I was raised in Makkah—a place of pure character and beauty, from the mountains and sunrises, to the Arabic typography and Islamic architecture. Since childhood, the world I have discovered has formed and has become my inspiration.

Starting with a love of art and moving through the multitude of steps in the design process, reaching solutions is my greatest satisfaction. I am grateful that I see the world through the eyes of an artist and that I am constantly inspired by my surroundings.

Revealing the Gems ...

{ Chapter

01/10 }

{ Solution } The chosen topic was San Francisco Hidden Gems. San Francisco is full of hidden gems worth recording. The idea came to me when I got bored with the places I normally go. I thought of creating a journal like a trip covering places that I had never seen before.

The goal of this project was to undertake extensive research, writing, image gathering and design. We were to record things we see, hear and touch as we go about our daily routines. These records would then be the fuel for our writing and designing of a book, an in-depth journal.

Embodying the Sound ...

{ Chapter

02/10 }

{ Solution } The music for this project was A Thousand Years, a song by Christina Perri. I used my own descriptions for ideas, emotions, metaphors and visuals I associated with the song. I used projectors to compose them onto various surfaces to create dimensional design solutions.

The goal of this project was to develop multiple typographical compositions in a conceptual and personal context. The aim was to develop a rationale for interpreting a piece of music through typography, imagery and layout. The final outcome would be a poster representing our personal interpretation.

Rebranding an Icon ...

{ Chapter

03/10 }

{ Solution } My chosen brand was Duncan Hines. Duncan Hines was an advisor, recommending restaurants and hotels. I looked to his story to rebrand the company. I focused on creating more connections between people and their homes and giving them a sense of home when they are away.Â

Rebranding

The goal for this project was to choose a brand that is dead, dying or defunct and identify its essence. We revived the brand by developing a new brand identity and by creating brand extensions that open the company up to a whole new audience while still remaining true to its original purpose.

Connecting Cultures ...

{ Chapter

07/10 }

{ Solution } The focus chosen was the diversity in San Francisco and how this diversity can help us learn about other cultures. The multi cultural calendar is an app that lets people know about other people’s holidays and events so they can celebrate with each other.

{ Page }

127

Multi Calendar

The goal of this project was to design a unique mobile application based on the city of San Francisco. It had to be based on a functional idea that helps people and utilizes the purposes of a mobile app. We had to work within the constraints for designing mobile touch interfaces.

Bringing Him to Life ...

{ Chapter

08/10 }

{ Solution } My chosen director for this project was Roman Polanski and his horror and dramatic films. My design choices included using torn paper to represent Polanski’s themes. The title for the film festival is Deceptive Virtue and it pulls together the riveting storytelling of all of his films.

...

The goal for this project was to design all features of a film festival dedicated to a film director we chose. We discovered a common thread that appeared in each of the director’s films and conceptualized a design aesthetic that would bring it to life. We developed a system of deliverables that captured the essence of our film festival.

Tracing Growth ...

{ Chapter

{ Solution } The topic for this project was human development from conception to the end of life. My process involved looking into books on human physiology and psychology, and collecting vintage catalogs that could be used to create something new related to my topic.

Development

Human

The goal of this project was to select a subject and explore it for a total of thirteen weeks. By implementing a variety of design elements such as handwritten typography and photo-collage, the process turned into the primary content for a final book.

Supplemental is an organization that helps people choose better supplements. It offers an app to help people decide what supplements they need or don’t need in their diet, and choose supplements which are fully tested.

{ Goal } My goal is to provide people with accurate information about their supplements, and make it easy to talk about this info with their doctors. Also, I want to provide a way to manage daily consumption of supplements.

...

Dietary supplements are regulated by the FDA as food and not as drugs. So, the labeling and marketing of the supplements are often misleading. There are so many vitamins and supplements on the market that appear very legitimate, which encourages people to take them.

{ Solution } My chosen topic was dietary supplements. It is an interesting topic because there are many supplements in the market unrestricted by regulations or supervision. I came up with a mobile application that could reduce this problem and benefit people who use supplements.

Supplemental

The goal of this project was to choose a problem and find a graphic design solution that we worked on for the rest of the semesters. We undertook extensive research, writing and design processes. We were to record things we read and heard as we went about our work. From these records, we created path to follow in solving the problem.

My designs are a display of thanks for all you have given me emotionally, physically, financially. Thank you God from the beginning for nourishing me in every way. Thanks mom for your encouragement and support as I faced the challenges of my studies. Thanks to my husband for being so patient and flexible. And finally, thank you dad for your unfailing love—I only wish that you were still here to see what I have achieved.
