The Regent’s School, Bangkok Counsellor Job Description Reporting to: The Principal The Role of a Professional Counsellor The professional school counsellor is a qualified counsellor who implements a comprehensive school counselling programme that promotes and enhances student achievement. Employed within Early Years, Primary, Secondary and the Boarding Community, the work is differentiated by attention to developmental stages of student growth, including the needs, tasks and student interests related to those stages. The school counsellor provides a service to students in the following areas, but not exclusively: •
Individual Student Planning – coordinating ongoing activities designed to help students establish personal goals and develop future plans.

Responsive Services – preventative and/or interventionist activities meeting students’ immediate and future needs, employing the following methods:

Individual or group counselling

Consultation with parents, teachers and other educators

Referrals to other school support services or community resources

Peer helping

Information giving
Development of long term projects, including: -
Anti-bulling programme

Overseeing Child Protection Evaluation

Boarding programme (including introduction to Boarding and Thai Culture)

Professional Development and monitoring: weekly meetings with line manager; monthly meetings with external supervisor; demonstration of the effectiveness of the school counselling programme in measurable terms, through: observation, evaluation forms, feedback from staff and monitoring of services offered.

Discusses the comprehensive school counselling program with line manager.

Develops and maintains policies and procedures for effective delivery of the school counselling programme.
•
Communicates the goals of the comprehensive school counselling program to school community.
•
Maintains current and appropriate resources for school community.
•
Provides individual and group counselling to students with identified concerns and needs.
•
Consults and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
•
Implements an effective referral and follow-up process.
•
Accurately and appropriately uses assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counselling services.
•
Provides appropriate information to staff related to the comprehensive school counselling programme.
•
Assists teachers, parents/guardians and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.
•
Participates in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
•
Uses available technology resources to enhance the school counselling programme.
•
Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counselling profession.
•
Presenting Key Issues to Parents.
•
Accesses Supervision regularly and effectively
