Concept: ‘3’

The Team

As we are the current third years and soon to be the third graduating year from BAGD, we will complete the first three years of the course running. As well as this the number 3 is applicable to the number of tutors and main studio spaces. Taking the strength and range of possibilities of ‘3’ forward, the design of the yearbook will be based around the number 3.

Images

The cover design shows how the layout in the publication will unfold, with the big half tone image showing how all other imagery apart from the student work will be in half tone effect.

The cover design also allows for the back page to just have a white strip on the spine side with yearbook printed clearly in the corner, we have removed the number of the yearbook off the back page, placing it only on the spine.

The main approach of the yearbook is within the concept ‘3’, using the halftone image effect as one of three graphic devices used in yearbook, these devices really give the essence that we are on a graphic design course, we are passionate people and we are still in education and daring to try new things within the graphic design industry.

The student pages show three pieces of work, within three images, full bleed images will be used occasionally in student spreads, but frequently in the special pages.

The visiting professional pages will showcase the involvement the industry has had with the course.

Throughout the yearbook the student DPS’s will demonstrate to the audience how passionate and professional we are about our work. The center spread will be a definate break in the publication, that allows each student to show something they are passionate about, other than design.

Colour

The format of the publication makes it hard to place imagery, however the margins maximise the space on each spread and the 9 column grid allows a more considered design layout. The cover stock proposed will be 300 gsm, with the inside spreads using 150 gsm, this gives the publication a rugged and expernsive feel throughout.

Typeface The chosen typeface is a popular typeface used by graphic designers and will defiantly suit a graphic design course yearbook. The typeface still also stands out in all three weights, and has a regular and medium typesetting, meaning where not using ultra light or extra bold typefaces, this puts less emphasis on the typeface and more on the design of the publication.
