NORTHWEST COAST The further westward visitors travel in Tasmania, the more remote things become and one gets the impression that, that’s just the way the locals like it. From Launceston, a short two and half hour drive due west brings one up into the high country of Cradle Mountain National Park.

into four ascending temple halls. While most will make their way steadily up towards the topmost hall, Baoguo’s main hall is at the second tier, where the huge Buddha Sakyamuni sits impressively on his lotus throne, flanked

by Buddha’s eighteen disciples in the two side rooms.

Located at the mountain’s midsection, Wannian Temple (万年寺) is accessible after a seven-minute cable car ride and then up a solitary stairway that leads to the temple grounds. Only that it isn’t just any stairway – it is a 223-step stairway, which no doubt only the deeply pious and determined will think nothing of. The temple’s main attraction, a 7.85 metre statue of Bodhissattva Puxian (also known as Samantabhadra) riding on a sixtusked white elephant weighing a staggering 62 tonnes, is housed in the temple’s Dome Hall, and was built in honour of Mount Emei’s patron saint.

hen people mention Chengdu, the image of Sichuan peppers and cute pandas come immediately to mind. Look beyond that, and you’ll find so much more – glorious scenery that brings peace of mind, friendly locals who’ll gladly impart the art of drinking Chinese tea, and pious believers who’ll journey tirelessly to ancient temples to thank the Gods for another good year.

FACE OF PEACE Located east of Leshan City and about a two-hour ride from Chengdu, the Giant Buddha of Leshan (乐山大佛) is affectionately called Dafo in Chinese. It’s exactly what its name claims – the largest Buddha in the world at a staggering 71 metres, with shoulders measuring 28 metres wide, each eyebrow stretching 5.5 metres across, and his smallest toenail capable of accommodating a full-grown adult seated down.

It is said to be the brainchild of a Chinese monk named Haitong who lived in the 8th century. Haitong had hoped that the presence of the Buddha would calm the turbulent waters that plagued the shipping vessels traversing the area. The project was colossal – Dafo would take 90 years to complete, workers carved the entire statue out of the Xiluo Peak of

Mount Lingyun. Eventually, Haitong’s plan worked, though not entirely for its supernatural reasoning, but also due to the enormous amount of rubble deposited in the river from the carvings, thus altering currents and calming the waters.

Devout Buddhist followers and photography fans visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site faithfully, many offering silent prayers as they bow before the seated Maitreya Buddha.

Photo opportunities are aplenty; either at a terrace next to his ear, or down a winding stairway to the mountain bottom where his feet are. Don’t be surprised if you see people taking eons just to get their photo angle right – whether it’s smoothing Dafo’s hair or touching his ears – for these are supposed ways for longevity and good luck.

You can’t say you’ve been to Chengdu, if you haven’t had a shot at Sichuan cuisine – or specifically, a dish that has Sichuan peppers in it. An important flavouring in local fare, these peppercorns give Sichuan food its distinctive spicy flavour. Popular dishes include the famous Sichuan mala hotpot and mapo tofu (silky tofu in hot sauce).

As the birthplace of one of China’s four major cooking styles, Chengdu is also bursting with food options galore, earning its reputation as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy – Asia’s first and only city to be awarded with this honour. More than just spices, Sichuan cuisine is also sour, sweet and salty; using a good mix of soy sauce, vinegar, fermented soy beans and hot pickled mustard greens.

Meats like poultry and beef make regular appearances more so than seafood: think signature dishes such as ginko in stewed chicken (白果炖鸡), twice-cooked pork (回锅 肉), and kung pao chicken (宫保鸡丁).

TEMPLES ON A MOUNT

Directly opposite the Giant Buddha is the beautiful Mount Emei (峨眉山). Meaning ‘delicate eyebrow’, Mount Emei derives its name from its two peaks – Wanfo (Ten Thousand Buddha) Summit and Golden Summit, which put together resembles the delicate eyebrows of a Chinese beauty. A UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Leshan scenic area, Mount Emei carries with it an utmost religious significance, since this is where China’s first Buddhist temple was built atop the Golden Summit, the religion brought forth via the Silk Road from India in the 1st century AD. At the base of Mount Emei sits Baoguo Temple (报国 寺). Built during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), the site was previously named Huizong Hall, which symbolises the combination of three religions: Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. Later, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) ordered for a name change to Baoguo Temple, which literally translates to ‘dedication to one’s country’, since the Buddhist doctrine believes this to be the foremost calling of a believer.

Baoguo Temple is a popular pilgrimage site for Buddhist followers, and the ‘must-go’ temple to visit should tourists not wish to take the five kilometres hike to the top of Mount Emei (about 10 hours on foot). As the largest temple on Mount Emei, the complex is divided

Located in Hongya County, LiuJiang Old Town(柳江古 镇) looks somewhat like a beautiful oil painting – traditional Chinese garden-styled residences, gently flowing brooks, quaint teahouses and gorgeous mountain scenery stretching for miles and miles. Before China’s Liberation in 1949, the town was dominated mainly by a few wealthy households, of which Zeng Jia Yuan (Zeng’s Family Garden /曾家园) is the best-preserved, and the only one open to visitors now. Dating back to 1927, the site took 10 years to build. The Zengs allocated specific pavilions for tea and chess sessions, a courtyard for hosting seasonal performances, and another one for their sleeping quarters.

Fast forward to the present, LiuJiang Old Town now has a population of about 4,000, with a soothingly relaxed pace of life, and commercialisation has thankfully not completely seeped in yet. It’s common to see friendly locals standing by their doors smiling invitingly, laughing kids and adults challenging obstacles at the town’s water play area, wizened old men bent over their game of chess at a teahouse, or housewives washing clothes along the river’s ‘dominolooking’ bridge – made simply by lining paving stones across one end to the other.

Treasure Island

With its powder-soft and pearl-white shores, Boracay Island is where the rich, beautiful and famous across the globe gather to grab a slice of action under the sun chilling out. The beach, named after the puka shell that gets made into jewellery sold on the island, is one of the stops along a sailing trip round the island. Although there are less stalls and vendors here, you can still enjoy a delightful meal at one of the beachfront restaurants.

Try Puka Grande, which serves delicacies such as sweet and sour fish, barbecued chicken and garlic rice.

Near to Puka Beach is the Bat Cave. Take a short hike through the forest, after which you will arrive at the mouth of the cave, which drops down at a very steep angle.

It is extremely slippery and dangerous, so a local guide is recommended. Those who make it inside the cave,

irst-timers to Boracay Island in the Philippines should be forgiven for thinking that it is a place for only the young, beautiful and famous. One can tell from how, even while one is up in the air on the plane, the island gradually emerges on the horizon like a butterfly at rest. Even with its diminutive proportions – the island measures seven kilometres long and one kilometre wide at its narrowest point – Boracay has seduced throngs of holidaymakers from the world over, many returning year after year. Framed by an endless stretch of soft ivory-hued sand that leads into the calm, crystalline waters, the island has earned a reputation for being a hip hangout for the young and trendy, celebrities and those in the know.

Located at the north-western tip of Panay in Western Visayas, off the Sibuyan Sea, Boracay is part of Aklan, the oldest province in the Philippines. The island is made up of three cosy communitiies: Yapak in the north, Balabag in the middle and Manoc-Manoc in the south.

Boracay remained a national secret until the 1970s, when a foreign film crew stumbled upon it and started spreading the word. Others attribute its popularity to the rave reviews by German travel writer Jen Peters. Either way, it would have been impossible to keep mum about the pristine allure of Boracay.

WHITE HOT Boracay’s main attraction is White Beach, which faces the turquoise waters of Sulu Sea. Hailed the “best beach in the world”, it boasts four kilometres of sand so soft, fine and bright, it’s been likened to treading on talcumpowder. Sun-worshippers can partake in a variety of activities. Adventurous types can get in on the action with adrenaline-pumping options such as windsurfing, kiteboarding and banana boat-riding. Those who want to get up close and personal with the diverse marine life can jump in the crystal waters for some snorkelling, sail away to a nearby island on a paraw (a local outrigger boat) or cut through the waves on a hobie-cat.

Meanwhile, the lazy can lie back for a snooze or simply sunbathe. Most congregate at Central Boracay (which is serviced by three boat stations), where many resorts, restaurants, sea-sports centres and shops are found. There are also a myriad of stalls offering massage, hair-braiding and henna body art services, among others.

This is possibly where Boracay received its reputation as a playground for the good-looking - the palmstudded pathway perpetually spills over with attractive folks flaunting their picture-perfect abs and biceps, supermodel-slim bikini-clad silhouettes or an eyecatching tattoo.

THRILLS TO TARRY AT Those who prefer to be far from the maddening crowd, however, can pop over to Bulabog Beach.

Located parallel to White Beach on the eastern end of Boracay, it is fronted by a coral reef sited 500 metres off-shore. A popular spot for windsurfing and kiteboarding, it is less developed than White Beach, and therefore evokes the nostalgia of the former Boracay. Beach-goers are also found at Puka Beach. Located at the northern end of Boracay Main Road, it is quieter than White Beach, and recommended for

Spend a day aboard a paraw boat and set off to visit islands such as Crystal Cove. Formerly known as Tiguatian Island, named after the chirping sound of the bird found only here, it is a 20-minute journey from Boracay. Venture down to explore the two caves, where you can dive in for a spot of snorkelling. Shutterbugs can also take the opportunity to flash away, especially since the beach overlooks the South China Sea and, in the distance, Boracay.

Other stops during the regular island-hopping itinerary include Crocodile Island. The island, shaped like the reptile, is a favourite site among divers. The waters here are filled with a vibrant mix of marine life, ranging from Scorpion fish and Gorgonian fan coral to Moray eels.

Stunning Sarawak ADVENTURE – BY LAND AND SEA If you’re up for some trekking then the Head Hunter’s Trail, Sarawak’s highly acclaimed trail that traces the route of the ancient Kayan tribesmen who traversed valleys, hills and rivers, is definitely worth it. Make a stop at Camp Five and climb Gunung Api (Fire Mountain) to the pinnacle, which reaches the sky at an amazing 2,377 metres. If you’re searching for a ‘cool trail’, then head for Kelabit Highlands, aptly known as Sarawak’s ‘heaven’. The main town of Bario is 1,000 metres above sea level, and is flanked by Mount Murud (2,454 metres) and Batu Lawi (2,043 metres), which is more challenging. Treks vary in length; some last up to seven days and cross into Kalimantan (Indonesia).

In contrast, the Mount Santubong Summit Trek is recommended only for the fit and agile.

O

ne of two Malaysian states on the island of Borneo, Sarawak is home to 28 ethnic groups – each with its own distinct language, culture and lifestyle. With an area of 124,449.51 square kilometres, Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia, making up some 37.5 percent of the country’s total area.

The Ibans form the major ethnic group on this land, with the Chinese being the second largest group at 26.7 percent, followed by the Bidayuh, Melanau and other native tribes of Sarawak. The Malays also constitute a large portion (23 percent) of the population as well, mainly concentrated along the coast.

NATURE Sarawak is a nature lover’s dream destination with its protected national parks and ancient rainforests filled with caves, cascading waterfalls, pristine beaches and exotic wildlife. There are eleven National Parks and two Wildlife Centres, which contain the largest cave, chamber in the world, longest canopy skywalk and spectacular natural limestone formation. Bako National Park – the state’s oldest – is 37 kilometres from Kuching and a short ferry ride across Sungai Santubong. Things to do here include bird watching, caving, jungle trekking, photography, rock climbing, snorkelling, sunbathing and swimming.

The Mulu National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that will take your breath away. Gunung Mulu has it all – the most extensive cave system with razor sharp limestone pinnacles where you can watch the exodus of millions of bats from the dim caverns at dusk.

Another worth a mention is the Niah National Park where, over 40,000 years ago, prehistoric men inhabited the Niah Great Caves. Paleolithic artefacts and Neolithic paintings can be found at ancient burial sites dated as far back as 42,000 years.

Another excursion that must be experienced is a visit to Pulau Talang and Pulau Satang National Parks. These two islands are turtle sanctuaries and between May and October, green turtles come ashore to lay and bury their eggs. Pulau Satang Besar is open to the public while visits to Talang-Talang Islands require special permits.

Located near the town of Bau, just 40 minutes from Kuching, are the Fairy Caves from which you can try rock climbing and abseiling. Another activity for the adventurous is caving which, while demanding, requires reasonable mental and physical fitness.

Get wet and wild as you squeeze through rocks and boulders, swim through subterranean streams and get covered in mud.

For mountain bike enthusiasts, Sarawak is an ideal destination. There are annual mountain bike competitions such as the Rainforest Cup, which is held in Kuching at the nearby beach resort of Damai, and the Battle of Borneo at Mulu.

Jet skiing, paragliding, windsurfing or sailing the turquoise waters off the coast of Sarawak are definite musts if you enjoy water sports. There is also diving

available and many sites remain unexplored. This is one of Sarawak’s best-kept secrets and many sites rival that of Sipadan in Malaysia and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Current popular dive sites are off Miri – the Luconia Shoals (by live aboard), Tukau Drop Off, Siwa Reefs, Eve’s Garden, Santak Point, Kenyalang Rig, Sri Gadong wreck and many others.

ENTERTAINMENT & RESTAURANTS Steeped in rich cultural heritage, the colourful ethnic tribes in Sarawak celebrate a potpourri of events and festivals throughout the year. However, a feature common to all festivals in Sarawak is the open house tradition, where friends, relatives and strangers drop by homes and are welcomed with a huge spread of special food and drinks appropriate for the event.

For visitors there are a number of excellent restaurants, cafes, bars and other entertainment hotspots to visit.

CUISINE Due to the diversity of Sarawak’s population there is a wide range of culinary specialties available. The Sarawak laksa is undoubtedly the most popular dish in Kuching and consists of prawn sambal (chilli) paste, coconut milk, thin vermicelli noodles (mee hoon), egg and chicken strips, prawns, coriander and lime juice.

In more-touristy places, tofu, bean sprouts or other seafood might be added to your laksa.

Another signature dish is Kolo Mee, a dry-tossed noodle dish that is one of the locals’ favourites, being sold on nearly every street corner. Lard, yellow egg noodles, minced pork or beef, and BBQ strips of pork dominate this specialty, together with vegetables, black vinegar, shallots, garlic and chillies. The Iban-style dishes involve cooking in a bamboo stem over an open fire, and meat, fish, vegetables, rice and spices are cooked inside the bamboo to create a special aroma and texture. Others include the Mee Sua Chicken, originally from the Sibu region, which consists of thin rice noodles, chicken, and ginger stewed in red wine, and the Midin, a nutritious, crispy jungle fern which is usually stir-fried with shrimp paste or anchovies for its typical salty and savoury taste. Used as a side dish, this fern perfectly compliments other main dishes such as seafood, fish or meat.

SHOPPING Like most states in Malaysia, there is no shortage of shopping centres, hypermarkets, markets and other retail outlets. Some souvenirs to take home include pottery, textiles, beads, bamboo, rattan, salted Terubok fish, Bario rice and Sarawak pepper.

Sarawak pepper has gained international recognition by chefs and gourmets as one of the best pepper due to its distinctive flavour and taste perfected through years of government-funded agro-research. Today, with the advancement of technology, there’s more variance in pepper produce like pepper candies and pepper perfume. Sarawak’s all-time favourite and very unique souvenir craze is the Salted Terubok (American Shad) Fish. One of the seafood favourites in Sarawak, Terubok is full of bones but tasty nevertheless, so the trick of the trade is to find the biggest Terubok fish as the bones are larger and easier to dispose of. Also available is the

Terubok egg, which costs around RM200 per kg.

The ‘Orang Ulu’ and natives regard Bario Rice as the finest and best rice from the highlands of Sarawak.

It is grown in cool climates at an elevation above 1,200 metres and has long been regarded as one of the finest rice grains in the world, famous for its soft texture and fine and elongated grains with mild aromas. The rice is home-grown and planted and harvested by hand using age-old traditional methods – i.e. no pesticides and chemical fertilizers. And within these two regions are the most welcoming of people, delectable cuisine and some of the most enticing sceneries.

PIGGING OUT IN PENGHU It is already late in the afternoon when my domestic flight touches down at Magong Airport. Knowing that we haven’t got much time left, my guide and I hop into the van just as the driver exclaims: “We are running out of light!” I come to understand what he means as we approach Xiying Rainbow Bridge. The view is simply breathtaking. The golden sky shimmers in the evening heat, as a gentle breeze blows from the offshore.

Silhouettes of people dot the bridge like little shadow puppets dancing against a stream of light. As the sun creeps down faster than a sunny-side up can be cooked, it is time to tackle some of Penghu’s notable delicacies.

I find myself seated in a most ordinary Chinese restaurant set with big round tables – the Chinese believe that such seating order encourages the kneading of relationships. Glass panels from ceiling to floor reveal a splendid view of golden sunset along the coastline, and diners find pleasure in viewing the transition that nature has so wittily presented. However, what seems more enticing is the food.

“Penghu has the freshest seafood in Taiwan”, claims Mr Chang, director of Penghu National Scenic Area Administration, who wears a permanent smile on a face weathered with experience. It appears to be indisputably true. Even a simple dish of steamed fish with minimal seasoning tastes as though it was brought freshly out from the sea minutes ago. Dish after dish of fresh prawns,

Penghu and Yilan are set to leave a lasting impression in the hearts of the travellers who traverse through its dynamic landscapes large red crabs and slices of juicy sea urchins are served, and soon a simple dinner turns into an extravagant feast.

The night market at downtown Magong sees streams of people strolling along its open pavements, some bargaining for a better price of a straw hat (which proves to be very useful in this summer heat), others queuing up for a bowl of multi-coloured cactus shaved ice topped with a dozen other ingredients. As a delicacy

astonishingly famous in Penghu, cactus snacks can be found in various forms, from cactus ice cream to crackers and jelly.

Modern donut shops, local pastry outlets, quaint accessories stores line up side by side. Chairs and tables spill out on the pavement outside coffee shops with young adolescents nestling a cup of ice coffee in the humid evening.

As I check out of the hotel the next morning, my guide suggests that we pay a visit to the Breakfast Street, adding that “just the breakfast snacks there are enough to keep you bloated for the rest of the day”.

Before me are two neat rows of double-storey old buildings that stretch a few hundred metres down. The scent of fried dough fritters gusts towards me, sending an immediate rumble in my empty stomach. The lady frying the dough fritters flinches as I raise my camera. “No face please”, she demands as she skillfully turns a long dough fritter over in a hot wok of oil. I’m gobsmacked by its size – double the length of the normal ones I usually see. Size does matter, after all. An array of Chinese breakfast snacks can be found in this street where people stroll around with fresh soybean drink in one hand and huge, pearl-white bun in another.

Barely finishing up our breakfast adventure and I’m already in the van proceeding to South Sea Visitor Centre down at the fishing port. About 30 minutes out in the sea I arrive at a structure raised above sea level.

“Penghu Oceanic Pasture”, the guide introduces, “right here, you can find nothing but the freshest oysters”.

Never a fan of seafood, I’m a little apprehensive. Fresh oysters caught straight out of the water are delivered to our mini barbeque pit. The shades of grey and white seem unappealing at first, but once it cracks open

EARTHLY YILAN Just 50 minutes on a domestic flight and I’m back to Taipei.

The journey continues on, passing the hustling Taipei and into the beautiful Yilan County, northeast of Taiwan.

A short ride down to Fulong has me hyped up for a cycling expedition at the Old Caoling Bikeway Tunnel.

This tunnel was built in 1924 during the Japanese colonial period and was the longest tunnel of that time in Taiwan. Once an important railway, it now is a cycling trail

under the charcoal fire, its pearl-white flesh sizzles in the tiny pool of salt water within. Once extracted from its shell, it’s recommended to dip in soy sauce mixed with Japanese wasabi, and honest as day, it tastes beyond good, even for me.

The prospect of a less choppy platform holds more appeals after a 20 minutes ferry ride back to the port. I venture on to discover some of the great rock formations in Penghu. One example is the Siaomen Whale Cave, which is much eroded by sea waves and what’s left of the basalt cliff looks like a beached whale, where its name is derived from.

for tourists and those who fancy a windy and historical cycling session in this two-kilometre long tunnel.

A deserving meal after the workout session is especially desirable as I stop over at Toucheng Farm for lunch. Other than having a host of farm-stay facilities and educational packages, this farm is also home to Cangjiu Winery, a rather young winery but with an impressive collection of wines made from fruits, wheat and milk.

Beside the winery stands a classy restaurant that serves Chinese and Western fusion cuisine. The barbeque salmon and fried chicken with pepper and fagara deserve two thumbs up, and plenty of other fingers if possible.

Vegetarian meals are available here too, and vegetables are guaranteed to be organic.

The farm’s owner, a kind looking man in his early forties shows me around the farm like a proud father showing off his child’s graduation pictures. He emphasises on the minimal use of pesticides, but also expresses his woes on the peril of pests. However, organic produce is still the priority for this farm. Other than ingredients for wines, the farm also cultivates an assortment of melons, peanuts and vegetables plus several farm animals.

Away from the splendid rural paradise I move toward the city centre where the Lan Yang Museum resides.

This dipped-shaped architecture opened in 2010 and reflects the slanted structure of a mountain. Weaving through the museum is like walking in a rainforest, unlike other museums that we visit all too often. Within this compound one gets to understand why Yilan has no lack of water and the methods of farming and harvesting developed ages ago.

The Taiwanese people are a group of hospitable folks who value friendships, even if you are just a passing tourist in their land. What I’ve found out in this short trip to Taiwan is more than just about how to luxuriate my holiday. It is the discovery of something embedded within the people and places of Taiwan – the beauty from within, from a simple conversation, a plate of green vegetable to a capacious structure. The Taiwanese spirit holds such warmth, some find it unimaginable to visit the country just once in their lifetime.

Winter wear and handy maintaining tips from the leading purveyor of premium winter products DRESSING UP FOR WINTER If you are travelling in countries during their winter, have a proper knowledge on winter wear selection in order to dress warmly enough to stay comfortable while outdoors.

Wind-resistant jacket is a MUST Knowing the weather forecast of a winter country before leaving is important, since the winter apparel needed for different destinations like Tokyo, Beijing, Hokkaido or Harbin vary. Therefore, it is recommended to always carry a wind-resistant down jacket as it can be used individually as a wind-resistant jacket, and is suitable for different seasons. Down jackets are trendy and pretty light-weight nowadays; a good quality down jacket that can be flattened to fit into a suitcase sure beats carrying bulky and heavy coats all around.

Three-tier protection To keep warm, it is recommended to put on three layers of clothing as basic protection. Firstly, put on sweatabsorbing, highly breathable innerwear, and follow with a sweater to retain body heat. Lastly, a wind-resistant outwear is necessary to keep warm in snowing climates.

This gives one the flexibility to add or remove layers, depending on the weather and activity involved.

Do not forget to keep your hand-foot-head warm On top of protecting your body, it is important to keep your head, neck, hands and feet warm. Thus besides sweaters and jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, stockings, and ear masks are necessary.

It is better to have a coat with a high collar when travelling in winter countries. An alternative choice would be a woolen scarf, which can protect the neck and throat and block chilly winds. Therefore it’s advisable to bring along a scarf that is long and warm enough to be useful against the weather.

Take note to purchase well-insulated gloves made of quality materials that fit well and cover the wrists. Gloves that are too small in size will restrict the movement of fingers, making one feel uncomfortable. The best choice of materials are cotton and nylon.

A pair of well-insulated boots is a must to prevent contact with cold ground. Wear wool socks if possible to have better protection and make sure you are comfortable enough in them to walk long distances.

GET TO KNOW YOUR WINTER WEAR The best way to dress for winter is to wear layers; the basic three-tier protection is recommended. In general, the three main layers are wicking (thermal wear), insulating (sweater) and weather protection (jacket).

Winter apparels can be categorised into different types, mainly differing in their design and material – woolen sweater, down feather jacket, leather overcoat, cotton jacket etc. Pick a suitable material and fit for different seasons and weather to give yourself maximum range of motion.

Wool To protect oneself from extreme cold weather, wool is the perfect material to keep warm compared to acrylic and cotton. Woolen wear is a necessity for winter temperatures of 0°C and below.

Polyester Polyester possesses the hydrophobic function. The fibre

is more breathable and has the ability to dry quickly. Therefore, polyester wear is suitable for outdoor activities in fall or cool conditions.

Cotton Cotton is a natural fibre that has a high degree of strength, durability and absorbency. It absorbs water from our body and emits heat like a cooling machine. Therefore, cotton is more suitable for autumn.

Down Feather Down feather from goose or duck are valuable materials for winter wear. Down feather will become thick and dense in winter to protect the body from severe cold but few and thin in summer to regulate body heat. It absorbs water and emits it in fast speed. Moreover, it is the lightest and warmest material, which makes it perfect for the humid fall.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR WINTER WEAR Fibre Clothing To avoid fluff, do not over brush or rub your clothing. Do not use hot water to wash; as fibre is susceptible to heat, hot water can lead to contraction and deformation of your clothing. Wash gently and rinse thoroughly to avoid soap residue. Dry it in a ventilated area but not under excessive sunlight as UV rays may damage the fibres.

Cotton Clothes Wash before storage, or mold can be formed easily from odur and grease. Cotton is moisture absorbable so it’s great to expose it to the sun whenever possible during the rainy season.

Leather Clothing Do not wash leather clothes, use only clean cotton cloth or cotton ball dipped with cleaning lotion for leather and rub gently the dirt directly from leather. Avoiding direct sunlight as this can lead to lose of shine, damage of skin-fibre and cracks on leather clothing.
