EDITOR’S NOTE
What an incredible year it’s been for the Woman This Month team! Looking back at all that has culminated throughout 2024 is a feeling that can’t quite be put into words. 2024 is not only the year that Woman This Month has made a spectacular comeback, but the year that we have had the privilege of launching the Woman of the Year Awards.
In the months that have passed, the WTM team has had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing hundreds of incredible women across several sectors – each an inspiration in her own right. Women, often unknowingly, have a profound impact on all those around them. It starts with our mothers who shower us with unconditional love, constant guidance and encouragement to help us be the very best version of ourselves.
Women take on several roles through our lives, be it a sister, wife, teacher, boss, community leader or a willing listener. In all these roles, there are some things that remain constant – they are able leaders and approach each role with determination and alacrity. I can say with confidence that the Woman of the Year Awards is a crucial initiative to recognise all that women have achieved, what they continue to do and their vision for the future. In this edition, you will discover the 19 recipients of the Woman of the Year Awards 2024 whose stories we will have the pleasure of telling throughout 2025. Speaking of incredible women, there are several inspirational interviews in this exciting December edition. We spoke to the visionary Tamkeen CE, HE Maha Mofeez, about its initiatives to ensure the private sector is the backbone of Bahrain’s economy. You may also read about the trailblazing, award-winning journalist and broadcaster, Baria Alamuddin, who was the chief guest at this year’s awards.
You’ll also read about an inspiring consultant therapist, Dr. Siddiqa Hussain Al Meer, who has devoted her career to improving the emotional and psychological well-being of young people and their families in Bahrain. Sharing her incredible entrepreneurial legacy is Moon Top Shop/Flormar Managing Director, Majeda Akhtarzadeh – a renowned businesswoman in Bahrain. Creativity presents itself in all forms with Lumineoux Interiors – Design Director and Founder, Manal Bukamal, Pom Pom Boutique’s owner, Fatema Habib, ESMOD CEO, Tamara Hostal and Bahar Jewellers Founder, Harshad S. Jani.
There are plenty of exciting beauty features, lifestyle announcements, fashion trends and opinions to be discovered to. Be sure to follow our official Instagram account @womanthismonth and visit womanthismonth.com for more exciting content.
Finally, I’d like to recognise the efforts of the entire Red House Marketing team for their applaudable efforts throughout this year. It’s been a wonderful journey, and I’m positive that it can only ever get better. Here’s to always recognising the irreplaceable role that women have on our lives, and always sharing their story.
See you in 2025!

WHITE MAN’S WIFE IS HERE!
Dear readers, the event marking the launch of my latest book, White Man’s Wife, was a great success! The event was held on November 11 at Lanterns Lounge & Restaurant and was graced by the Ambassador of France to Bahrain, HE Eric Giraud-Telme, HE’s wife, Mrs Amelie GiraudTelme, UNIDO Director, Dr. Hashim Hussein, Capital Governorate Director of Information & Follow-up, Yusuf Lori, representatives from the Ethiopian consulate, the book’s editor Kristian Harrison and the ‘White Man’ himself, my husband Pierric Dubois. Grab your Kindle copy on Amazon now. In the meantime, enjoy this excerpt: the foreword by publisher George F. Middleton.
It is an honour to introduce White Man’s Wife, a compelling and deeply personal work by Eskedar Girmay Dubois, an accomplished Ethiopian writer, film producer and actress. In this book, Eskedar courageously addresses the complex stereotypes and societal judgments faced by Ethiopian women married to foreigners, while also exploring broader issues of gender and national identity.
all women, regardless of their marital status or the nationality of their partners, deserve to be seen, heard and respected for who they are and what they contribute.
Eskedar’s narrative sheds light on the unique discrimination these women face. Often labeled as Yeferenji Mist – a term loaded with negative connotations – they are viewed through a lens of dependency on their foreign husbands rather than being acknowledged for their own strength and achievements. Society frequently dismisses their successes, attributing them to their marriages rather than recognising their personal efforts and resilience.
A central theme in White Man’s Wife is the struggle for acceptance within their own communities. These women are often marginalised, with their choices questioned and their love and partnerships viewed with scepticism. Eskedar illustrates the painful reality of returning home, where these women, despite maintaining a strong connection to their Ethiopian roots, are sometimes treated as outsiders.
Through her vivid storytelling and personal reflections, Eskedar calls for empathy and understanding. She challenges readers to reconsider harmful stereotypes and to recognise the diverse identities of Ethiopian women. Her book is a powerful reminder that
White Man’s Wife is not just a memoir; it is a courageous exploration of identity, love and the quest for dignity in the face of adversity. Eskedar has given a voice to those who have been marginalised, creating a work that is both timely and timeless. This book invites us to engage in a necessary conversation about how we view and treat one another, both within and across cultural boundaries.
I have known Esky, her European husband and incredible son and daughter for the past 25 years and I have been amazed at her persistence, perseverance and passion in
everything she has been involved in during this period.
Despite her privileged position, she dedicated herself to philanthropy and supporting those less fortunate; on many occasions being called to police stations at odd hours of the day or night in order to intercede on behalf of Ethiopian nationals who had been abused or mistreated by their employers.
As you read this remarkable book, I hope you will be moved by Eskedar’s honesty, inspired by her resilience and challenged to think differently about the world around you. White Man’s Wife is not just a story about Ethiopian women; it is a story about all of us, about the choices we make, the judgments we cast and the humanity we share.

DRIVING ECONOMIC PROSPERITY
Since its establishment in 2006, Tamkeen has stood as the symbol of economic empowerment in Bahrain, contributing to the Kingdom’s growth by upskilling local talent and supporting businesses. Led by its visionary CE, Her Excellency Ms. Maha Mofeez, Tamkeen continues to drive initiatives that ensure the private sector thrives as the backbone of Bahrain’s economy, adapting to global and local economic shifts with a forwardthinking approach. She shares her thoughts with Woman This Month.
“Our mission has always been to empower Bahraini talent and enable the private sector to be the key economic driver in the Kingdom,” says Ms. Mofeez. Tamkeen’s programmes are designed to help individuals and enterprises reach their highest potential. This involves a meticulous process of tailoring initiatives based on market feedback, industry insights and robust data analytics to remain relevant in an everchanging world.
Adapting to a Digital Future
In a global economy where technology is transforming industries at an unprecedented pace, Tamkeen has made tech sector development a top priority. “Technology is transforming economies worldwide,” Ms. Mofeez asserts. “We have focused on enabling enterprises to adopt innovative technologies and digitally transform, while also reskilling and upskilling Bahrainis in high-demand tech specialisations.”
Tamkeen’s initiatives in this domain include supporting tech-focused training programmes and fostering a pool of professionals capable of leading digital transformation. This dual approach not only enhances the competitiveness of Bahraini businesses but also ensures that the Kingdom has a robust talent pipeline equipped for the demands of the future.
Complementing this strategy is Skills Bahrain, an initiative established to bridge the skills gap in the labour market. “Skills Bahrain works closely with employers, education providers and government stakeholders to ensure our workforce transitions seamlessly from education to employment,” says Ms. Mofeez. To date, nine sector-specific skills reports have been published, offering critical insights into the evolving needs of Bahrain’s economy.
Data-Driven Decision Making
Tamkeen’s commitment to impactful and measurable outcomes is evident in its reliance on data. “Our data analytics department continuously measures the outcomes of our support, enhancing our ability to track market impact and make informed decisions,” Ms. Mofeez explains. This approach ensures that resources are utilised efficiently and that the organisation remains agile in responding to the needs of Bahrain’s economy.
Since its inception, Tamkeen has supported more than 188,000 individuals and 82,000 enterprises, investing BD2.4 billion to bolster the Kingdom’s economic resilience. This extensive reach underlines Tamkeen’s integral role in shaping Bahrain’s economic landscape, particularly through empowering women and Bahrain’s workforce.
Empowering Bahraini Women
Aligned with Bahrain’s vision under the leadership of HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, the Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), empowering Bahraini women has been a cornerstone of Tamkeen’s strategy. The Labour Fund has consistently championed initiatives aimed at integrating women into the labour market, enhancing their skills and supporting their entrepreneurial ambitions.
“Empowering Bahraini women has always been a priority for us,” Ms. Mofeez states. Since 2006, Tamkeen has trained over 92,600 women, supported more than 15,800 female-led enterprises, and enabled the establishment of 7,100
startups. These achievements reflect Tamkeen’s dedication to fostering gender inclusivity in the workforce.
One of Tamkeen’s standout initiatives is the Riyadat Programme, developed in partnership with the Bahrain Development Bank. This programme addresses one of the most significant challenges faced by female entrepreneurs: access to funding.
“The initiative provides subsidised loans to help women launch and grow their businesses,” says Ms. Mofeez. This has been instrumental in increasing the number of women-led enterprises in Bahrain, paving the way for their active participation in the economy.
Ms. Mofeez celebrates the success of Bahraini women, noting their contributions to the Kingdom’s progress. “Today, Bahraini women are board members, CEOs, business owners and executive leaders. Their remarkable capabilities are integral to national economic development,” she says proudly.
A Vision for Sustainable Growth
Tamkeen’s efforts extend beyond immediate economic benefits to ensuring long-term sustainability for Bahrain’s workforce and businesses. Collaborations with key public and private stakeholders enable the organisation to continuously evolve its programmes, ensuring alignment with Bahrain’s economic goals.
From supporting digital transformation to empowering women, Tamkeen has cemented its role as a key enabler of economic progress in Bahrain. “Our journey is ongoing, and we remain committed to creating opportunities that drive sustainable growth and prosperity for all,” Ms. Mofeez affirms.
A PIONEER OF WOMEN’S ADVOCACY
Baria Alamuddin is trailblazing, awardwinning journalist and broadcaster who has made an indelible mark on Middle Eastern and global media. Over her illustrious career, she has interviewed influential political and cultural leaders, championed women’s rights and advocated for social justice. Known for her sharp insights and fearless reporting, she has become a role model for women in journalism in a region where such achievements were once rare. Ahead of her appearance as Chief Guest at the Woman of the Year Awards 2024, Ms. Alamuddin sat down with Kristian Harrison to reflect on her journey, the challenges she overcame, and her hopes for the future of journalism and gender equality.
Whatinspired you to pursue a career in journalism?
My journey into journalism was deeply influenced by my upbringing and my mother’s values. She instilled in me ideals of freedom, justice and education from a young age. I initially considered a career in law, thinking it would be my path to contribute to justice, but the opportunities for women in Lebanon at that time were limited. Journalism offered an alternative way to advocate for truth and social change.
I decided to study mass communication and political science, which gave me a strong foundation in understanding the world around me. Early in my career, I focused on women’s issues, but as I gained experience, I discovered my passion for politics and interviews. My curiosity and love for storytelling made journalism feel less like a job and more like a calling.
As a Middle Eastern woman in journalism, what challenges did you face in the early part of your career?
When I began, journalism was a maledominated field, as were many academic fields which were deemed unsuitable for
You’ve interviewed some of the world’s most influential leaders. How have these interviews impacted you?
Media plays a crucial role in challenging societal norms and amplifying the voices of the marginalised.
women There were societal expectations that I needed to navigate, even from within my own family, but I was determined to prove that women could excel in any field.
I also faced professional challenges and deadlines, such as working in high-pressure environments, taking late-night assignments and confronting tough political issues. However, as I gained experience, I began earning the respect of my colleagues, many of whom became my mentors.
Lebanon, despite its challenges, has always been a hub for journalism in the Arab world. I was fortunate to study at the American University of Beirut, where I learned from some of the best minds in the field.
Interviewing global leaders and activists has been an incredibly enriching experience, both personally and professionally. Some leaders left me with a bad impression, but others severely impacted me. One of the most memorable interviews I conducted was with Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India, shortly before her assassination. Her humility and dedication to her country left a lasting impression on me and she taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of leadership and service. I’ve also interviewed other inspiring people in Bahrain and the Middle East including HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, his father Shaikh Isa, King Hussein of Jordan, and the famous poet Ghazi Al Gosaibi.
How do you view the progress of women’s rights in the Middle East compared to 30 years ago?
There has been undeniable progress, but it varies significantly by country. Gulf nations like Saudi Arabia and the UAE have made strides in areas like education, workforce participation and leadership. Women in these
nations have become astronauts, entrepreneurs and political leaders transforming their societies in remarkable ways.
However, other regions, like Afghanistan and Iran, have seen setbacks, with regimes actively suppressing women’s voices. It’s heart-breaking to witness these regressions, especially when women continue to fight courageously for their rights.
My own mother, who was a passionate advocate for girls’ education, remains my inspiration. Her efforts to ensure girls had access to schooling, even in impoverished areas of Lebanon, taught me the importance of education in empowering women. Today, I see a new generation of Arab women breaking barriers, but the road ahead remains long.
How did your mother’s advocacy for female education shape your views on women’s empowerment?
My mother was a true pioneer. Although she passed away when I was young, her legacy has been a guiding force throughout my life. She worked tirelessly to promote girls’ education, even establishing schools in conflict-affected. Her belief that men and women are equal partners in society became central to my own advocacy.
Growing up, I watched her urge families to send their daughters to school, even when it was uncommon. Her determination inspired me to continue her work, advocating for women’s rights through my journalism and other efforts.
How do you see the role of media in shaping societal change, particularly in the context of gender equality?
Media plays a crucial role in challenging societal norms and amplifying the voices of the marginalised. While state-controlled media in parts of the Middle East can limit progress, independent platforms and digital media offer new opportunities for change.
Journalists have the power to expose injustices, tell true stories that inspire action, and advocate for equality. In the Arab world, we’ve seen women journalists cover conflict zones and societal issues with bravery and professionalism. However, the rise of misinformation is a growing challenge, threatening the integrity of journalism and hindering progress on critical issues like gender equality.
As a mother, how did you encourage your children to pursue their own paths?
I’ve always believed in letting my children follow their passions. I have four children –two daughters and two step-sons – and I encouraged each of them to leave a footprint that can bring change in the world and explore what truly made them happy. Amal
and Tala, for instance, have pursued careers in law, academia, entrepreneurship and design, and I’m incredibly proud of all my children’s accomplishments.
My emphasis has always been on values like hard work, integrity and compassion. These principles have guided my children in becoming the strong, independent individuals they are today.
What role do you hope your work will play in inspiring future generations?
I see journalism as a powerful tool for social change. My goal has always been to
use my platform to raise awareness about critical issues like women’s rights, diversity, education and justice.
I hope to continue sharing stories that inspire, mentoring aspiring journalists and writing books that reflect the lessons I’ve learned over the years. Ultimately, I want my work to encourage young people, especially women, to believe in themselves, fearlessly pursue their passions and contribute to building a more equitable world.

FINDING THE PERFECT HARMONY
Managing motherhood, entrepreneurship and selfcare may seem like an insurmountable task, but for Nasra Grimley, it’s a delicate yet rewarding act. As a mother to three boys, a wife and the driving force behind Alkem Health and Wellness Centre, she tells Kristian Harrison how she discovered that creating harmony – not chasing perfection – is the key to thriving in all areas of her life.
“I’ve stopped using the word ‘balance’ because it implies keeping everything equal, which is impossible,” she explains. “Instead, I focus on harmony, prioritising what matters most each day and what feels good in the moment. Some days work takes precedence, while others, my family or self-care comes first. This perspective allows me to be more present and fulfilled.”
Nasra’s strategies for navigating her busy life include clear priorities, time blocking and outsourcing. “I allocate dedicated time for family and work. When I’m with my kids, I’m fully present, and when I’m working, I focus entirely on my business,” she shares. She also emphasises the importance of self-care as a foundation for everything. “When I’m at my best, I can give more to my family and work. Simple practices like a quiet morning, exercise or unwinding help me recharge.”
For Nasra, family and business occasionally intersect, providing teaching moments for her boys. “I love involving my family in my work where I can. I share milestones and explain what I do in ways they can relate to. I hope it teaches them about resilience, adaptability and leading with kindness,” she says. “Success isn’t just about achievements; it’s about creating a fulfilling life aligned with your purpose.”
Building Alkem while being a handson mum wasn’t without its challenges. “There were times I felt stretched thin, but I’ve learned to let go of perfection and focus on being present,” she reflects. “Delegating responsibilities and setting boundaries were essential for maintaining structure and protecting family time.”
Alkem’s philosophy of holistic well-being also influences Nasra’s personal and family life. “We focus on addressing
root causes, not just symptoms, and I apply this to our home life. Whether it’s identifying the source of stress or meeting each other’s emotional needs, it’s about creating a foundation of health and connection.”
When it comes to recharging as a family, simplicity is key. “It’s about being present. We enjoy watching movies, cheering on the kids at football and sharing meals my husband prepares. These moments, though simple, are filled with love and connection,” she says.
Her advice to mothers pursuing dreams while raising a family? “Let go of perfection and give yourself grace. Focus on your values, ask for help and protect your time and energy. Taking care of yourself allows you to show up fully. Life isn’t perfect, but embracing the journey with intention makes it meaningful.”
MAKING YOUR HEALTH A PRIORITY
From an early age, Dr. Al Jassas knew that medicine was her calling. “I’ve always been fascinated by the human body and how medical science can enhance lives,” she says. “Women’s health became my focus because I’m driven to empower women to take charge of their well-being.” Her commitment to providing personalised, compassionate care makes her a strong advocate for women at all life stages.
Dr. Al Jassas was attracted to Alkem, which is an NHRAlicensed medical centre in City Centre Bahrain, when she realised that its philosophy closely aligned with her own. “What drew me to Alkem was the opportunity to address more than just physical symptoms. Here, I can connect with patients on a deeper level, considering their physical, emotional and mental health,” she explains. “It’s rewarding to work with a team that values a holistic approach, which is essential for truly patient-centred care.”
A significant part of her work involves IV therapy, a treatment growing in popularity for its rapid benefits. “IV therapy allows nutrients to be delivered directly into the bloodstream, promoting faster absorption and immediate effects. For women, this can mean boosted energy, enhanced immune support and improved skin and hair,” Dr. Al Jassas says. Treatments such as Vitamin IVs, NAD therapy and Glutathione IVs are some of the options at Alkem, addressing everything from skin brightness to antiaging benefits.
Skin health is another priority for Dr. Al Jassas, who frequently encounters common concerns like sun damage and hyperpigmentation. “In this region, many patients struggle with uneven skin tone due to environmental factors. I’ve found that IV therapies, especially those containing Glutathione, effectively brighten skin and reduce pigmentation. With a personalised treatment plan, patients can see a noticeable improvement,” she says.
Dr. Al Jassas encourages women in Bahrain to make their health a priority. “At Alkem, we offer a variety of services designed to support you, from bespoke IV therapies and fatburning injections to aesthetic treatments. We also provide naturopathic medicine, chiropractic care and nutritional advice,” she shares.
For those embarking on their wellness journey, Dr. Al Jassas assures: “Whether you’re looking to manage stress, enhance your health, or simply maintain well-being, I’m here to guide you. At Alkem, your health is our priority, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.”
Having transformed Bahrain’s medical scene with its innovative approach to integrating traditional and modern medicine, Alkem Health and Wellness Centre continues to grow with the appointment of general practitioner, Dr. Alaa Al Jassas. In this interview with Woman This Month, she shares her passion for elevating women’s health, particularly with skincare and IV therapy.
CURATING STYLE & ELEGANCE
Creating the cover of this issue of Woman This Month was a passionate journey that brought together some of Bahrain’s finest creative talents. From the initial concept to the final frame, every element of this shoot was designed to celebrate beauty, artistry and craftsmanship in its purest form.
The vision for the shoot was brought to life under the expert direction of Concept Director Esky Dubois, whose ability to weave storytelling into visuals made this cover stand out. Esky worked closely with Creative Coordinator Amina Syed, whose attention to detail ensured the smooth execution of every aspect. From coordinating the dazzling wardrobe and accessories to managing the team on set, Amina’s seamless organisation was the backbone of this project.
Behind the lens was renowned photographer Fareeba Ali, whose remarkable ability to capture both grace and power gave the cover its unique allure. Fareeba’s meticulous attention to lighting and composition ensured that each shot was a masterpiece. Complementing her artistry was stylist Hasham Baig of La Mode by Hasham, who curated a selection of pieces that reflected sophistication with a contemporary twist.
Taking centre stage was the stunning Zenit Degene, whose magnetic presence and effortless elegance brought the concept to life. Zenit is undoubtedly a model to watch out for, and her ability to channel confidence and grace into every shot is indicative of her rising star power.
Adding to the opulence of the cover was the exquisite jewellery from Bahar Jewellery, featuring hundreds of Bahrain’s coveted natural pearls. These pearls not only symbolise Bahrain’s rich maritime heritage but also add a timeless elegance to the overall look. This exquisite pearl set featured earrings, a necklace and a versatile twist of pearls which can grace one’s arm or waist. Large yet intricate details in gold, embellished with precious stones, further elevate this set so it may always turn heads. Paired with the unique outfit from Pom Pom Boutique, the ensemble struck the perfect balance between modernity and tradition.
The beauty element of the shoot was equally a standout. Hair was styled by the talented team at Amor Sui Salon, who created a polished and radiant look that enhanced Zenit’s natural features. Meanwhile, renowned cosmetics brand Flormar handled the makeup, using high-quality products to craft a look that was both bold and refined, ensuring Zenit shone under the spotlight.

Crafting Timeless Elegance
Bahar Jewellers has stamped its mark on Bahrain’s jewellery scene with its bespoke, handcrafted pieces that seamlessly blend cultural heritage with contemporary design. Founded by Harshad S. Jani, the brand’s dedication to quality, personalised service and artistry continues to captivate its clientele.
For over three decades, Bahar Jewellers has been synonymous with exquisite, custom-designed jewellery in Bahrain. Mr. Jani, who is also the Managing Director of the brand, began his journey in the pearl business. His inspiration for Bahar Jewellers arose while managing pearl imports and certifications for other jewellers.
“I started Bahar Jewellers in 2013 with gold,” he says. “My wife introduced the idea of incorporating pearls into our business, and she was instrumental in helping me take the leap to build something of our own. She brought a unique vision that transformed the brand.”
Bahar Jewellers specialises in handcrafted pieces that reflect Bahrain’s rich cultural history. “We take old designs, mainly from the 1940s and 1950s, and give them a modern touch,” Mr. Jani explains. This unique approach bridges tradition and contemporary aesthetics. “Jewellery in the past used yellow gold, but now we add a slight reddish tint and intricate designs that evoke nostalgia,” he adds. Inspiration for the designs also stems from travels across GCC countries and international museums. “Sometimes we draw ideas from museum collections but always add our own flavour to create something distinct,” he says.
Crafted from premium materials, the jewellery incorporates 21-carat gold, natural pearls, emeralds, sapphires, diamonds and cubic zirconias, ensuring superior craftsmanship. “We use only the best materials and work closely with clients to meet their specifications,” Mr. Jani shares. “Each piece undergoes an extensive design process, often taking up to 15 days to perfect. We ensure the
design, weight and finish are flawless before finalising any piece.”
Personalised service is a cornerstone of Bahar Jewellers. Clients actively participate in the design process, making it a collaborative experience. “We don’t just sell jewellery; we build relationships. Our clients are like family,” Mr. Jani says. This approach has fostered a loyal clientele spanning multiple generations. “Many of our clients return for life events such as weddings, and their children continue the tradition,” he notes.
While the jewellery industry evolves rapidly, Bahar Jewellers stays ahead by incorporating global trends into its designs. “We follow
international trends but always add our unique twist,” Mr. Jani explains. His passion for innovation has attracted compliments from clients worldwide. “Our jewellery speaks for itself,” he says proudly.
As Bahar Jewellers grows, Mr. Jani is exploring expansion beyond Bahrain. “People encourage me to open a branch in Dubai, and it’s something I’m seriously considering. For now, my focus remains on delivering the best quality and service,” he concludes with determination.
A Passion forFashion
Pom Pom Boutique has become a vibrant destination for women across Bahrain. The cheerful boutique offers fashionistas finds that are trendy, colourful and unique! Farah Baig speaks to Pom Pom Boutique’s visionary owner and creative force, Fatema Habib.
Asthe owner of Pom Pom Boutique, designer and stylist, Fatema Habib has created more than just a fashion brand – she’s created an experience. The mother of two has combined her passion for fashion design, styling and fabrics with her commitment to cater to the individual style of every woman.
“I used to live in Dubai and had my first store online,” explains Fatema. “Now, in my beloved Bahrain, I have physical stores with Pom Pom Boutique currently located at Al Aali Mall and a new branch opening at Avenues Mall soon!”
Pom Pom Boutique is best described as cheerful, youthful, and refreshingly pink. The store’s lively atmosphere invites customers to indulge in a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. “We carry unique products from all over the world – all curated and designed to reflect the latest trends and styles,” she says.
This exceptional selection of products includes clothing, bags, accessories, perfume and more. “These range from casual to formal attire and even statement pieces which are suitable for weddings and parties,” she states.
As part of its vibrant collection, Pom Pom offers stunning evening dresses.
“When it comes to evening dresses, you need to consider what complements your body shape, skin, hair and eyes colour. Accessorise your fit well, and walk with confidence, and I assure you that you will turn heads,” she advises.
“We have several beautiful customers who have trusted our designs since we first opened our doors. Some of these incredible women have gone on to request us to design their wedding gowns; as per our policy, we never turn down our customers,” she says.
So, building on the success of its custom wedding dresses and due to popular demand, Pom Pom Boutique will soon be introducing
a bridal collection featuring traditional, exotic and white formal pieces too. “To put it quite simply, this collection will make our brides’ wish come true!” she says cheerfully.
There’s plenty to love about Pom Pom Boutique with a personalised experience and pieces that make one feel confident and comfortable while enhancing their look. “We pay attention to details because women are fashionistas to us in their own way and style,” she adds.
Ultimately, what Fatema has created is an environment that evokes feelings of happiness and leaves you feeling uplifted, inspired and undeniably fashionable.
“Thank you for this interview, Woman This Month! If I had one last piece of advice for your readers, it would be this: Look pretty, feel pretty, be positive and keep your high heels on!”
SELF-LOVE BEGINS WITH AMOR SUI
Amor Sui Beauty Lounge is not just a beauty salon – it is a sanctuary dedicated to the art of wellbeing. Named after the Latin phrase for ‘self-love,’ the Adliya-based centre embodies a philosophy that celebrates individuality, confidence and holistic beauty.
Since its establishment in December 2020, the lounge has earned a stellar reputation for its exceptional services, meticulous attention to detail and innovative techniques that continue to captivate its growing clientele.
A UNIQUE APPROACH TO BEAUTY
Amor Sui is known for bringing a distinct flavour of Russian elegance and precision to Bahrain. Often referred to as a ‘Russian salon,’ it stands out with its specialised services that blend traditional beauty practices with modern innovations. Every detail at Amor Sui, from its luxurious interior to the curated treatments, reflects a commitment to excellence.
Amor Sui offers a wide range of beauty treatments designed to cater to diverse needs. Here are some of the lounge’s standout services:
1. Russian Manicure and Pedicure: This treatment redefines nail care by prioritising hygiene and precision. Employing hospital-grade sterilisation and specialised dry techniques, the Russian manicure ensures longerlasting, immaculate results. The method focuses on trimming and shaping cuticles meticulously, resulting in healthier nails and aesthetically perfect finishes.
2. Eyelash Extensions: The lounge provides expertly applied lash extensions that enhance natural beauty. Clients can relax on an anatomical mattress, designed for optimal comfort, while skilled technicians create a glamorous, mascarafree look using non-allergenic products.
3. Hair Extensions: For clients seeking effortless elegance, Amor Sui offers
premium Slavic hair extensions. Known for their durability and texture, these extensions add volume and length, seamlessly blending with natural hair.
4. Brow and Lash Treatments: Whether it’s shaping, colouring or laminating brows, Amor Sui’s specialists use highquality products like the Spanish brand Thuya to deliver sleek, polished results. Lash lamination services further enhance natural lashes by lifting and curling them for added definition.
5. Customised Nail Art: Nail enthusiasts will be delighted by the salon’s creative offerings, including stunning hand-drawn designs and a vast selection of polish colours. Talented stylists transform nails into bespoke works of art, ensuring each client leaves with a unique look.
The Russian Manicure in particular is a client favourite. Unlike traditional nail services, the Russian manicure often uses an electric drill or a specialised e-file. Amor Sui skips the soaking step, which can sometimes lead to softer nails and more lifting of gel polish. Instead, the focus is on dry techniques. The technician will carefully push back, trim and shape the cuticles, which results in a longer-lasting, neater appearance. This method can lead to better nail health and aesthetics – exactly what every woman wants!
Technicians also often take the time to customise the service based on individual nail growth patterns and preferences, resulting in a look that suits each client’s style. This all will lead to longer-lasting manicures, reducing the frequency of salon visits.
A HOLISTIC HAIR CARE PHILOSOPHY
It’s no denying that a woman’s hair is her crowning glory. Amor Sui believes that hair care is as essential as skincare. So, its expert stylists provide tailored treatments that rejuvenate, hydrate and protect your hair from environmental damage. Services include:
• Scalp Treatments: Promoting healthy hair growth through soothing and balancing techniques.
• Hydration Therapies: Restoring moisture and softness to dry or damaged hair.
• Repair Treatments: Addressing damage to bring back natural strength and shine.
Following up on sensational in-salon treatments, with renowned brands including L’Oreal, Kevin Murphy and Olaplex, the salon ensures premium care that extends beyond the visit. Clients can also purchase exclusive home-care products to maintain their results.
EXCELLENCE IN CRAFTSMANSHIP
The team at Amor Sui is the cornerstone of the lounge’s success. Comprising highly skilled professionals dedicated to staying at the forefront of beauty trends and techniques, the staff ensures every client enjoys an exceptional experience. Regular training and a shared passion for excellence make the team’s efforts truly unparalleled.
The salon also fosters a culture of appreciation and motivation among its employees. Through an engaging anonymous voting system, team members and clients nominate staff for awards in categories such as ‘Client Favourite’ and ‘Google Star,’ celebrating achievements and strengthening their community spirit.
CONVENIENCE AND ACCESSIBILITY
Located in Adliya, Amor Sui Beauty Lounge is easily accessible and surrounded by an array of dining options, perfect for a pre- or post-appointment treat. Clients can book appointments through the salon’s Instagram page or by calling the friendly administrative team, ensuring a seamless scheduling process.
Amor Sui extends its heartfelt thanks to its loyal clients, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in its success. With their feedback and trust, the salon continues to grow, innovate and elevate the standards of beauty care in Bahrain.

In Bahrain’s world of business and beauty, Moon Top Shop/Flormar Managing Director, Majeda Akhtarzadeh, has effectively blended her family’s entrepreneurial legacy with a passion for the cosmetics industry. She tells Farah Baig about continuing her father’s vision and how she is taking things forward with her granddaughter, the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Maryam Felaifel.
When asked about the biggest influence on her journey, Ms. Akhtarzadeh credits her father. “In the 1940s, he opened Moon Stores in Bab Al Bahrain, offering a variety of products from groceries to electronics with top agencies. His business quickly became known for its affordability and variety, appealing to both locals and expatriates,” she reminisces.
In 1966, he changed the face of Bahrain’s hospitality sector with the opening of its first hotel, Moon Plaza, followed by Moon Supermarket in Um Al Hassam.

Her interest deepened after attending beauty exhibitions in Milan and France alongside her father, where she envisioned her dream. Ms. Akhtarzadeh attributes Flormar’s grand success to its commitment to high-quality yet affordable products. “Its budget-friendly cosmetics appeal to all women, due to its excellent quality. Flormar’s high-quality formulations are effective and long-lasting. The brand also keeps up with the latest beauty trends, frequently updating its collections with trendy colours and innovative formulas that appeal to fashion-forward consumers,” she emphasises.
Whether you are looking for a natural touch or an evening glam look, Flormar has all the products every woman needs, including face, eyes, lips, nails, personal skin care as well as make up tools. One of her top recommended products is the brand’s cleansing milk.

Sharing words of wisdom for aspiring women, she says: “Passion and confidence is what will drive you through challenges and help you achieve your goals.”

The lively energy during match nights was contagious, making every goal and moment even more memorable.
Brimming with Flavour
The menu at SOL Lounge was a celebration of diverse flavours, crafted with precision and passion. From tantalising appetisers to hearty mains, every dish was designed to delight. Here’s a closer look at some of the standout offerings which we experienced durign a recent review:
The blissful experience at SOL Lounge took off with a variety of starters. We were served a platter of mixed fried bites, a perfect introduction to the menu, featuring a medley of textures and flavours that set the tone for the meal. The firecracker shrimp roll was crispy on the outside with a spicy, juicy shrimp filling that delivers a delightful kick. You can definitely not go wrong with freshly made mozzarella cheese sticks; golden and
gooey, these were a timeless classic done to perfection.
We were then served meat samosas, a Middle Eastern classic with rich, spiced meat encased in flaky pastry. The Wontons and Zaatar Croquettes, too, were a unique blend of Asian and Mediterranean influences that pair beautifully with their signature dips. We then moved on to the signature dishes at the SOL Lounge and they definitely blew us away with the presentation and freshness of the menu.
We started off with the Grilled Jumbo Shrimp with Saffron sauce which was an absolute showstopper. The jumbo shrimps were perfectly cooked, and the saffron sauce added a luxurious depth of flavour. Alongside the shrimp we were served a mixed grill platter. This was, without a doubt, a carnivore’s dream with tender lamb chops, juicy sheesh tawook, lamb kofta kebab and beef sheesh kebab. Each bite was a burst of smoky, aromatic spices.
Who doesn’t love a good cheeseburger? SOL Lounge’s double cheeseburger is a decadent treat stacked high with onion rings, jalapeno cheese bites, tomatoes, melted cheese and a perfectly fried egg. It’s a true indulgence for burger lovers.
The most unique dish during the experience had to be the Pistachio-Crusted Lamb with Tarragon Jus which exemplified culinary artistry. The lamb was tender and perfectly crusted, while the accompanying grilled zucchini, potato cake and sautéed shimeji mushrooms add layers of flavour and texture. The roasted half chicken was juicy and flavourful, and paired well with sun-dried tomatoes, baby potatoes and spinach for a rustic yet elegant experience.

TAKING THE FASHION INDUSTRY FORWARD
ESMOD Dubai, a premier institution for fashion education in the Middle East, continues to shape the future of aspiring designers under the visionary leadership of its founder and CEO, Tamara Hostal. With a career steeped in creativity and innovation, Ms. Hostal tells Woman This Month about nurturing talent and fostering a deeper understanding of the fashion industry’s complexities.
Ms. Hostal’s journey in fashion began with a personal passion for style and garment creation. “It is in my blood,” she says. “I have created many outfits for personal use, choosing unusual fabrics and launching new styles and signatures.” This lifelong love for fashion culminated in the establishment of ESMOD Dubai in 2006, alongside co-founder Denis Ravizza. As a branch of the renowned French fashion institute ESMOD, the Dubai campus offers a comprehensive three-year degree programme and an array of short courses tailored to various aspects of fashion, from design to production.
ESMOD Dubai stands out as a hub for aspiring designers, not only due to its rigorous curriculum but also because it serves as a popular recruitment ground for the industry. The institution’s emphasis on blending creative and business skills ensures its graduates are well-equipped for success. “We integrate creative and business skills through our unique methodology,” Ms. Hostal explains. “Our programmes are designed to
provide a strong foundation in fashion history, trends and the business side of the industry.”
This commitment to excellence has extended beyond the classroom. In collaboration with Tamkeen and Bahrain’s 973 initiative, ESMOD Dubai recently launched a bespoke training programme for 30 Bahraini designers with the goal of enabling these talented individuals to showcase their collections on a global stage. “We wanted the Bahraini designers to be able to reach a global market and show their collections globally,” says Ms. Hostal. The participants, all Bahraini nationals with established brands that have been operating for a minimum of five years, are undergoing a year-long curriculum that delves into essential subjects such as fashion history, trend analysis and the business aspects of the industry.
By exposing designers to the full spectrum of the fashion world – from digital design to technical aspects – the programme ensures a holistic learning experience. Ms. Hostal highlights the importance of staying current
in this fast-paced industry: “It is absolutely important to learn more and be up-to-date.”
This initiative also leverages the expertise of ESMOD Dubai’s seasoned professionals, who provide invaluable insights into the industry’s demands and opportunities.
As these Bahraini designers complete the course, Ms. Hostal envisions a bright future for them. “The next step is to practice, gain confidence and express their creativity,” she notes. By fostering a global perspective and a deep understanding of contemporary fashion culture, ESMOD Dubai hopes to prepare its trainees for lasting success in the competitive world of fashion.
Reflecting on what it takes for Bahraini designers to thrive, Ms. Hostal underscores the need for alignment with current trends and innovation. “To create and develop their creativity in line with where fashion is going today is key,” she says.

Mohini Dey
Mohini
Bass, Brass and a New Wave of
This year, the 8th BNP Paribas Bahrain Jazz Fest proudly showcased two remarkable women, among many others, on its lineup: Mohini Dey, often referred to as the ‘bass goddess,’ and Andrea Motis, the Spanish jazz prodigy. Both are redefining what it means to be women in the jazz world, each with unique musical identities that resonate globally. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, they spoke to Woman This Month about their journeys, inspirations and thoughts on their craft.
Andrea Motis
Dey’s anticipation for her debut in Bahrain was palpable.
“It’s my first time here, and sharing the stage with two of my favourite people is incredibly exciting,” she says, referring to her bandmates in MaMoGi, saxophonist Mark Hartsuch and drummer Gino Banks.
The story behind MaMoGi is as dynamic as its sound. Mohini recalls how her husband, Mark, was inspired to compose music influenced by the Carnatic rhythms she often played. “Mark writes the music, and Gino and I bring in our rhythmic ideas. It’s a collective effort that creates something fresh and unheard,” she explains. The trio’s synergy has led to their second album, set to release later this year, blending jazz, funk and Indian classical music into an innovative musical experience.
For Mohini, maintaining the integrity of diverse genres is essential. “Music, to me, is a conversation – it must flow freely. I focus on rhythm, but sometimes melody takes precedence. The key is creating something that moves people,” she says.
As a woman thriving in the male-dominated world of jazz, Mohini believes in focusing on the music, not the gender. “Art shouldn’t have a gender. It’s about the music, and we should celebrate it regardless of who makes it. That said, this is a great time for women. We’re standing up, voicing opinions and showing the world what we’re capable of,” she reflects.
Andrea Motis has been captivating audiences since she made her debut at just 12 years old. Reflecting on her journey, she says: “Touring and performing have taught me so much about life. My quintet, which has been with me for over a decade, feels like family. Our shared experiences shape not only my music but who I am as a person.”
A Catalan native, Andrea seamlessly blends her cultural heritage with jazz, incorporating bossa nova and Brazilian folk into her work. “As a Latin musician, these styles feel natural to me. Singing jazz in Portuguese feels closer to home than English,” she explains, highlighting her deep connection to her roots.
While Andrea takes pride in headlining international festivals, she doesn’t focus on being a woman in jazz. “I feel like any other artist and gender has never taken precedence over art. However, I do feel fortunate to use my art to inspire others,” she says.
Her versatility as a multiinstrumentalist and vocalist adds depth to her performances. “If a melody feels vocal, I sing it; otherwise, I might use my trumpet or let other musicians in my band take the lead. Collaboration is key, and I’m lucky to work with talented producers and players,” Andrea notes.

A HAVEN FOR BEAUTY & RELAXATION
Bahrain’s latest beauty spot, Emmanuelle, located at the centre of its fine dining and nightlife capital, promises to redefine expectations by offering conscious, high-end beauty services at affordable rates in a comfortable, cosy setting.
Discreetly tucked away in the heart of Adliya’s bustling Block 338, Emmanuelle builds on almost two decades of success in Kuwait and brings a proven formula to Bahrain. It is the brainchild of Lebanese national, Nadine Fawaz, and is the latest chapter in her story of roots, resilience and reinvention.
“Although I was born in Ivory Coast, where I had an incredible childhood, Lebanon holds a special place in my heart: a homeland I’ve never fully known but deeply cherish,” says Nadine. “Life has led me across continents and experiences, shaping me into the mother of two incredible boys who are my greatest pride and joy. Since 2011, I’ve called Bahrain home – a place that welcomed me and where I’ve built a new chapter of my life. Before that, I spent a decade in Kuwait, a country that profoundly influenced my personal and professional growth.”
“I’m a biker who feels alive on the open road; a gym enthusiast who thrives on pushing boundaries; and a lover of sunsets and sunrises – those perfect, fleeting moments of calm. At home, I share my life with a diva pug who brings humour and warmth to my days,” she shares.
Nadine’s journey into the beauty industry began unexpectedly in 2008 when she co-founded Emmanuelle, a sanctuary of elegance and serenity in Kuwait.
“It started with a dream shared with my business partner Nelly, my hairdresser turned collaborator. At the time, I never imagined that I’d leave my career as a French teacher to create something that would touch so many lives,” she says.
“When my second son moved abroad to join his brother at university, I thought of returning to Kuwait to further develop Emmanuelle, but decided to open another branch in Bahrain instead,” she adds.
“At Emmanuelle, we offer more than just beauty services; we create experiences. From haircuts and treatments to lash extensions and nail art, every detail is thoughtfully curated. Furthermore, our commitment to vegan, cruelty-free and even gluten-free products reflects a conscious lifestyle that values both people and the planet. Beauty is an expression of the soul – a glow that starts within and radiates outward,” Nadine explains.
“Emmanuelle is a serene escape where every client feels at home. It’s not just a salon; it’s a reflection of care, connection and a belief that self-love is the foundation of beauty,” she concludes.

A CORNERSTONE OF FAMILY WELLBEING THERAPY
Dr. Siddiqa Hussain Al Meer, a consultant child, adult and family therapist at Gulf Gate Medical Complex, has devoted her career to improving the emotional and psychological well-being of young people and their families in Bahrain. A graduate of Arabian Gulf University with a specialisation in child and adolescent psychiatry from King’s College in London, as well as being a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), she brings a wealth of experience to her practice. Her work encompasses individual therapy for young and adult clients, family therapy, holistic therapy and promoting healthier dynamics and long-term well-being.
Dr. Al Meer’s approach is multifaceted, focusing on children’s and adolescents’ emotional, behavioural and developmental challenges.
“I offer assessments to identify mental health disorders, learning disabilities or behavioural issues,” she explains. “In family therapy, I aim to improve communication, resolve conflicts and strengthen relationships. This includes parenting support and education, which are essential for overall well-being.” Her goal is to empower families to function cohesively, providing young patients with a supportive environment to thrive.
The post-pandemic period has brought unique challenges for families in Bahrain, Dr. Al Meer observes. “We’ve seen a rise in behavioural problems such as aggression, defiance, or social withdrawal among children. Parents often feel frustrated and confused, not knowing how to address these issues,” she says. Adolescents face their own pressures, including academic stress, identity exploration and social expectations.
“Therapy helps them learn how to manage these pressures in healthy ways, avoiding harmful coping mechanisms like withdrawal or anger.”
Family involvement, she stresses, is central to her therapeutic process. “I work closely with families to develop effective discipline strategies and address underlying issues such as anxiety,
trauma or social difficulties,” she explains. “This not only helps children express themselves better but also builds their emotional intelligence, which is critical for boosting self-esteem, navigating relationships and managing stress.”
Dr. Al Meer further highlights the growing mental health concerns among teenagers, noting a rise in anxiety, depression and mood disorders.
“Adolescents today face unique pressures from academic expectations, social media, family dynamics and peer relationships,” she says. “Creating a safe, non-judgmental space allows them to express their thoughts and emotions freely. Through adolescent-centred therapy, I guide them in building resilience and developing strategies to cope with these challenges effectively.”
In response to parents’ hesitations about therapy, Dr. Al Meer reassures them that seeking help is a positive step. “It’s completely normal to feel uncertain,” she says. “But therapy is a proactive decision that leads to healthier relationships and emotional strength. Addressing issues early – whether it’s a mental health concern, family conflict or academic pressure – ensures better outcomes in the future.”
In her practice, Dr. Al Meer has witnessed the transformative power of therapy in fostering healing, growth and happiness. “It’s a commitment to your child’s and your own mental and emotional health,” she concludes, underscoring the value of therapy for families striving for well-being.

DON’T GO DOWN WITH THE SICKNESS
Parenting columnist, Ouiam El Hassani, sheds light on how you can stay healthy when your kid is sick!
Cold and flu season is officially here, and parents everywhere are waging war against sore throats, stuffy noses and high fevers. What’s a mama to do when sickness has breached the walls of her home and taken up residence in the form of a chicken soup-sipping kiddo on the couch? How do you keep yourself healthy when your kids are sick?
Contrary to popular belief, all hope is not lost. In addition to washing, and washing, and washing those hands, here are some other often-overlooked recommendations for how to stay healthy in a germ-y home:
Boost Immunity with Breakfast
The war on the common cold can start at the breakfast table. Families should cut the processed foods and add more nutrient-dense foods, especially at breakfast. Morning protein is important for fullness, but it also helps with tissue repair and a general immune-system boost.
Parents should opt for whole protein sources such as meat, fish, dairy, eggs, beans, tofu or nuts to add some immuneboosting protein power to breakfast. That might look like a yoghurt bowl with berries, a fried egg and cheese sandwich or a smoothie with added protein powder. Then aim to round it out – at least throughout the rest of the day. A nutritionallybalanced diet is best for cold prevention as each nutrient plays a different, key role in overall wellness.
Turn to the Vitamin C and Zinc Team
Some studies suggest high doses of Vitamin C or zinc can limit the duration of an upper respiratory infection or cold if you feel a cold coming on. It’s not 100 percent effective, but the risk of toxicity is minimal – so it’s worth a shot even if there’s a small benefit. And it’s not too late if you’re already sick. The combo of Vitamin C and zinc can decrease the duration of symptoms even after a cold starts to set in. When you start to feel a little bit sick and start to feel that scratchy throat and think, “Maybe I am coming down with something”, go ahead and take Vitamin C.
Stay Hydrated
While certain foods and medicinal herbs can slow a virus’ progress, there is no menu item with the antiviral properties that can stop a cold or flu from happening altogether. It does help, however, to down a few glasses of water – at least when it comes to helping the body respond to the stress of illness.
Try Some Fresh Ginger
If Vitamin C-rich foods such as peppers, Brussels sprouts and broccoli are too tame for your taste, spicy ginger is another great source of immunityboosting phytochemicals, or plant compounds. Ginger is wellregarded for its powerful antiviral and antibacterial properties, making it a strong immune system stimulant.
Infusing a couple of inches of peeled ginger in simmering water for 15 minutes makes a warming brew that you can sweeten with honey, then sip throughout the day.
Stock Up On Elderberry
A herbal medicine with a long history of use, black elderberry has been found to be highly effective in treating upper respiratory infections and reducing the duration of the common cold. Keep some elderberry gummies on hand for when the first signs of a cold start showing up to hopefully shorten its stay.
Get As Much Sleep
As Possible
Sleep is a powerful tool for preventing and fighting off sicknesses. When you sleep, your body produces immune cells that help fight infection. Sleep also helps regulate inflammation and promotes faster recovery. Aim for seven to nine hours of sleep each night, and prioritise rest when you’re feeling under the weather.
Stay safe and healthy!

UNDERSTANDING IRLEN SYNDROME
Board-Certified Behaviour Analyst, Fifi Kiwan, sheds a light on Irlen Syndrome and how it impacts visual processing and reading challenges. Irlen Syndrome, also known as Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome, is a condition that affects how individuals process visual information. Discovered by Helen Irlen in the 1980s, this syndrome often goes unrecognised, leading to significant challenges for those who experience it. It can profoundly impact both children and adults, particularly in areas involving reading and visual tasks.
What is Irlen Syndrome?
Individuals with Irlen Syndrome often report symptoms such as light sensitivity, headaches, eye strain and difficulty with reading. These challenges stem from the brain’s inability to process certain wavelengths of light effectively. As a result, reading can become a frustrating and exhausting task. For many, black text on a white background may appear to shimmer or blur, making it difficult to focus on the words.
Visual Processing and Reading Challenges
The effects of Irlen Syndrome can be particularly pronounced in educational settings. Children may struggle to keep up with their peers due to difficulties in reading fluency and comprehension. The visual distortions can lead to misreading words, skipping lines or losing your place on the page. Consequently, this can result in lower academic performance, decreased self-esteem and a reluctance to engage in reading activities.
Adults, too, can experience significant challenges in their professional and personal lives. Tasks that require prolonged visual attention, such as reading reports or using screens, can lead to fatigue and frustration. This chronic discomfort may lead some individuals to avoid situations that require reading, further isolating them from opportunities for growth and learning.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Diagnosing Irlen Syndrome can be complex, as it often overlaps with other conditions such as dyslexia or ADHD. A comprehensive assessment typically involves identifying symptoms and evaluating how they impact daily activities.
Optometrists or specialists trained in Irlen Syndrome can conduct vision tests and provide insight into the specific visual processing challenges faced by the individual.
How text may appear to those with Irlen Syndrome
The most common treatment involves the use of coloured overlays or tinted lenses. These modifications can help filter light wavelengths, reducing visual distortions and improving reading comfort. Many people report significant improvements in their ability to read and process information when using these tools, allowing them to engage more fully in educational and occupational pursuits.
The Importance of Awareness
Raising awareness about Irlen Syndrome is crucial. Many individuals remain undiagnosed due to a lack of understanding among educators, healthcare providers and families. Increased awareness can lead to a more timely diagnosis and effective interventions, enabling those affected to thrive.
For parents and educators, being vigilant about signs of visual processing difficulties is essential. If a child consistently struggles with reading, shows signs of frustration or avoids reading activities, it may be worth exploring the possibility of Irlen Syndrome. Early identification can make a significant difference in a child’s educational experience.
Irlen Syndrome represents a unique and often misunderstood challenge in the realm of visual processing. By recognising its symptoms and understanding its impact on reading and learning, we can better support those affected. Whether through diagnosis, treatment, or simply fostering a more inclusive environment, there is a path forward that allows individuals with Irlen Syndrome to succeed and flourish in their academic and professional endeavours.

If your shoes could talk, what story would they tell?
They would share a tale of a day filled with creativity and collaboration. Every step would reflect the passion I have for transforming spaces and the joy of working with clients who inspire me. It’s a journey of turning visions into reality!
If you could trade lives with someone for a day, who would it be and why?
I deeply admire the strength and achievements of women from all walks of life – mothers, sisters, leaders, entrepreneurs or artists. Each of them, in their own way, has worked hard to make a difference.
What's your favourite way to unwind? I like to unwind before the day even begins! My favorite ritual is having an early breakfast alone at my favourite café.
What's a goal you're currently working towards?
My goal is to see Lumineoux Interiors grow into a respected name in Bahrain and beyond. I’m deeply proud of my Bahraini roots and want every client to have a piece of Bahrain in their home. Bringing Bahraini culture into my work and supporting local craftsmen is my way of giving back.
If you could have a superpower for a day, what would it be?
I would focus on creating timeless spaces. Transforming homes into serene, glamorous havens that radiate warmth and welcome. I believe that the environment we live in has a profound effect on our mindset.
If you could have lunch with any inspiring woman, living or past, who would it be and why?
While I admire many inspiring women, from Grace Kelly and Coco Chanel to Frida Kahlo and Zaha Hadid, I would choose to have lunch with Zaha Hadid. I’m fascinated by her groundbreaking journey in architecture, especially her start in the 1980s.
Tell us about your journey in interior design.
My journey in interior design began in school, where I discovered a passion for art. I pursued my bachelor’s degree in interior design at Ahlia University in Bahrain, which was a dream come true. During my studies, I delved into courses on architectural façades and design. I had the honour of being part of the first graduating class in interior design at the university, an experience that shaped my path in this vibrant field.
Describe your interior design style in three words.
Storytelling, timeless and detailed.
