Spring is in full swing in Second Life and that means some of my favourite colours finally take centre stage: greens and yellows. It is citrus time and I have gone full flavour this month with green and yellow as my focus.

The houseboat is even sitting in a pond of green which set the palette for both the interior and exterior decor. I wanted it all to say lush and leafy. Isn’t that what spring is all about? It is the pop of bright colours after the monotones of winter.

Naturally, with this scene, I started with the gorgeous House Boat from Scarlet Creative and, of course, it had to be in water. I actually created my own pond using a water system from Studio Skye. This comes in really handy when you are creating a watery scene on a platform up in the sky far away from any actual SL water!

The outdoor furniture was the first area to set up and I had plenty of space to work with. I could even have gone up on the roof of the house boat. I had visions of a hot tub up there, but in the end I decided to keep it simple and stay down near the water.

The indoor area comprises two spaces with the lounge at one end and the bedroom at the other. However, I did manage to squeeze a small dining area in the lounge and an office in the bedroom to make full use of the limited indoor area. There are even some furniture pieces not seen in the photos as it is very awkward to get everything in when you are taking photos in a small space.

The last placement was a whole heap of plants and some huge trees. It is amazing how plants and foliage add so much to a room and make it feel lived in and alive. I am just glad I don’t have to water them all!

I hope April is a wonderful month for you in SL and RL. Remember, it is never too late to think about spring cleaning your SL living space. If it is getting a bit old and tired, go crazy and redecorate or rehome! Might I suggest some spring shopping?

AT THE BOSL PAVILION

It’s bold. It’s beautiful. It’s BOSL. And today, BOSL’s acronym comes to life. The “Best of Second Life” is a reality, as exemplified in the BOSL Pavilion— some assembly required.

The assembly is now complete; the pavilion is ready to welcome you, again and again.

Describing the latest venture of BOSL’s CEO Reign Congrejo is not easy. The pavilion features 10 focal points under one inclusive cyber umbrella. All are linked via teleporter kiosk on the property. Areas within strolling distance include a shopping area, Winery, the Waterfront Café, The Forest Room Restaurant, Tequila Bar, Concert Stage, Sound Garden, BOSL Signature Runway, Main Art Gallery, and Models Giving Back.

The site weaves and winds across a full prim sim. There is a lot of ground to cover. Wear comfortable shoes.

“This is a new build,” Reign says, in an impromptu tour of the facility. “Some buildings are the same but in different places, such as the café and art gallery.” But original blends with the new.

“I wanted this to be more innovative,” Reign adds about the creation. “I wanted visitors to experience a different feeling in BOSL. You can come here to relax, drink, shop, and enjoy.”

Each site is made to accommodate. “Our restaurants, such as the Winery, Tequila Bar, and others, are compatible with Xeolife, Zooby, and My Story,” notes Reign. “We are very open here. It is a one stop shop for everything.”

One enters the pavilion through many openings, including the Art Gallery. Each gallery section includes a clickable link to the artist, with a brief bio and information about their work. Each piece on exhibit is for sale— just click on it for the price, pay, and it’s yours.

On a similar note in similar places, art shops, photography stores, and other creative boutiques are available to strollers along the Shopping Area. Plenty of free parking.

Reign says, “In addition to shopping, we have all types of entertainment, concerts and other live acts.”

The cyber shop-‘til-you-drop experience is, of course, open year-round, 24/7; one of the joys of Second Life.

Upscale fashion and designer clothing stores line cobbled streets. Across the road from J.S. Photography is an unexpected walking trail through tranquil woods— a nice change of scenery.

If your hunger for shopping evolves to hunger for food, then it’s time to bon appetit the BOSL way, pixel style. The Waterfront Café offers casual dining on marble topped tables. It offers spacious vistas and feels open-air, yet it is enclosed by glass walls and ceilings. A workable mocha cart offers help yourself java and other brews. Disciples of coffee can almost feel nature’s gift to mankind: caffeine.

For a more upscale culinary experience, try The Forest Room. Complete with art-adorned walls, live music and dancing, and a tuxedo-clad maîtred, this is an experience in la de da dining. One walks in on a red carpet— literally.

And if the question is tequila, the answer is Casa Agave Distillery. What’s neat about this place is the detail, down to the last bottle. Each decanter of decadent delicacy is labeled. The room’s neon green story says it all: “One Tequila, Two Tequila, Three Tequila, Floor!”

Drive responsibly, but until you do…cheers!

The Sound Garden offers a reception area often used by BOSL pageant judges and officials. A red carpet path leads to the stage where various judged events and pageants take place. There is also similar venues, including the BOSL Signature Runway, where contestants’ compete for titles throughout the year.

Though bands and performances are periodically staged throughout the sim, BOSL Arts also offers the Concert Stage. Plenty of open-air seating is available. On this visit, crews are busy setting the stage for the “Queen with Adam Lambert” show.

BOSL Arts / Pavilion is a joint effort by Reign and Kaiden Tray. “Kaiden is one of the best landscapers in SL,” Reign emphatically endorses. “We designed a site that is accessible, offered to the public, and is very open. I think we achieved that.”

She continues about the area she co-designed, “I want it to be an escape from city life. People can retreat here to a quiet rural area. One can relax and enjoy the simple things in life.”

For information on other BOSL Arts venues, including the Models Giving Back, Rock Your Rack offices and charity, future concerts, and plans, visit the site. Updates will be posted.

Also while there, buy some art, furniture, designer evening gowns, and ample accessories. Top the day with a visit to one of the nearby eateries.

It’s all there by teleport, a lovely stroll, and really good tequila.

IN PARIS

Spring has officially started in the Northern Hemisphere of our planet, and there is no better way to celebrate the new season than visiting Paris, the most romantic city, which this time of the year is starting to bloom again to offer her visitors an unforgettable experience.

You may know Paris as the City of Lights, a nickname she earned during the Age of Enlightenment, the intellectual and philosophical movement that in the 17th-18th centuries spawned such central doctrines as individual liberty and religious tolerance. At that time, Paris played a central role as a center of intellectual and cultural activity, and many of the world’s most prominent philosophers, writers, and scientists lived and worked there. The city was also at the forefront of many technological advancements, including the widespread use of street lighting.

In fact, Paris was one of the first cities in the world to use gas street lighting on a large scale, starting in the early 19th century. This new technology transformed the city at night, making it a place of beauty and wonder and giving it a reputation as the “City of Lights.”

Today, the nickname also refers to Paris’s vibrant nightlife and the city’s stunning architecture, which is illuminated in spectacular fashion each night. From the Eiffel Tower to the Arc de Triomphe, Paris’s iconic landmarks are a sight to behold after dark, making it a truly deserving home for the name “City of Lights.”

A well-known part of that vibrant nightlife is the Moulin Rouge, the legendary boîte de nuit, visited

by such artists as the celebrated Toulouse Lautrec, where celebrities like Maurice Chevalier, Edith Piaf, and Yves Montand performed their shows. And if you go now, you’ll enjoy the feathery and dazzling artistry of Mistinguett, one of the many dancers who put the French Can-Can in headlines all around the globe. She was, by the way, Chevalier’s lover for many years, after she had a son with a Brazilian diplomat. Not that this particular piece of gossip matters or has any bearing on the fun you’ll be having there; I just thought you might find it interesting.

There are so many places to see and things to do in Paris that you would need a lifetime— or even several lifetimes —to see and do everything this magnificent city has to offer. Don’t let this make you feel overwhelmed. Even if you manage to visit just a few places, it will be a visit you’ll enjoy and remember warmly.

So, let’s start by visiting the Eiffel Tower, which is by far the most representative landmark not only of Paris but of the whole country. Look for the elevators and go straight to the 2nd Level. You’ll see there several panels (in French) about the story of the famous tower. In case you’re not familiar with the language of Molière and Racine, here’s a brief summary. The tower was designed as part of the 1889 Universal Exposition; its construction began in January 1887, and was concluded in March 1889, only a few weeks before the inauguration of the exhibition. It was a veritable feat in engineering, to say the least.

Another must-see landmark is Notre Dame Cathedral. Although the real cathedral was tragically damaged in a fire on April 16th, 2019, bear in mind that the Paris you are visiting in SL is set in 1900, a time known as the Belle Époque, which explains not only the outfits of the people you’ll see around but also the name of the sim itself. So, as an SL resident, you get to enjoy a visit to an undamaged cathedral. And even if efforts are well underway to restore this gothic monument to its former glory, they are not expected to be completed before 2024. That’s one more reason you should take the time to visit Notre Dame in SL, if only to take some selfies in front of this historic building. And if you don’t belong to the selfiesnapping crowd, you will welcome the chance to pose for a real photographer at the footings of the Eiffel Tower.

If you turn right from that point, you’ll see the Arc de Triomphe, a monumental structure built on Napoleon’s orders to celebrate the triumphs of the French army. But History, alas, had a different plan, and the building of the arch was completed 30 years later, under Louis Philippe’s reign.

Paris is a city that can be visited and enjoyed on foot, mainly to appreciate and absorb the myriad of small details of art and refinement embedded everywhere you turn your eyes. But if you don’t feel like walking, you may take a tour of the city on board a tramway. You will enjoy not only the beauties that will parade in front of you, but also get an explanation of the most important landmarks as you pass by. These explanations, mind you, are both in French and English. But if you have a particular destination in mind, then you should take a taxi that will swiftly and gently take you to the desired place. The ride is free, of course, but a tip is always welcome and would show your appreciation for all the good work done here. And if you’re feeling more adventurous and would like to explore the city by yourself, you may drive one of the several free cars that you’ll find scattered through the city.

If you don’t have enough time to visit all the historic places, you should make some time to visit the Catacombs at least, a veritable labyrinth in the heart of underground Paris. Its story is fascinating and has been the basis for novels, movies, and of course, innumerable legends. You’ll find the entrance to this captivating place on one side of Notre Dame. You may want to rez a raft and take the tour, where you’ll have the chance to admire the macabre place and listen to its story.

But by all means, don’t let me spoil the pleasure of finding out by yourself. Set your mode to fun and point your teleporter to Paris. It will be an experience you’ll never forget!
