The Regent’s International School, Bangkok Job Description: Head of Outdoor Education and International Award (Whole School) Reporting to: Heads of School This document is to be read as an appendix to the responsibilities of a subject teacher Outdoor Education • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
To organise the school’s programme of outward bound activities during the week and at weekends To review and monitor the activities offered to ensure a structured and progressive series of experiences that will help students gain confidence and develop as individuals To develop contact for specific activities where the school cannot provide these in house To act as the Educational Visits Coordinator (EVC) organising the risk assessment programme and documentation relating to both day and overnight trips from the school To encourage all staff and pupils to take ownership of risk assessment and good practice when organising and taking part in off-site activities To centrally organise, hold and check risk assessments for off-site visits To coordinate an annual review of documentation relating to school trips To be an approachable contact for members of staff regarding off-site visits To remain current with DfES regulations regarding off-site visits and update school policy as appropriate To coordinate the running of the outward bound kit stores including purchasing, repair and logging (regarding usage) of kit To quality control school trips To organise and lead holiday trips as experience and qualifications allow To coordinate staff training both on a personal basis via in-house accreditation and National Governing Body Awards where possible To present to the Health and Safety policy meeting any proposal for visits that requires specific approval To provide advice and practical guidance to make sure that activities/visit comply with good practice and the school’s requirements To monitor what is written is delivered To produce standard operational procedures for adventurous off-site activities and to regularly reassess and update these To develop the school’s on-site facilities for the delivery of an outdoor educational programme To manage the budget attributable to the areas detailed To develop Adventure Training trips into the future
International Award • • • • • •
To be responsible for the co-ordination, smooth running, safety, and success of the Award. To run/oversee delivery of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, including recruitment, retention and training of students and volunteers/staff, ensuring high completion rates To manage a database of students participating in the Awards To plan and organise the expeditions, ensuring that procedures are implemented, including letters and consent forms for parents, briefing notes for supervisors, risk assessments, training for participants, information booklets, equipment, etc. To monitor and evaluate the delivery of the International Award programme To liaise, communicate and work with the International Award authorities as required

To promote the International Award programme in line with the aims, policies and development plans of the school To keep up-to-date with International Award developments and regulations and implement agreed changes as appropriate To inspire and lead those working within the International Award programme To keep the Head/Deputy Head informed about issues and progress, including any concerns, developments, annual requirements, and so on To ensure that effective policies are in place so that the needs of all pupils To ensure the school’s Health and Safety Policy is implemented within the International Award To plan, staff and organise the annual calendar of events, liaising with the Deputy Head to ensure as few clashes as possible with other activities, events, etc. To manage the recruitment, training, communication, and operational organization of the many volunteers and other staff involved To manage the budget and equipment store To ensure that material/displays are in place for School newsletters, School Website, Open Days and other events To undertake any reasonable task as directed by the Head of Secondary
