The Sound of Music 6ONJTTBCMF GBNJMZ USFBU UNTIL SUN 16 SepT ‘The Sound of Music’ is quite simply one of the most popular musicals of all time. As their final collaboration Rodgers and Hammerstein have created a true classic of musical theatre based on the heartwarming, true story of the Trapp Family Singers. Maria, a young nun in an Austrian convent regularly misses her morning prayers preferring to go to the hills to sing. Deciding that Maria is too high spirited and needs to learn something about the real world before she can take her vows, the Mother Superior dispatches her to serve as a governess for the children of the widowed Captain Von Trapp. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s unforgettable score delivers

some of the most memorable songs ever written for the musical stage including ‘Edelweiss’, ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’ ‘Do-ReMi’ and, of course, the title song. ‘The Sound of Music’ originally opened on Broadway in November 1959 and since then has gone on to touch the hearts of all ages around the world. Uplifting , fun yet always moving ‘The Sound of Music’ is an unmissable treat for all the family. The SOUNd Of MUSIc runs until 16th September. WeD 19 SePTemBer The defining voice of contemporary English Folk Music, Kate Rusby’s exquisite interpretations of Traditional songs and finely wrought self-penned tunes have won her an audience that reaches beyond the genre. A rare achievement for a folk artist but entirely understandable given Rusby’s expressive vocals that invest whatever she sings with irresistible emotional depth. 2012 heralds a landmark year for Kate, being her 20th year in

the music industry. After a quiet first half of the year concentrating on recording her exciting new album entitled ‘Twenty’ (due for release in Autumn) featuring special guests to celebrate this anniversary, and taking a little time out for the arrival of her second child, Kate will begin touring again in late Summer. These concerts will echo the sentiments of ‘Twenty’ revisiting some old favourites with new ideas along with a sprinkling of much loved classics from her

back catalogue. As ever, Kate will be joined on stage by the brilliantly talented musicians who form part of her band. Damien O’Kane on guitar, tenor guitar and banjo, Kevin McGuire on double bass, Edmund boyd on guitar and bouzouki and Julian Sutton on melodeon

ART AND CULTURE NEAR YOU...

Bewitched. 8JUDI USJBMT FYQMPSFE JO /PSUIBNQUPO UNTIL 23 SEPTEMBER In 1612 five witches were executed in Northampton after being convicted at the Lent Assizes for witchcraft of various kinds, from murder to bewitching pigs.

There are various accounts of these trials, but they differ on how many witches there were, who they were and what they were supposed to have done. The Northamptonshire witch trials are of particular

significance as they are among the earliest documented cases in which the water ordeal method was used to test witches. This exhibition examines the trials and their wider context.

‘1612: Northampton witch trials’ is showing at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery until 23 September. Opening times are Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 2pm to 5pm. Admission is free. Northampton Museum and Art Gallery, Guildhall Rd, Northampton, NN1 1DP

LBE - a new way to network 5IF MBOETDBQF IBT CFFO SFESBXO TP BT B TNBMM CVTJOFTT ZPV OFFE UP CF B QBSU PG JU Leicester Business Event (LBE12) is the area’s largest B2B Trade show - with business advice, seminars, Speed Networking and workshops – and, for the sixth consecutive year, the event is again being sponsored by the Leicester Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Businesses. This free to attend event is not to be missed and will be held on the 11th October at the King Power Stadium home to Leicester City Football Club. New for the 2012 LBE is Business Connections – a new kind of networking. Long before twitter and Facebook became the norm, networking existed as an unfeigned socioeconomic activity, whereby businesspeople would exchange ideas, create contacts and act upon business opportunities - all with no help from a computer. Networking used to mean lunch with prospective clients. Now, the introduction of online networking sites means you needn’t leave the office. Online social networking has changed the way we do business. Everyone has a platform, a voice - a way to communicate with other like-minded businesspeople. Be it Linked In, Facebook or Twitter, social networking sites provide invaluable exposure to contacts, potential clients and investors.

WOW September 2012

The landscape has been redrawn, so as a small business, you need to be a part of it. With this in mind, nowadays, all too often your business cards will end up tucked away within the dark recesses of a wallet or back pocket, never to see the light of day again, not doing much for your business! So, as a solution to this age-old business problem, the Leicester Business Event has built a networking wall and it works like this: 1. Jot down what your business is looking for (a web designer, a sales team, an office space etc) 2. Pin it to the Business Connections wall, along with your business card. 3. Come back at the end of the day to collect all the other cards pinned to yours.

That’s it. Now you have contacts of the people and companies who can help provide whatever it is your business is looking for. Of course, the system works both ways, so if you see a business that may like your help, pin your card to theirs and pick up some extra clients! So there you are a chance to finally put that shiny new business card to work.

The LBE is a great place to do business and you can exhibit at the event and promote your business or organisation from just £300. Sponsorship packages start from £1000. For more information call Elaine on 0116 240 2330 or visit the web site leicesterbusinessevents.co.uk
