STYLE & BEAUTY

A Guide to Successful

M

ost people’s initial gut reaction when the term “print mixing” is mentioned is YIKES! There seems to be a fear (or maybe it’s just a lack of knowledge) when it comes to putting an outfit together that includes two or more different prints. I get it: you don’t want it to look like you couldn’t decide what to wear and ended up just throwing on all your favourite colours and prints at once. The struggle with prints is real sometimes. It can be tricky to figure out what patterns work well together and why. But have no fear, because today, I’m sharing some foolproof guidelines to follow when it comes to print mixing. You’ll be confidently mixing your favourite patterns and prints in no time!

MONOCHROMATIC OR NEUTRAL PATTERNS This guideline is so important - especially when you just want to test out print mixing for the first time. Stick to at least one print being a neutral pattern! These types of patterns are the easiest to mix and go with literally everything. Think stripes, polka dots, gingham... they are your new BFF. SIZE MATTERS This one is also super crucial to perfecting the art of mixing prints. If you want to mix two or more different prints, you need to consider the size of each print. If you decide you really want to wear pants that have a large floral pattern on them for example, ensure that the top you wear is a smaller printed striped shirt. It’s all about balance when it comes to print mixing - if one print is large, the other should be small. ONE UNIFYING COLOUR Another way to help create a cohesive outfit while print mixing is to find a unifying colour that is present in each print. Finding two different prints with at least one similar colour shows that you thoughtfully planned out your outfit. It also just looks more aesthetically pleasing to the eye when you wear colours that compliment one another instead of clash!

STYLE & BEAUTY

“Playing with different textures of prints can really make an outfit stand out.” SPREAD OUT THE LOVE Though there’s nothing wrong with pairing a printed jacket and a blouse in an entirely different pattern, it can end up looking too busy. To keep this from happening, just choose one print to be on your top half and the other to be on the bottom. For example, you could pair a monochromatic printed blouse on the top and a super cute, colourfully printed skirt (or heels - but not both!) on the bottom. PLAY AROUND WITH TEXTURE This is not a necessity when it comes to print mixing - but I think it makes an outfit even more fun and interesting! Playing with different textures of prints can really make an outfit stand out. If you’re feeling up to it, try mixing a silk polka dot blouse with suede leopard heels! Now that you have some new guidelines to follow when it comes to mixing prints, take a look in your closet and see what you can come up with! Don’t forget to share the result with me on Facebook or Instagram!

COMEDY IN MOTION WITH BOB CATES Presented by the Weyburn Concert Series

F

rom farm boy to stage headliner, Bob Cates is the variety entertainer extraordinaire! Who knew learning to juggle with tennis balls as a teenager might actually lead to a career in the entertainment field?!

Cate’s passion for performing and the art of juggling continued to develop during five years of post-secondary education. A leadership diploma followed by a commerce degree from McMasters did not deter his desire to pursue a performance career. Bob Cates is a Canadian Juggling Champion, a clean comedian and a physical variety artist, who has delighted audiences around the world for twenty plus years. He keeps crowds laughing with fastpaced comedy routines involving advanced juggling, black light and laser manipulations as well as wild unicycling and balancing skills. Cate’s insane ‘real’ plate spinning finale needs to be seen to be believed. He is one of few entertainers left in North America performing authentic plate spinning – his signature piece. His Comedy in Motion show has headlined such cruise lines as Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Disney, Princess and Celebrity. Bob was awarded “Entertainer of the Year” at the 2016 Canadian Event Industry Awards, after having been nominated for that same award four previous times. He is also the only variety act ever nominated for “Best One Man Show” at the Canadian Comedy Awards, not just once, but two times! Bob has been nominated twice for the “Best Variety Act” at those same comedy awards. Weyburn Concert Series is excited to bring “Comedy in Motion” to our performance venue! PRANAYAMA Breathing Your Way to a Better Life

“A yogi measures the span of life by the number of breaths, not by the number of years.” (Swami Sivananda)

By Tonya Lambert

Y

oga teaches us that our lungs contain a vital energy called prana. Prana flows through channels in the body called nadis, which connect the body’s various energy centers known as chakras. Prana is different from breathe, which is what animates or drives prana. By learning to control your breathing, you learn to direct your prana to other areas of your body. This is known as pranayama or the extension of one’s vital life force. Pranayama promotes a feeling of calm and relaxation, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety. It can be used to help you fall asleep faster and have a more restful sleep. It can aid your digestion. Pranayama also improves focus and mental clarity and can be used to energize you. The effect all depends on the way you breathe. This is something which yoga teaches you. Normally, breathing is an unconscious and involuntary process originating in the medulla oblongata or brain stem. Conscious breathing is controlled by the cerebral cortex, the area of the brain which also controls the emotions. By breathing consciously, you exert more control over your emotions by exercising more control over the cerebral cortex. Conscious breathing is a form of meditation. When you are aware of your breathing, you are in the moment and not dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. Yoga involves the synchronization of breathing and moving. Yoga is about gaining greater self-awareness, about connecting with your true self through a state of focused concentration brought about by controlled breathing.

Centered Physiotherapy and Yoga:

Caring for the Mind, Body and Spirit By Tobie Hainstock

F

or those who have never tried it, taking a yoga class may seem intimidating. Licensed physiotherapist and yoga instructor Susan Fleck would like to put everyone’s mind at ease.

As owner of Centered Physiotherapy and Yoga, Fleck offers yoga classes that are adaptable to all levels of mobility. “Anybody can do yoga. We provide props such as chairs, bolsters and straps to assist members with completing the various positions.”

BENEFITS There are three main areas where yoga can be beneficial; physical, mental and spiritual. Physical benefits include increased flexibility, increased muscle strength, weight reduction and more. The relaxation techniques can lessen chronic pain in conditions like arthritis, lower back pain and headaches. Yoga can also reduce insomnia and lower blood pressure. Regular yoga participation increases body awareness, creates clarity of mind, relieves stress and sharpens the mind. “People who practice yoga are more aware of how their body moves and how they think. This can help make them more aware of how these factors can influence their wellbeing,” says Fleck.

CLASSES Centered Physiotherapy and Yoga offers yoga classes to people of all ages and abilities. Fleck goes the extra mile to make the classes comfortable for everyone. “My background as a physiotherapist helps my students because I understand how their bodies work and what their limitations may be.” Centered Physiotherapy and Yoga offers classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon and Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. “I also offer private sessions,” Fleck points out. “I welcome couples, splurge groups, women’s groups, sports teams and almost anything else.”

THE MIND AND BODY WORKING TOGETHER Practicing yoga is a great way to get in tune with your body and your inner self. At Centered Physiotherapy and Yoga, you get the benefits of practicing yoga with an instructor who understands how your body works. Atonement Fitness

Helps You Get Right with Your Body! By Tobie Hainstock

Atone: verb; make amends or reparation.

A

tonement Fitness is an inspiring fitness centre that specializes in unique figure shaping equipment for women. The focus is on improving health, mobility, toning and circulation. It is not about building muscle mass. “The toning tables essentially do the work for you, they help to get you motivated” explains Karen Sidloski owner/operator. Having done this type of workout before opening the fitness centre, Sidloski is a true believer of its benefits. “Over the years, I tried different diets to lose weight and after having children, I noticed that I was losing muscle tone. When my 25th wedding anniversary was approaching, I wanted to wear my wedding gown but couldn’t fit into it. That’s when I first tried these figure-shaping toning beds and cardiovascular machines.” After changing her diet and working out with the machines, Sidloski started seeing the difference in her body. Her shape was coming back. She also noticed that she was feeling stronger and healthier with more energy. She was getting right with her body again!

20

R eFined WEYBURN & AREA

Sidloski was so impressed with the results that she couldn’t keep it to herself! She wanted to share her experience with other women in Weyburn and area. Atonement Fitness offers two sets of seven toning beds that target the common problem areas that women have. Each bed focuses on a different area of your body, working the area for six minutes while continuously strengthening and toning the muscles and increasing flexibility and circulation. Because the machines help move your body for you, they are ideal for women with physical restrictions, stiff joints and fatigue, and ladies of all shapes and sizes can receive the benefits. Sidloski recommends visiting the centre at least three days per week for best results. As personal fitness levels increase, members are encouraged to add other items into their routines, such as dumb bells and assorted exercise balls. Cardiovascular equipment, including a treadmill, an elliptical and a recumbent stationary bike, is also available.

MOTORING

Are the Filters in Your Vehicle Affecting Its Health and Yours? By Tonya Lambert

E

very type of vehicle comes equipped with three different types of filters – engine air filter, fuel filter and oil filter. Many vehicles also come equipped with a fourth type of filter – a cabin air filter. These filters are used to remove various sorts of contaminates from the air, fuel and oil entering your vehicle. This helps to protect the health of both your engine and the people in your vehicle. ENGINE AIR FILTER Air is drawn into your engine’s air filter where contaminates, such as dust and dirt, are removed. This purified air then mixes with fuel to power your vehicle. Cleaner air means better combustion which means better fuel efficiency and greater power. You should remove this filter regularly and clean it with an air hose. It should be replaced at least once

26

a year and more often if you drive a lot of gravel roads or through construction areas.

To keep your engine operating smoothly, you should change your oil filter whenever you get your oil changed.

FUEL FILTER

CABIN AIR FILTER

There are two types of fuel filters - one for gasoline vehicles, the other for diesels. Both filter out the impurities found in fuel. However, the diesel filter also removes water, which can do serious harm to diesel pumps and fuel injectors. Gasoline fuel filters never need to be changed, but diesel fuel filters must be replaced regularly.

Unlike the other filters, the cabin air filter is not concerned with your engine. Rather, it filters impurities in the air, like dust and pollen, keeping them from entering the interior of your vehicle through the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. It is of great help especially to those with allergies or respiratory problems. This filter should be changed annually.

OIL FILTER Oil cools your engine and keeps it running smoothly. As oil passes through your engine, it picks up little metal shavings from your engine’s many moving parts. These collect in the filter.

MOTORING

If your engine is slow to start, you are experiencing increased fuel consumption or you can hear a humming sound, you should check your filters and see if any need to be replaced.

EXPERT ADVICE

EXPERT ADVICE

ARE YOU CONSIDERING ADDING A PUPPY OR KITTEN TO YOUR FAMILY THIS YEAR? HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW!

I

t is important to do your research before making this commitment. Le a r n i n g about nutrition, vaccinations, deworming, neutering, microchipping, pet insurance and training are just some of the important things to know. Your veterinary clinic staff, breeder or pet rescue will be valuable resources. Vaccinations are always important even if your pet is kept indoors. Kittens and puppies should be vaccinated at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age, then again within one year. We recommend deworming at four weeks and every two weeks until they are old enough to get a broad spectrum de-wormer. If you adopt a pet that has already been vaccinated at a shelter or rescue, they have not been vaccinated for rabies. Neutering your pet is always a good decision. Surgical sterilization prevents unwanted litters, roaming and behavioral issues. It can even decrease your pet’s chances of getting certain types of cancer! The recommended age for neutering is 6-18 months depending on breed. A permanent way of identifying your pet is by placing a microchip the size of a grain of rice under your pet’s skin using a needle. Your pet is then registered in your name. If your pet is lost, anyone who finds it can have the microchip scanned and the pet returned safely to your home.

Choosing a puppy or kitten food can feel overwhelming with all the different choices. It is important when selecting a new food to take into consideration your pet’s breed, activity level, age and growth needs. Large breed puppies have particularly important growth needs and should always be fed a large breed puppy food. A chubby puppy may be cute, but the excess weight can be hazardous to it’s growing joints; all puppies should be kept lean throughout their growing period. No diet is right for every pet, and nutritional advice is always free. Stop by and talk with our staff and learn if Royal Canin or Hills diets are the right fit for your pet. Many of our staff have actually toured the pet food plant of Royal Canin and have seen firsthand the quality assurance that goes into their brand. Having a well behaved dog is almost as important as a healthy dog. Completing puppy obedience classes is the best way to achieve success. It is a great way to socialize your pet with other dogs, places and people. Socializing your pet at a young age will help prevent problems in the future, such as jumping and biting. PAHC and I offer a clicker training class for young dogs that is held several times throughout the year. This is a positive, fun way of learning and bonding with your pet. Pet insurance is a great way of protecting your new family member. There are many

options that can suit everyone’s budget. Starting when your pet is young is the best way to ensure you have peace of mind knowing that you are prepared for whatever trouble they find.

BUSINESS & INDUSTRY

Innovation and Technology in

AGRICULTURE By Jaime Johnson

As dawn breaks, a farmer engages auto steer on a GPS guided tractor and sits back while the machine begins the task of precisely placing seeds one inch deep in the ground. Down the road, a robotic milk machine is programmed to start the daily milking routine, while the rancher checks weather station field moisture gauges from his smart phone.

A

gricultural production has evolved significantly since the days of the horse and plow. Scientific discoveries and technological innovations have helped producers to be more effective, efficient and productive as they push for increased profits and yields. Without these advances, far more land would need to be

38

R eFined WEYBURN & AREA

cultivated or ranched to produce the food required today. According to the United Nations, nine billion people will need to be fed by 2050. In order to produce more with less in a sustainable manner, continuing innovation and adoption of new technologies in agriculture is imperative.

BUSINESS & INDUSTRY

With a changing climate, producers must contend with increased incidents of drought, pest infestation and depleted soil nutrients. Arable land per capita is decreasing while production costs are increasing. These challenges compel producers to maximize production on existing land. Now with technologies like GPS and field mapping, farmers are able to collect weather, soil and crop information to accurately determine fertilizer needs and pest, disease and irrigation requirements. This enables them to minimize quantities used and target specific areas, resulting in higher yields and decreased inputs. Self-steering automation in implements has improved seeding and harvest precision and efficiencies. Surveillance

and monitoring tools such as cameras and remote sensors enable farmers to see their operations from a better vantage point allowing for improved tracking and planning. Drone technology is being used for field mapping, surveying and spraying. Drones enable farmers to monitor crop and livestock conditions by air to find problems that might otherwise be missed. They are also capable of spraying crops with far more precision than a traditional tractor, which helps reduce costs and pesticide use. Innovations in biotechnology have increased the speed and precision with which scientists can improve food traits and production practices. In the past, farmers used time-consuming techniques such as grafting and

cross-breeding to obtain or eliminate specific genetic traits. Now, through biotechnology, plant and animal traits can be enhanced through gene manipulation. These changes offer several benefits to both farmers and consumers. Modified crops can have improved yield, pest resistance, drought tolerance, nutritional value, enhanced taste and storage life. Pasteurized milk, seedless grapes, disease resistant apples and trans-fat-free cooking oils are just a sample of foods that are a result of biotechnology. Advances in technology not only improve farming efficiencies, but also result in a softer environmental footprint than traditional practices. Farmers no longer have to blanket fields

BUSINESS & INDUSTRY

with fertilizers, pesticides or irrigation. Growing biotech crops and use of no or minimal till systems minimize soil erosion and reduce CO2 emissions. With improvements in genetics and nutrition, producers use substantially less water and land to produce the same volume of milk they did a century ago. Farmers have always been innovators, tinkering with machinery and production practices to contend with Mother Nature’s curve balls and improve their bottom line. It is this marriage of innovation, productivity and sustainability that defines agriculture and has empowered producers to feed the world.

Award-Winning Professionalism Serving Southern Saskatchewan By Tobie Hainstock

When growing up on the family farm at Lewvan, Jeff Farr became interested in flying. As he looks back, he tells of times when the busy farming operation needed an airplane for spraying. “Sometimes it would be hard to get access, so we bought a plane and hired a pilot to fly it,” notes Farr. In 2000, Farr became a pilot. Shortly after this, he worked with Transport Canada to become a commercial air operator and that’s when Farr Air came into fruition.

SAFETY IS NUMBER ONE

Today, Farr Air owns top-of-the-line aircraft equipped with the latest in technology for efficiency and safety. Their fleet of five planes features three Thrush 510P’s, one Thrush S-2R and one Weatherly 620B. They can service farms across southern Saskatchewan from runways located in Lewvan, Weyburn, Estevan, Fillmore, White City, Indian Head, Carlyle and Coronach. When providing spraying services to their clients, Farr points out that they make it a priority to deliver in a timely manner. “We believe in doing things right and on time,” he comments.

As a family business, safety is of the utmost importance to Farr Air. It’s crucial to them that their entire operation is managed efficiently and professionally. Farr can’t emphasize this point enough. “We strive for safety and professionalism all around. It’s our top priority. At the end of the day, I want all of my guys to make it home safely to their families.”

PRECISION

When it comes to spraying crops, being accurate with the delivery is vital. To ensure precision accuracy, every aircraft in Farr Air’s fleet is equipped with GPS guidance systems with flow control. Beyond this integral equipment, the Farr Air planes are also equipped with practically every upgrade on the market. Some of the upgrades assist with achieving high performance standards while others are about flight safety and helping the pilot do his job safely. The ASC Rotary nozzles are excellent for the coverage of fungicides and insecticides while the CP Flat Fan nozzles are used when applying pre-harvest glyphosate/ desiccation.

Because safety is so high on the list of priorities, the Farr Air team is highly trained. They operate safe, wellmaintained aircraft that meet very high calibration requirements. They are also trained in the proper usage of pesticides and other crop inputs. AWARD WINNING PROFESSIONALS

Farr and the team pride themselves in being integral professionals, who can be trusted by their customers. Not only is their positive attitude and hard work evident to the farmers they serve, it is also recognized by their peers. As members of the Canadian Aerial Application Association, Farr Air has recently received an award for their outstanding professionalism. “It’s truly an honour to be recognized by others in our industry. EXPERT ADVICE

TAX ADVICE

IT’S TAX TIME ALREADY!

I

t’s time to prepare your tax information to bring to your accountant. Your accountant requires many types of information to complete your taxes. Here is a helpful guide to the sometimes-confusing terminology used by accountants. GENERAL PREPARATION • Bank statements - If you have a bookkeeper, bring a copy of the year-end bank statement and your statement for the month following your year end. If your accountant does your bookkeeping, provide all your bank statements for the year. • Inventory – Provide a complete list of your inventory. This may include bushels of grain by types held in bins or a list of merchandise held for re-sale at fiscal year end. • Accounts receivables – This includes work performed prior to year end and payments not received until after year end. • Investment statements - Provide your broker with authorization to allow your accountant to contact them directly for the required information. Don’t forget to tell your accountant if you have an investment account and how much you have transferred from your business account! • Capital asset additions and disposals – This includes invoices for purchases or sale of vehicles, land, farming equipment, oil field equipment, etc. • Accounts payables – These are expenses incurred prior to the year end but not paid for until after the year end.

46

R eFined WEYBURN & AREA

• Credit cards - Provide credit card statements for the fiscal year and identify business expenses.

Personal income tax instalments – Due quarterly on March 15, June 15, Sept 15 and Dec 15.

• GST and PST - Provide the GST and PST reports you have submitted for the year.

ARE YOU READY?

• Loan statements - Provide any loan statements for the fiscal year as well as any new financing agreements. • Shareholder contributions - Identify any personal deposits you have made to your corporation, so they are not recorded as revenue. Otherwise, you may end up paying taxes on personal funds. • Grain revenue - Provide grain tickets for preparation of AgriInvest/AgriStability reports.

KEY DATES TO REMEMBER Corporate Income Tax Returns - Due six months after the year end. Corporate income taxes - Usually due three months after the year end, though there are some exceptions which accelerate this to two months after the year end.

If your information is organized, your accountant can prepare your required returns more efficiently. The above list is not all inclusive and every business is unique, if you have questions or concerns contact your Chartered Professional Accountant. Check List • Accounting data • Bank statements • Inventory • Accounts receivables • Investment statements • Capital asset additions and disposals • Deferred grain tickets • Accounts payables • Credit cards statements • GST and PST reports • Loans statements • Shareholder contributions • Grain tickets

Corporate income tax instalments – Due monthly. Dividend and Employee slips - Due by February 28 each year. Family Trust Returns - Due by March 31 each year. Testamentary Trust Returns - Usually due three months after the first anniversary of a death. Personal Income Tax Returns - Due April 30 each year. With business/farming income, there is an extension to June 15. Personal income taxes - Due April 30.

Here’s What Our Customers Are Saying. “We recently undertook a renovation of our kitchen, focusing on cabinets for more storage and an island for a larger work space. The Bevelled Edge was an obvious choice for countertops as they came highly recommended by friends and co-workers. The show room staff explained the different products in great detail. Once we settled on quartz, the Bevelled Edge staff went the extra mile to secure slabs and help us source sinks and faucets. We love our kitchen, and we love entertaining on our new island top!”

CREATING THE PERFECT

‘Haven within Your Home’ By Tonya Lambert

AT HOME

The baby’s crying; the kids need a ride to piano, dance, hockey. The food on the stove has boiled over. The lawn needs to be mowed. Your boss is constantly emailing you one more project to complete before the morning. Sound familiar? Similar scenarios play out every day in homes across the country. It is no wonder so many of us daydream of escaping somewhere.

S

o what do you do when it seems like everywhere you turn, you run into someone else needing something done, another chore or project that demands your attention? Increasingly, couples are choosing to build dedicated havens within their homes – a man cave for him and a woman cave for her. You can turn any space in your home or yard into a (wo)man cave – a spare room, the basement, a shed, the garage. The important thing is that it is a space that you control, a place where you can retreat and take refuge from the stressors in your life – for an hour, an evening, a day. Turning all or part of the garage into your very own recreational retreat is probably the most popular choice. There is plenty of space, and it is already somewhat separated from the rest of the house. To turn your garage into a (wo)man cave, follow these steps. 1. Start by cleaning out your garage – sorting, organizing and scrubbing. You may need to find a new storage space or get rid of some things. 2. Insulate the walls, if necessary. 3. Paint the walls. Choose a colour that meets your needs. Do you need a soothing colour to help destress? Perhaps an invigorating colour to help restore your energy? 4. Finish the floor. Concrete floors are perfect for a nohassles haven. They are easily customizable: choose either a natural-looking stamped finish or a slicklooking polish, an eye-catching stencil, a distinctive mottled look or your favourite colour. All are very cost-effective, long lasting and low maintenance, not to mention free of dust, mold or allergens. 5. Consider your needs. What will you do in your retreat? It could be a hobby haven, a home theatre hideaway or a sports sanctuary. Knowing this will help you when choosing light fixtures, furniture and decorations. Common things to find in a (wo) man cave are a large-screen TV, a gaming system, a stereo, a computer, a comfy couch and a bar. Other things you may want to include are a pool table or foosball table, a poker table, a dart board, a crafting station or a woodworking bench. Surround sound, streaming devices and soundproofing are popular tech trends. There has also been a move from a simple fridge to a full bar, kitchenette or even an attached outdoor kitchen. Custom cabinetry will be a must. It is becoming popular to hire an interior decorator to create the perfect look. 6. Lastly, install a security system to protect your precious place.

EXPERT ADVICE

EXPERT ADVICE

CONDENSATION CONCERNS

W

ater or frost on windows is condensation. Condensation is formed when warm moist air comes in contact with cooler dry air. An example is when a bathroom mirror “steams up” after a hot shower. Just like that mirror, the inside or outside of your window can sweat or fog because of temperature differentials. Glass is usually the first place you notice condensation because glass surfaces have the lowest temperature of any surface in a house. If you didn’t have as much condensation before replacing your old windows, it’s probably because they were drafty. Modern energy-efficient windows and new framing techniques with insulation and full caulking around the perimeter create barriers to the air exchange of a home. When combined with the additional water vapor (moisture) from showers, cooking or from clothes dryers lacking external ventilation, the result is excess moisture and a high relative indoor humidity level.

CAUSES OF CONDENSATION: • Poor Air Circulation – Where there is poor circulation of warm air, condensation builds up on windows as the inside glass surface is colder than in other parts of the house. • Drapes - Drawing heavy drapes over a window or patio door increases the possibility of condensation by restricting the flow of warm air.

54

R eFined WEYBURN & AREA

• Interior Blinds or Shutters - Insulating interior blinds or shutters contribute to condensation problems by trapping moist indoor air between them and the window. • Varying Humidity Levels - Some rooms, such as kitchens and bathrooms, have higher humidity levels than other areas of the home, thus encouraging condensation to form on the windows in these rooms. • Exposure - If windows are exposed to prevailing winds, they will be slightly colder than the other windows in the home, causing condensation to form. HOW CAN CONDENSATION BE REDUCED?

The key lies in controlling the humidity inside your home. Moisture collects in the home during the hot, humid summer months or during construction and remodeling. When you start to heat your home at the beginning of winter, condensation occurs. This lessens after a few weeks as your home begins to dry.

WHEN SHOULD I BE CONCERNED?

Window condensation should only occur when there are extreme temperature differences between indoor and outdoor spaces. The amount of water should be fairly small and appear on the inside of windows during winter months and the outside during summer months. If you find condensation between the two layers of glass in an insulated window, the airtight seal has probably been broken and the glass will need to be replaced. Signs of too much moisture in the home include moisture spots on the ceiling or walls, peeling paint, rotting wood, delaminating plywood, moisture on exterior walls and fungus, mold or mildew growth are signs of a more serious moisture problem. Should you experience these symptoms, you should contact an expert heating and cooling contractor.

Other ways to reduce condensation include: • Crack open a window or door daily to air out your house. • Open a window or run exhaust fans longer in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry room. • Open drapes and blinds, allowing air to circulate against windows. • Turn off any humidifying devices. • Use a dehumidifier.

The Tunnels of Moose Jaw In the early 1900s, a network of tunnels was built beneath the buildings and streets of the city’s downtown core to help with the running of local boiler rooms. Later, during the Prohibition Era, American gangsters turned the tunnels into gambling dens and liquor storerooms. Explore the incredibly interesting and intriguing Tunnels of Moose Jaw in two tours: Passage to Fortune and Chicago Connections.

dill. “We will show you how you can bring unbelievable flavour to your palette in a healthier way without giving up any of your favourites,” says Charmaine. “We can satisfy all your cravings for great taste!” Along with their olive oils, OLiV also provides many flavours of delectable balsamic vinegars. OLiV imports its world-class balsamic vinegars in bulk directly from Modena, Italy, and then flavours them locally. This includes flavours such as chocolate raspberry, fig, garlic cilantro, black walnut and many others. As part of their balsamic selection, OLiV also stocks fifteen white balsamics, which Charmaine says are excellent for use in Asian dishes as they allow you to retain the vibrant colours in your food. Guests can also sample OLiV’s trademarked Balsamic Blast beverage made up of carbonated water and balsamic vinegar. As Charmaine points out, people often associate balsamic with salad dressings, but the product is far more versatile. “You can use balsamic in Greek yogurt, smoothies, ice cream — it’s like a high-end dessert,” she says. To showcase the product’s versatility, let the team show you how easy it is to change a healthy snack (air-popped popcorn) into many healthy, tasty flavours by adding different flavoured olive oils. “If you REALLY want butter on your popcorn, we have you covered!” laughs Charmaine. OLiV Moose Jaw even stocks butter-flavoured Extra Virgin Olive Oil! “Now there’s a heart-healthy alternative for you!” Extra virgin olive oil is high in unsaturated fats, promoting good cholesterol and lowering bad cholesterol. Studies have

linked it to cell rejuvenation as well as improvements in diabetes and blood pressure. A natural healing product, it was used historically for everything from diaper rash to sunburns to skin exfoliation (when mixed with brown sugar). Charmaine says she enjoys providing her guests with a healthy cooking option that is seemingly limitless with recipe possibilities. OLiV Tasting Room has become a tourist destination in Moose Jaw with tour groups booked in advance to visit. “We don’t sell the product; the product sells itself. We sell the experience,” says Charmaine. As for local guests, with so many pairing options of the various oils and vinegars, the tasting adventure is always new. “Every time you come in,” says Charmaine, “your experience will change. What will remain the same is our dedication to customer service and world-class quality!”
