quality and differences, as well as the complex biology and chemistry behind turning milk into tasty cheese curds and protein-rich whey. Students will gain the confidence and knowledge to reproduce the same results at home. Handouts include recipes, frequently asked questions and resources. Bring 1 or 2-quart jars for whey. Instructor’s Profile Benita Moore, owner/instructor of Aunt Bee’s Kitchen, grew up on a farm in the San Joaquin Valley preserving food from the garden and orchard with her mother and grandmother. She is certified in Food Service Technology from Shasta College, worked as a Chef’s Apprentice at the Redding Red Lion Inn, and is a Certified Cook with the American Culinary Federation. Benita most recently trained with the UCCE Master Food Preservers in food safety and current home food preservation methods. Her mission is to teach people how to safely and deliciously put up food, and support the local farming community. Learn to launch a 22’ Sailboat, properly operate an outboard motor, rig it for sailing, sail the boat, break down the sails, approach the dock, and trailer.

I’m Loved Originals!! Mosaics Ages 10 to Adult Angie has created a unique way of mosaic, using mortar and grout as the base of her “I’m loved Originals!!” mosaics. In this 3 session beginner class, you will learn the traditional way and Angie’s way to mosaic flowers, abstracts or your own design on your choice of a bowling ball, large tile or flower pot that will be completed and yours at the end of the 3rd class. The insctructor will supply all the necessary materials needed to make your own mosaic. Including stained glass, ceramics, rocks, pebbles, grout, mortar, nippers, glue and all mixing supplies. This fast-paced, athletic week offers traditional and non-traditional sports, fitness inspired classes, team competitions, explorations, and, water play for all skill levels and abitlites. Start by floating down the Sacramento River from the Sundial Bridge to the Anderson River Park. North Country Raft Rental will shuttle participants to the Redding Aquatic Center for an afternoon of swimming, sliding, diving, wibit fun, and other water games. Bring a swim suit and towel.

Redding Trail Alliance will be teaching us at both Caldwell Jr Park Pump Track and Swasey Recreation Park all the ins and outs of Mountain Biking. This will be for both the beginner and the experienced as we navigate the Mountain Biking courses at our own pace. This two day clinic will be both challenging and rewarding as we catch big air on all of the awesome jumps. Open only to children riding a pedal bike. Bike, helmet and pads are required.

Tennis Summer Academies Ages 7-17

Spend the summer outside learning about our local environment, building outdoor skills, and going on adventures both by trail and lake. Children will learn the basics of kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, and practice other skills such as: knot tying, navigation, recognizing local plants and animal species, fire structure set up, bear hangs, shelter building, boating and outdoor safety, and environmental science. Note: Participants must physically be able to hike 3-4 miles and are required to bring lunch, water, two snacks a day, and sturdy footwear. Participant drop off is based on activities for the day and will flux between: Enterprise Park, Simpson University, and Whiskeytown. Registration begins April 2! Day

Redding Colt 45s Baseball Camp Winning Edge Football Skills Camp Ages 8-14

Campers will be exposed to all areas of the game by the Colt 45s players and coaches. The players are from elite college baseball programs around the country staying in Redding and playing on Tiger Field all summer long. “The Boys of Summer” will share their experience, skills, knowledge and work ethic that has gotten them to this elite level.

Hosted by former Division-1 quarterback and high school football coach, Eric Smith. This 2-day camp will introduce foundational offensive and defensive football skills as well as leadership concepts and strategies.

Boys and Girls Ages 5-13

This FREE program is made possible by the Giants Community Fund and the City of Redding. Summer baseball for boys and girls 5-13 years of age (age as of July 1, 2018) promotes skill and character development in a recreational atmosphere. This instructional baseball program features the Four Bases of Character Development (integrity, teamwork, leadership, and confidence) and will require your involvement in summer reading, healthy eating, and violence prevention. Parent volunteers are needed to manage and coach teams, and assist with team responsibilities and field/facility maintenance. Teams will be formed into the following age groups:

N.F.L. Flag Football League Ages 6-14

Are you ready for some football? Join the fun of N.F.L. Flag Football! For boys and girls 6 to 14 years of age (age on 9/1/18). Everyone plays in this non-contact style of flag football that emphasizes passing, catching, running and play strategies. League games are played on Saturday mornings from September 15 through November 3 at Caldwell Park with an end of season tourney on November 10. Teams may practice beginning the week of August 20 as arranged by coaches. Players may request coaches and teammates but there is no guarantee of placement. This series of five guided mountain bike rides are located on each of the beginner and intermediate routes of the Mayor’s Mountain Bike Challenge. Shasta Rowing Association Inc., is a 501C3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the education of the art of Olympic style rowing. Whether you are a seasoned vet or have never tried it before, we welcome everyone to join us and become a part of this exciting sport. Participants should dress appropriately for the weather, must have basic swimming skills, must have watched the US Rowing safety video, and should be prepared to wade up to mid-thigh in the water. Aquatic footwear is recommended as is water, snacks, and a change of clothes. Parked vehicles must follow the Whiskeytown parking regulations, see park website for details. Intro to Rowing The Intro to Rowing class is designed to get people on the water and experience Olympic style rowing. Summer Adventures Junior Counselor training is a service learning program for teens that enjoy helping children learn and have fun in a safe environment. SUP: Stand Up Paddleboarding Clinic Ages 8 and older

This class is designed as an introduction to the sport. Participants will learn proper paddling, safety, maneuvers, and familiarize themselves with Stand-Up Paddleboarding. SUP is an emerging global sport with a Hawaiian heritage. It utilizes a one-bladed paddle, while standing on a normal length surfboard. SUP has moved out of the surf zone and into inland waterways around the country. Flat water SUPing is a healthy, low-impact, and environmentally friendly paddle sport that appeals to both the young and the young-at-heart. Redding Recreation Division is excited to announce that our Summer, 2018 class offerings are available for ONLINE registration now! For your convenience, we have moved to a new Online Registration System. If you have not already done so, log on to www.reddingrecreation.org to register for most classes, camps, sports leagues and events. Follow the easy steps on the online tutorial and you will be on your way to experiencing all that Redding Recreation has to offer.

WALK-IN REGISTRATION The Recreation Office is located at 777 Cypress Avenue, second floor. Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm (closed some holidays).

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

• Pre-registration, prior to first class, and full payment is required for all activities, unless otherwise stated.

• Please register one week before class begins so class materials may be prepared by instructor.

Fee Assistance Program • We offer fee assistance for qualified low-income City of Redding residents (17 years and younger) for many classes & sports leagues. For more information on fee assistance availability call 225-4095.

General Procedures • A $25 fee will be charged for returned checks in addition to the check amount. • Classes may be cancelled 3-8 days before first class due to insufficient enrollment. Register early to assure your class choice. • Missed classes may not be made up. Class make-ups will be arranged only when Redding Recreation cancels an activity. • In the event your desired class is closed, be sure to request that your name be put on a waiting list. This enables Redding Recreation to document interest, begin new classes, and if possible, to meet greater demand.

I further agree to take responsibility to insure all registered minor child(ren) and assume all risks for any injuries received. I expressly acknowledge that there are risks to my health and safety, or that of the child listed below, and agree to be responsible for all costs and expenses incurred.I further represent and warrant that I am advised of the existence of California Civil Code § 1542, which provides as follows: A general release does not extend to claims which the creditor does not know or suspect to exist in his favor at the time of executing the release, which if known by him must have materially affected his settlement with the debtor. Notwithstanding this provision, this will constitute a full release in accordance with its terms. I knowingly and voluntarily waive the provisions of Section 1542, as well as any other statute, law or rule of similar effect, and acknowledge and agree that this waiver is an essential and material term of my participation or that of the child listed below.

Refunds: Full refunds will be processed for any activity cancelled by Redding Recreation. Refunds for any other reason must be requested by completing a Request for Refund form seven (7) days prior to the first day of the program. A $7.00 CANCELLATION FEE will be deducted from each program refunded. Refunds will be processed to the original transaction type and payee. Refunds take approximately three weeks for processing. Payee/participant may also request an account credit that is processed immediately.

Transfers: Participants may request a transfer to another program seven (7) days prior to the first class meeting, provided the fee for the new program is equal to or greater than the original program fee. The program to which the participant is transferring must also be offered in the current activity guide at the time of the request.

Consent to photograph, film, or record: Adults, and minor child(ren) registered by an adult, agree to allow designated City of Redding Staff to photograph, film, or voice record them during Redding Recreation activities/classes for use in promotional materials, publications, website, and any other informational pieces.

If any term clause or provision of this Waiver, Release of Liability and Disclaimer is held to be illegal, invalid or unenforceable, the remainder of this Release of Liability shall not be affected thereby, and shall be enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by law.
