Monmouth Boat Club Robert Ender joined the Monmouth Boat Club last year. Prior to that, he had never set foot on a sailboat. His interest was piqued by a film clip of the 12-meter yacht Weatherly, owned by a Rumson family and the 1962 America’s Cup winner, along with related sailing footage. It triggered something in Robert. “It looked like such a great active, but relaxing, sport,” he says, during one of his frequent visits to the weathered three-story wooden clubhouse in Red Bank, perched on the Navesink River for more than a century.

All photos by Art Petrosemolo (nauticalphotography.us)

Early last summer, Robert asked his longtime friend and club member Tim Boyce to take him out sailing—“It was kind of daunting at first,” Robert allows—and show him around the club. He started meeting members. “I was impressed; they were expert sailors, but friendly and patient.” He would pepper them and another long-time-member-friend, Dan Vought, with questions. Don’t be overwhelmed by the technical end of things, Dan would caution Robert, who soon was eyeing a decrepit Flying Dutchman, a two-person monohull racing dinghy, sans hardware, that was for sale. He learned that this 20-footer was once the sailboat class at MBC. True, Robert didn’t yet know how to sail, let alone restore a sailboat. That didn’t stop him. He was sold all around. “I started my application for the club before I had my sailboat going!” Many members (there’s around 200 family memberships at present, with room for more) are part of multi-generational sailing families, and some who learned through MBC’s Junior Program have Monmouth Boat Club by Santo Puzzutti (MBC member, 50-plus years and counting) gone on to compete successfully in the U.S. Junior Olympics, National Championships, and other competitions. Dot Lucyk of Lincroft, who, with Karen Gertsenmeier, co-chairs the social committee, has a daughter, Molly, who started taking lessons here as a six year old, and who now is a club sailing instructor. The Lucyks considered other area sailing clubs before joining MBC, impressed by its racing pedigree and location near Red Bank’s many amenities. “MBC is a small town club with a big time sailing program,” sums up Bill Ewing, who with wife Eileen are expert sailors, longtime members. During the season, there are weekly races, regattas, and a host of events for members of all ages and abilities, in various classes of sailboats that include Flying Scot, Lightning, Sanderling, N10 & Laser, along with an avid cruising fleet. Lessons, of course, are available for adults, too, newbies or seasoned. And there are unique groups within the club, such as Nautigals, a formidable 20s-thru-60s group of female racer parvenus that is taught by the Ewings. Regardless of anyone’s abilities or aspirations, Dot maintains, “the nice thing about sailing is you can do it for the rest of your life.” You don’t have to sail, however, to enjoy much of what MBC has to offer, notes Wendie Elovich, an attorney and Nautigals gal, who serves with Ingrid Hoffman as a co-membership director. In fact, MBC was founded in 1879 as a rowing club. addition to rowing, members today can enjoy motor boating, kayaking, and plenty of socializing. There’s frostbite sailing in the fall and winter in addition to ice-boating next door at the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht (memberships are separate).

his is not a yacht club, but it is an old, prestigious boat club, where members become part of its history, its traditions and social fabric and culture.”

For non-boating river lovers, there are social memberships. All age groups can enjoy special dinners, picnics, and a variety of parties and get-togethers. While there are kid-specific events, such as sleepovers, kids are welcome to join their parents for virtually any function. Ask a member to characterize the club in a nutshell, and you might hear this: MBC is safe and kid-friendly, fun, full of fellowship (everyone pitched in to repair the clubhouse’s Hurricane Sandy-ravaged first floor), family-centered, community-minded (for example, regattas are sometimes fundraisers)—and provides the best sunsets. Yet, a lot of people don’t know the club exists. “They aren’t aware of what we offer, and how reasonable it is to join,” says Wendie. The one-time initiation fee is $1,300; and annual membership dues vary by membership category. For example, the cost for those under age 35 is $650.00. An additional club bonus is that non-members can enroll their kids in the Junior Sailing Program for a very reasonable fee. There are no signs to the effect, but the club maintains a strict “Pretension Free” environment. “This is not a yacht club,” states Wendie, “but it is an old, prestigious boat club, where members become part of its history, its traditions and social fabric and culture.” And they do so, says Robert Ender, by leaving their “career hats” at the door. “Members come from all directions; you have no sense of whether someone does nothing for a living or works on Wall Street,” he says. Robert, age 40, who lives in Middletown, was one of those who never knew the club existed. Last summer he restored his Flying Dutchman in the club’s yard. Now he’s bringing his friends around to show them what they’ve been missing—and take them out for a ride.

May 1, the new Whitney Museum of Modern Art opened in Manhattan, moving from its upper eastside Madison Avenue location to its new home on Gansevoort Street in the West Village in the downtown meatpacking district—a move the NY Times called “a signal contribution to downtown and the city’s cultural landscape.” May 1 in Red Bank, a significant cultural event was happening on the West Side of town. Elle, the internationally celebrated street artist, was painting her art on the outside of the Anderson Building, installing public art at the corner of Bridge Avenue and Monmouth Street that dropped the cultural anchor even deeper into what was once referred to as “the other side

of the tracks.” West Side visionaries, Chris Cole, partner in Metrovation, developer of WestSide Lofts and owner of the Anderson Building, and Glen Goldbaum, owner and creative director of Lambs & Wolves on Bridge Avenue, joined together to make it happen. “The catalyst comes from Glen who’s long been a creative force on the West Side of town,” says fellow collaborator, Chris Cole. “He introduced us to Elle’s unique brand of street art and we’re excited about working with her to try and create an interesting visual connection here. The intention of the art is to become a thread running through the neighborhood that feels true to what exists today, but also as it transforms into an even more vibrant neighborhood.”

Elle’s art was introduced to the West Side when Glen invited her to use the floor at Lambs & Wolves, 66D Bridge Avenue, as her canvas. Connecting Spaces, the party on May 2 at his salon, was a West Side celebration and opening of the art installation now permanently underfoot. For Goldbaum, his canvas is the West Side neighborhood of Red Bank along Bridge Avenue that he pioneered as a business owner six years ago and continues to paint into Red Bank’s cultural landscape.

A New Home Rises for Red Bank's Longest Established Stage Troupe

by TOM CHESEK

B

y his reckoning, Tom Martini has been involved with more than 125 stage shows, ranging from family favorites to edgy experiments. For the co-founder and executive producer of Red Bank-based nonprofit Phoenix Productions, the "thrill of first-nighting" never grows old—and here in 2015, the borough resident and his Phoenix phalanx are presiding over what just might be the most exciting opening in the company's 28 year history. Beginning with a private sneak-preview reception in early May, the troupe effectively raised the curtain on a brand new Phoenix Productions Rehearsal Center, an 11,000 square foot facility located situated on a 1.5 acre piece of property at 59 Chestnut Street. At more Front entrance on Chestnut St. than triple the size of the previous Phoenix headquarters (a former WaWa store at 11 Monmouth Street), the building offers considerable growth opportunities for the acclaimed "community" company that stakes its homestage on the boards of the nearby Count Basie Theatre. That long-running affiliation with the historic venue has been "both a blessing and a curse" in Martini's estimation; in that rookie performers and veterans "still get excited when they see the Basie for the first time...it’s a real thrill to step out on that stage." At the same time, Phoenix has sometimes encountered problems in securing rights for musicals that "would just as soon give it to a church-basement group, than deal with an established company working in a 1,500-seat theater, within 50 miles of New York City." Packed with talent and technically eye-popping, those big musical entertainments continue at the Basie during a 2015 season that kicked off in March with "Jesus Christ Superstar"—and that continues with productions of "Mary Poppins" (July 10-19), "Evita" (September 11-20), and "Peter Pan" (November 13-22). Several cuts above the community-theater norm, the shows draw the participation of hopefuls that hail from all walks of life—suits and students; public servants and professionals; homemakers and hobbyists—and even such career entertainers as American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis, Miss New Jersey Amy Palumbo, and crowdpleasing actor-singer David Weitzer (honorary trustees have included such names as Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman and Olympia Dukakis). Throw in a creative team of Garden State theater pros and live musicians, and you're looking at a finely tuned production that "will provide paid employment to 20 people, opportunity for 40 performers, and satisfaction to dozens of volunteers who work in the shadows to bring the production to light."

SECTION RED BANK Phoenix Productions (from left): Ragtime; 42nd Street; Rent; Cats; South Pacific; Sweeney Todd; The King And I

Finding the space for all of those dedicated souls to rehearse and practice their craft has always been a dilemma for the company that's long specialized in all-singing, all-dancing, cast-of-thousands blockbusters. When the Phoenix board learned of the over 100 year old property on Chestnut—a onetime tobacco warehouse that most recently housed the Academy of Dance Arts—the trustees immediately launched into action. Michael Simpson of borough-based S.O.M.E. Architects was commissioned to draw up plans for a self-contained complex that would house two spacious rehearsal studios, in-house costume and scenery shops, executive offices, enough storage for thousands of props and costumes, and— this is important—a potential "black box" performance space, should such a facility get approval down the road. “Often there are interesting, challenging works that would be lost in the Basie," commented Phoenix Productions president Lindsay Wood in a statement. "With this new venue, we will be able to provide the intimate setting such works deserve.” Boasting four furnaces, five bathrooms—one donated by primary contractor Seaview Remodeling—and a dedicated parking lot with space for 80 vehicles ("where the hell can you find a deal like that in Red Bank?"), the Rehearsal Center features a lobby entrance that opens up onto a 1,500 square foot rehearsal/performance space. For an adjoining, 2,000 square foot scenery shop, the company installed an overhead garage door to an outside loading dock. A work-in-progress "hospitality court" with kitchen and vending machines adjoins fully functioning office facilities for five staffers and volunteers. A 500 square foot costume shop is complemented by a second-floor storage space that houses custom-sewn souvenirs from nearly every production in the Phoenix repertoire (the company does an "active rental business" in costumes, primarily with high schools around the region), plus shelves of carefully catalogued and organized props—everything from Tevye's milk-wagon jugs, to a plastic liverwurst or shrunken head, should the script call for such a thing. In the meantime, Phoenix will resume its well-received Camp Phoenix summer day camp performing arts program in July—with plans to expand its operations into a year-round arts education program for kids, adults and seniors, beginning in September. More information on the Camp Phoenix program can be found at phoenixredbank.com—while tickets for "Mary Poppins" and other upcoming Phoenix shows at the Basie ($22-$32) can be reserved at countbasietheatre.org. Visit the Phoenix website or call 732.747.0014 to find out about additional support opportunities, such as donations, show sponsorships, volunteering, or naming rights at the new facility.

BUILDING HOPE AT MERIDIAN HEALTH YOUR HOME TEAM ADVANTAGE FOR CANCER CARE

Riverview Medical Center Oncology Expansion

F

ear is an extremely powerful emotion, one that can leave one powerless. Everything about a cancer diagnosis provokes concern and anxiety, but Meridian Health is changing the dialogue about cancer and is “Building Hope” in an effort to reduce the impact of cancer today, while working to eliminate the threat of cancer tomorrow.

by CAITLIN COYLE for Meridian Health

With a $128 million investment in cancer, Meridian Health is expanding cancer care for the Monmouth and Ocean county communities served, through six expansion projects which will be introduced over three years. Each of the expansions will combine physical, visual, and technical upgrades in order to meet the clinical and emotional needs of all patients. Cancer services are currently provided at each Meridian hospital campus, and will continue throughout the building and renovation efforts. The first of the Monmouth County locations to be complete will be Riverview Medical Center, where a 29,000 square foot addition is being added to the already well-known and outstanding Cancer Center. “Riverview has built an outstanding reputation for cancer care,” says Timothy J. I’m IMPORTANT I believe you should always maintain your health. You take your car in for tune-ups and maintenance. So, why wouldn’t you take just as good care of yourself? That is why I eat right, go to the gym, and stay active with my grandchildren. That is also why I get my annual mammogram at the Women’s Center at Riverview.

The doctors at the Women’s Center are phenomenal. And, the new design makes it feel like you are at a spa. I especially like that you can coordinate your other diagnostic tests at the same time as your mammogram — so I can schedule my own “tune-up!” I am a grandmother. I am active. I am important. You are important too. Make time for your mammogram. To make an appointment at the Women’s Center at Riverview, please call 732.530.2305. Or visit www.RiverviewMedicalCenter.com/WomensCenter

hen FilmOneFest launched in 2008, some people thought the whole thing sounded crazy, this gala grassroots festival to celebrate filmmakers, storytellers, audience, and place, recalls Robert O’Connor, the festival’s founder, creative director, and a respected practicing artist. “I believe after they saw we were showing these amazing super-short films and having fun, that the whole thing was family oriented, they thought, ‘Well this is kind of cool.’” And it still is, just bigger and better than anyone ever imagined, including Robert.

Robert O’Connor (r) with founding Co-Director Julie Gartenberg (l) and Co-Director Corinna Thuss (c).

We sat down recently with Robert at his First Avenue shop in Atlantic Highlands, The Painted Frame, for an inside look at an event that has been nominated for Jersey Arts People’s Choice Award Favorite Film Festival two years in a row. FilmOneFest 2015 (a production of the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council) is scheduled for July 18 at the borough marina.

RED HOT Robert, it’s 2006. You’ve recently received your MFA and moved to Atlantic Highlands. You’re involved with the Arts Council, when film wasn’t on the agenda. What happened?

all of them to a crowd of around 600. We couldn’t have been more surprised. Last year, we had nearly 100 submissions, and 47 films were shown to around 2,000 attendees.

Robert They were looking for different types of art and events to bring to town. In grad school I had been involved in a couple of short-film festivals, and I suggested we do something similar. The scale seemed right for the town, intimate. I spearheaded the thing with board member and co-director Julie Gartenberg. She died this past January. A wonderful person with incredible organizational skills.

RED HOT Who decides which films are accepted?

RED HOT What did you hope to accomplish? Robert Basically, to bring exciting film and video making to the community and by doing so enrich it—along with much needed attention to the borough. After all, this was during the recession; like most towns, the business district was struggling. Over the years, we’ve become engrained here in a way I never would have envisioned at first. RED HOT What did you envision?

Robert We have a member submissions committee. We’re like pre-screeners. We look for films, too. Then we whittle the entries down to 60 or 80 films, to pass onto the judges. They send back their scores, which are based on an overall oneto 10-scale—there are no categories per se. Our six judges are all top TV and movie professionals, including producers, editors, journalists, film reviewers—donating their time and expertise. Tom Bernard, he lives in Navesink and is co-president of Sony Pictures Classics, has been a huge supporter. Our mayor, Fred Rast, who owns the movie theater on First Avenue, is being honored for his help at this year’s launch party. RED HOT Does everyone volunteer? Who else pitches in?

RED HOT How many films and attendees did you have back then, say, compared to 2014?

Robert Well, we couldn’t do it without the festival’s managing director, Corinna Thuss, who works so hard and brings incredible humor and a lot of kindness to the organization. She's an incredible event planner. There are the Arts Council board members, some 16 festival volunteers year-round, 50-plus on event day. Atlantic Highlands is a small community, and I’ve never lived in a place where there’s this strong sense of place. People want to see the town do well, and are willing to volunteer and donate and support in ways that I hadn’t experienced before.

Robert The first year, probably 50 to 60 film submissions, and we showed almost

RED HOT What are some of the costs involved?

Robert Well, it was a little nerve wracking; we didn’t know if it would work, if people would even show up. We had this blow-up screen, I’m running around plugging things in hoping the bulbs don’t blow. Really, the first several years the event was put together with duct tape. But it worked; people really seemed to like it.

Robert Two years ago, we started renting a huge LED screen, along with a stage. That’s $10,000 for one day—what we spent for the entire festival in 2008. Last year’s overall tab was $40,000. The festival is absolutely free to the public, and we’re proud of that. RED HOT Films submitted for consideration must be under two minutes in length. Why? Robert From the filmmaker’s side, it’s a huge challenge to say something in 120 or fewer seconds. I’m amazed at what we’ve gotten: horror films, animations, comedy, experimental. From the viewer’s side the digital short format is now very familiar and a good fit for modern attention spans! You can watch festival films on our website. RED HOT Where do the filmmakers come from? Robert All over. In the US, and also Poland, Iceland, Pakistan, Korea, Canada. It amazes me. RED HOT What’s down the road? Robert We’re about at max capacity at the marina, so we’re considering a host of options, from multi-screens to multi-day. I think there’s limits to a total volunteer structure, so we’re brainstorming that. Meanwhile, this year we’ve got the Seastreak Ferry on board running a nonscheduled trip from New York to Sandy Hook. And down at the harbor we’ll have artist demonstrators, a stilt walker, face painter, great food and music. Interest continues to grow: we have website visitors from places like Bratislava and Romulus, and hundreds locally. The festival is a multi-faceted, positive, fun, and artfriendly experience. Hope to see you there.

CHRISTOPHER H. RUBY When you’re a contractor driven by commitment, like Chris Ruby, you basically work seven days a week. “My phone’s always on, no matter where I am,” says the president of Red Bank-based Hilliard Construction. “And I always answer it.” The hours are long at Hilliard, spent juggling myriad aspects of various projects that, for Chris, include everything from home renovations (exterior, interior, bathrooms, kitchens, you name it) to the ground-up construction of a brand new home. The rewards for a job well done generally are repeat work, a solid referral—though, for Chris, one time, it was something unexpected and initially alarming.

HILLIARD CONSTRUCTION

“I’m doing a big job and walk into the place and the owner is crying,” he explains. “I thought I did something terribly wrong. But she says, ‘This is so beautiful, I can’t believe how it all turned out!’ That, right there, just makes your day. It was so gratifying. Things like that make all the hard work, the time, the frustrations, worth everything.” It’s not so surprising, really. If you ask Chris what he enjoys most about being a custom home builder and home improvement contractor, he’ll tell you, “Changing people’s lives for the better.” A 1993 graduate of Middletown High School North, Chris grew up in the township, and in the family’s construction business. “I always loved building stuff,” he allows. Twelve years ago, Chris launched Hilliard Construction (Hilliard being his middle name), which today has a core team of four, along with select subcontractors. Together, they have completed hundreds of projects throughout Monmouth, Ocean, and Middlesex Counties. According to Consumer Reports, top homeowner complaints about general contractors include not taking the time needed to do the job right, and not understanding requests. Chris is aware of this. “There’s no sugarcoating of anything in the way I do business,” he explains. “You let your clients know exactly what’s going on, every step of the way. And you do the right thing, always; you never cut corners.” Chris also lives in Red Bank, and when he’s not on the job— answering his cell phone notwithstanding—he loves spending time with his young nieces and nephews, courtesy of two brothers and a sister. He enjoys outings on his boat, working out, and is an avid snowboarder. Chris sees Hilliard Construction growing, but for the moment the size is just right. “I have no complaints. When I get up in the morning, I’m excited to get at it. I love what I’m doing,” he says.

verywhere you look, the eye of the master architect who designed the extraordinary house at 8 Buttonwood Lane can be seen…and the standards of the original homeowners who would accept nothing less than perfection.

8 BUTTONWOOD LANE | RUMSON

The generous, light infused interior space...the charm of antiquity captured in the elegance of the grandly sized rooms, the lofted beamed ceilings, the wide-planked, solid oak floors...the majestic feeling of a royal residence with all the warmth of the most intimate living space—everywhere, the signature of architect Michael Unger is unmistakable, from the character and quality of the house itself down to its finest details. His distinctive aesthetic and impeccable design distinguish many of the grandest estates on the Peninsula.

Originally created to be lived in and loved by a growing family with years of wonderful memories ahead, the grand house and grounds exceed expectations by allowing a place for the most expansive lifestyle dreams to come true.

Sited on a pinnacle property—3.13 private rare waterfront acres, with Riparian rights, in the heart of one of Rumson’s most prestigious neighborhoods—the estate is a boater’s paradise with extensive bulk heading, a deep water dock, and 24/7 access to the quiet waters of the Shrewsbury River inlet...and out to the ocean beyond. A splendid blue stone patio and screened porch, with beamed cathedral ceiling and mahogany floors, connect the main house to the beauty of the natural environment and pristine grounds. Elegant French doors lead to the pleasures within. A huge, commercial-grade kitchen is the heart of the house where thirty people, or more, could be comfortably entertained. Built and outfitted to meet the highest culinary standards, the kitchen is equipped with two Sub-Zero refrigerators, two dishwashers, two sinks, a Viking Stove and everything needed for a gourmet cook’s pleasure and parties of every size. More than 7,800 square feet of living space includes six bedrooms, including a grand master suite, plus den, family room, office, and banquet-sized dining room. A spacious wing over the three-car, heated garage features a bedroom, bathroom and sitting suite for extended family, visiting guests, live-in help or whatever accommodations are needed. The spacious, finished lower level offers endless possibilities with a game room, exercise room, full bath, and luxurious wine cellar. Walk in to the vaulted, two-story entry foyer, and look around. The reverse staircase allows a 360-degree appreciation of all you survey—the house, the grounds, the river and the architecture of enduring design.

All About Animals by LENORE M. KINGSMORE

Hurrah for Hudson!!!

Principal, HHRS, Highlands

Two years ago, Kathy Noland, the special education teacher at Henry Hudson Regional School (HHRS) discussed an idea she had about getting a therapy dog for her classroom.. There were programs in New Jersey that brought dogs into the school for individuals with health issues and disabilities to reduce anxiety during testing, to teach students to read, and to teach empathy. In August 2014, Hudson, a Golden Doodle, became our therapy dog. Students and staff embraced the joy Hudson brought to everyone when he showed up to work. Hudson has taught our students unconditional positive regard. He is their companion when they are reading books, struggling with math problems, helping students who have Asperger’s and Autism with more effective ways to communicate. During their life skills class, our special needs students earn time with Hudson to play, read or just hang out. Mrs. Noland asked her students to share their experiences in an essay entitled, “What Hudson Means to Me.” Garrett: “Hudson makes me feel motivated to do things I normally wouldn’t be up to do.” Max: “He’s the school’s best friend and we love him. Hudson is a great helper and listener. When one of us is upset or angry, Hudson knows and he will give us a hug or try to help us.” Hudson served double-duty when he starred in the school’s production of “Annie.”

Joseph: “Hudson is just one little helpful dog and he is just sweet and jolly. So when we play he is happy. When we walk, he walks right besides us. He also sits for the pledge of allegiance. He is just absolutely awesome.”

WINDMILL

T

here’s nothing Jason Adler doesn’t know about what it takes to make the best hot dogs and hamburgers at the Jersey Shore. As the owner of The WindMill of Red Bank, he’s been proudly connected to the WindMill for over 35 years—“always serving quality food, made simply, always delivered hot and fresh” as Jason likes to say. “We’re like Cheers, we get to know your name, and the way you like your order. It’s a community-gathering place, day and late into the night.”

Sabrett produces the award winning hot dogs with the finest ingredients including an all natural casing. “They snap when you bite them” says Jason. “And the killer burgers are 100% butcher-fresh, never frozen. And nobody beats us at the grill,“ he claims. “The charcoal flame, open grill is specially cured to add to the flavor.” Jason Adler and his wife, Renee

Special discounts always on the menu are KIDS EAT FREE on Tuesdays and HALF PRICE SENIOR Wednesdays. Veggie burgers, sandwiches of fried flounder, chicken breast, and charbroiled rib eye steak, along with sensational sides, and fresh garden salads offer something for everyone. “The cheese fries are “to die for” and now you can add a thick, refreshing shake. What could be better?” he asks. “If I get you in here,” he says, with a knowing smile, “I’ve got you for life.”

THE

COMPOSITE CHART

by ALICE LOFFREDO

The Astro-Elephant in the Living Room

T

ina was perplexed. With a birth chart full of watery, sensitive energy, she had been instantly attracted to Marty, who exuded a strong, solid earth-spirit vibe. His calm, affectionate, loyal ways fit her inwardturned personality to a "T." She felt safe. Cared for. Secure. So did he. They could see themselves sitting together on the living room couch, his arm around her shoulders, reviewing the day just ending and planning for their future, and they saw themselves that way for a lifetime. But a funny thing happened on the way to that couch. The longer they were together, the busier they got. In fact, they were both getting concerned that the relationship could burn each of them out.

Astrology can reveal a lot about the dynamics of a relationship: what each person brings to and wants from it, and how each person in it affects the other one. And perhaps its greatest contribution in this department is its ability to uncover the dynamics of the entity that is the relationship itself, by creating and analyzing a birth chart that combines the energies of the people involved in it. That chart, called the “composite chart,” shows the nature and impact of the “third person” in ANY relationship: partner/partner, parent/child, employer/employee, etc. By unmasking this energetic “elephant in the living room,” the composite chart not only provides objective insight into its influence, but guidance as to how to navigate the relationship. The composite chart is something new, distinct from either of the individuals creating it. Sometimes it is energetically similar to one or both of them, but usually it's not and seems to function with a mind of its own. The triangle it creates is eternal in the relationship for as long as it lasts, and its influence grows only stronger over time. Understanding the nature of this chart and how the planetary movements are affecting it at any time can help the participants integrate its positive potentials into their relationship, side-step pitfalls, and repair damages. Getting back to Tina and Marty, it may come as no surprise that the fire that was burning in their relationship lived in the composite chart. When combined, their watery and earthy energies turned into a bonfire. Working with it, and the other tools in the astrological arsenal that uncovered each individual's own energetic input and how they affected one another, showed how they could leverage all energies involved so that the composite's fiery energies could help Tina and Marty achieve their goals. Meanwhile, their individual watery and earthy energies could make sure that the eternal flame burning brightly in their relationship didn't ignite a wildfire. Ten years in, they head to the couch after the zip line.
