Oakland Freedom School visits Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science

OFS scholars went on their first field trip of the summer on June 30. The fascinating trip to the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley followed a week of educational activities focusing on family, and STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Field Trip Volunteers Requested Ten (10) parent volunteers are needed to chaperone this Fridays July 6, field trip to the Tech Museum in San Jose. Parent volunteers need to provide their own transportation, but OFS will cover museum admission cost. To volunteer, email nedra@ leadershipexcellence.org. OFS holds 2nd Parent Chat & Chew OFS parents came together for the second time on Thursday, June 29 to network and discuss ways families can support themselves and each other. The “chat and chew,” a discussion with meals provided, was facilitated by Colette Reid, MSW of the Lincoln Child Center. Parents discussed ways to stay organized, stay healthy, and stay connected with other parents and adults.

D.E.A.R. DAY Parents and community members are invited to D.E.A.R. Day (Drop Everything And Read) on Wednesday, July 11. D.E.A.R. Day is an OFS program that encourages adults to read to children. By taking time away from their busy schedules shows our youth how much we care about them. Our children are our most precious resource. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for further details.
