‘Ilovetotravel.Travelingtomeisanactthatsimultaneouslybringsdifferentemotionssuch asexcitementandloneliness.MyworksshowdifferentimagesoftheplaceswhereIactually visited,sothatIamallowedtoexpressvariousemotionsandthemomentsthatIphysically experiencedthroughthejourney.’

Jieun’spersonalfeelingsaredescribedintheformofpaintedinkmarksorbetterdescribed ascalligraphy,whichareinstinctivelyspreadanddroppedonthesurfaceofthepaper.She thenstartscreatingcomparativelyrealisticimagesofthecitieswithintheabstractinkmarks, adding colors to convey the emotions she felt at specifc moments of her trip – be it happiness, lonelinessoreagerness.

Jieun’scityscapesareattimesdull,yetthereissomethingthatshinesthrough;andthough therearenosignsofpeoplelivinginthebeautifulcitiesinherworks,theexpressionoflight, color,greeneryandskyscapesmakesherworkalive.Shealsorecallsmomentswhereshe felt emotionallyoverwhelmedandstrongfeelingsoflonelinessasshelookeddownuponthe citiesfromavantage point.Sheadds, ourcitiesarechanging veryfastwhilewe arebusywith ourlives. Hence,the dullfeeling ofthe buildingsportrays thepeople inhectic dailylife, where shebelievesonlymeaninglesseverydayconversationexists.

Jieunisanemerging SouthKoreanartistwho graduatedwithadegree inFineArts&Design AdvertisingfromKonkukUniversity,Korea.Herworkshavebeendisplayedinvariousart exhibitionsinKorea, HongKong,France, andItalyand nowinSingapore.
