t’s just enough of a step off the beaten path—really, just one short “best kept secret” block from the bustle of Broad Street—to justify the name. And for Kenneth Schwartz, there was only one possible name for his ambitious project in the heart of Red Bank; a place called Detour Gallery.

Located at 24 Clay Street—for years, a seldom-noticed alleyway of warehouse facilities and backof-building parking lots—the newly established space has reintroduced the concept of a full-time, forward-thinking art space to Red Bank that’s experienced a shedding of gallery facilities in recent years. A town in which many creative people have, by necessity, forged some creative opportunities for exposure with restaurants, hotels, hair salons and other local businesses. For Schwartz, that enterprising spirit and relatively relaxed small-town pace are part and parcel of what makes the greater Red Bank area—the place he’s called home for over 45 years—such a beckoning canvas for emerging, talented artists. A veteran commercial property investor, restaurateur and businessman who found success in the high-octane automotive business, Schwartz divested himself of his World Jeep and Subaru dealerships in order to devote his energies to those endeavors about which he’s most passionate—prime among them the Detour Gallery, a place he describes as “where I hang my hat these days…this is what I’m interested in.” That passion for art (and the people who create it) is no newfound dalliance for the longtime collector and artist representative, who inaugurated the Detour space last August with a group show entitled “Culturedrone.” Among the painters featured in that exhibit was Holly Suzanne Rader, the summoner of “glittering heroines, imaginary crusaders and fearless female warriors” whose elegantly erotic collages were first seen by Schwartz on the walls of the Bridge Avenue salon Glen Goldbaum 72— following which the future gallery owner commissioned the “graffiti glam” artist to create a body of work that would form the foundation first solo-spotlight installation, “Killer Queen,” at Detour. Michael Labua,"Popular Home,” 2016

Continued from previous page

Divided into two main exhibition areas, the spacious 8,000 square foot Detour building has also hosted the occasional fundraiser and function (a special Cancer Society event in honor of the late Broad Street business catalyst Larry Garmany is scheduled there for May 13). But art remains very much the focus, and in the weeks and months to come the Clay Street space will offer exhibit featuring works by Zevi G and Martin Schapira (March 19 to April 22), a new early-spring group show, and an installation by Brooklyn-based millennial painter Michael Labua that kicks off a summer of solo exhibits on June 3. Labua is just one of the many past-and-present, establishedand-emerging creatives whose works are on view at Detour Gallery—a roster that ranges from 20th century icons like Warhol, Rauschenberg and Liechtenstein, to relative newcomers Willie Torbert and Ron Haywood Jones (himself the subject of a solo event that opens in July).

Ever the retail-grounded realist himself, Schwartz (who continues to maintain his stake in Neptune City’s World VW dealership) turns the sort of factors that can work against a suburban gallery into an advantage, with “pricing that’s a lot less than what you’ll see in New York, L.A. or Miami…we’re RED HOT MAGAZINE RedHotNJ.com We Love Local

Schwartz’s re-imagining of the Red Bank artscape doesn’t end at the Clay Street structure, either. Scheduled to open around the end of March is Detour Framing, a 5,000 square foot site (at 131 Drs. James Parker Boulevard, formerly home to the Stair Shop) that’s been purchased and extensively renovated by the art aficionado into an up-to-date facility that will serve the gallery, its regular customers, and client artists.

Holly Suzanne Rader, "Killer Queen,” 2016

Also featured and promoted by Schwartz and his gallery staff (registrar Rune Egenes, sales/ marketing pro Toni Kilkeary) are the noted street artist known as DAIN; the late photographer Tobias Batz; the Spanish painter Mar Marin—plus a pair of ageless talents in the 80-something “outsider” artist James Andrew Brown, and the 90-something “magical realist” Paul Gorka.

selling lots of fabulous art, and without the New York overhead, since I own the building.”

Even with all that on the agenda, the most amazing activity is yet to come, as work is set to commence in a few months on “a massive art and cultural project” centered at a onetime barracks (recently purchased by Schwartz) on the Eatontown grounds of the former Fort Monmouth. Plans call for the “great and structurally sound” building to be refurbished into rented studio space for dance companies, music and theatrical studios— as well as for the development of a sculpture park on an adjacent two-acre plot of land. “Within a few years you’ll see 30,000 people living and working at the Fort…it’s going to be like a fantastic little city,” says the visionary Schwartz. “Red Bank will also continue to grow...we’ll see major things going on right here at the end of Clay Street...and we’re very happy to have played a part in making that happen.”

W

hen Walt Disney Productions’ animated feature film, Fantasia, was released in 1940, Milton Quon was a 27 year old animator who had worked on the movie and was just beginning an art career that would stretch for decades—more than 75 years, in fact, and counting. On March 24, 2017 Quon + Quon/2 Generations of Art, an exhibition of paintings by Monmouth County artist and designer, Mike Quon, and his 103 year old father, Milton, opens at the Oyster Point Hotel. The American Film Institute ranked Fantasia as one of the greatest animated features on its “10 Top Ten” list. The film consists of eight animated segments set to pieces of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski. As one of the last surviving artists involved in the production of Fantasia, Milton's work on the Chinese dancing mushrooms, cupids, goldfish, and dewdrop fairies for “The Nutcracker Suite” pastoral sequence would secure him a small, but permanent place, in animation history. He would later become First Assistant Animator on Dumbo before moving to BBDO to become the first Chinese art director in an international advertising agency.

Milton & Mike Collaboration Painting

Like his father, Mike Quon was born in Los Angeles and pursued a career in commercial art. After studying art and design at UCLA, he moved east, following graduation, and headed for Manhattan. After stints as an art director and designer at J. Walter Thompson and Young and Rubicam, he headed his own award-winning design office for 30 yeears, with many Fortune 500 clients and multinational companies, including Disney. Mike's work has been seen in advertising campaigns around the world, from Times Square and Giants Stadium, to the Summer Olympics in Sydney Australia, World Cup Soccer in Paris, and a department store chain in Tokyo, as well as in the permanent collections of The New York Historical Society, The Library of Congress, and The New York Times. But fine art was always in the family picture and Mike grew up surrounded by it. His father had pursued art from an early age, and was awarded a scholarship to Chouinard Art Institute (now Cal Arts). A prolific watercolorist, Milton painted with a special affinity for California landscapes. His works have been shown in Los Angeles at the Chinese American Museum and the Vincent Price Art Museum where he was one of five leading contemporary Chinese-American artists chosen for the significance of their contributions to the region’s artistic and cultural legacy. The show, Round the Clock: Chinese-American Artists Working in Los Angeles, was an initiative of the Getty Museum. “I didn’t really appreciate my father’s talent when I was growing up, “ says Mike. “Now I see the incredible mastery of what he’s done.” It was that new, fresh Milton Quon + Mike Quon eye for his father’s art that inspired the mounting of the Quon + Quon exhibit that showcases ten pieces by each artist, along with biographical videos. Milton’s traditional style, muted palette, and choice of landscape as subject are in sharp contrast to his son’s bold approach and vibrant use of color applied to his whimsical interpretations of pop culture, everyday objects and architectural renderings. Today, Mike enjoys being part of the vibrant local arts scene where he is an active member of Monmouth Arts, The Art Alliance, The Guild of Creative Art, and the Monmouth Museum. He can still be found meeting clients in Manhattan or in his Fair Haven studio drawing, painting, creating art. Milton lives in Southern California with his wife, Peggy, 95, and continues to pursue what he loves best. Special thanks to Jeff Quon for source information for this article.

Aquatic Artist

f Cathy Corcione’s paintings make you think of water, there’s a reason. The accomplished artist has spent much of her life in and around it. The Red Bank resident grew up swimming at the beach and on local club teams. While still a high school student, she competed on the U.S. swim team at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, and later, on the first women’s swim team at Princeton University. For the past 30 years, she’s even coached young swimmers locally. As Cathy puts it, “When you look at the pool six days a week, water is in your head.”

“Rosie” 11x14 acrylic on canvas

So, it’s no wonder that water is the inspiration and running theme for this accomplished, self-taught artist’s paintings. Whether portraits, seascapes, landscapes, elements from nature, or even bathing-capped-and goggled swimmers themselves, Cathy’s paintings have a diffused quality, as if viewed underwater. The ethereal movement, iridescence and shimmer she creates using acrylic, gouache and watercolor paints on canvas and paper, also evoke the calm and soothing peacefulness of being by the sea. “You can’t choose your style,” she says. “It comes from within” “Cathy’s love of water is in her soul and revealed through her paintbrush,” says Judi Trammell, owner of Gallery Jupiter in Little Silver. “Even when she’s painting another subject, there is always a soft, watery, atmospheric feel.” “Studies in Time,” an exhibit of Cathy Corcione’s works, will be held at Gallery Jupiter, Friday, April 28, from 5:30 – 8:30 pm, and Saturday, April 29, from 12 – 4 pm, with the artist on hand to offer a deep-dive into her work, inspiration and favorite subject.

Gallery Jupiter curates and sells art, and offers custom-framing, decorative elements, in home consultation and home accessories. 31 Church St • Little Silver • 732-530-8035 • galleryjupiter.com

! O V A R B ENCORE BRAVO AMICI SINGS FOR AUTISM SPEAKS, IN SPECIAL MONMOUTH U EVENT

O

n World Autism Awareness Day, April 2, the Contemporary Classical Crossover vocal ensemble Bravo Amici returns to the recently refurbished Pollak Theatre at Monmouth University for a special benefit concert presented in partnership with Autism Speaks NJ with a portion of the proceeds going to the New Jersey chapter. The cast of Broadway performers is led by New Zealand native Geoff Sewell—the tenor, impresario and philanthropist who co-founded “the world’s first opera band,” Amici Forever.

For the show’s return to the West Long Branch campus, Bravo Amici will deliver its signature mix of favorite operatic arias (La Traviata’s “Brindisi”), modern Broadway classics (Phantom’s “All I Ask of You”), and songbook surprises (Dean Martin’s novelty “That’s Amore”). The concert will also feature a special video presentation of Sewell's song, Heal Me, co-written by his wife Simone and featuring daughters Olivia and Sienna highlighting the message that autism is treatable. Produced in partnership with the New Jersey chapter of the nonprofit Autism Speaks, the concert is a fundraiser for the organization’s mission of advocacy, awareness and ongoing research to aid individuals and families affected by autism. The partnership is also one that carries a personal element for Sewell, as he and his wife Simone are themselves parents to an autistic daughter, Sienna.

TICKETS for the World Autism Day concert by Bravo Amici are priced at $45 and $60 (with a Gold Circle seating option priced at $100), and can be reserved through the Monmouth University Performing Arts Box Office at 732.263.6889, or online at monmouth.edu/arts.

As an additional component of the alliance with Autism Speaks NJ, the concert will be presented concurrent with the opening of ART+AUTISM. The juried exhibition is designed to showcase the work of artists living with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and to illustrate the ways in which art helps those individuals and the community to understand and address the challenges of living with autism. All featured art works will be offered for sale, with a portion of proceeds dedicated to Autism Speaks NJ. The public is invited to the opening reception, April 2 from 5 to 7 p.m., with the art remaining on display through May 31 at the theatre building’s in-house Pollak Gallery. Following the World Autism Day gallery reception, Geoff Sewell and his stable of talents from Incognito Artists take to the Pollak stage for the first time since the auditorium’s renovation project that included installation of 700 new seats and an enhanced performance area—the better to accommodate Bravo Amici’s celebrated “mix of handsome tenors and stunning divas” who “perform an uplifting, moving collection of well-known classical and contemporary arias.”

Something Old, Something New, Something Red (Bank) Scenes From a Wedding | Red Bank’s Elks Lodge #233

Susan Douglas Ansorge & Adam Ansorge

E

ver since Susan Douglas and Adam Ansorge first met in 1997, the town of Red Bank has been the scenic backdrop to their relationship. It was where, over the last two decades, the couple would go on dates, break up, make up, work, live, and fall in love. So it made sense that the place they held so dear should figure prominently in their October 2016 wedding, and form the bedrock on which they would build their future. They chose the Elks Lodge #233 on West Front Street as their wedding venue, just down the block from Riverview Medical Center where Adam was born. “From the street, you can’t imagine how beautiful this waterfront location is,” says Susan. “One of the big things I loved about being at the Elks was that it felt like being home,“ adds Adam. “Just being in town in this fabulous facility with its history and tradition and local energy made me feel safe and loved and close to home. The funny thing is I didn’t know that much about the Elks but once I did, there wasn’t a second choice.” Along with the warm nostalgia of the Elks Lodge and its beautiful setting, the no-frills, do-it-yourself simplicity of the rental package had enormous appeal. Use of the hall, backyard and patio are included, along with tables, chairs and volunteer servers who are members of the Elks, but food, flowers, music, decorations and décor are not. For Adam and Susan, the creative possibility was the icing on the wedding cake. The 2016 Red Bank Wedding Walk last March provided inspiration for the couple who had decided on a woodland theme for their wedding. With the help of willing family and friends, they decorated the reception space with firefly lights, paper lanterns, terrarium centerpieces and table numbers made from crosscut tree bark and gold-painted forest-animal figurines. Front St. Trattoria across the street brought in the work-party/rehearsal-night dinner. The wedding “cutting cake”—a coconut-chocolate-caramel confection by The Vintage Cake, Red Bank—was iced and finished to look like bark from a birch tree. Guests were treated to cupcakes in five flavors from a towering display prepared by Sugarush bakery on West Front Street. Susan used clay and fabric reserved from her bridal-gown alterations to handcraft a whimsical bride-and-groom cake topper designed to look like her and Adam. The junior bridesmaids, nieces of the bride, wore flower-wreath headpieces and fairy-style dresses sewn by Susan and her friend Bridgette. Even the guests’ favors fit the theme: jars of honey from the Lockhart apiary, close family friends, with labels designed by the groom who is an artist and animator.

In a ceremony on the Lodge’s sprawling lawn overlooking the Navesink River, Susan and Adam exchanged rings purchased from Nat’s Jewelers. After the vows, the wedding party headed to Riverside Gardens Park for photos before joining their guests for the reception. For Mr. and Mrs. Adam Ansorge of Red Bank, every detail of their wedding day was personalized to reflect their own unique and artsy style...and to tell the story of the special love they have for each other and their town. After their honeymoon, they went home to Red Bank where they live.

Among the treasured possessions in Susan’s wedding ensemble was her SILVER NYMPH CUFF BRACELET BY LONG BRANCH JEWELRY DESIGNER, ELLIE MATHIAS (BELOW). Miss Ellie jewelry is sought after by women all over the country, many of them brides like Susan who purchase the vintage-style accessories to add the finishing touches to their wedding-day look. Her signature, antique-inspired pieces are lush and sensuous with intricate filigree work, baroque ornamentation, elaborate etching, scrolling vines, birds, and other elements Acanthus Headband worn by Ellie Mathias

from nature that give a look of cherished heirloom jewelry that has been passed down through generations. But, her limited-edition necklaces, bracelets, hairclips, tiaras, brooches, chokers, earrings, and belts are new, each personally designed by Ellie and crafted by skilled artisans who hand-make each item using American materials. Ellie also creates custom pieces for clients, combining elements from two different pieces, matching stones to fabric, changing the metal color, or even converting earrings to clip-ons for brides, mothers-of-the-brides, or bridesmaids. Locally, Miss Ellie NYC jewelry is available at Anthropologie at The Grove in Shrewsbury, The Bee in Point Pleasant Beach, the Ocean Grove craft fair in June and online at MISSELLIENYC.COM

The bride choose special items that were significant to her life and love story with Adam in following the “something old, something new” tradition. A charm bracelet passed down from her deceased mom was her “something old.” Among the bracelet’s gold hearts, Susan added a special filigreed charm purchased from Nat’s Jewelers on Broad Street, with a secret compartment to hold some of her mother’s cremains. “It was a way to have her with me on my wedding day,” she says. For the “blue” element, Susan wore blue suede wedges with Wonder Woman socks—a nod to both her newfound sense of empowerment after starting a fitness regimen at a local gym, and to her mom’s dark hair and superwoman strength through treatment. (After the ceremony, the bride ditched the heels for a pair of silver high-top Converse sneakers with blue satin laces.)

in this place.” Many have done just that, including celebrating milestone events such as bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, and even small, intimate weddings (the space holds up to 60 people).

Luckily, married Red Bank restaurateurs Valerie and Michael Aufiero, owners of Front St. Trattoria, and Lauren Phillips and Claudette Herring, owners of Via 45, have figured out the recipe for keeping life sweet on both sides of the commute. These couples not only have their home-work balance nailed, they credit their relationships with building better businesses.

Working side by side in a small, narrow kitchen every night is bound to stir the pot on occasion. “Some days are great; others not so much,” laughs Claudette. “We have two different ways of cooking. But, we love and respect each other and take pride in each other’s accomplishments.” Lauren adds, “When we go home (to Atlantic Highlands), we go over two bridges. The water is very calming and helps us leave our cares behind.”

They now also offer a large selection of vegetarian dishes, and gluten-free options, including cauliflowercrust pizzas. “Our menu is based on traditional dishes, but with a little slant,” says Val. “Our food is very flavorful, colorful, and made fresh daily.” Therese Marie Wagner Photography

The women, both self-taught cooks, first worked together while Claudette was the chef and Lauren baked the pastries at a bed-and-breakfast in Spring Lake. When the inn closed, the two friends decided to try collaborating on their own restaurant. Via 45 opened on Broad St. in May Front St. Trattoria 2009—in the midst of the recession—with a relaxed, Via 45 warm, and inviting atmosphere, and a seasonal, locally focused menu prepared to order. The couple behind Front St. Trattoria can relate. “We’ve worked together nearly as long as we’ve been married,” says Val Aufiero. (The two will celebrate their 36th anniversary this year; the restaurant, its 32nd.) “Actually, that part is easy; I married my best friend.”

Claudette and Lauren share cooking duties, and Lauren also prepares the desserts in the restaurant. Their handwritten, Mediterraneaninspired menu offers about 15 dishes that change nightly. The pair will cheerfully and willingly adapt any dish on the menu, or come up with a new one, to accommodate the estimated 30 percent of their customers who have food allergies, or are vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free. “We call it ‘cooking in the moment,’” Lauren says.

They opened Front St. Trattoria in 1985, after discovering the concept of trattoria restaurants while vacationing in Italy. The place was originally Michael’s baby, and Val continued her career in New York City’s garment industry. Michael brought seven years’ of summer-job pizza-making experience to his new kitchen, but gave his versions a decidedly upscale twist.

Therese Marie Wagner Photography

As the restaurant flourished, so did the women’s relationship. Claudette and Lauren were joined in a symbolic spiritual union on 12/12/2012, and then a civil union twelve days later on Christmas Eve. They were officially married the following year, when same-sex marriage was legalized in New Jersey.

“Our food is about nourishment and love, and we want everyone to be able to come to our table and enjoy a meal together,” Lauren continues. “We hope families and friends will gather and make great memories

Today, Front St. Trattoria is still known for inventive pizzas with crispy, sesame-seed crust. (Yes, plain is available, for less adventuresome eaters.) The deep-dish stuffed pizzas and house salad—bowtie pasta, artichokes, roasted pepper, tomatoes and greens with pesto dressing—have been perennial favorites, as have entrees like eggplant parmigiana and salmon, according to Val. But, new options like the Mediterranean appetizer platter with beets, roasted peppers, grilled artichokes, olives, and ricotta cheese with balsamic drizzle have Via 45 gained a devoted fan base.

“Our home life is wonderful and so is our work life,” says Claudette. “It is a gift to have something we can do together that we both love and are passionate about.”

catch on.” But, in short order it did, and Val left her job to join her husband. Michael manned the kitchen solo for the first five years, but is now back-up for a team of great cooks who take the lead on those duties. A master wood craftsman, he has also made much of the cabinetry in the charming, rustic restaurant with exposedbrick walls. Val oversees “front of the house” administrative tasks.

Fro

ost people can leave the office behind when they walk out the door at the end of the day. Not the case when you work with your spouse.

“At the time, it was very unusual to put toppings like artichokes, zucchini and pesto on a pizza,” recalls Val. “Cappuccino? Balsamic vinegar? People hadn’t really heard of these things, and didn’t know what to expect. It took awhile for our menu to

Val says the restaurant, which has a private party area, is a popular spot for wedding rehearsal dinners, engagement parties, showers, and first dates, and more than a few guests have “popped the question” at their tables. “Now we’re seeing their children grow up and come in on dates,” Val adds. “It’s been wonderful to get to know generations of customers over the years.” The cozy and romantic restaurant has even inspired a marriage between employees. Paula and Roehl Pangilinan of Tinton Falls met there waiting tables (he later became a cook) in the mid ‘90s. Their work friendship blossomed into a romance, says Paula, “And, now we’ve been married more than 20 years. We just held our daughter’s Sweet 16 party at the restaurant. I think she was the first, official Trattoria baby!”

COMPLEX PATIENT CARE IN THE MODERN ICU

I

f you’ve ever visited a friend or family member in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a by APRIL GUILLERME hospital, you know first-hand that it is a fast-moving, frenzied environment in which for Riverview Medical Center the most critical patients receive care. Each year, it is estimated that nearly six million patients are treated in ICUs. As that number continues to rise, the number of critical care physicians, known as intensivists, cannot keep pace with the demand. With an aging population in need of critical care services, ICUs across the country are working to identify new and improved methods for providing the best care possible for their sickest patients. At Riverview Medical Center, the answer to enhancing ICU care is to utilize the latest technology to assist their highly trained critical care team. This technology combines the use of videoconferencing and image sharing technology to create a “tele-ICU” featuring a mobile robot. A remotely located board certified intensivist can examine a patient, evaluate their symptoms, access all clinical data, and prescribe medications as needed. The patient and their family members, including those who are not there in person, as well as the on-site ICU team, have simultaneous direct visual and auditory communication with the tele-intensivist. “The purpose of the tele-ICU is not to replace bedside clinicians or our highly skilled critical care team,” says John Royall, M.D., a pulmonologist and medical director of the Riverview ICU. “The reality affecting hospitals across the country is that a critical care specialist is not always immediately available when a patient is most in need. By utilizing the tele-ICU robot, a board certified intensivist is always immediately available, which offers improved safety and care for our patients.”

John D. Royall, M.D.

Another benefit to the tele-ICU robot at Riverview, is that it can be operated remotely, allowing the offsite intensivist to direct the robot to the bedside for direct patient observation and to react immediately if there is a change in the patient's vital signs. By collaborating with the bedside team and rounding with them twice a day, the tele-intensivist works with the team to provide continuous care and timely intervention when minutes may make the difference.“Because of the severe illnesses which characterize the patients in the ICU, rapidly changing clinical conditions are the norm,” says Dr. Royall. “The tele-intensivist, via the robot, becomes a second set of eyes to provide additional surveillance and support.”

In addition to better patient clinical outcomes, evidence suggests that a tele-ICU helps to reduce length of stay and expedites the patient’s recovery from illness. “There is tremendous benefit to our patients,” Dr. Royall continues. “Our tele-ICU program brings the scarce resource of a board certified critical care specialist to the bedside within minutes, 24 hours-per-day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.” As the number of ICU admissions increases, the availability of board certified critical care physicians remains limited. Tele-ICU provides a critical support system to the complex patient care demands in the modern ICU. LET’S TALK ABOUT LOVE

he title of this article is a lyric from my own wedding song, Foreigner’s iconic “I Want To Know What Love Is.” To go where love is astrologically is to set your sights on Venus. Venus rules two signs of the zodiac. Her Taurus side is all about earthy, sensual love and affection, about who and what is attractive to us, and the ways in which we are attractive to others. She also represents what’s important to us: what we value and what it takes to feel safe and secure, especially materially. When she is coming from her Libra persona, the Goddess of Love gets more refined: she’s concerned about sociability, politeness and being “nice,” and with how to negotiate the give-and-take of relationships of all kinds, especially partnership ones. Through both signs she expresses romance, creativity and aesthetic sensitivity, and a penchant for pleasure, the “good life” and self-indulgence. Understanding Venus helps us know what we are attracted to and value in relationship, and how we will demonstrate our presence in that connection. With one general one exception: in most instances Venus leaves the sexual dimension of relationship to her planetary cohorts, Mars and Pluto.

Venus is definitely more than just a pretty face, though. Her circuit through all the signs of the zodiac takes about eight years and during that passage she, like all the planets except the Sun and the Moon, will go retrograde from time to time. If you connect the dots that mark each time the Goddess of Love goes retrograde and then when she changes direction to move forward during those eight years, the pattern you create will be that of a five-pointed star (sometimes called the Lotus Pattern). You’ll find that same design over and over again in nature: at the center of an apple or pomegranate when you slice it sideways—or on the shell of a sand dollar—or in the pattern of an unfurling fern, making Venus a planetary reminder and symbol of the amazing elegance, meaningfulness and reliability of this world we live in. “As above, so below.” Understanding how and where Venus is placed in your own unique birth chart will deeply personalize her for you and help you embrace your inner Venus in the best possible way. Then you can know where, who and what you love are.
