Mystical Tuscany Article and Photography by: Sammie Audion Some regions in this world have a certain mystical attraction – some might remind us of fairy tales or the legendary old times. Perhaps they simply give us a cozy feeling of an idyllic home in a dreamy village where time seems to pass at a different pace. Imagine you would sit in a lovely small ristorante in such a village. Close your eyes; smell the enticing aromas of truffle and herbs hovering in the fresh air. Taste the medium-bodied Sangiovese red wine as it touches the roof of your mouth to reward with earthy tastes of cherry, dark berries, and plum. Welcome to Mystical Tuscany! deserve Savoir Vivre freely translated the “art of living,” refers to the celebration of those intense little moments in life and giving them the focus, they deserve. Often enough, the daily rat race is a constant run from one checkbox on our to-do-list to the next. The goal seems to be ‘keep working through an ever-growing list.’ But does this make us happier or healthier? Not likely. Society does not have a very high priority on the said savoir vivre, instead focusing on the fast reward. After all, fast reward recreation is often intense, high-level consumption like rides, parks, or watching games in sports stadiums and can lead to frustrations and

addictions. Sadly, this kind of consumption creates profit, which is encouraged in our society. Perhaps it’s reasonable to be a little critical. So, what is the alternative? One could say simply do less and do the things that are better for you, your health, and your happiness -which is actually all the same. But what does that really mean, and how could we get there? One could follow five simple guidelines: -Eat healthily and exercise regularly -Have a purpose for every day -Spend time on community and friendships -Slow down and take walks outdoors -Reward yourself with things you like

Many would note that this list is full of well-known advice for wellness. However, few seem to focus on community. Scientists found that belonging to and engaging in tribal activity (being part of a relatively small social group) are apparently critical to our wellbeing. Tribal activities include belonging to a church community or simply spending quality time with close friends. These findings are concerning because people tend to be more and more isolated and lonely these days, despite social media (or perhaps because of it). This loneliness is known to cause depression as well as other mental or physical illnesses.

The countryside villages in the Real Life (RL) Tuscany ffer simple and peaceful living in small communities. eople know each other, talk in the streets when they o out and buy fresh groceries from the local farmers. They know the place their milk is coming from. Since much of the produce comes from the community self, the quality is typically fantastic. After church, many meets at the local restaurants for coffee or erhaps lunch.

o how does the Mystical Tuscany installment fit in his picture, you may wonder? Mystical Tuscany is the irtual representation of such a village. The almostreamy, idyllic village fits perfectly into the romantic andscape. The sim manages to capture the ambiance erfectly. Plaza’s and restaurants invite the visitor o stay for a while. Cozy, low-priced apartments, as well as beautiful villas, are available for rent for those ttracted to this simple harmonic lifestyle. So why not ve in the virtual representation of a Tuscan village?

JGranted, within Second Life (SL), we can only do so much of the earlier laid out points that would be beneficial for our health. However, we can spend time with our friends in-world. Spending time talking about the things that concern us in our Real Lives surely helps. Slowing down and indulging in the Tuscan lifestyle can be beneficial and, ideally, have an impact in our daily life and help motivate us to make healthy changes. Nothing is preventing us from combining the approaches in RL and SL. After all, it pays to be nice to ourselves – both mind and body. In that sense, welcome to your personal Mystical Tuscany (145, 107, 28).

TITANIC She was amazing. On her maiden voyage, the pride of the White Star Line was cutting edge, luxurious, and labeled by the press “The unsinkable ship.” Today, the R.M.S. Titanic rests on the bottom of the ocean in its first life but safely berths harbor in the second one. R.M.S. Titanic, Ship of Dreams, is just that: a Second Life vision and a look back at what might have been. This tribute opened in 2007-- built by Morphius Barbosa, (now under the name Reborn Wingtips), owned by Mara Menges. This sim is dedicated to the memory of souls lost in the murky dark waters of April 15, 1912. But in SL, click the mouse and voila! We are here! “I am a big Titanic fan of the one in real life,” Mara says about history’s most famous ship. “I was looking to see if there was a Titanic version in Second Life when I stumbled upon this wonderful ship. At first, I managed it for a few months before obtaining it.” It has been a labor of love. People do not understand the time it takes to manage a project like this,” she notes. “Titanic is almost a full-time job, but it is fun. I think I am succeeding with it.” The builder felt Titanic deserved more than what was currently available in Second Life. Mara agreed

Article and Photography by: CompE| “We wanted people to see how beautiful it was in the real world.” Mission accomplished. The site is based upon Reborn’s design from studies of the Titanic while in college. His goal was to make the ship historically accurate while accommodating Second Life visitors around the globe. The thrill begins when TP-ing to the site and walking dockside for pedestrian tours of the ship’s hull, only available in the virtual world. One can imagine the boarding manifest as doomed passengers walked the gangway of a floating fortress soon to be watery grave. Period automobiles line the path, as do memorial wreaths. On the other side of the walkway is a stunning R.M.S. Titanic Memorial, listing lives lost when the illfated ship struck an iceberg. Under an eternal torch, an inscription reads: In memoriam of the souls who perished upon the RMS Titanic Decks, April 15, 1912 - “A ship of dreams beneath an ocean of memories.”

Next, we board the Second Life version indicative of better times. You can TP to the ship’s main focal points (the memorial, the ballroom, and the bow), but for the effect of onboard reality, walk up the grand stairway to the ballroom. The gorgeous design is a perfect replica of the original.

The bow allows visitors to assume Jack and Rose’s famous “King of the World” pose from the historical fiction movie Titanic.

We have live music almost every day,” notes Mara. “And we have DJs and all kinds of events.”

Nearby is “The Second Night to Remember,” The Barbosa-Raymaker Museum chock full of information and artifacts from the ship as well as its crew, passengers, and story.

Themes are popular -- during holidays such as Halloween, Easter, Christmas, etc.,the ship is decorated accordingly.

Three categories of people visit H.M.S. Titanic, Ship of Dreams:

No matter the dance or especially in the ballroom. entertainment, all who visit have a sense of reverence for the Titanic-- as it should be. Finally, the ship’s descendants come here. “They want to see how their ancestors lived on the Titanic,” One late night, April 14, 1912, the Titanic struck says Mara. “Some get pretty emotional, but that is an iceberg. The vessel sank in two hours and 45 the beauty of our site. We bring Second Life and minutes in the North Atlantic Ocean on the dawn Real Life together.” of April 15. Of the vessel’s 2,224 passengers, an estimated 1,500 died.

Adjusted for 2018 inflation, the Titanic cost $144.5 million to build. Its tour of service was 5 days. As for future plans in SL? “We don’t have any,” says Mara. “We can’t change what happened, and we can’t change the build or it would not be the Titanic.”

SUMMER DREAMS I love doing a beach scene because I get to hang out by the water enjoying the SL sun, while in RL I am sitting by the fire and trying to keep warm as winter does its thing in the southern hemisphere. For some reason, the sand, the palm trees, and the lapping waves warm me up and make me feel a little better. It is nice to escape to some sun, even if it is virtual! I also love doing beach scenes because I get to show off new items that are just perfect to transform your seaside area into a little tropical oasis. In the case of this scene, I decided to set up on the beach just below my house. I chose this location because it wasn’t a huge expanse-- just a little space where I can hang out with some friends and enjoy the sunsets. My first placed item was the Sombrero Tiki Bench from CHEZ MOI. This great new item just calls out for a little beach spot to add a touch of shade so you can escape from the sun’s rays. From there, I just fanned out the items along the beach in a cluttered way so plenty areas are available for those who want to sit or sunbathe or play.

Written and Photography by: Arya Braveheart TThe Water Swing Island from GOOSE was the next big piece, and I wanted it to be easily accessible from the beach. The kids can play while the adults relax, or the adults can swing (in a PG way) while no one is watching! If you don’t want to just sit about, you have the option to jump on a jetski or lounge about on the floaty whale. Maitai and drift anyone? That is about my speed. And when the sun goes down and the air cools off just a little, you can sit by the fire and enjoy the moonlight with someone special. Maybe you could toast some marshmallows, enjoy a glass of wine, and cuddle up to listen to the waves. I hope you are enjoying your summer if you live in the northern parts of the world. If you are like me and your home is in the southern hemisphere, then enjoy the warmth of SL and enjoy decorating up your beach or sunny area. Loads of events are in full swing or just ready to begin, so put on your shopping shoes, loosen the purse strings, and off you go!
