EDITOR’S NOTE

It’s been an eventful few months at the Woman This Month office, putting this edition together and organising the highly anticipated 2024 Woman of the Year (WOTY) Awards .

Many years ago, I read an excerpt that spoke of the transformative impact of women. Sharing the words that resonated most with me, it read: “Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. If you give her a house, she’ll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she’ll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she’ll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her.”

The quote has stood the test of time, and I was reminded of it recently as our team interviewed hundreds of women for the upcoming awards. Their transformative effect on their loved ones and the wider community was inspiring, to say the least. After a meticulous judging and shortlisting process, we have our final list of nominees. So, I urge you, our dear reader, to visit womanoftheyearawards.com and vote for the women who inspire you.

Weddings – a celebration of love – are considered one of the most significant occasions in life. In this edition, you’ll find our special wedding feature, which serves as a guide to celebrating your big day in Bahrain. Flip through the pages for beauty and fashion inspiration, a highly recommended event planner, entertainers, and the finest of Bahrain’s venues, seafront or otherwise. Bestselling author and award-winning therapist Marissa Peer also shares her guide to wedding day wellness. It’s everything you need for the day you say “I do”.

October is a significant month for women’s health, with a focus on raising breast cancer awareness. I’m sure I can safely say that this dreadful disease has directly or indirectly affected us all, and I hope we continue to spread knowledge, raise funds, and support those affected by breast cancer. Think Pink: Bahrain Breast Cancer Society has championed the movement in Bahrain, so be sure to read our interview with its founder and chairwoman, Dr Julie Sprakel, and vice chairwoman, Tahera Al Alawi, following the organisation’s 20th anniversary.

This month, WTM was also granted an exclusive interview with Dr Hashim S. Hussein, who has led the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) since its establishment in 1996.

For more inspiration, I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading about Bahraini adventure traveller Sara Sami, renowned serial entrepreneur Anita Menon, Saar Dental’s Dr Zahra Majeed, seasoned acupuncturist Dr Qian Yi Zi, and Rosemarie Blight’s inspiring journey with yoga.

Finally, our parenting columnist Ouiam El Hassani shares her tips for a successful school year, while behaviour analyst Fifi Kiwan highlights the cognitive challenges behind procrastination.

While there’s plenty to discover in this edition, there’s even more online! So, be sure to visit womanthismonth.com, follow our official Instagram account @womanthismonth, and (not to nag or anything) definitely check womanoftheyearawards.com for updates. We hope you enjoy this edition as much as we enjoyed curating it!

CELEBRATING 100 YEARS

REFLECTING ON A SUMMER TO REMEMBER

WTM’s Brand Ambassador, Esky Dubois, reflects on an eventful summer which included family travel, an inspiring trip steeped in fashion, the publishing of a book and exciting announcements.

Hello readers, how was your summer?

My most significant highlight of this summer was reuniting with my children, Abel & Lea, in Nantes, France, which I found too hot and humid. It was quite funny to hear from everyone who said: “How do you find France too hot? Didn’t you just come from Bahrain?”

My response was: “In Bahrain, we have something called AC, and it’s literally everywhere”. Nevertheless, the humidity and heat were irrelevant compared to the joy of seeing my children. I am sure many of you who sent your children to university and are suffering from an empty nest can relate and understand my joy in reconnecting easily.

However, my summer travel started a bit earlier in Tuscany, Italy, with a trip as part of a delegation of students led by two instructors from the Royal University for Women (RUW) in Bahrain.

The trip, from June 19-26, aimed to benefit students through a full immersion week of training on how to transform raw materials into exquisite textiles. This initiative was supported by the Embassy of Italy in Bahrain and they arranged a meet and greet at their premises before the departure for the delegation.

Italian Ambassador, HE Andrea Catalano, shared his admiration and acknowledged the enthusiasm of the students and the delegation received a warm welcome on its arrival to Italy by House of Lyria.

One of the objectives of the trip was to collaborate in creating a fabric with the motifs of Bahrain. Highlighting the rich and unique heritage of Bahrain, the students presented the motifs which signified flowers and cashew nuts while describing their historical reference and significance to the Kingdom. The multinational delegation which included nationals of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopian-French, India,

Philippines and Egypt not only represented RUW but the vibrant colours of the community of Bahrain.

One of the greatest things I like about travelling is that inspires me to write. In this year’s case, I was inspired to translate my book. I am happy to share that my previous book (Yeferenji Mist) which was first published in the official language of Ethiopia, Amharic, is now available in English. The book, which is titled White Man’s Wife, will be available at Market Street located in Umm Al Hassam and will soon be available online through Amazon. I’m happy to share that the foreword was written by renowned publisher George Middleton while the book was edited by my colleague and journalist, Kristian Harrison.

Last, but certainly not least, I’d like to thank all who were involved in our cover shoot including Angelli ‘Dandy’ Salvino-Rodricks who was instrumental in the set up and will be assisting us with our upcoming event.

As much as I enjoyed summer, I was excited to come back to Bahrain and start working on our upcoming project, the 2024 Woman of the Year Awards. This month marks the final stage of revealing the top three nominees across the categories with voting being open to the public from October 1. I invite and encourage you will take part in voting to celebrate women of excellence.

Dr.

Propelling Development

Dr. Hashim S. Hussein has been at the forefront of driving Bahrain’s entrepreneurial ecosystem for over two decades, leading the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) since its establishment in 1996. In this interview with Woman This Month, Dr. Hussein sheds light on UNIDO’s initiatives, Bahrain’s achievements in entrepreneurship and the future of industrial growth.

Hussein, could you give us an overview of your career and how you came to head the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain?

It has been an honour to head this office since we established it in 1996. My background is in international management, having completed my Master’s and PhD in France, followed by further doctoral research in the US.

I joined UNIDO in 1991 and became the first industrial coordinator for the Gulf region. We quickly realised that private sector development was key to enhancing industrialisation efforts here, which led to

the creation of the ITPO in Bahrain. Today, we are part of a global network, with offices in eight countries including Japan, Italy, Germany, China, South Korea and Russia. Our focus is on mobilising investment and technology, and from Bahrain, we launched what’s known as the ‘Bahrain Model,’ now being implemented globally.

You recently met with Bahrain’s Minister of Social Development. Can you tell us how UNIDO is collaborating with the government on sustainable development?

We work closely with multiple ministries, particularly the Ministry of Finance and Economy, to align our efforts with Bahrain’s

broader development goals. Over the years, this collaboration has expanded to include the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Supreme Council for Women, and many universities. Our work is rooted in education, innovation and entrepreneurship, as we believe that fostering the right mindset early on is essential for sustainable development.

UNIDO Bahrain has played a crucial role in supporting youth and women. Are there any success stories you’d like to highlight?

One of our most celebrated success stories is Mrs. Huda Janahi, a trailblazing entrepreneur who entered our programme in 2001. She gained international recognition when

President George H. W. Bush praised her as a role model for women globally during the World Economic Forum in Davos. This is just one example of how our initiatives have empowered women and youth in Bahrain, thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s vision for economic restructuring, which prioritises these groups. Our efforts have helped millions of youth and women across the world, stemming from this initiative.

How do UNIDO’s projects in Bahrain align with broader regional and international goals?

Our focus is to support local development while also connecting Bahrain to the international community. We work on a range of programmes, particularly under the theme of ‘progress by innovation,’ which involves partnerships with organisations like the Economic and Social Commission of West Asia (ESCWA) and initiatives with countries like India, China and Italy.

The Bahrain Model, which addresses key challenges for SMEs such as access to finance and links between education and entrepreneurship, has become a globally recognised system, adapted to different regions, from the Arab world to Africa and beyond.

What role do investment and technology transfer play in Bahrain’s economic growth, and how does your office contribute?

Bahrain’s strategic position as a financial hub makes it an ideal location for facilitating investment and technology transfer. We work closely with the Ministry of Finance and international organisations to attract the right investments. We also focus on developing the local ecosystem by fostering partnerships between ministries, NGOs, financial institutions and universities. This holistic approach ensures that entrepreneurs have access to both the financial resources and technological tools they need to succeed.

How does industrial growth in Bahrain contribute to job creation, especially post-pandemic?

Industrial growth is critical to job creation, especially as Bahrain continues to embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution. We are working on programmes focused on artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing and digitalisation.

Our partnerships with China, particularly with the city of Shenzhen, and India, through the Confederation of Indian Industry, are part of our efforts to bring cutting-edge technologies to Bahrain. These initiatives aim to help local industries transition to smart manufacturing, which will not only create jobs but also increase the competitiveness of Bahraini businesses globally.

How important is fostering regional cooperation between Arab and African countries in UNIDO’s mission?

Cooperation between Arab and African countries is a key focus area for us. Historically, there has been strong cultural and trade connections between these regions. Over the past 40 years, we’ve seen a growing number of dynamic entrepreneurs from both sides.

We are working to build institutions and programmes that encourage joint investment, research and education, particularly through platforms like our Virtual Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub and partnerships with the Arab Bank for Economic Development for Africa (BADEA).

What do you see as the most pressing challenges for SMEs in Bahrain today, and how is UNIDO helping to address them?

Bahrain has a vibrant start-up ecosystem, but the challenge lies in ensuring the growth and sustainability of these businesses. We are focusing on helping SMEs embrace digitalisation and artificial intelligence to stay competitive. Additionally, given Bahrain’s smaller market size, it is crucial for local entrepreneurs to look beyond borders. Our focus is also on sectors like the creative and orange economy, which are among the fastest-growing industries globally and highly relevant to Bahrain’s talented youth.

As a global leader in investment and technology, what emerging industries do you think hold the most potential for Bahrain’s future economic growth? Industries tied to digitalisation, artificial intelligence and smart manufacturing are where we see the most potential. The education system needs to evolve to match these trends, ensuring that the future workforce is equipped with the necessary skills. We are already working with international partners, such as the International Youth and Innovation Organisation in China, to bring these technologies to Bahrain. The focus now is on aligning these efforts with global trends to drive Bahrain’s future growth.

Is there anything else you would like entrepreneurs in Bahrain to know about UNIDO’s work?

Our doors are always open. We work with the entire ecosystem in Bahrain, from government ministries to NGOs and universities, to support both emerging and established entrepreneurs. A unique initiative we’re running is the School Olympics for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which encourages students to think globally while developing solutions for local challenges. This programme is part of our broader effort to embed entrepreneurship in the education system and prepare the next generation of innovators.

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF HOPE & IMPACT

October heralds the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to spreading knowledge, raising funds and supporting those affected by breast cancer. In Bahrain, this movement is championed by Think Pink: Bahrain Breast Cancer Society, an organisation that has been a beacon of hope, education and support for the last two decades. On this special occasion, Woman This Month sat down with the Founder and Chairwoman, Dr. Julie Sprakel, and Vice Chairwoman, Tahera Al Alawi, to reflect on the remarkable journey and future plans of this incredible organisation.

Looking back at the past 20 years, how does it feel to have reached this milestone for Think Pink?

Tahera Al Alawi: It has been an incredible journey. Reaching our 20th year is no surprise; we’ve maintained our position by nurturing our patients, supporting the system and driving our campaigns consistently. We have always been transparent, accessible, and driven by evidence-based decisions centred on our community.

Dr. Julie Sprakel: The original idea for Think Pink was just a oneoff event in June 2004 at Camelot Restaurant. We had 100 guests and raised over BD5000, which was matched by a private donor, bringing the total to BD10,500. The response was overwhelming, and what began as a small gesture turned into something much bigger. We became the first breast cancer-specific NGO in Bahrain and today, ‘Think Pink’ is a recognised trademark. We’re proud of how the conversation and our reach have grown over the years.

What were some of the key achievements and milestones for the organisation during these two decades?

Tahera Al Alawi: There have been many, but two of the most significant were purchasing a digital MRI machine for Salmaniya Medical Hospital in 2016, which cost BD499,900, the Longest Ribbon campaign with Bahrain International Circuit, and documenting the National Breast Cancer Guidelines for Bahrain in 2018, endorsed by the Supreme Council for Health (SCH) and the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA). How has breast cancer awareness changed in Bahrain since Think Pink began its efforts?

Tahera Al Alawi: When Think Pink started, very few people knew what the pink ribbon symbolised, and breast cancer was a taboo subject. Women felt isolated and didn’t know how to express their struggles. Now, we see schools, corporates and even individuals rallying in support. The buildings don pink lights in October, and it has become a national effort. What we’ve achieved together as a community is nothing short of incredible. What challenges have you and the team faced, and how have you overcome them?

Dr. Julie Sprakel: Challenges have always been there, but they’ve shaped who we are as a team. People often see the glamour of our events, but the hard work behind it involves commitment and dedication. We all work full-time jobs and volunteer our time to keep the charity running. It’s the support from individuals, families and corporates that keeps us going. We are proud to say that all funds raised stay in Bahrain to help our community, and we’ve been endorsed by the NHRA and SCH, which is a testament to the credibility of our work.

What impact do you feel Think Pink has had on the community in terms of education and early detection?

Dr. Julie Sprakel: The Think Pink mobile app is a great example of how we’ve utilised

technology to raise awareness. It’s a free, bilingual app that has been downloaded by thousands of people, helping them take control of their health. We also offer internationally-recognised qualifications to Bahraini healthcare providers. For instance, we’ve funded Klose Lymphoedema and MSc programmes at RCSI Bahrain. Our decision aids in Arabic and English empower patients to make informed decisions about their care, which is crucial for early detection.

What new initiatives or goals do you envision for the next phase of Think Pink’s journey?

Tahera Al Alawi: Patient support will remain at the forefront of our mission. We plan to partner with government entities to establish one-stop breast cancer clinics across the island. We’re also developing a patientcentred application to help families navigate the journey, giving patients a voice and embedding post-care services focused on well-being.

Dr. Julie Sprakel: We’re also launching a new initiative, ‘Race to a Million,’ which encourages people to pledge to regularly check themselves for signs of breast cancer. The project is symbolised by a six-metre ‘I Check’ ribbon, which will serve as a reminder that awareness isn’t just for October. We’re thrilled to have Bahrain Bricks supporting this initiative and can’t wait to see where the ribbon will be placed.

How can people continue to support Think Pink moving forward, especially as you enter this new chapter?

Dr. Julie Sprakel: First and foremost, knowledge is power. People need to be aware and use the free tools we provide, made possible through donations, to stay in charge of their health. Corporate and individual sponsors are also vital to our continued success, and we are hoping to bring even more Bahraini companies on board for the next 20 years.

Any final thoughts or messages for those who have been part of Think Pink’s journey for the last 20 years?

Dr. Julie Sprakel: It’s hard to believe that Think Pink is 20 years old. I feel incredibly proud of Bahrain, the country I call home, and of everyone who has supported us since the beginning. Some of our founding team members are flying in from around the world for our 20th anniversary gala. The same sponsors from our early days continue to step up, and we look forward to welcoming new supporters to help us continue our work.

Tahera Al Alawi: As we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let’s not forget that Think Pink’s work is #NotJustForOctober. Our efforts continue throughout the year, and with the support of the community, we are ready to embark on the next chapter of our journey.

The Think Pink Gala will take place on October 25 at the Gulf Hotel, supported by Platinum sponsors including RCSI Bahrain, Gulf Hotels Group and Bahrain Rugby Football Club. Tickets are on sale, for more information contact 39 076-717, follow @thinkpinkbahrain or visit thinkpinkbahrain.com

This year, the Race to a Million Challenge will be introduced, aiming to sell one million bricks to construct the iconic “iCheck” – Think Pink Bahrain’s trademark logo. The initiative is being held in cooperation with the NGO Bahrain Bricks W.L.L.

This initiative symbolises hope and resilience for those affected by breast cancer.

Why Bricks? These represent community creativity and solidarity, symbolising the support network built around breast cancer patients and reflecting our commitment to education and prevention.

By pirchasing a brick, you directly contribute to Think Pink Bahrain’s mission.

Happily Ever After

STARTS HERE

Getting married is one of the most exciting, yet overwhelming, experiences in one’s life. The WomanThis Monthteam brings you the ultimate guide to celebrating your big day in Bahrain. From your dress to the rings, the venue to celebrate with your loved ones, worldclass entertainment and everything in between – here’s everything you need for the day you say “I do.”

Here Comes the Bride

The latest edition of Woman This Month immediately catches the eye with its captivating bridal cover star, Anna Nazimova. Known for her work as a cellist, Anna showcases a different side, stepping into the role of a bride for the magazine’s highly anticipated Wedding feature. The Woman This Month team brought together some of Bahrain’s most talented professionals to craft a dream-like bridal vision that blends modern trends with timeless elegance.

There’s no denying that on the day of the wedding, all eyes will mostly be on the bride. The perfect gown, a glowing smile and captivating aesthetic are the subject of great admiration on the day and has the ability to turn heads.

Concept Director Esky Dubois envisioned a look that captured both classic bridal beauty and current trends. The overall mood was romantic yet sophisticated, designed to appeal to today’s bride who seeks elegance but with a modern twist. Creative Coordinator Vinny Aseeja ensured this vision came to life, keeping every aspect – from the gown to the lighting – perfectly in sync.

The photography was handled by Shukri Rasool, who expertly framed Anna in a way that not only showcased her as a stunning bride but also highlighted the details that modern brides often look for in a wedding gown.

The Wedding Dress

The luxurious bridal gown, designed by Eliane Choucair and provided by The Wardrobe Bahrain, exemplifies what many brides are searching for today: a dress that combines intricate details with a sleek, flowing silhouette.

The Wardrobe Bahrain, with outlets in City Centre Bahrain and Al Aali Mall, is known for its wide range of bridal wear, offering something for every bride’s unique style. More of its designs can also be seen by checking out @the_wardrobe_bh on Instagram.

Brides today are drawn to features like elegant embroidery, delicate lace and dramatic trains, some of which were key elements in Anna’s gown. Dresses with long, flowing trains are in vogue, providing a fairytale-like quality while maintaining a sense of grandeur. Intricate embroidery and beading have also made a strong return, allowing brides to make a statement with unique detailing that reflects their personal style. Anna’s gown perfectly encapsulated these trends, making it an ideal choice for the cover shoot.

The Aesthetic

The Set

Set Designer Dandy Salvino created a backdrop that was both romantic and minimalist, allowing the gown to be the centrepiece of the shoot. The set’s soft, ethereal tones echoed the delicate beauty of the dress, making for a truly stunning visual. Salvino’s approach reflected the current trends in wedding decor, which lean toward elegant simplicity – think soft pastels, gentle lighting and floral arrangements that add a touch of whimsy without overpowering the scene.

Wedding hair and makeup, done by Toni&Guy, complemented the look beautifully. Brides today often seek a fresh, natural glow, opting for soft makeup that enhances their features rather than overpowering them. For the hair, romantic waves or sleek updos remain popular, with many brides choosing styles that balance tradition with contemporary chic. Toni&Guy’s team ensured that Anna’s look tied seamlessly into the overall aesthetic, creating a final bridal look that was effortlessly graceful yet entirely modern. Be sure to follow @toniandguybahrain on Instagram.

While the bridal gown is undoubtedly the centre of attention, modern weddings are about more than just the dress. Weddings today are about personalisation – brides and grooms want their special day to reflect their unique love story, and every detail matters, from the gown to the jewellery to the decor. The photoshoot in Woman This Month is a reflection of this, blending creative talent with the latest trends to create a bridal vision that is both personal and timeless.

Be sure to fully explore this latest edition to read an exclusive interview with Anna, and plenty of inspiration for brides-to-be.

WHAT MAKES LUNTO SPECIAL

Founded in 2021 by Alan Sino, the brand’s journey was inspired by a personal experience when a family member suffered severe skin allergies due to traditional beauty products. This sparked a passion in Mr. Sino to develop products that prioritise individual well-being while promoting sustainability.

What sets Lunto Cosmetics apart is its unique combination of premium natural ingredients, ethical sourcing and sustainability. Unlike other luxury brands that may focus on outward beauty alone, Lunto Cosmetics takes a holistic approach. Adding to the brand’s appeal is an eco-friendly approach which means users can indulge in these sensational products guilt-free!

The brand’s commitment to natural and effective solutions ensures that its customers can achieve healthy, radiant skin without the need for makeup.

THE BEST OF BEAUTY PRODUCTS

While the brand primarily focuses on skincare, its range extends beyond simple solutions.

Lunto’s exciting product line-up includes natural soaps, serums, moisturisers, face oils, cleansers and gold-infused products. These best-sellers have gained immense popularity due to their effectiveness in improving skin texture and radiance. These products are designed to be gentle on sensitive skin while delivering visible results, which has made them a favourite among customers looking for cleaner beauty options without harsh chemicals.

Those looking for transformed skin or to elevate their skincare routine can opt for one of the brand’s result-driven serums including the Vitamin C Serum that combats skin aging, the Vitamin A Serum to smooth and clear blemishes, the Brightening Serum for an even skin tone and youthful glow or the Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Serum for a natural glow and strong skin barrier.

Other skincare products that offer preventative or transformative care are the sun screens for oily or dry skin, the Anti-Acne Cream and Moisturising Face Cream. Lunto’s attention to detail and luxury is perhaps most evident in its bespoke beauty packages for weddings. The brand offers personalised collections, including the lavender and rose-themed packages as well as an exclusive 24-karat gold collection. This particular line, which includes day and night face oils and the brand’s highlycoveted golden bar soap, is infused with pure

24-karat gold, which has been clinically tested and proven to benefit cosmetic applications, making it a popular choice for brides seeking glowing, radiant skin on their special day.

As a Bahraini brand, Lunto understands the unique beauty preferences and cultural standards of Bahrain and the Gulf region. Its formulations are designed to suit various skin tones, types and concerns, ensuring that everyone can find a product that addresses their individual beauty needs. By engaging with local communities, Lunto incorporates regional beauty practices into their product development, making the brand accessible and inclusive for all.

As Lunto Cosmetics looks to the future, the brand is continuously exploring innovative technologies in the beauty industry while staying true to its natural roots. One exciting development on the horizon is the launch of a new line of fragrances made entirely from natural, plant-based aromatic oils. These perfumes will offer customers luxurious, nature-inspired scents that align with the brand’s dedication to sustainability and natural ingredients – just scent-sational!

Looking ahead, Lunto has ambitious plans for growth. While organic brand growth is a priority, the brand is also open to collaborations with influencers and celebrities who share its values of natural beauty, sustainability and ethical luxury. Lunto’s future vision involves becoming a leading name in the luxury skincare industry not only in Bahrain but across the Middle East. Expansion efforts will focus on increasing presence through online channels, retail partnerships and potentially flagship stores.

With a commitment to sustainability, natural ingredients and local cultural understanding, Lunto is poised to continue its journey as a pioneering brand in Bahrain and beyond, offering beauty solutions that resonate with the modern, eco-conscious consumer. Its journey from a personal struggle with traditional beauty products to a thriving brand is a testament to its dedication to creating beauty that’s both luxurious and responsible. A DAY OF

Beauty & Bliss

Vitality Wellness & Spa has grown for its stellar beauty services. Farah Baig and the Woman This Month team review its sensational treatments.

I’vealways believed that beauty treatments are an essential part of every woman’s monthly selfcare and not just in the sense of aesthetics.

This August, I visited Vitality Wellness & Spa along with some of my coworkers to explore a range of its highly recommended services. I’m sure that we can all agree that one of the main reasons most women become regulars at a salon or spa are its people. Usha Jagdish and Khushi Asher, along with the rest of the Vitality team, are an absolute joy to interact with. Since I was fresh off a busy and stressful deadline, they recommended that I opt for a relaxing Swedish massage. The massage room was set up beautifully with relaxing music, dimmed lighting and a comfortable massage table. I appreciated the fact that my masseuse, Hannah, asked which areas needed the most attention – it just had to be my shoulders. After warming up some massage oil, she expertly kneaded away knots and tense muscles for what I can only describe as an hour of bliss. I can confirm that it wasn’t just momentary relaxation, but long-lasting relief that I felt for weeks after.

Meanwhile, my colleagues were enjoyed sensational manis and pedis with their experienced beauticians. Vitality not only pays attention to aesthetics but upholds the highest standards of hygiene when it comes to their services when is an essential,

especially in the case of nail services. Nail services have completely transformed in recent years, and Vitality has kept up with the latest of trends. You can opt for the best of nail extensions and stunning nail art including a beautiful chrome finish.

What really caught my eye were the stunning polygel extensions my coworker opted for. These beautiful extensions in a shade of pink were embellished with minimalistic hearts. If you’re ever opting for a look without extensions, be sure to try out Vitality’s gel mani-pedi.

Over the years, heat styling has become a part of my daily routine on top of my preference for highlighted hair. Unfortunately, what this means for me is that my hair can get quite dry and frizzy. Thankfully Vitality offers a wide range of hair services to address your concerns. I opted for its Hair Detox treatment.

To begin, the team thoroughly washed my hair before applying a pleasantly fragrant mask to my hair. My hair was then steamed while I relaxed, read and scrolled away in peace. About half an hour later, the mask was washed out and the team expertly blow dried my hair. The before and after was absolutely remarkable. My hair was soft and silky smooth, btu what made the treatment even better was the fact that the results lasted long after.

With a morning of relaxation, trusted beauty services, cheerful banter and quite the transformation, we can say with ease that Vitality Wellness & Spa is the place to be for your beauty needs!

JOZ Group, a renowned provider of international beauty brands and services, has brought Toni&Guy to City Centre Bahrain and Seef Mall. Known for its innovative and stunning hair, nails and colour services, along with many more, Toni&Guy prides itself on delivering exceptional value to its customers.

As a brand ambassador, I was eager to experience Toni&Guy’s services firsthand. However, my previous experience with a hairdresser at another salon, who assumed my hair was difficult to manage due to it being curly, made me hesitant.

My apprehension quickly vanished upon meeting Clint Finikarides, a style director at the City Centre Bahrain salon. Despite my initial desire for a brighter colour and highlights, Clint advised that my damaged hair needed a break from chemical treatments –refreshingly honest advice that every woman who is seeking beauty services appreciates.

During our consultation, Clint explained that my fine, frizzy hair was sensitive to further damage from chemical processes. He recommended a gentler approach, starting with hair treatments and mild toning services until my hair was healthier.

He decided to tone my hair with the Ash Chocolate shade from L’Oreal Dia Colour and followed up with a V3 Foam treatment from

Toni&Guy’s convenient locations at two of Bahrain’s most popular malls allows for effortless multi-tasking, making it a great choice for both men and women. If you’re in City Centre Bahrain or Seef Mall, I highly recommend visiting Toni&Guy for a luxurious and rejuvenating experience.

THE EVENT PLANNER’S TALE

Angelli ‘Dandy’ Salvino-Rodricks is one of the most renowned names in Bahrain’s event planning industry. As the Senior Operations Consultant at Showtech Productions WLL and Founder of Ever After, she blends creativity, empathy, years of experience and deep connections with clients into every event she plans. In this exclusive interview with Woman This Month, she shares her story with Farah Baig and exciting news about the upcoming rebranding of Ever After.

Could you tell our readers a little bit about yourself?

I’ve always seen myself as a blend of two very different worlds, which has shaped how I approach event planning. My life’s journey has allowed me to experience a variety of perspectives, which in turn helps me create events that are not only beautiful but also emotionally resonant. I believe in love and in celebrating those magical moments when people find their ‘ever after.’ Bringing those visions to life is not just my job – it’s a privilege.

When did you first venture into event planning?

Event planning has always been a part of me. Even as a child, I was the one organising games and events for the children in our community. By age 12, I had started an organisation with my playmates, where we raised money through a variety of shows and sports events for charity. It feels surreal looking back, but that’s where it all began.

When did you establish yourself as a wedding planner?

It wasn’t a planned move into the wedding industry. My husband, who runs an AV production company, introduced me to the world of events. After working on one large wedding, I realised how critical the role of a planner is in making the couple’s journey smoother and more enjoyable. Wedding planning is incredibly complex, and my husband’s passion for top-tier events inspired me to take the leap into this field. I love making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Could you tell us about your upcoming rebrand and the range of services you will offer?

We are launching a brand this month that will focus on a unique conceptualisation approach to event aesthetics. Our services will cater to both individual clients and B2B partners. For destination weddings, especially in Bahrain, we want to provide seamless support to partnered wedding planners. Additionally, our parent company, Showtech Productions WLL, will handle all the audio-visual and technical aspects, ensuring a flawless event experience.

Will your brand cater to corporate events or just weddings?

While we are focused on personalised events like weddings, we also cater to corporate events for our B2B clients. Weddings are personal, but even corporate events need that personal touch to connect with the audience. Our approach is rooted in creating meaningful connections, and that applies to both types of events.

What has been the most unique event you’ve planned so far?

Each event we’ve done has had its own unique character because every client is different. We always strive to reflect the distinct personality and story of our clients through personalised décor, custom lighting and storytelling. However, we have something truly special planned for our rebrand opening. It will be tied to giving back to the community, inspired by Bahrain’s Vision 2030. It’s going to be both unique and moving.

What sets your brand apart from other event planning companies in Bahrain?

Our philosophy and approach are what set us apart. We bring deep empathy and understanding to each client’s journey, and we believe in telling their stories through the aesthetics and feel of their event. It’s not just about planning an event; it’s about bringing our clients’ true essence to life.

Furthermore, taking a humanitarian approach to all that we do is very important to us. The flowers bought by clients are usually donated to the sick, the elderly and even pedestrians. After all, I wish to lead a community that gives back because what matters most is for people to smile.

Do you find it easy to close clients with this approach?

Actually, it’s quite challenging. Many clients are drawn to quantity over quality, opting

for packages that focus on the ‘more is grand’ trend. But we believe that all clients, especially brides, deserve more than just a grand look – they deserve an event that reflects who they truly are. It’s about celebrating their story, not just creating a big show.

Do you assist clients in finding and booking suitable venues?

Yes, we do. We not only help find the right venues but also connect our clients with vendors who match their needs and personalities. Choosing the right venue and vendors is critical in ensuring the event aligns with the client’s vision.

Do you cater to international clients as well?

Absolutely! We are already working on a destination wedding for 2025. Many of our clients feel comfortable working with us because they know we can support them, no matter where their event takes place.

How has your business grown since you started?

I feel incredibly blessed. We’ve expanded our services and grown in many ways, but we’ve always stayed true to our core values –integrity and putting our clients first. This has allowed us to create meaningful, impactful events that continue to reflect our growth and dedication to excellence.

Wedding season is just around the corner – what advice would you give to couples planning their weddings?

My advice is to focus on what matters most to you as a couple. The décor sets the atmosphere, but what makes a wedding memorable are the moments shared with loved ones. Create an ambience that reflects your personality and story, rather than trying to meet external expectations. The joy you bring to your day will be what everyone remembers.

Have you had any interesting or funny experiences with clients?

Oh yes, I once worked with a bride who wanted a very extravagant entrance and décor, but I could sense that her personal style was more delicate and elegant. I suggested something more toned-down and regal to highlight her designer dress. At first, she wasn’t thrilled and asked me: “Do you want business or not?” In the end, we found a middle ground, and it turned out to be a beautiful collaboration. It’s all about balance.

What’s the most difficult part of being an event planner?

The challenges are endless – weather issues, venue logistics, managing suppliers – but staying calm and being prepared is key. You have to be adaptable and ready to tackle any obstacles as they come. It’s all part of the job!

Could you tell us more about the aesthetic approach of your new brand?

Our new brand will feature a contemporary blend of romantic and tech-forward elements, thanks to my husband’s continuous support. The events will have a modern yet soulful feel, combining sleek design with warmth and personality. It’s about creating cuttingedge events that also carry a deep sense of meaning.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible people who support me – my family, my team and my partners. They inspire me daily, and we’re all excited about what lies ahead with this rebranding. We’re ready to face any challenges with true partnership and respect.

Are You Not Entertained?

Ranya Malovič, the co-founder and artistic director of Green Room, is revolutionising the entertainment industry in Bahrain. From humble beginnings in Slovakia, where her passion for performance began, Ranya has built a luxury entertainment company that offers bespoke shows tailored to clients’ needs. In this interview with Kristian Harrison, she tells Woman This Month about her thirst for creativity, empowering female artists and breaking boundaries in the Kingdom.

Born into a family of doctors and engineers, Ranya’s passion for the stage was evident from an early age. She recalls dancing for hours at home, with a blanket laid out on the floor to transform it into an impromptu stage. At the age of four, her parents enrolled her in dance classes, which eventually set her on a lifelong path towards performance. Despite her artistic inclinations, Ranya also had a strong academic side, which led her to pursue a Master’s degree in security studies from the prestigious Paris Institute of Political Science. “I’ve always had a big interest in science,” she shares, “but the stage was where I felt most at home.”

After leaving Slovakia right after high school, Ranya lived in several countries before finally settling in Bahrain in 2015. Now living with her husband and their four rescue pets – three cats and a dog – she still enjoys horseback riding and is currently training her young mare, Sofia.

The Vision

Ranya’s journey began with a clear goal: to fill a gap in the Bahraini market by creating an artist management company with a focus on supporting performers, particularly women. “When I started Green Room a little over four years ago, I wanted to bridge a gap,” she explains. “There were many event organising companies but no artist management companies that specialised in managing artists, producing and choreographing stage shows, and creating high-quality show costumes in-house.”

One of Ranya’s primary goals with Green Room is to ensure the welfare and appreciation of the artists under her management, an aspect she believes is often overlooked in the industry. As a woman in a male-dominated field, she is particularly invested in the safety and security of female performers. “With a heavy demand for booking female artists, I thought it was about time a woman became the manager,” she says. “It’s important to make sure female artists are safe, secure and treated equally at all times.”

Ranya is especially proud to represent the only performing Bahraini ballerina and acrobat, a testament to Green Room’s commitment to nurturing local stars. “Bahrain has so much amazing female talent – from musicians to DJs, to singers and dancers,” she shares. “Our portfolio of Bahraini artists is growing each season.”

A Partnership Built on Mutual Respect

The success of Green Room is not solely Ranya’s achievement; her partnership with Moayyed ‘Mo’ Feroze, a Bahraini businessman, has been integral to the company’s growth. The two first met in 2019 during a gig where Moayyed needed a female fire show artist. Their professional chemistry was immediate, and soon, their families grew close as well. “Fun fact – Mo and I share the same birthday. I guess that’s a good omen,” she laughs.

Their partnership works because of their complementary skills. While Ranya brings expertise in show production and artistic vision, Moayyed contributes his deep

knowledge of Bahrain’s legal and business landscape. “The love and respect that Mo has for his country and the potential it holds for the region, and how he then translates it into our work, is amazing,” she says. “That is a huge part of Green Room’s success without a doubt. He sees what Bahrain has to offer and puts this vision into the company, and when we combine it, it’s amazing to see the results.”

Creating Bespoke Entertainment

Green Room specialises in luxury, bespoke shows tailored to the client’s specific vision. While the company does offer a catalogue of ready-made performances, Ranya finds the process of creating custom shows to be the most rewarding. “We get the client’s idea, create a mood board for them, sketch costume designs, select music and start creating from there,” she explains.

What sets Green Room apart is its in-depth technical knowledge. Ranya and her team know exactly what is and isn’t feasible in terms of logistics and venue requirements. Whether it’s the dimensions needed for aerial acrobatics or the type of flooring for ballet in pointe shoes, Green Room ensures that no detail is overlooked. This meticulous attention to technicalities enables them to produce some of the most extravagant shows on the island. “Some of my personal favourites are very private ones under strict NDAs, but I can say they included a horse parade,” she hints.

Supporting Fellow Artists

Ranya is deeply committed to ensuring that the artists she manages feel supported and respected. “Artistry and skill are, of course, the first two qualities I look for, followed by responsibility and reliability,” she notes. However, she understands that her role as a manager goes beyond just talent scouting. “I make sure that my artists have the conditions necessary to deliver those high-calibre performances our clients expect.”

She also emphasises the importance of maintaining a balance between creativity and professionalism in an industry where clients

can sometimes have conservative tastes. “Of course, my vision doesn’t always align with that of the clients. Sometimes I have more out-of-the-box ideas, but we always manage to find the right balance,” she says. “At the end of the day, we love what we do, and any booking is a creative outlet for us.”

Safety is also a top priority for Ranya, not just for her performers but for the entire team. “We always have a coordinator or a designated senior dance captain with our team on-site,” she explains. Additionally, Green Room requires secure changing rooms and professional security staff to ensure that performers feel safe during and outside of events.

Ongoing Training and Recruitment

Green Room artists are hired as existing professionals, but Ranya believes in the importance of continuous improvement. “All of our artists come to us already trained in their respective fields, but we offer opportunities for cross-training and further education,” she says. Green Room organises workshops and training sessions and ensures that all performers maintain their skills, even in the off-season.

The hiring process is equally rigorous. While Ranya relies heavily on her network built over 20 years of performing, she also uses standard recruitment channels and holds casting calls. Given the logistical challenges of Bahrain compared to larger entertainment hubs like Dubai, much of the casting is done via video call.

Looking Forward

As Green Room gears up for another show season, Ranya is excited about what the future holds. “We’re looking forward to another amazing show season ahead,” she concludes. Under Ranya’s leadership, the company has created a space where creativity, professionalism and respect for performers coexist harmoniously. Add in some flair for the extraordinary, and it promises to be very exciting times ahead for the Kingdom’s entertainment scene.

Cellist’s The Journey

From a small city in Russia to the beating heart of Bahrain’s entertainment scene, Anna Nazimova’s musical journey is as inspiring as it is remarkable. As the founder of Creative Beats, an entertainment and artist management company, she continues to mesmerise audiences with her performances and creative projects. In an exclusive interview with Woman This Month, Anna tells Kristian Harrison about turning her passion for music into a thriving business.

“I am from Ulyanovsk, Russia, which some refer to as the Motherland of Communism, being the birthplace of Vladimir Lenin,” Anna reminisces. “I come from a simple family. My mother, a psychologist, always dreamt of playing the piano, but growing up in a small village, it wasn’t possible. So, she made sure my sisters and I all graduated from music school.” At the age of seven, her photographer father enrolled her in a cello class, a decision that would shape her future. Her musical education is rooted in the classical tradition. “I am proud to belong to the Russian classical cello school,” she explains. Under the tutelage of a teacher who studied with the renowned cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, Anna honed her skills and developed a deep love for the instrument. But it wasn’t just classical musicians who influenced her. “Tina Gou, an American cellist of Chinese origin, opened a new world of music for me. She was the first famous cellist to perform on an electric cello, and it became my dream to own one. Now, I have three!” she says enthusiastically.

business. “Creative Beats is an entertainment and artist management company which provides live music and performers for events,” she says passionately.

After completing her studies at the Saratov State Conservatory in Russia, Anna’s career took her around the world. She performed in countries like Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Hong Kong and South Korea. But it was a friend’s invitation to perform in a classical trio at the Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain that changed everything. “I fell in love with Bahrain. The people here are so open and hospitable. I feel loved and appreciated,” she reflects. In 2019, Anna founded Creative Beats, fulfilling a long-held dream of owning her own

Merging entrepreneurship with performance, however, comes with its own set of challenges. “It’s not easy, but it opens doors to out-of-the-box solutions. I’ve had to learn how to balance creativity with structure, setting clear business goals while allowing room for artistic freedom,” she explains. Time management and a clear schedule have been crucial in navigating the dual roles of performer and business owner.

The evolving music scene in Bahrain has been a fertile ground for Creative Beats to thrive. “When we started, there was already a passion for live performances, but I noticed a

gap in the diversity of entertainment options. Bahrain’s audience has become more open to different forms of artistic expression, and we’ve embraced this by offering unique and innovative performances that blend music with visually dynamic acts,” she says.

Looking ahead, Anna is excited about what the future holds for both her and Creative Beats. “I’m working on several projects, including a new wedding show and a dynamic performance featuring female drummers, perfect for corporate and festival events,” she shares.

Anna’s passion for her work is palpable, and as she says, “I run my business as a woman, and I follow my heart by turning my fantasies into real projects.”

In Full Bloom

Just as fashion goes through seasonal trends and changes, flowers have their trends too. Whether it’s the bride’s bouquet, unique centre pieces or overall venue décor, you’re sure to find some inspiration here.

Flowers have a way of adding a refreshing touch to a wedding. While most couples would opt for classic red roses or pastel arrangements, 2024 breathes new life into couples’ floral preferences. Here are some of the latest trends to inspire you.

Colourful and Vibrant

Pastels may have a universal appeal, but colourful bouquets bring a kaleidoscope of happy emotions to celebrations. Opt for hues of red, purple, yellow and more.

Rustic, Country Chic

Rustic style weddings have more of an emphasis on nature in its truest form. So it’s less about perfectly manicured designs and more about creating a vibe that’s similar to visiting the countryside.

Exotic & Flamboyant

Bouquets are a lot more creative now, so you’re likely to see less brides opting for all-rose bouquets. For arrangements that turn heads, décor now includes hyacinths, anthuriums, tulips, protea and more.

It also ensures that its operations are water-neutral, a significant achievement in an industry that traditionally consumes large amounts of water.

Additionally, Asian Paints Berger is developing eco-friendly products, including low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) paints, which have a lower environmental impact and reduce health risks associated with conventional paints. Before the Wedding: Shift from Perfection to Presence

Wedding planning can feel like a race to meet everyone’s expectations – yours, your family’s and your friends’. Many couples get stuck in the trap of trying to plan the perfect wedding. But this constant striving for perfection often leads to stress, burnout and inevitable disappointment when things don’t go according to plan (which they won’t!).

Here’s the reality: there’s no such thing as perfect. What’s truly important is it’s YOUR day, so just focus on being present and savour every moment.

The best way to do this is to prioritise yourself. Set clear boundaries to protect your time and energy, and take regular breaks from planning to do things that make you feel calm and relaxed. To help you stay grounded, take a peaceful walk in nature, meditate, read or simply catch up with friends.

A technique I share with my clients is, at times of overwhelm, stop and repeat the affirmation, “I am enough, my wedding will be enough, and my love is enough.” This not only helps silence your inner critic but also reminds you what’s really important –

Best-selling author and award-winning renowned therapist, Marisa Peer, shares her Guide to Wedding Day Wellness.

Your wedding is meant to be one of the happiest days of your life; however, in my 30 years as a therapist, I’ve worked with countless brides and grooms who’ve felt overwhelmed by anxiety, self-doubt and postwedding blues. Some are also hit with guilt for even feeling this way at a time when they think they should be feeling excited and happy!

Managing your mental health during this time is absolutely crucial – not just for enjoying your big day but also for creating a happy, fulfilling marriage that lasts well beyond the wedding day.

celebrating your love and connection, not achieving perfection.

After the Wedding: Embracing the Transition

Once the wedding is over, many couples experience an unexpected emotional crash or post-wedding blues.

The important thing to remember is that there is nothing wrong with feeling this way. After months of planning and anticipation, it’s normal to feel a sense of emptiness or even sadness once it’s all behind you.

Instead of viewing this as negative, embrace it as an opportunity to refocus your energy on what really matters now – your marriage.

Talk to your partner, share your feelings, and remember that you are in this together.

Protecting Your Mental Health as a Couple

A strong marriage is built on open communication, quality time, and prioritising mental and emotional well-being as a team. So, make sure you continue to plan date nights, spend quiet time together, and make time to talk each day.

Above all, remember: just like your wedding day, marriage comes with its ups and downs, but by prioritising your mental health, you’ll help build a relationship grounded in love, strength, and lasting connection.

A NEW ERA OF BAHRAINI HEALTHCARE

In just under a year, Alkem Health and Wellness has ignited a healthcare revolution in Bahrain. With over 1,300 patients served since its launch, this innovative medical centre isn’t just treating illnesses — it is redefining wellness and setting new standards in patient care and medical innovation.

We’re not here to follow trends; we’re here to set them,”

says Aaron Grimley, Alkem’s CEO. This bold approach is evident in every aspect of Alkem’s operation, from its state-of-the-art facilities to its advanced treatments. “We offer a comprehensive suite of services that address every aspect of our clients’ health and wellness needs,” Aaron adds.

At the heart of Alkem’s philosophy is a commitment to holistic, patientcentred care. “Healthcare isn’t just about curing diseases,” Aaron explains. “It’s about nurturing overall well-being and empowering individuals to take charge of their health.” This approach represents a paradigm shift in a world where healthcare is often reactive rather than proactive.

This empowerment starts with education. “Knowledge is the key to better health,” asserts Naz Grimley, Alkem’s President. “We don’t just treat our clients; we partner with them, providing the tools and understanding they need to achieve optimal vitality.”

This partnership approach has led to remarkable outcomes, with patients reporting improvements in their physical health and a renewed sense of control over their lives.

Alkem’s services are as diverse as they are innovative. The medical centre’s IV therapy programme shows their commitment to cutting-edge wellness solutions. This advanced treatment goes beyond conventional approaches, offering a versatile tool for optimising health and vitality. “Our diverse range of IVs can help with anything from recovering from jet lag to recovering from cancer treatments,” she says.

Yet, this revolutionary service is merely one aspect of Alkem’s comprehensive care. The centre’s holistic approach encompasses a broad spectrum of innovative health solutions

designed to enhance overall well-being and empower patients on their journey to optimal health. From naturopathic medicine that harnesses the healing power of nature, to chiropractic care that provides non-invasive treatments for musculoskeletal issues, Alkem offers a wide range of services that blend traditional wisdom with modern science. What truly sets Alkem apart, however, is its deep understanding of Bahraini culture. “We’ve tailored our approach to align with local values and customs,” Aaron Grimley notes. This cultural understanding is evident in everything from the Arabic tashkeel in Alkem’s logo to the composition of its staff, which boasts a high proportion of local talent alongside international experts. Integrating global best practices with local sensibilities has allowed Alkem to forge deep connections within the community.

Alkem’s commitment to innovation extends beyond its medical practices. The company has embraced digital health technologies, offering telemedicine services and a stateof-the-art patient portal that allows clients to access their health records, schedule appointments, and communicate with their healthcare team securely and conveniently. “We’re leveraging technology to make healthcare more accessible and efficient,” explains Aaron Grimley. This is further strengthened by Alkem’s app, which provides free health education on many exciting topics and is led by Alkem’s expert practitioners. The centre’s influence extends far beyond its walls. Alkem has initiated several community health programmes, including free health screenings and health education workshops – most recently at the Batelco Orphan House. “We see ourselves as more than just a healthcare provider,” says Naz Grimley. “We’re a partner in building a healthier Bahrain.”

This commitment to community well-being has earned Alkem widespread recognition, including a recent award for Startup of the Year 2024 from THMC, under the patronage

As Alkem approaches its second year, the company’s ambitions are growing. “We’re just getting started,” Aaron Grimley enthuses. “Our goal is to make Bahrain a beacon of healthcare innovation for the entire region.” Plans are underway for expansion, both in services and reach. The company is exploring partnerships with international research institutions and looking at ways to bring the latest medical advancements to the Kingdom. In addition, the company is launching a franchising opportunity for investors to open a branch in a location of their choice both within Bahrain and outside of the country.

With its blend of compassionate care, cuttingedge practices, and unwavering commitment to patient empowerment, Alkem is not just changing healthcare in Bahrain it’s setting a new global standard for what healthcare can and should be. In less than a year, Alkem has shown what’s possible when visionary leadership meets healthcare.

BUILDING AN ENTREPRENEURIAL EMPIRE

Renowned businesswoman Anita Menon’s transition from corporate life to entrepreneurship is fascinating. Today, she is the founder and managing director of four successful ventures in Bahrain: The Butterfly Effect Co., a digital marketing agency; Gatsby Beauty Lounge, a luxury ladies salon; SriSoukya Ayurvedic Centre, an alternative medicine clinic; and MH Consultants, a consulting firm. Woman This Month shares her story.

Anita’s path to entrepreneurship was anything but conventional. “I was born and raised in India and studied to be a mechanical engineer. Afterward, I completed my Master’s in supply chain management,” she explains.

It wasn’t long before she realised that her passion transcended the corporate world. “After a consulting stint of almost a decade, I quit the corporate life to become an entrepreneur. It’s been an incredible journey trying to build these diverse businesses in Bahrain.”

Anita’s first venture was The Butterfly Effect Co., a digital marketing agency she founded in 2014. At that time, social media marketing was still in its infancy, with most businesses focusing on traditional advertising. Over time, The Butterfly Effect grew beyond its digital marketing roots to become a full-suite marketing agency, expanding its footprint beyond borders.

By 2017, she took a step into the beauty industry, opening Gatsby Beauty Lounge.

“It felt like a challenge to be a part of a trade that I was completely unfamiliar with,” she admits. Despite the steep learning curve, her experience running a successful business helped her navigate the complexities of managing a luxury salon.

“Like someone wise once said – no success can teach you what failures can.”

This laid the foundation for her next venture: SriSoukya Ayurvedic Centre, launched in 2021. The clinic aims to introduce the 5,000-year-old practice of Ayurveda to Bahrain’s health and wellness sector.

“There weren’t many alternative medicine brands in the market, and it made sense to open a sophisticated, modern clinic that offered traditional Indian medicine to people in Bahrain,” she explains.

Anita believes that SriSoukya has not only added to Bahrain’s wellness offerings but has also filled a gap in preventive healthcare.

“We have made it a mandate to educate and build awareness around Ayurveda, which has proven benefits,” she says.

Having lived in Bahrain since 2010, she now calls the island home. “My professional experience has been encouraging, and I always say that if it wasn’t for Bahrain, I would have never become an entrepreneur,” she reveals. “The Kingdom’s ecosystem is uniquely supportive and robust. Whether it’s Tamkeen’s salary support for locals or the efficiency of the Ministries, there’s a lot an entrepreneur can leverage. That sense of support became particularly clear during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Like any entrepreneur, Anita has faced her fair share of challenges, but she views them

as opportunities for growth. Her resilience and ability to pivot have played a significant role in her success.

Her advice to aspiring female entrepreneurs is simple yet profound: “Go for it.” Bahrain, she believes, is an ideal market for testing new ideas. “However, there are two fundamental points to remember – first, do a feasibility study before embarking on the business, and second, find a gap or need in the market that you can fulfil.”

For Anita, entrepreneurship is not just about financial success. It’s about creating value, solving problems and making a difference in the community.

“There are so many successful women founders in Bahrain and it is an ever-growing tribe,” she concludes. “I can’t wait to see how female entrepreneurship continues to grow on this beautiful island!”

Smile Initiative

‘Smile’ initiative, a Bahrain Future Society for Youth initiative that provides psychosocial support to children with cancer and their parents in the Kingdom, held the launch of the eleventh edition of the awareness campaign ‘Kids R Golden’, which aims to spread awareness of childhood cancer. During the ceremony, the initiative celebrated the graduation of 47 children who have recovered from childhood cancer.

Life Changing Dentistry

Saar Dental Specialists Centre has been setting the standard for oral healthcare excellence since its establishment in 2010. Kristian Harrison sat down with its Founder and Managing Director, Dr. Zahra Majeed, to find out how humble beginnings led to one of the Kingdom’s most successful health stories.

Since childhood, Ms. Majeed has had a longstanding passion for the medical field, science and art. As a youngster, she recalls her brother, a medical student at the time, and her parents’ suggestion of pursuing dentistry as major influences. “Dentistry allowed me to combine science with creativity. It’s a profession where I can work with my hands and help people, which is incredibly fulfilling,” she explains.

Saar Dental, under Dr. Majeed’s leadership, has distinguished itself with a unique approach to patient care. Her initial vision was to create a dental centre that felt more like a spa, offering patients a relaxed atmosphere where their anxieties could be alleviated. This philosophy has paid off, as Saar Dental was awarded the prestigious Dental Spa of the Year. “We wanted to create a space where patients didn’t feel nervous or anxious about their treatments. Winning the award was a testament to our commitment to that vision,” she says.

According to Dr. Majeed, the centre’s ethos revolves around listening carefully to patients and offering personalised solutions. “What sets us apart from other clinics is that we tailor our services to meet our patients’ expectations,” she shares. The clinic offers a range of services, from routine check-ups and cleaning to orthodontics and cosmetic procedures like Invisalign.

Interestingly, Dr. Majeed highlights that many of the orthodontic issues she encounters, especially in children, are genetic, often manifesting as jaw discrepancies or crowded teeth. These issues are prevalent in the region, along with a high demand for dental restorations including bonded restorations.

Dr. Majeed is passionate about mentorship and education, particularly for young dentists. With over three decades of experience, she feels it’s important to pass on her knowledge to the next generation. She has plans to collaborate with schools to provide dental health education, and hopes to inspire more young people to enter the field.

When it comes to dental care at home, she swears by the basics. “Always use a soft brush and warm salt water for rinsing. It’s the simplest, most cost-effective remedy for good gum health, and it works wonders,” she advises. “Good gum health is the foundation of all dental treatments.”

Finally, Dr. Majeed stresses the importance of regular check-ups to avoid costly and complex dental procedures down the line. “People who are afraid of seeking dental care often delay

their visits, but regular check-ups help us catch dental issues early. It’s much easier and less expensive to treat problems before they become severe,” she concludes.

One memorable patient story that stands out for Dr. Majeed is that of a single mother who had lost her husband and was struggling financially. Her teeth were in poor condition, and she hadn’t smiled in years due to her anxiety about her appearance. Dr. Majeed and her team offered the woman discounted care, transforming her smile through bonded restorations. “The day we finished her treatment, she looked in the mirror, started crying, and hugged me. She said it was the first time she had smiled in years,” Dr. Majeed recalls. “Moments like these are what drives me; it’s not about the money – it’s about making an impact on people’s lives.”

THE PATH TO WELLNESS:

ACUPUNCTURE

Dr. Qian Yi Zi, a seasoned acupuncturist from China, has spent three decades perfecting the art of traditional Chinese medicine. With 30 years of clinical experience and a decade in Bahrain, her passion for holistic healing offers an alternative approach to treating a variety of ailments through acupuncture.

Dr. Qian’s journey with acupuncture began in China, where the practice has been an integral part of healthcare for over 5,000 years. Now, in Bahrain, she brings this ancient healing art to a wider audience at the Zhongdekang Chinese Medicine Clinic, established in May 2024 within the Salmaniya Gulf Medical Complex.

The Zhongdekang Clinic focuses on treating an array of conditions through acupuncture, ranging from physical pain to chronic diseases. “Acupuncture has a wide range of treatments, mainly in three categories: treating body pain, managing chronic diseases and addressing gynaecological and men’s health issues,” Dr. Qian explains. She highlights that acupuncture can effectively alleviate pain in areas such as the neck, shoulders, waist and legs, while also helping those suffering from insomnia, anxiety, or the aftereffects of stroke. Additionally, Dr. Qian notes the benefits of acupuncture for gynaecological conditions such as dysmenorrhea and uterine fibroids, showing the practice’s versatility in addressing a broad spectrum of health concerns.

The clinic is a well-rounded facility with a dedicated team that ensures patients

receive the best care. From receptionists and IT professionals to nurses and practicing acupuncturists, the clinic operates with a high level of professionalism.

One of the most compelling aspects of acupuncture is its dual role in both preventing and treating diseases. “Acupuncture is easy to operate and has no adverse reactions. It can prevent diseases as well as treat them,” Dr. Qian emphasises. “For those sceptical about trying acupuncture, this non-invasive therapy offers an opportunity for patients to explore a natural healing process without the risk of side effects.”

The clinic’s most popular services include acupuncture for bone alignment and postpartum recovery, especially among women. Postpartum recovery is one of Dr. Qian’s special areas of expertise, offering comprehensive packages to help new mothers regain strength and balance. “We focus on preventing postpartum depression, regulating the uterus and restoring pelvic floor function,” she explains.

When asked about the practice of Hijamah, or bloodletting and cupping, Dr. Qian provides a note of caution. “Bloodletting and cupping are only suitable for people with heat syndrome and solid syndrome. They are

not recommended for individuals with weak constitutions or for young children.”

Treatment plans at Zhongdekang are highly personalised, with Dr. Qian considering various factors such as age and overall health. “Young people are strong and have fast blood circulation, so they can recover after just one to five treatments,” she says. However, she notes that older patients or those with congenital diseases may require longer treatment durations due to their slower recovery rates.

“Throughout my career, I have witnessed many miraculous recoveries, where patients have found relief from conditions that conventional medicine struggled to address,” she reflects. “The magic is beyond our imagination; acupuncture has no side effects and is a safe, natural alternative for healing.”

For those interested in exploring acupuncture and Chinese medicine, Dr. Qian encourages potential patients to visit the Zhongdekang Clinic. “Please visit us and start your health journey!” she concludes.

The Path to Inner Peace

From the corporate world to the yoga mat, Rosemarie Blight’s inspiring journey of self-discovery has led her to embrace yoga as a lifelong practice. She tells Edwin D’Souza about her ever-growing passion for wellness and spiritual growth, and shares the profound mental and physical benefits of yoga, especially for women over 40, encouraging them to age with grace and mindfulness.

For Rosemarie Blight, life is a mission to be lived with purpose and gratitude. “Life can be great! So, live it fully with a grateful heart,” she says.

A certified yoga teacher and life coach, Rosemarie believes that everyone and everything in the universe is connected, and that each day is a gift to be appreciated. Her journey, which began in the Philippines and has led her through various professional and spiritual paths, is a testament to her drive for personal growth and authentic living.

Rosemarie’s professional background is rooted in commerce, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. She is also certified in life coaching from New York City and yoga teaching, a passion that she has pursued alongside her career. Currently, Rosemarie works as a personal assistant to a director at Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo B.S.C., one of the top companies in Bahrain. Despite her demanding professional life, yoga has been a constant source of balance and renewal for her.

Her first introduction to yoga was in the Philippines, but it wasn’t until she moved to Bahrain that she truly embraced the practice. “Yoga became my go-to when life got rough,” she explains.

After an on-and-off relationship with yoga for years, her spiritual journey deepened when she recently travelled to Rishikesh, India – the birthplace of yoga. This trip was transformative, marking a reset in how she viewed herself and the world. “It was lifechanging,” she recalls. Supported by her

husband – Steve Blight – and her community, Rosemarie pursued a rigorous training programme in Rishikesh, which not only strengthened her body but also unlocked new mental and spiritual powers within her. Rosemarie’s journey with yoga is intertwined with her commitment to overall wellness, a path she was introduced to by her husband, who sparked her interest in fitness when they met in 2005. Together, they have made health and fitness a central focus in their lives.

Over the years, Rosemarie has noticed profound improvements in both, her mental and physical well-being, through yoga. “I’m more focused, relaxed, and stress-free,” she says, adding that yoga has helped alleviate her joint pain and menopausal symptoms. “I lost unwanted fat and can feel the benefits in my organs. I can now distribute oxygen to different parts of my body through breathing techniques.”

While her yoga journey initially began as a personal practice, Rosemarie now feels called to share its benefits with others. Inspired by her guru’s words, she is eager to spread the “good news” of yoga and its limitless physical and mental benefits. She is particularly passionate about encouraging women over 40 to embrace yoga, believing that it can make life “less painful” and aging “more graceful”.

Looking ahead, Rosemarie is determined to continue her yoga practice and explore other spiritual disciplines. She finds joy in living simply and authentically, and though she remains involved in the corporate world, yoga will always be her “constant companion.” Grateful for the support of her family, friends and mentors, she is committed to living a life filled with purpose, connection and mindfulness.

Beyond Boundaries

Sara Sami is an avid traveller, photographer and trip organiser who has garnered a following by documenting her adventures. From exploring off-grid locations in the GCC to witnessing the Northern Lights, her love for adventure and the joy of discovering untamed experiences across the region and the world know no boundaries. Edwin D’Souza tells her story.

Sara, who goes by @agirlfrombahrain on Instagram, is an inspirational Bahraini who has spent the past 38 years on the island. “As a kid, all I wanted to do was create art,” Sara shares, explaining how design opened up a world of creativity for her.

At the University College of Bahrain (UCB), she further cultivated her creative talents and her passion for art soon blossomed into multiple roles –photographer, graphic designer, artist, traveller and trip organiser. These interests, though seemingly distinct, were intricately connected through her love for exploration and creativity.

Her passion for travelling began during her college art trips, where she experienced the joy of discovering new cities and cultures. This wanderlust has remained a constant in her life, fueled by the freedom she feels while on the road, exploring places beyond Bahrain.

In recent years, Sara has embraced road trips and camping, a discovery she made during the COVID-19 lockdown when international travel was restricted. “I found

myself exploring the deserts of Saudi Arabia, and that’s where I fell in love with camping and the sense of calm the desert brings,” she shares. What began as a necessity during the pandemic turned into a newfound love for the open road, and she now seeks the thrill of journeys without fixed destinations.

When it comes to planning trips, Sara strikes a balance between spontaneity and careful research. “Google Maps is my best friend,” she laughs, explaining how she uses it to find off-grid locations, such as low-light areas ideal for stargazing or abandoned villages that intrigue her.

While her passion for global travel is evident, Sara has a particular fascination with the GCC. The diverse landscapes, she says, are what drive her interest. From the cool mountains of Abha in Saudi Arabia to the lush, rainy vistas of Salalah in Oman, Sara is constantly amazed by the variety the region has to offer. “Who knew I’d be wearing a jacket in the middle of August in the Gulf?” she exclaims, recalling a recent trip to Salalah.

As a trip organiser, Sara has ventured to around 15 countries, each with its own unique experiences. One of the most memorable was witnessing the Northern Lights in Finland. After several nights of waiting with no success, she had given up hope, only to be surprised by the mesmerising lights dancing across the sky on her last night. “It was truly a magical experience,” she says.

For those who have already explored parts of the GCC, Sara promises fresh and raw adventures. She organises untamed camping experiences for those willing to forgo modern

comforts and embrace the challenges of sleeping in tents. For anyone seeking a unique adventure, Sara highly recommends Abha, Saudi Arabia. “It’s a 14-hour drive, but it will reveal a side of Saudi Arabia you never imagined.”

As for Bahrain, she recently designed an outdoors map of Bahrain for local enthusiasts and plans to organise more trips around the island.

Looking ahead, Sara continues to seek out off-grid locations for her next adventures, balancing adrenaline-fuelled treks with peaceful hikes. Her dream trip? Organising a group expedition to Iceland, where she once journeyed solo. “It’s a landscape photographer’s paradise, and the chance to see the Northern Lights again would be amazing.”

Sara’s adventures serve as inspiration for women to explore solo travel and for everyone to delve into the world of travel that may lack tangible luxuries but offer experiences of a lifetime and images that are etched into your mind forever for a life well lived. As she continues to push her limits and explore new worlds, she hopes to inspire others to do the same.

OVERCOMING THE ILLUSION OF LAZINESS

Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst, Fifi Kiwan, helps us understand the cognitive challenges behind procrastination.

It’s a common scenario – you have a looming deadline, an important task that needs to get done, but you find yourself procrastinating, feeling unmotivated and unable to get started. The natural assumption is often that you’re simply being lazy or undisciplined. However, the reality is frequently more complex. Many cognitive challenges can manifest as procrastination or laziness, masking the underlying issues.

Here are some things to consider:

Executive Dysfunction

One key factor that can contribute to procrastination is executive dysfunction. This refers to difficulties with the cognitive processes that help us plan, organise, focus and complete tasks. Those with executive dysfunction may struggle to initiate tasks, keep track of steps or see projects through to completion. Rather than a lack of willpower, this can be the result of the brain’s difficulty managing the demands of complex activities.

Attention Deficits

Closely related is the challenge of attention deficits. Whether it’s ADHD or simply difficulty maintaining focus, a wandering mind can make it incredibly hard to start and stick with tasks. That feeling of being easily distracted or pulled in multiple directions is a common precursor to procrastination.

Memory Issues

Our ability to remember key details, steps and deadlines also plays a big role. Individuals with memory challenges, whether due to a medical condition, aging or simply an overloaded mind, can find it extremely difficult to keep track of all the moving parts required to complete important tasks on time.

Anxiety and Perfectionism

Ironically, the drive for perfection can also contribute to procrastination. The fear of not measuring up or doing something wrong can lead to avoidance behaviour. Similarly, anxiety about the consequences of failing or underperforming can be paralysing, causing people to put off critical work.

Emotional Regulation Difficulties

Emotions, moods and levels of motivation can dramatically impact our ability to be productive. Those who struggle to manage their emotions or maintain consistent focus and drive may find themselves frequently succumbing to procrastination.

How to Address the Underlying Issues

The first step is to recognise that procrastination is often a symptom, not the root problem. Rather than berating yourself for laziness, it’s important to reflect on the cognitive and emotional factors that may be at play.

Seeking support from a mental health professional, occupational therapist or coach can help uncover the specific challenges you’re facing and develop strategies to overcome them. This may involve techniques like:

● Breaking down tasks into more manageable steps

● Implementing systems and routines to improve focus and memory

● Practicing mindfulness and emotional regulation exercises

● Accommodating needs like natural preferences for certain types of environments or schedules

The key is to approach procrastination with self-compassion and a willingness to understand the underlying reasons. With the right support and coping mechanisms, those cognitive challenges that once sabotaged productivity can be transformed into strengths.

3 SKILLS FOR A SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL YEAR!

Parenting columnist Ouiam El Hassani shares her

thoughts on the three skills your child needs to thrive and have a successful school year.

During the back-to-school season, many of us are busy scheduling kids’ haircuts, buying sized-up trainers, and procuring mechanical pencils and spiral notebooks. But the true key to setting kids up for success in school isn’t found at a stationery store. Children will thrive in school (and in life) if they carry with them the ability to be courageous, determined and reflective. As parents, our job is to nurture our children’s self-awareness and practice of a number of skill sets so a courageous, determined and reflective disposition becomes part of their identity at school and beyond.

For a

better understanding

of the three skills needed for a successful school year:

1.

Being Courageous

When we think about being courageous, images of strength and bravery may come to mind. But being a courageous learner is not so much about traditional bravery. For success in school, children must embrace challenges and stretch themselves to try new things. Science shows that we learn best when we are in our zone of proximal development, operating at the edge of our abilities. Courage is the fuel that propels us beyond our comfort zones, enabling us to engage with difficult content, explore unconventional ideas and grow.

2. Being Determined

The traditional meaning of being determined by persevering until you reach your goal works for learning. When we are in our zone of proximal development, chances are, we’re going to make mistakes. Being a determined learner means viewing those setbacks as opportunities to learn. Because mistakes show us exactly where we can improve, they can be powerful learning tools that help move us toward our goals… often even faster than if we’d gotten things right the first time. Understanding that mastery requires effort can fuel our determination and enable us to lean into learning.

3. Being Reflective

Kids’ tendency in school is often to rush to completion and quickly move on to the next thing. Being a reflective learner means taking time to think about our educational experiences: a project, a performance, an athletic event and consider what did and didn’t go well in order to better prepare for the next opportunity. Stopping to reflect helps us get to know ourselves as learners, cement new skills and find something meaningful to try next. As kids get older, learning to seek and apply feedback can amplify their ability to improve themselves and their work.

Mastering the Mindset

Supporting kids to be courageous, determined and reflective in these ways requires a growth mindset, understanding that skills and intelligence are developed and not inherited/set — that people are generally good at something because they have cultivated their abilities over time and those who are not just haven’t dedicated the time. Recognising that we are in control of our abilities enables us to focus on the process of learning and growing — encouraging us to stretch ourselves to try new things, persevere until we reach our goals and think about what we can take from each experience.

Here are some things you can do to make sure your children are poised to practice and grow these three superpowers:

1. Name and Recognise

While the abilities to be courageous, determined and reflective live within every kid (and each one of us), developing the mindset we desire requires self-awareness and practice. Talk to your children about these three words, help them understand their meaning (for example, what being determined does and doesn’t look like in a particular situation), and how and when to practice each. Then, regularly recognise them for their practice, describing the behaviour. For example, “I know it took a lot of time and effort to complete your maths homework, great job being determined!”

As kids become familiar with these mindset elements and how to use them, they’ll start to recognise and articulate the practices they see in themselves and others.

3. Embrace The Power of ‘Yet’

2. Lead By Example

It’s incredibly powerful for kids to see their parents trying new things — especially if they’re not awesome at them from the start. For example, if you’ve always wanted to learn to draw, get a sketchbook and draw for 10 minutes a day. Let your kids see the consistent effort you’re putting in and your artwork. Or sign up to run a 5K, 10K or a marathon (whatever’s just outside your comfort zone).

Using the words ‘not yet’ as a powerful way to reframe kids’ learning efforts: It’s not that they can’t do something, they just can’t do it yet. Remind your child that almost no one is great at something the first time they try it. So if they don’t immediately excel at a new thing, the good news is that they’ll be a little better at it the next time… and even better the time after that.

This season, as you check off all the items on the school supplies list, remember that the most critical tools your kids need don’t fit in a backpack. Set your intention to teach your children what it means to be courageous, determined and reflective. Help them grow these mental superpowers and learn how to wield them for a successful school yea and a fulfilling lifetime of learning.

What’s For Dinner: A One-Pot Dish

If you’re looking for an easy-to-make yet sumptuous home cooked meal, we’ve got just the thing for you. This recipe for Creamy Chicken Thighs with Mushrooms and Spinach is just the culinary comfort you need on a weeknight.

Succulent chicken thighs are stewed in a luxurious cream sauce with earthy mushrooms and fresh spinach, creating the perfect comfort food. This easy one-pot meal is ideal for a cosy family dinner or a special gathering.

Ingredients

- 8 boneless, skinless chicken thighs

- 2 tbsps olive oil

- 1 medium onion, finely chopped

- 4 garlic cloves, minced

- 250gms mushrooms, sliced (button, cremini, or mixed mushrooms)

- 3 cups fresh spinach leaves

- 1 cup heavy cream

- 1 ½ cup chicken broth (low sodium)

Preparation:

- 1 tsp Dijon mustard

- 1 tsp dried thyme (or 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves)

- 1 tsp paprika

- 1 tbsp unsalted butter

- Salt and pepper, to taste

- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)

1. Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels and season them generously with salt, pepper and paprika on both sides.

2. In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken thighs, skin-side down (if skin-on), and cook for five to seven minutes or until the skin is golden and crisp. Flip and sear the other side for another three to four minutes. The chicken doesn’t need to be fully cooked at this point. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.

3. In the same pan, lower the heat to medium and add the butter. Once melted, add the chopped onions and sauté until softened.

4. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms release their moisture and turn golden. Then add the minced garlic and cook for two minutes until fragrant.

5. Pour in half the chicken broth to deglaze the pan,

scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Let the broth simmer until reduced by half.

6. Stir in the remaining chicken broth, heavy cream, Dijon mustard and thyme. Bring the mixture to a simmer and season to taste if needed.

7. Return the seared chicken thighs to the pan, immersing them in the sauce. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan and let the chicken cook for about 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.

8. Once done, add the spinach leaves to the pan, stirring it into the sauce until wilted and fully incorporated. Garnish the dish with freshly chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese for extra richness.

9. Serve hot with rice, mashed potatoes, pasta or crusty bread to soak up the creamy sauce.

For a richer sauce, you can add a tablespoon of grated Parmesan to the sauce before adding the chicken back to the pan. If you prefer a thicker sauce, reduce the amount of chicken broth by a quarter cup or let the sauce simmer uncovered for a few more minutes before adding the chicken back in. Enjoy!

Would you rather travel to the mountains or the beach for a vacation?

I’d pick the beach; there’s something so calming about the sound of waves and the warmth of the sun. It’s the perfect setting for recharging and pausing from the fast pace of life.

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement to date?

My greatest achievement is being a mother while successfully balancing my personal and work life. Celebrating the success of my journey and where I am today is a testament to resilience and dedication, and it’s something I’m incredibly proud of.

Would you rather binge-watch a TV show or read a good book on a lazy Friday?

Friday is usually a family gathering day but, when I have time, I’m definitely more of a book person – nothing beats getting lost in a great story, especially on a quiet, relaxing day.

Are you more of an early bird or a night owl?

Definitely an early bird! I love the quiet moments of the morning when the world feels still, and I can gather my thoughts before the day unfolds.

What’s a hobby you love doing but don’t get enough time for?

I love discovering new places. Exploring different cultures and experiencing new environments is something I’m passionate about.

InHerShoes

This month, we met with Al Zain Jewellery Marketing – Customer Experience Manager, Fatima Darwish –a woman who takes pride in balancing her personal and professional life. Let’s take a walk in her shoes!

What’s your go-to comfort food?

I will always choose my mother’s food. There’s something special about her cooked meals made with love that brings me the greatest comfort.

What’s a quirky habit you have that most people don’t know about?

I always carry two bags – one small and one big. The big one stays in the car, and you can find just about anything you need in there. It’s like my own little emergency kit on the go!

Live in a big city or a small town?

I’d choose a big city. The energy, diversity and opportunities for growth always inspire me, though I do appreciate small, quiet escapes from time to time.
