In 2008, The Regent’s School, Bangkok was accredited as an IB (International Baccalaureate) World School. Since then, we have been offering the IB Diploma Programme, to a growing number of students in Years 12 and 13. The IB Diploma Programme is a dynamic learning programme that offers a broad educational experience, and is the perfect preparation for University and further education.
Over the course of the two year programme, students: * study six subjects chosen from the subject groups * complete an extended essay * follow a theory of knowledge course (ToK) * participate in creativity, action, service (CAS).
The subject groups are as shown in the IBDP Circle:
The subjects currently offered in Year 12 and Year 13 can be found in the Senior Studies Programme The extended essay is an externally assessed document of 4000 words, written on one of the subject areas. This requires the student to choose a research question for investigation and complete in-
depth and sophisticated research. Each student is allocated a supervisor and meet thorough out the process on a one-one basis to ensure that the essay is of sufficient quality and has the appropriate subject specific content. This process is similar to that required at many universities, and as such provides the students will an invaluable experience when they progress to any higher education institutions. Theory of Knowledge (ToK) is an interdisciplinary component that explores the different concepts of knowledge found in the subject areas. Students will look at the different Areas of Knowledge (AoK) and the Ways of Knowing (WoK). These empower the students to question their sources of information and knowledge. Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) is part of the Diploma Programme where the student takes part in activities on creative, physical and service activities in the local community. This allows the student to gain real life experience beyond the classroom, and fits in perfectly with the school’s Round Square philosophy, as we seek to prepare our students to be exemplary citizens. The student must demonstrate development of 8 learning goals, through their written reflections of the activities they are involved with, which are verified by a CAS supervisor.
