F70C{B >= 5 Nov - 10 Nov THIS HAPPY BREED

This funny, touching, truthful play, written in the late 1930s, looks at the lives of the working class Gibbons family in the 20 years between the two World Wars. Frank Gibbons, newly back from the trenches in France, and his wife Ethel, move their family into a new home in Clapham to bring up their three children in a country coming to terms with peace. This is not the brittle, sophisticated Coward of Private Lives, but a deeper, more concerned playwright, picturing with affection the lot of the ordinary man. www.thelittletheatre.net 6 Nov – 10 Nov ‘TIS PITY SHE’S A WHORE ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore embarks on a national tour this autumn to the newly refurbished Bristol Old Vic and Nottingham Theatre Royal. This will be the first time the company has played at Bristol Old Vic, and a welcome return to Nottingham, following the success of last year’s Three Sisters. If you’ve ever loved and lost... :PV NVTU TFF UIJT UNTIL SAT NOV 10 Looking Glass Theatre’s adaption of Emily Bronte’s tragic love story is exceptional. From the opening scene, as Mr Lockwood (David Heathcote) arrives at Wuthering Heights, you are instantly transported back to life in the 18th Century on a freezing night on the Yorkshire Moors. The setting is so intimate and the acting so believable you will forget this is a work of fiction and feel you are witnessing for the first time a tragic tale unfold of love lost and revenge. Larry Stubbings portrayal of the vengeful Heathcliff is perfectly dark and powerful, and at points frightening. We are soon to meet Nelly (brilliantly performed by Alexandra Rex), the intelligent and compassionate servant who acts as storyteller throughout the play and of course we meet our heroine and Heathcliff’s love, the free spirited and beautiful Cathy (with an incredibly emotional performance by Victoria Haines). As the story unfolds we meet the rest of the cast (Tim Cole, Maria Lovelady and David Heathcote) and are plunged into a world of mixed emotion, love, hate, revenge and despair. Farm Boy " UBMF GSPN UIF DPVOUSZTJEF THUR 15 NOVEMBER It sometimes felt as though time had stood still on the family farm – swallows nesting in the eaves, the old Fordson Tractor quietly rusting in the back of the barn, Grandpa still tending his chickens – that is, until the summer his grandson finished school and came to stay, and the old man started telling stories of what it had been like on the farm when he was a boy. The compelling sequel to the award-winning War Horse is a moving account of the changing face of the English countryside and a beautifullycrafted reminder that stories really can reach out across the generations. Following criticallyacclaimed runs at both the

2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the 2011 Brits Off Broadway Festival in New York, plus a hugely successful UK tour, this magical tale of the bonds linking grandfather to grandson and ultimately both to the land has once more been brought to life. OH YES WE DO!

Cinderella "U UIF 3PZBM %FSOHBUF FRI 07 DEC - SUN 06 JAN Cheeky comic Bobby Davro and much-loved actress and presenter Denise Welch star in Cinderella, this year’s magical Christmas pantomime at Royal & Derngate, from Friday 7 December to Sunday 6 January. Bobby returns to Northampton by popular demand, following the rapturous reception

for his hilarious performance in last year’s panto. A man of many talents – comedian, impressionist, game-show host and actor – he soared to fame in the 1980s with TV shows such as Bobby Davro on The Box and Bobby’s Sketch Pad, before joining the BBC to make Rock with Laughter among other hugely popular shows.

He made his straight acting debut in EastEnders as the loveable rogue Vinnie Monks, and has also appeared on Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Dancing On Ice. The story of Cinderella wouldn’t be complete without two Ugly Sisters, and they don’t come any uglier than Dar-

ren Southworth and Andy Brady, who will be delighting audiences with their outrageous antics. With beautiful sets, lavish costumes, and real Shetland ponies to take Cinders to the ball, this year’s panto promises festive enchantment for all the family. CINDERELLA runs at Royal & Derngate from Fri 07 Dec - Sun 06 Jan Tickets can be booked on 01604 624811 or www.royalandderngate.co.uk.
