Market Sector The Global Luxury goods market has a current market value of £94.5 Billlion, growing 5% on last years figures. This market is projected to grow a further 6% by the end of 2016. Although the growth rate within the Luxury market has now slowed down since the bounce-back boom between 20102012 due to the financial crisis prior, it is steadily further improving. The overall market size is split into 4 groups, comprising of Fashion and Leather Goods (45%), Perfume and Cosmetics (28.5%), Watches and Jewellery (24%) and Other (2.5%). Fashion and leather goods have became a staple in the wardrobe of consumers. In the UK under 25s purchase are purchasing 41% of the luxury products sold and in the US 25-34 account for 51%. With Millenials spending taking over baby boomers in 2015, expectations of luxury brands are changing and need to diversify to maintain or improve their success in the marketplace. 7

Traditional advertising no longer interests the luxury millenial and their is a distaste for fast fashion companies growing amongst them. They are now shifting towards smaller interesting personable businesses that can offer a more “up-close” experience and deliver a more unique product and service. Despite the Womenswear market being the main focus for luxury goods and media leaning more towards them for purchasing luxury items, Menswear has outgrown Womenswear in the last year increasing 4.5% compared to women’s 4%. Following the success of LC:M, brands have debuted Menswear only stores & collections. Also department stores such as Harrods and Selfridges have increased floorspace and is being seen as an avenue to explore. Men are loyal customers that are drawn to quality products with unique aesthetics and are showing more interest in the latest fashions and trends.

Sandy Warrior Protection has been as running theme that we have face throughout the years regarding nature and the environment. However this trend is about more than just protecting ourselves against pollution of the mind and the body and creating a seporation between us and our environment. It is about tapping into our primal instincts when confronted with a threat, and triggering our fight responses to remove the problem which is pollution and climate change.

SANDY WARRIOR Colour Breakdown

A mixture of classic earthtones tones are used to mimic and reinvent the natural colours that appear together in the world when forces have acted up on it over a period of time. Textured hues of yellow and orange reflect the sand and stone found in deserted areas. Along with bursts of green to represent the military uniform as well as the moss and corrosion that occurs with the presence of damp. Strong flecks of rust are seen throughout to emulate the brownish appearance that occurs on wethered material and metals. Paired with a subtle grey to give the AW17/18 colours a cooler vibe and a thread to bring the other colours together 13

SANDY WARRIOR Key Shapes

The key shapes are inspired by the “Fight� response seen in nature.. The military style shapes and fits are to create an imposing shape in the face of danger, similar to bears in the wild. The AW17/18 will see a twist in militarywear with a more combat ready comfort-fit for ease of movement. Protective vests are key items due to their functional nature and protective insulation properties.

UltraTouch

Wool Cork Linenv Polyester Soy Cashmere Organic Cotton Inspired by nature and exposure to the elements these AW17/18 have been chosen as key parts of this particular trend. Exposure to the elements and pollution increases year in and out, we need a protective layer to distance our skin from intruders.

UltraTouch is an A-Class building material made from post industrial recycled natural cotton fibers. This innovation shows that cotton can easily be repurposed in many ways and can be incorporated into luxury clothing. Recycled cotton still produces high quality product such as the recycled cotton bowls featured below.

Wool is a breathable, hypoallergenic and grown. This material will contribute less damage to our environment and more damage to pollution and climate change. Cork is an amazing material that has a tactility like no other. The dirt and dust proof properties are beneficial when battling natural forces. The overall driver for these materials are their Organic nature, durability and beneficial properties to protect us in our fight against pollution and climate change.

Natures Nurturer Aged between 26-36 and belongs to the Generation-Y demographic. He is strong, hardworking and adaptable to new conditions and he expects his clothing to be too. He is very active, always on the move and looking for his next adventure. His style is first and foremost comfortable and functional with a fashionable edge. Durability is a must. He is drawn to minimally processed textiles that are lightweight, but still protect him from natural forces and are impermeable to water and harmful gases that we can’t see. ASTRODUSTRIAL Humans have always looked to the sky for answers and now with technological advances and the commercialisation of space flight, we are seeking the answers for ourselves. Curiosity is an innate insitict within every human being, from the accidental creation of Coca-Cola to using an iphones in-built gyroscope to allow a drone to levitate freely in the air. With pollution on the rise and the toxicity of the environment becoming more viscous, fear of mortality is growing and the urge to escape is increasing. Our flight response is activated as we seek to explore alternative, more appealing conditions to thrive and optomise our existance.

The contrast between the pearlescent hues of blue, pink and purple and the grainy greys creates an interesting for AW17/18 The futurism and fusion of luminescent colours present the idea of exploration and escapism. Looking to the stars and galaxies for inspiration and nature for protective layering. The grey and stone notes combined with the brass/gold accents represents the anticipated debris and rubble that is trying to be escaped from. Combining the two contrasting elements creates and industrial futuristic colour palette that oppose eachother in perfectly. 27

Combining our technological advances and our primal instincts to get away from our declining planet. Our oversized fit reflects our urge to “Spread our wings” and fly away. This fit provides comfort and breathability and allows us to explore a new silhouette in preparation for our new home.

Cotton Neoprene Stomatex Suede Wool Polyester / Rayon Conventional neoprene can be quite uncofortable directly on the skin, whereas stomatex is able to overcome this by removing moisture. This would be more appealing to customers in future. Neoprene is currently more cost effective so i have included both options.

A selection of contrasting materials selected for this trend reflects the polarity between the colourful gentleness of the iridescense and the brash neutral tones of the grey and brass tones. Experimentation and exploration is key to this trend and a subtle blend of both elements give and edge to an otherwise unexciting aesthetic. The Rayon-Polyester blend (See Below on the far right) is a great example of an iridescent fabric that is still relatively subtle. This rayon properties of the fabric is it absorbant and resistent to abrasion. Fused with polyester reduces the need to iron and allowing the wearer to experience a new type of convenience.

Focussing on texture and material, metal fastenings and accents to represent the industrial theme of machinery. DIVERSE UNIVERSE Equality amongst humans is sought after since the beginining of time. Our inability of a freeze response like animals have means we are not able to “play dead” in threatening situations and accept our fate. Instead we reapeatedly petition be heard and accepted. This trend explores the blending and inclusion of different cultures and traditions to create a more unified population. Represented by the ‘Fibannaci Spiral’ a mathmatical ‘God’ formula that in nature that signifies a continuous growth and freedom. Flowing materials and looser fits with beautiful prints can bee seen througout this trend.

With colour brings emotion and non-verbal cues to those that look upon it. For this AW17/18 blending vibrant colours with pastel tones to give a winter twist. Blues symbolises trust and loyalty combined with Orange representing encouragement accompanied with flecks of stability (Purple) and (Growth) create a powerful colour story for this season. Embracing colours with traditional routes and softer hues for the winter will help to brighten up the season and bring warmth to a freezing season and a sense of inner calmness and peace. 41

However the classic regular fitting suit is a staple for men and has stayed the same.

Nylon Cotton Hemp Silk Wool Cashmere Blend Polyester / Rayon Blend With diversity within different regions is increasing on a global scale due to recent affairs, many different cultures are set to reside in the same place. This means that fabric choices and finishes are going to adapt to cater to the new, refined population.

Ethnic prints are reflective of the cultural blending and the utopian idea of one race working together. These prints can be transferred to a variety of materials. Batik, Navaho, Ikat, Kente and Asian inspired prints work well with this trend. Not only limited to clothing, upholstery, product design and interiors.

From weighty wool cashmere blend materials for those that are more sartorially inclined to beautiful soft silks blended with hemp to produce a much more durable textile. AW17/18 prints are able to be worn both subtley and loudly, this trend allows for multiple possibilities that will appeal to both traditional and non-traditional consumers alike.

Self Employed Eclectic This male is aged 25- 35 and belongs to Generation-Y (Millenials). He is married and self employed with no children or dependentdents and is well-educated and well-travelled philanthropist. He does not buy his own home, he tends to rent, swap or borrow instead so he is able to leave at the drop of a hat. This consumers style is multi-facetedand his wadrobe consists of colourful pieces from places that he has visited and a mix of high and low end. He likes the authentic crafstmanship and story behind his clothing. He values comfort and tactile material that is vibrant and gives a life to the clothing. He is drawn to prints and patterns more than anything else. He is used to travelling and exploring small villages where he is able to experience the true culture of the countries he visits and the quite slower paced environment.
