It only seems like yesterday that I was decorating my garden and home with all of the colours of autumn, putting out the pumpkins, and preparing for Halloween, yet here we are in November readying for the end of the season before the winter months of SL.
Because of this, I thought I would celebrate the beauty of fall by creating this garden area that is all about warmth with a sauna and hot tub, outdoor spaces with snuggly blankets, and spaces to eat autumn fare or toast marshmallows.
The central piece of this theme is the Trompe Loeil Kindra Norwegian Sauna, and I picked the one with the mossy roof to work in this scene. As you walk up the steps and into this raised garden, you can grab a towel and head straight in out of the cold. Take a seat and relax.
Once you have finished sweating up a storm, you can towel off and then go for a dip in the Lucks Hot Tub from CHEZ MOI. Turn on the jets, get the steam going, and sink into the warm water with a coffee and enjoy the view. The air might be chilled, but you will be toasty warm.
I know you will be hungry after your soak, so after you have put on a sweater, some pants and a warm pair of boots, head down the path to the outdoor areas. You have your choice of three at this end of the garden. You can take a comfy seat on the Ezra Patio Set from Louchara with the fireplace behind you, sit at the Bellwood Picnic Table from CHEZ MOI, or grab some marshmallows and toast them over the fire on the Jesen Set from Noveny.
If you really want to hide away, you can go and sit behind the fountain with the forest animals. Make sure you take a hot chocolate with you and grab a blanket in case the Merak Fall Bench is a bit damp since it sits under the trees.
Enjoy the last days of autumn, my friends, and make sure you take the time to explore the sims around SL that are so beautifully decorated as a celebration of fall. Don’t be in a hurry to change your colourful trees over to snow-covered pines just yet.

FLYING FOR A LIVING
Coco St. George
You know that many people say they come to Second Life to chill, relax, and escape from the chores and routines of their real lives, right? Yes, that is in fact the rationale behind that famous cliché we find in numerous profiles: “I don’t mix RL with SL,” “Please, don’t spoil my SL by bringing RL into it,” and other lines in the same vein. Some people even react to any mention of real life with deep disgust, as if any such reference could bring about a collapse of the time-space continuum as we know it.
Of course, not everybody reacts like that, such as Debbie Jetz. She joined Second Life not to get away from her real life but to find a continuation of the analog world in the digital realm.
“I was going through some things in real life,” she explains. “I was about to leave the military full-time and start my first civilian job as a pilot. That meant that I was going to be traveling a lot. My boyfriend at the time recommended Second Life as a way to ‘stay in touch’ when away from home.”
How did that work for them?
“I think it worked ok for the first few years,” she says. “I was traveling a lot back then when I worked for a charter airline. It was how we ‘dated’ when I was on the road.”
She adds: “We had been together for five years before I joined Second Life, and we were together three years after that. So, eight years in total.”
She pauses, squinting her eyes as if trying to evoke a memory.
“We didn't break up because of anything in SL,” she continues, “so we can't really call it an SL romance. For good or bad.”
“Anyway, although I obviously knew we could fly in SL, I didn’t look actively to fly planes here. I discovered aviation by sheer chance.”
PHOTOS: COCO ST GEORGE
“One site I went to had a ‘balloon ride’. I hopped on it and it took me on a tour of a sim,” she explains. “There I met a guy who was wearing a T-shirt that said ‘Abbott's Aerodrome,’ so I asked him about it. He gave me the landmark, and I went there. And that was it! It was something I knew about, was comfortable with, and I think I bought a helicopter that very night!”
That’s normal for a person who has worked as an aviator for her entire career.
“Yes, I have never had any other job.”
Nevertheless, she didn’t look for planes in the beginning, but rather for helicopters. After leaving the military, she was considering flying helicopters, but fate had other plans.
“Once I was out, I got a call out of the blue from a former boss and he said I should apply for this large charter airline. I did, and they hired me,” she recalls with a smile.
But the ardor for flying in Second Life didn’t last long.
“It was funny, because I had heard about it earlier but thought it was a silly game. But I tried the HUD, and go figure, I was hooked!” she adds with a big laugh.
The game consists of carrying out different transport missions by air, water, or land, each of which awards points when successfully completed. Players level up each time they achieve a certain amount of points. Aside from the points, operators get paid a pretty penny for their efforts. This money can be used within the game for several things; for instance, paying fines— some activities are not allowed, like smuggling.
“Yeah, my enthusiasm kind of died out after a few years,” she explains. “SL physics just won't allow a real-life flying experience. The overall physics model in SL doesn't lend itself to proper software simulators like the X-Plane or Microsoft Flight Simulator.”
In fact, using flight simulators in real life her interest in flying in Second Life decreased until it all but disappeared. It wouldn’t revive until she joined a peculiar community of role players devoted to transportation, or in their own words, “a HUD-based logistics and exploration game in the virtual world of Second Life.” That community is Get the Freight Out!
Needless to say, Debbie Jetz rapidly rose in the hierarchy, achieving an impressive Level 129 in just a few months.
“I told you I got hooked!”
“I am finding the airline groups here are really a social community,” she says. “It's interesting how their interest in aviation brought them together. That's been my latest interest, checking that out.”
“It has caused me to get out more,” she continues. “I think I was in a rut before. Don’t get me wrong. I love my friends, but I was only talking to the same people, going to the same places… I still love hanging out in the same spots and seeing friends, but doing this has been way fun.”
“It’s more than fun: it’s addictive! Maybe it’s just me, because I’m very competitive in nature, but winning points, advancing to higher levels, and earning fake Lindens is a very fun challenge. And I’m all about challenges.”
Flying is not her only activity in SL. Lately, she has diversified into painting. Painting planes, mind you. That’s a hobby she started practicing after hundreds of flying hours.
“Painting a plane is like making a tattoo,” she explains before admitting that she wasn’t quite versed in graphic software. “But I guess my desire to have my plane painted just the way I wanted was bigger than my inability to do it.”
“I’ve also decided to start taking passengers on my cargo flights,” she announces. “I am going to start advertising on the two passenger groups…” she pauses to check the group names.
Yes, there are groups in Second Life where people advertise their trips so others may fly along. It’s a fun way to meet people. If you’d like to ride along with Debbie (or other pilots), join the groups below and make sure not to miss the announcements. Who knows? You may discover your next new passion in flying, too!

FALL CHICCHICA
Sarah E. Brenham
Over the past few weeks, North America, Europe, and other areas had slowly morphed into a beautiful collage of warm colors. Despite the hues, a chill has fallen. What does this mean? Autumn has come.
Those who live in areas that experience the wonders of fall get to experience the season in all its glory; for the rest of the world, technology steps in to help. While some enjoy browsing photos of autumn on the internet, nothing quite compares to immersing yourself in the season. Software and sites like Second Life let people enjoy things and spaces they may not have access to in reality. So, I think that it’s only fitting we go to an area that is celebrating Fall.
Today, we’re visiting Fall Chicchica at ChicLand. Grab your jackets and let’s go!
Ah, we’ve now arrived at the Fall ChicLand sim. I know that it doesn’t look like we have, but let me explain. As you can see, there are two teleport pads. One of them is called “Chicachic,” and it leads to a store of the same name. The other, which is called “Town,” will take you to an autumnal wonderland. Please choose “Town,” and I will meet you all there!
Great, we’re all accounted for. And I see we have some new faces in our group today. I am happy that you decided to join our little family. I just want to point out that when I conduct an exploration of an area, I don’t show all of it, as I want you to return someday and have the pleasure of going to the spots that we didn’t see. So, now that we know how this expedition will operate, let’s head over to the first place that I want you all to have a peek at.
Here we are at the small amusement park. While it may seem tiny, I think it has just enough to keep one entertained for a good bit of time. We now will journey up the road to our next spot. This section has a few little homes where you can sit for a spell— the one we are currently standing in is my favorite. How come? With subtle nods to fall and a deck that overlooks an island, I can see many couples and even
throngs of friends enjoying this space immensely. Follow me to the next area now.
We have arrived at a mini park. You can play Chess and Pictionary here. Just across the way, we find a modest farmer’s market. This alone has earned my respect for this sim. I understand that this is SL and avatars don’t need to consume food to function, but I think that it’s important for programs to reflect reality, both the good and the bad. Farmer’s markets are a great example of the good, and more people should consider purchasing from them. I highly recommend learning more about the idea.
The final space where I want to bring you all may seem controversial, but indulge me, please. Yes, we are now in a church. Hear me out before you all run away. The reason y I wanted to end our trek here is to propose an idea to everyone. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a wedding on this sim? You don’t have to use the establishment that we are in, as there are plenty of other gorgeous spots here. While I am not sure if you would be allowed to have an official nuptial here, it never hurts to ask. Even if you can’t get married here formally, I don’t see why you, your fiancé, and a handful of family members can’t pretend to have a wedding!
Fall Chicchica truly is a place that has something for everyone. I don’t know how long this area will be available for, so visit now!

THE ART OF BURLESQUE: Empowerment Through Performance
In the heart of Second Life’s vibrant entertainment scene, a unique troupe redefines burlesque art. Erotique Burlesque, founded in April 2023 by longtime friends Liqueur and Lillie Orfan, has quickly become a beacon of creativity, body positivity, and self-expression.
A Unique Vision
“We are strictly a Burlesque troupe,” Liqueur explains, setting Erotique Burlesque apart from the myriads of cabarets and variety shows that populate the virtual world. Their commitment to authenticity is evident in every performance, each one a carefully crafted blend of dance, comedy, and storytelling.
Lillie adds her perspective: “Burlesque is a fun and playful type of entertainment that mixes comedy, dance, music, and sometimes striptease. It often makes fun of serious shows by exaggerating or being silly.”
The Creative Process
Creating a burlesque act is an intricate dance of inspiration and imagination. “I see inspiration in everything,” Lillie shares. Liqueur, who develops the monthly themes for their shows, emphasizes the importance of vivid imagination in bringing these ideas to life.
The troupe takes great care in balancing artistry and sensuality in their performances. “You have to have a mindset with these two elements in mind,” Lillie explains. The artistry part is easy because this plan is already in your mind; all you have to do is tweak it.

Challenging Perceptions
Erotique Burlesque is not just about entertainment; it’s about challenging societal norms and promoting body positivity. “Modern burlesque is such a celebration of the human body as an art piece to tell a story,” Liqueur states passionately.
The troupe is keen to dispel common misconceptions about burlesque. “It’s not extremely sexual and doesn’t have a lot of nudity,” Lillie clarifies.
Liqueur adds, “Burlesque is a space for self-love and sensuality. Look no further if you’re looking for a place to awaken that glorious exotic dancer inside.”
A Journey of Self-Discovery
For many performers, burlesque is a transformative experience. Lillie recalls her journey: “When I first started burlesque, I didn’t know anything about Second Life, much less dancing. But with determination and the help of others, I taught myself to build and learn HUDs to make this all come together.”
Liqueur shares a similar sentiment: “What I didn’t realize was that the shows were a powerful experience in self-love. So powerful that today I am living that dream as I dance.”
The Show Goes On
Erotique Burlesque continues to captivate audiences with its monthly themed shows. From “Around the World” performances to innovative storytelling through dance, the troupe appeals to a diverse and sophisticated audience.
As Liqueur aptly puts it, “Burlesque not only shows an alternative to oppressive scripts but defies them with humor and grace, all while involving the audience in the performance. This makes burlesque especially empowering.”
With a talented team of choreographers, backup dancers, and support staff, Erotique Burlesque is poised to continue pushing the boundaries of virtual performance art, one show at a time.
In the end, Erotique Burlesque stands as a testament to the power of self-expression, creativity, and the enduring appeal of this timeless art form. As audiences in Second Life and beyond continue to discover the joy and empowerment of burlesque, Liqueur, Lillie, and their team remain at the forefront, inviting all to join in celebrating art, body, and spirit.

DANTE HELIOS REKY CORVINUSBOSL ARTS
Iam an abstract artist living on the east coast in the United States of America. I had always strived to be a writer. Writing was my passion, however, to my surprise, around 15 years ago I put down my writing pen and replaced it with drawing pencils and a paintbrush, never to look back. I do still write from time to time, but my newfound love for creating art was my true passion. It just took me a while to find it, or for it to find me. About 12 years ago I had a major remodeling done on my home and I had to pack up my paints for months. It was frustrating not to be able to paint, so I decided to try a digital paint program and fell in love with the medium.
I use a mix of mediums from acrylics to digital, and I enjoy experimenting with different styles, mediums and techniques. When I create I never know where I'm starting, where I'm going or where it will end. It is a journey, and always a surprise ending. I let the work lead me and as I go along with a piece it evolves, oftentimes looking nothing like what I started with which is very exciting for me.
Regardless of which medium I'm using, my painting process usually starts on paper or canvas with mark making which loosens me up a bit. I rarely think about what I'm doing in the beginning. I usually do not have a subject in mind. I pick my colors and just let go. I paint intuitively getting lost in the layers of the journey, not knowing the destination. No real plan.
I love the excitement of the unexpected, and to the contrary, I love the comfort and security of the expected as well, hence, the diversity in my pieces. My work is a mix of bright bold opaque strokes full of energy and soft, quiet, watery and translucent hues. Some simple, some complex. Layer upon layer, sometimes up to 20 layers or more of colors, textures and forms. I love to experiment therefore, I don't have one set style. No one ever knows what I might come up with next, including myself!
This is what I love about it. It's a discovery. I strive to tickle the imagination, to stir emotions, to provoke questions through color, movement, calm, chaos, curiosity, simplicity. My work is subjective. It is a personal experience for each individual, hopefully creating a moment.
My mission is to evoke an emotional response using color, form, texture, and movement. I really hope to catch your eye, and then maybe your thoughts, maybe your emotions and fill some part of you with a question, with a feeling. I hope to stir something even if it's for just a moment. My goal is to allow you to get lost in the image, to experience it within your own interpretation.
I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it. I am always interested to hear what the viewer sees and feels so please feel free to IM me or write to me with thoughts or questions. If you ask to join my group for updates on new exhibits and pieces I would be happy to send you an invitation.
Thank you so much for your interest and taking the time to read this. And just a quick side note, I would like to thank all of you who have been supporting me, it truly means the world to me. ~ Ohsoleomio
