BRING OUT YOUR INNER BEAUTY AND FIND A WHOLE NEW YOU WITH THE HELP OF THE EXPERTS AT NATURAL LOOK CLINIC.

Giving nature a little help ith the festive season fast approaching, many of us are assessing our goals for the months ahead and considering whether to address the areas of our life that could perhaps do with a little improvement. wrinkle treatments using Anti-wrinkle injections are a quick and easy way to smooth out the forehead and around the eyes and mouth, without any need for surgery. Anti-wrinkle injections is a protein that acts on the muscles of the face, causing wrinkles to relax and smooth out lines, and it can be used to treat the frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead and crow’s feet. Mr Kazzazi and his team take time to listen to your exact requirements, to ensure they deliver the very best results and, in addition to facial lines and wrinkle treatments, Antiwrinkle injections can be used to reshape the temples, cheeks, forehead, eyebrows and labia. In addition to Anti-wrinkle injections, there are many other options for facial rejuvenation at the clinic. Dermal fillers give immediate and long-lasting results, and are a safe and natural way to soften deep lines from the nose to mouth area. If you’re looking to improve an imperfection or highlight your best assets in the most beautiful – and natural – way, Derma Fillers can also enhance thin lips, creating a more defined lip border and lifting the corners of the mouth. The philosophy at Natural Look Clinic is to enhance your natural look and bring out your inner beauty, as well as help you maintain good health

by providing top quality services and advice from trusted and qualified sub-specialised medical professionals, who are each contracted with accredited hospitals and health organisations and are dedicated to providing a safe and reliable service. Other services offered at Natural Look Clinic include body sculpting, using Vaser Liposuction, and breast cosmetic surgery, including enlargement and uplift. They have two large classrooms and a Professional Nail Shop stocking over 200 Gelish Colours. Red10 train with the brand Nail Harmony and stock their entire range of products. Tell us a bit about your journey so far

After training at Red10, I rented a desk in a salon. It was slow to start with, but then I got busier and busier. I realised that if I was busy in the winter months, I was going to be very busy in the summer. I couldn't expand and take on any more staff where I was so I had to move into bigger premises. In July 2014, I opened

Katie Stimson (centre) and her team at Handgelic Nails, Hatfield

Handgelic Nails with one member of staff, Emma. Emma wasn't trained so I sent her on the acrylic and Gelish courses at Red10. In November 2014, I took on another member of staff, Debbie, and also sent her to train at Red10. Then in January 2015, myself and Emma did the Funded NVQ at Red10. It was tough, but it really perfected our skills. We have hired three more members of staff since then. I only send my staff to train through Red10. What made you choose Red10 for your training?

I just liked the feel of the place. It's not a negative, gossipy place. It's not tolerated at all, which is something I implement in my own salon. What inspired you to open a salon so early in your career? I'm an ambitious person and 100 per cent committed. Customer service is at a very high standard in this industry and this gave me the drive to want to achieve more.

available to speak to and it's an invaluable service to me. What's next?

Beauty. We only do a few treatments at the moment so I would like to expand on that. Then, hopefully expanding again to a bigger salon. Managing staff and trying to keep them as happy and motivated as me is hard. Also, finding time, with being a single mum, can be quite hard. What's been your biggest achievement?

The whole thing. Seeing other salons closing around me while I'm still going shows I'm doing something right. Customer service is priority. What do you like most about Red10?

The support is excellent. I can call them any time for help. There is always someone

Floors favour the bold! STUNNING NEW FLOORING RANGES MAKE AUTUMN A GREAT TIME TO BE AT HOME! e’ve all enjoyed the summer and the extra sunny days of September, but as autumn draws on there’s still plenty to look forward to! As we start spending less time out of doors and the nights draw in, it’s a great time to give some thought to sprucing up our homes to create the warm and stylish haven that will make winter a positive pleasure. At United Carpets and Beds, our stores in Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield (at Lane Top and Queen’s Road) are busy getting ready for a bumper autumn, thanks to some fantastic new ranges which are being introduced for the new season. Tipped to be one of the most popular, is a dramatic new design with a strong zigzag pattern, which looks fantastic on stairs with contrasting solid colours. Jason Swift, manager of the Rotherham store, says customers like to keep up to date with the latest trends, and he’s predicting strong sales of the bold design and others like it. “While people love neutral colours such as grey and beige, which look superb in any room, there’s been a real rise in popularity in recent years of stripes and patterns,” he said. “People are looking for something a bit different, and this autumn they’re certainly going to be able to find it here – and our expert staff can help them decide what’s going to look great in their homes.”

W

After operating in one location for many years, the Rotherham store moved to Great Eastern Retail Park this year, into a purpose-built new store, and it’s been a huge success with customers. Meanwhile, Sheffield Lane Top store is enjoying staying in the same place, after United Carpets bought the shop when it could not renew the lease. Store manager Paul Brown and his staff were delighted. Their store sells a wide range of carpets, laminates, wood floor and vinyl as well as beds and mattresses by the British Mattress Company. “We really didn’t want to move,” said Paul. “Our customers know exactly where to find us, and they know we can provide quality products at a great price for our customers, which means many of them have come back and back.” Over at the other United Carpets store in Sheffield – Queen’s Lane – franchisee Lisa Beaumont says her staff are excited by the new ranges and looking forward to showing them to customers. “At this time of year we start taking notice

of our homes again – and laying a new carpet, vinyl flooring or laminate can make a fantastic difference to a room without breaking the bank,” she said. “We think customers are going to love our new ranges, and we can promise them great service from the minute they step through our doors to the minute they’re standing on their new flooring at home.” In Doncaster, Lisa’s sister - franchisee Joanne Horgan – is confident that the big buying power of United Carpets will ensure customers get the best deal around from her store in Barnby Dun Road. “We’ve been here for years and people know us well – and they know that we have a big brand behind us, but we’re also a familyfun franchise, so they get the best of both worlds,” she said. “We’re all looking forward to a busy autumn, and we’re excited about sharing our new ranges of flooring and beds with customers – they’re really something special.”

HALLOWEEN

Spooky season LOVE IT OR HATE IT, HALLOWEEN IS UPON US. HERE’S SOME IDEAS ON HOW TO GET INTO THE SPIRIT. alloween is something of a Marmite celebration. Some relish the chance to dress up and go door-to-door with their children, whilst others turn off all the lights in their houses and hide from the trick or treaters. Whether you want to escape or extend the spooky season, there’s a variety of events taking place in and around Doncaster for both children and adults to enjoy. Here are just a few of the things happening this month.

H

Enjoy cabaret with a twist A Black Cat Theatre Company production of Cabaret of Horrors will be performed at Doncaster Little Theatre on Saturday 22 October at 2pm and 7pm. The story is about Carrie-Mai, whose life has always been shrouded in mystery. Brought up by highly religious foster parents in a small Massachusetts town, she never really fit in. But when a curious letter arrives on her 21st birthday informing her that she has inherited the infamous Cabaret of Horror theatre in Lancashire, she knows her life is about to change. The only question is will it change for better or worse? Like most cabaret performances, expect a musical play full of special effects. However, as a dark comedy full of illusions, it is not suitable for young children or those with a nervous disposition. Tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for children aged 16 and under. For more details, visit www.doncasterlittletheatre.co.uk.

Spooky market and more Indulge your sweet tooth at Marshall’s Yard at Sunnybank A fantastic Halloween event will be returning to Marshall’s Yard and Gainsborough town centre on Saturday 29 October. Join in and get dressed up for some frightful fun. There will be live performances throughout the afternoon, a spooky market and a number of street acts to enjoy. And don’t forget to get your children to enter the free pumpkin design competition. More details will be given closer to the event. For more details, visit www.marshallsyard.co.uk.

Have a spooktacular time at Yorkshire Wildlife Park Don’t miss Yorkshire Wildlife Park’s Spooktacular on Thursday 27, Friday 28 and Saturday 29 October. Cast under a spell this Halloween, the park will be inhabited by mythical beasts and magical characters. With family-friendly entertainment and activities all day, you’re in for an enchanting time. And if none of that takes your fancy, the usual residents including the only polar bears in England will also be present. For more details, visit www.yorkshirewildlifepark.com.

For those who love nothing more than indulging their sweet tooth at this time of year, look out for a range of spooky-flavoured ice creams, available this Halloween at the Yorkshire Ice Cream Farm at Sunnybank Gardens. As the only homemade ice cream parlour in the Doncaster area, it’s a real treat for all the family. They make 40 varieties right on the premises and each artisan recipe has been personally created by owner Rebecca Storey who has 30 years’ experience in the artisan food industry. With a garden centre, tearoom and ice cream parlour to relax in seven days a week, there will be plenty of fun for all the family this half term at Sunny Bank Gardens. For more details, visit www.sunnybankgardens.co.uk.

The sky’s the limit BOOK A FLIGHT EXPERIENCE WITH HUMMINGBIRD HELICOPTERS.

o you know an adrenaline junkie or someone with a sense of adventure? Then why not treat them to a flight at Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s exclusive new helicopter operator, Hummingbird Helicopters? A trial lesson makes a great gift for anyone who is looking for a new hobby, a one-off challenge or even a career change. The lessons start with a one-to-one pre-flight briefing and you will then take to the air, manipulating the dual-flight controls and enjoy views of the Cold War hangars at DSA (formerly RAF Finningley) and its immense 2.8km runway. Introductory flights are a fantastic way to see the beauty of South Yorkshire, the Peak District and the Humber Estuary from the air. Maybe there is somewhere special you would like to fly over (your home, the church where you got married or a famous landmark)? Hummingbird also offer discovery days – a four-hour adventure broken down into both ground school and flight training. This is a real hands-on experience – where budding aviators will spend the majority of their time at the controls of the helicopter. “While safety and integrity are our core principles, our aim is to allow our pilots to enjoy the freedom of flying. Helicopters are incredible vehicles. Once you’ve got your licence, you can land almost anywhere. Country hotels, restaurants, golf courses… the list is endless,” says CEO Helen Spedding. If you would like to treat someone to a birthday, anniversary or Christmas present, Hummingbird sell personalised gift vouchers for each flight experience. You can also buy gift vouchers to part pay towards a flight. Hummingbird may be a new organisation, but Capt. Matthew Rake is not new to

D

aviation. He’s spent over a decade instructing and examining in the UK and USA, flying Air Ambulance in the Middle East and working in the oil and gas sector on the North Sea. “Flying a helicopter is the most exhilarating and rewarding experience you could ever wish to achieve. You get a real buzz,” he says. “We train people to get their Light Aircraft Pilot’s Licence LAPL(H) or Private Pilot’s Licence PPL(H). I love passing on my knowledge and passion for flying and guiding students to become confident, qualified pilots. If you are thinking about booking a flight, you won’t be disappointed, and if you are considering a career change, I will give you advice and have many contacts gained first hand in the commercial rotary world.” Hummingbird have just partnered with The Vulcan to the Sky Trust and will be offering introductory Vulcan aerial flights to coincide with XH558’s ground-runs throughout October and then once per month starting in Spring 2017. If you have any questions, the team are happy to discuss everything with you, and of course, can show you around the Robinson R22 Beta II. Their office is only 25 minutes from the centre of Sheffield as a result of the new Great Yorkshire Way link road. “We have a great coffee machine and comfy leather couches. Feel free to pop in for a chat!” adds Helen. ORBIS JEWELLERY IS DEDICATED TO MAKING STUNNING BESPOKE PIECES YOU WILL CHERISH FOREVER.

The art of beautiful jewellery ituated in the heart of The Courtyard, Bawtry, Orbis Jewellery is a stunning jewellery showroom featuring a range of classic, contemporary, and stylish jewellery pieces, alongside a first floor workshop, which is always open for clients to view work being done. Owned and run by husband and wife team Chris and Cecilia, Orbis Jewellery is proud to offer all jewellery services, from bespoke designs and commissions, to on-site repairs, antique restoration and remodelling. There is also an independent valuation service giving clients a valuation pack with a detailed description and image of each piece submitted. Chris has a long history in the jewellery trade after starting work as a trainee in a jewellery shop in 1986. After three years, Chris moved to the heart of the jewellery trade in

S

the UK – in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter – where he started to learn the fundamentals of jewellery making and repairs. Four years later, Chris decided the time was right to open his own workshop in the same Jewellery Quarter - and so, in 1993 he started down the path that has led him here today. Cecilia also has a history in the trade; after moving from Peru in 2002 she started working in Birmingham Assay Office in the laser department, hallmarking and laser engraving on many different pieces of jewellery. Chris and Cecilia have been able to secure a

valuable relationship with one of London’s biggest diamond suppliers, giving them access to large stocks of certificated and uncertificated diamonds of all shapes and sizes. As part of the modern approach to the shop, a full inventory of over 4,500 certificated diamonds is available to view on the dedicated diamond page of their website. Clients are able to be a part of the process of building their own pieces from start to finish – beginning with choosing a loose stone, whether it’s diamond or coloured stone (usually available in the shop within one/two working days). Clients can then discuss a style of mount and the piece will be set and finished on-site. Chris and Cecilia not only have a passion for jewellery, but are proud to see it being loved by their customers. EASTSIDE RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 2016 NOMINEES Best Pub Restaurant THE BLACKSMITHS EVERTON

Pub classics including several different burgers and steaks alongside pie, lasagne and chicken kiev are all guaranteed crowd-pleasers. Meanwhile the choice of ten different types of sausage means even a simple plate of bangers and mash can satisfy the most demanding tastes. CADEBY PUB & RESTAURANT

This gastropub specialises in locally sourced ingredients and has been lovingly restored in recent years. Blessed with a beautiful countryside setting, the Cadeby delivers big flavours and offers a well-balanced mix of pub favourites and gastro treats. A fantastic range of ales, wines and speciality whiskies adds to the fun. THE SEPARATIST

Whether you are in search of a great steak or something more experimental – blue cheese ice cream or crab with white chocolate yoghurt for example – this new 90-cover gastropub and restaurant covers all bases and executive chef Darren Rogan is always looking to push the boundaries. THE SHIP

If you want wooden boards instead of plates look elsewhere. Hearty pub grub and a homely atmosphere is what The Ship delivers. Run by the Wallis family for over a decade, this CAMRA award-winning venue offers plenty of choice, generous portions and always a cheerful welcome.

Best Indian AAGRAH

Genuine Kashmiri cuisine, served by attentive, knowledgeable staff in a luxurious setting, ensures the dining experience at Aagrah is always special. The varied menu means everyone, including vegetarians, is catered for and the hyderbadi sauce is so good some customers take home bottles of it. POPPADOMS AND CREAM

With ice cream, crepes and milkshakes on the menu, Poppadoms and Cream is definitely an Indian with a difference. Desserts play a major part but if you fancy something spicy, the biriyani and Balti main courses are the real deal. Just remember to leave room for pudding.

RELISH

ROCCOS

It’s the relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff that helps Relish stand out from the rest. Regular live music nights are a real crowd-puller and popular dishes include flamegrilled BBQ chicken and halloumi and vegetable fajitas. The cocktail menu is pretty special too.

COLEMAN’S PIZZERIA & STEAKHOUSE

No prizes for guessing what’s on the menu here, but when comfort food tastes this good, who needs surprises? The open kitchen is all part of the show – watch your pizza being flung to order, and steaks really benefit from the authentic flame-grilled flavour.

Rustic, wholesome, family-friendly and totally authentic, Roccos Italian Kitchen is perfectly situated on a south-facing courtyard in Tickhill and produces beautiful plates of gutsy food to match the location. With a great wine list and superb service, the Roccos experience is always positive. ZINIZ

Covering the whole ground floor of the Grand St Leger Hotel, this stylish newcomer combines industrial chic décor with a generous menu that includes, not surprisingly, a varied selection of shellfish and meat dishes. Portions are on the generous side so do arrive hungry.

Delicious Tuscan cuisine in a contemporary setting is the order of the day at Ziniz. Seafood is particularly good here and the wine bar, at the heart of the Bawtry scene, is perfect for a spot of people watching. The recently refurbished rustic courtyard is a real sun-trap, ideal for alfresco dining.

THE CLASSIC & CONTEMPORARY COFFEE SHOP

ELIF

Generously-filled sandwiches, perfect paninis and giant slices of fresh-baked cake at genuine bargain prices make this wooden-panelled café a welcome lunchtime retreat. It is slightly off the beaten track but well worth seeking out.

The sizzle of the chargrill and the open kitchen add to the sense of occasion at this lively Turkish venue. Hearty skewers of lamb and spicy sausage make this a carnivore’s delight but there are also seafood and vegetarian options, and the accompanying salads are just as impressive.

CRAB & MOO

BAWTRY’S BAR & BRASSERIE

Bawtry’s shares a building with Coleman’s Pizzeria & Steakhouse and they both serve the Coleman’s menu. Scrubbed wooden tables, antler chandeliers and a contemporary look with dark grey walls and candles flickering in storm lanterns make this an inviting venue for wholesome food in a lively setting. 31 MARKET PLACE

Since it opened in September last year, 31 Market Place has become one of Bawtry’s most bustling bars with an impressive selection of rums and gins, an inventive cocktail list and a food menu including a selection of savoury and sweet crepes and good quality meats and cheeses.

LALEZAR

Serving top Turkish cuisine in the heart of Doncaster, Lalezar’s specials include marinated and chargrilled sea bass and flavour-packed lamb chops. For those with a sweet tooth, the baklava is authentically sticky and moreish. OLIVE LOUNGE

This dual-purpose venue has created quite a buzz in Wickersley, with a downstairs cocktail bar which is also home to some great live music, and an upstairs restaurant serving tapas and large Spanish-style dishes including superb seafood paella.

THYME AT BAWTRY

THE CROWN HOTEL

This charming, contemporary restaurant tucked away on a gorgeous Georgian side street, scores highly for taste, presentation and service. We loved the scotch egg with its perfectly runny yolk and the lemon and herb chicken with fondant potatoes, as well as the helpful pointers from some of the friendliest waiters around.

Head chef of 30 years-plus Caz and her team can turn their hand to anything, from a banquet to an intimate dinner for two, and a menu relaunch sees an attractive array of new dishes joining traditional Crown favourites. Try the spicy Thai duck salad or surf and turf featuring crisp belly pork and succulent scallops.

CAVIARS

YE OLDE BELL

CRAB & MOO

The retro exterior with its old school hanging baskets is a little misleading; Caviars specialises in cutting-edge cuisine with a flourish. Every plate is a picture and the sensibly small menu is full of invention. The plate of pork is a real showstopper and the well-chosen wine list represents tremendous value.

Relaxed dining in a grand setting is the style here, with a versatile menu of pub classics, a la carte and daily specials. New head chef Tim Stamp is eager to make his mark with what he describes as molecular gastronomy – creating new dishes with different tastes and textures.

See Best Contemporary for details.

THE OLD WEIGHING ROOM

EARL OF DONCASTER

31 MARKET PLACE

This ultra-stylish restaurant and bar at Doncaster Racecourse has been turning heads since its revamp a few years ago and it continues to impress with its 1920s domed glass bar area and contemporary dining room. Expert modern European cuisine and look out for special themed food and music nights.

The art deco style is inspired by the roaring twenties and with a menu dedicated to serving up classic dishes with a twist, the Earl of Doncaster delivers substantial food in a stylish setting. Try the pan-fried duck breast with kumquat sauce or shredded and rolled brisket in a red wine jus.

MAKE A PROPERTY

TRUST WILL The

Benefit

I

Protect the inheritance for children from previous relationship Protect up to half of the home value from care fees I Protect your property for the next generation I

How do they work? For Property Trust Wills to be effective you must own your property jointly with your partner. Most partners own their home as joint tenants. This means when one dies the home will automatically pass to the survivor. We will alter the ownership from joint tenants to tenants in common. This means you own a distinct share which you can then leave into the Property Trust which grants the surviving spouse a life interest in the home for their lifetime. Should the surviving spouse need to go into a care home then only their share of the home is taken into account not the whole.

Should your spouse/partner remarry or make a new Will after your death then your share of the home is protected for your beneficiaries. With arranged Care Home costs currently in the region of £600 per week, the cost of £300 is a small price to pay for the severance of joint tenancy and Wills. WEDDINGS

Nice day for a mad wedding…

UNIQUE WEDDING VENUES: 10 UNFORGETTABLE PLACES TO SAY ‘I DO’ BY RACHEL MARTIN AND OLIVIA DALEY ith thousands of wedding venues to choose from finding ‘the one’ is sometimes easier said than done. Once you’ve seen one hotel function room, you’ve seen them all, right? Everyone wants an unforgettable wedding day, but for travel and adventure junkies that can mean something slightly different from most. If you’re looking for a setting that’s a little less run of the mill; from the depths of the ocean to an underground cave, here are our top picks for a wedding location that’s a little bit out of the ordinary. And don’t expect to see a Las Vegas wedding chapel or a deserted beach on the list.

Marriage in the sky Couples can host their nuptials on a private jet with just family and friends, or book a huge platform suspended by hot air balloons, over one of the 45 countries in which Marriage in the Sky has a license. Marriage in the Sky offers couples a chance to literally take a leap into life together. Parachutes or bungee cords recommended. www.dinnerinthesky.com/marriage-in-the-sky

In a shark tank Perhaps one of the most unusual locations that has served as a venue for weddings is the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead. While many couples simply opt for the oceanic view, diving enthusiasts can embarked on their own unique version of an underwater wedding: surrounded by sharks. You can literally dive right in for a wedding with real bite. www.atlantisbanquetsandevents.com/wedding

In an igloo While a wedding in the sun is increasingly popular, you can’t beat knowing that the church where you exchanged your vows will have melted away by the springtime. A number of packages are available for an arctic wedding in Lapland and Finland, with some even offering a ride to the chapel in a reindeer sleigh. These snow-covered landscapes give new meaning to the phrase ‘white wedding’. www.travelbee.co.uk

At a festival A celebration of the bizarre and the decadent in an alien landscape, cutting edge music fills the air, teepees surround you and portable toilets are the norm. And if this all-round assault on the senses sounds like the sort of environment in which you’d like to pledge your everlasting love then you’re in luck, because festival wedding ceremonies are not uncommon. You can even get a friend to apply for a licence online to marry you. www.weddingfestivalcompany.co.uk Underwater With a number of diving companies offering wedding packages around the world, you will not be stuck for choice in choosing an aquatic location. Stuart Cove’s ‘Dive Bahamas’ is oncein-a lifetime underwater experience in one of the most beautiful lagoons in the world.

Burnham Clinic

Beauty lift with PDO Threads Why have surgery at £10’s of thousands when PDO Threads cost around £500. Safe, no down time, very little bruising, takes around 1 hour and virtually pain free. PDO (polydioxanone) is a material known and used in medicine for many years. Based on clinical observations, it was found that PDO stimulates the production of new collagen and produces the protein responsible for skin firmness and elasticity. The PDO technology is based on using the natural skin tension lines, which also causes an effect similar to a surgical facelift and gets the aesthetic effects close to botulinum toxin but more natural. PDO can be used on the face and body. The procedure usually takes 30 – 60

minutes and is practically painless. The effects of the treatment can be seen immediately, but the formation of new elastin starts after 10-14 days and then it really starts to show relevant effects of the treatment.

What it does:

. Skin rejuvenation . Smoothing wrinkles . Narrowing the pores . Skin Lightening . Increase the volume . Lifting the skin Due to the low invasiveness of the procedure, there are no complications, immediate effects, no discomfort.

Floral tribute TALENTED DONCASTER SCHOOLGIRL DAISY WATT PICKED UP HER PAINTBRUSH TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR CANCER CHARITIES. ancer affects young and old alike and one schoolgirl from Doncaster has created an amazing piece of artwork to be auctioned off at a charity ball later this year. Daisy Watt, six, from Misson is the little girl in question and it will be the first painting to leave the family, despite Daisy having received many commission requests before. “I really wanted to help and get enough money to buy a wheel for a Firefly van and as I love painting so much I thought that was what I should do,” said Daisy. “I’ve really enjoyed doing the painting and I was really excited to see it framed and in the gallery.” Daisy, who’s grandfather was diagnosed with the illness last year, has created two paintings, both of forget-me-nots and other flowers. Her vision was to let the forget-menots twinkle in the darkness at the bottom of the picture to represent the people who didn’t make it as Daisy believes that when you die you become a star. The rest depicts daffodils and daisies growing strong in the sunshine to represent the people who are recovering. “I am so proud of Daisy and her desire to make a contribution to the fundraising of this

year’s Equinox Ball,” commented Karen Watt, Daisy’s mum. “Her aim was to be able to raise enough money to purchase a wheel for another Firefly vehicle – to exceed this would be beyond our wildest dreams.” The third Equinox Ball will take place on Saturday 5 November and was the idea of Doncaster couple Sarah and Paul Mullen who had lost Paul’s parents to cancer in the same year. Once again, funds will be raised for Cancer Research UK and also Doncaster charity Firefly, which assists cancer patients in taking them to and from their medical appointments. Daisy’s contribution is particularly fitting as this year the aspiration of the event is to raise enough money for five children with neuroblastoma to participate in an immunotherapy trial costing £30,000 as part of Cancer Research UK’s ongoing work. Sarah Mullen commented: “Daisy is a very generous and talented little girl and I am sure people will fall in love with her painting as soon as they see it. I cannot thank her enough – to be able to buy a wheel would be so special and I hope that the people of Doncaster and beyond show their support for Daisy and her efforts.”

The painting will form part of the live auction on the night but bids can be made prior to the evening at Limited 2 Art where bidding sheets will be available and which will be considered on the evening of the ball. Businesses which show their continued support for the event including Robinsons of Bawtry who donate a Mulberry handbag for the obligatory game of Heads and Tails, Bawtry Eye Academy, And She Knows lingerie boutique, Brewster Pratap, Crab and Moo, Crown Hotel Bawtry, Julie Poulter Designs, Keyhole Creative Media, Six IT Services and L & P Mullen Building Contractors.

ANXIETY AND STRESS ARE ON THE INCREASE IN THE MODERN WORLD, BUT WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT EASING THE THOUGHTS THAT KEEP US AWAKE AT NIGHT? ELIZABETH ANN THERAPIES INVESTIGATES. o pictures of work, piled high on your desk, dance through your mind at night? Are you haunted by a recent argument? Maybe you have money worries, a sick child, a nagging boss or mice in the basement. Whatever the problem, the thoughts just won't go away. How do you get rid of this infernal racket in your head? When a person is confronted with anxiety, or unwanted thoughts, their body undergoes several changes and enters a state called the flight-or-flight response. During this time their heart rate increases, leading to sweating, tense muscles, and more. Using a variety of skills can end this response and help divert the unwanted thoughts. Below is one simple technique to help: it is called the 4 - 7 - 8 Breathe in slowly. Count in your head and make sure the inward breath lasts at least four seconds. Pay attention to the feeling of the air filling your lungs. Hold your breath for seven seconds (again, keep count). You don't want to feel uncomfortable, but it should last quite a bit longer than an ordinary breath.Breathe out slowly for eight seconds. Imagine you are breathing through a straw to slow yourself down. Keep repeating until you feel calm.

Dear Liz

I am always worried, I've started to have small panic attacks. I seem to be in an anxious state all the time, even when I don't need to be. I've been to the doctors and he's suggested anti-depressants but I'm wanting to try something else first as they are a last resort for me. Have you any ideas or tips that might help. Dave, Doncaster Dear Dave

Try practicing deep breathing from the abdomen, which helps get more oxygen in and the more oxygen you inhale the less tense, short of breath and anxious you feel. If you find it difficult sitting, then lay down, put a small book on your stomach and try to breathe so the book rises and falls. Hypnotherapy is also a good therapy to try for anxiety or one of my anxiety management courses could be of help. All of the above are available with me @ The Vanilla Rooms Bawtry. It’s all about the details TERRI MOORE DISCOVERS THE SECRET OF SPECTACULAR NAILS AT EDEN BEAUTY. s Audrey Hepburn said: “Happy girls are the prettiest.” and, let’s face it, who isn’t happy when they look amazing? Nestled in the heart of Finningley, Eden Beauty pride themselves on delivering a professional but personal approach to beauty, and, since opening in the summer of 2016, has fast become the go to beauty salon in South Yorkshire. Eden Beauty know how important it is to look and feel great, and, ahead of this year’s St Leger Festival I was seeking a manicure that could really look after my nails. A manicure is pure unadulterated me-time, and, although I have had my nails done previously for special occasions, I’m not one to wear them all the time. Heading up the talented team is Sophie Garbutt, who has over two years’ experience in acrylic nails and nail art - offering the latest designs and colours - and she advised me on the endless shapes and style she could offer and what designs could be done. “Straight across the top”, she said as she made my hands perfectly symmetrical. Eden Beauty are all about those little details and making sure that your nails match your outfit is a huge deal. I went for a pink, due to a dress I would be wearing the following week to a wedding, and, as I’m normally a ‘plain Jane’ nail girl, Sophie convinced me to opt for the odd bit of glitter for something different. From halibut to hake, pollock to prawns, nothing can beat a dish of fish or shellfish.” Seafood week is all about giving seafood the recognition it deserves and thanking the people who produce it, from the fishermen who haul their fresh catch in all weathers, to the chefs who serve it to our table.
