We are well into summer now, and I am super excited to show you some of the amazing new items from the talented SL designers and creators. They are going all out this summer, and there is creativity galore in stores and events this season. In fact, I am having trouble keeping up with all the fantastic new events out there! I spend most of my weekends exploring and sharing my Lindens with the creators.

However, as soon as I saw this floating pool house from Trompe Loeil, I knew I had to share it with all of you and make it the feature of my article this month. It is just stunning. I am tempted to live in it. The pool house comes with a self-installer and contains the built-in shelves and the little dock and ladder. Just rez and start decorating. Simple.

I was spoiled for choice this month with the poolside furniture, and I tried out a few sets before settling on what you see here today. The Gilli Loungers and Eggshell Cozy Nook from CHEZ MOI worked perfectly and blended nicely with the Poolside Chairs from Nutmeg. I had fun stalking The Arcade to get the chairs but was lucky to get what I wanted pretty quickly. Bonus.

I had fun decorating this space and mixing new and old items to get the look I wanted. I have also realised that I have a LOT of floatable items, and the difficulty was narrowing down which ones to use so someone could actually swim in the pool! I also loved adding the wee pupper in his little shark suit to the mix. Cuteness always works, and animals turn a house into a home.

The pool house is sitting in a build that my neighbour is currently terraforming and creating. The beach and rock walls were already there, but I threw some palm trees about to complete the scene and add some green. Little Branch items are so gorgeous, and they have an extensive range of palm trees. These are only a selection of their range.

Sailing, Boating, Yachting

and other stuff you didn’t know you can do in SL

If you haven’t sailed, boated, yachted, or used some sort of vehicle to ride the Linden waters, then you don’t know what you’ve been missing all this time. Now that summer is in full effect and a heat wave is giving a new meaning to the very concept of global warming, any activity that brings you close to the water and a refreshing breeze is more than welcome.

You have probably heard that sailing is a complicated hobby, some kind of trade just for the initiated, who even have their own lingo. That is partly true: yes, you need to learn how to tell between prow and stern, port and starboard, and some other specifics of the trade. But it is also true that in the sailing community, you’ll find many people willing and ready to help you join the ranks of this fascinating sport. And right there, you’ll find an added value: you’ll meet people, make friends, and always have someone to talk shop with.

There are several learning aides that can help you master this fascinating skill; for instance, Sailing in SL is an online blog that covers every aspect of the sport. The Second Life Wiki has also a page with a lot of useful resources you may want to check. You can find tutorials in-world, like the Sailing tutorial by Jilly and om Kikuchiyo.

As you should know by now, if you go sailing, you need to go shopping first— every activity and sport requires a specific outfit. Luckily for you, in case your budget isn’t too prosperous, chances are you already have some sort of swimwear in your inventory. Besides, many places offer a very decent selection of free outfits, thus dressing up for sailing shouldn’t be a hurdle or a burden for your pocket.

There are several places devoted to sailing, boating, or yachting, but you may want to find a place where

you can also purchase a boat since that’s the whole point of this exercise. Of course, you could go ahead and buy the best boat your budget can afford. But considering we’re just testing the waters, so to speak, it would be advisable to start with one of the many boats you can find for free. You won’t want to bleed your budget by buying a boat only to find later that sailing is not your thing. Although… why wouldn’t it be? You’re peacefully riding the waters; you’re feeling the saline breeze refreshing your scantily clothed body; in the distance, you hear the seagulls squawking; and you may even be able to spot a school of fish rushing underwater to their food source. Can you imagine a more de-stressing activity? That’s the question you’re going to answer after you try your hand at this exciting new hobby.

So, let’s start by getting a boat. There are several freebies around, of course, but you’ll find the Flying Fizz quite apt for beginners. You can get it at the Tradewinds Yacht Club, which also happens to be an excellent place to start. Everybody has rezzing privileges here, and there is an active group you can join to keep updated with all the activities, like cruises and races. Besides, this is home to a vibrant community of sailors who believe in human rights and their responsibility towards an Earth we need to protect. In short, it is a safe and welcoming place for everybody.

Now, rez the boat, board it, and you’ll be presented with a menu to choose the mode in which you want to sail.

We choose “Fun” mode for the time being; with practice and experience, we’ll explore the others. To start sailing, we need to raise the sails, so we say the magic word, “raise”, and the fun begins! You steer with the left and right arrows, trying to sail with the wind. How do you know where the wind is coming

from? The Flying Fizz has a built-in compass that shows you (in red). You’ll notice that when the red portion is at the top, the speed decreases because you’re sailing against the wind. Correspondingly, you’ll go faster when sailing with the wind. When you want to stop, issue the command “lower” to lower the sails.

Another advantage of the Flying Fizz is that it comes with a set of thorough instructions on a notecard that will guide you to more advanced levels. And of course, as a member of the group, you’ll be surrounded by numerous people willing to help you whenever you have a question or stumble on any problem.

Want to try something different?

Let’s go to Trudeau Classic Yachts, a store where you have the chance to demo every boat in their catalog. After you click the demo board and choose your boat, it will be rezzed ready for you to board. You will get a sailing HUD and a notecard with instructions to use it. After a while of sailing the high seas, who knows? Maybe you’ll decide this is your thing and buy your own boat at the store. If that’s the case, “fair winds and following seas!”

KAIDENTRAY LANDSCAPING SERVICES

Walking past townhouses, apartments, corner cafes, and subway stations, one realizes ‘Wandering, New York’ is aptly named. The massive layout is like a day in The Bronx, Queens, or any New York City feeder town along the Hudson River. An hour or day stroll is the easy part.

The hard part is believing the entire sim and almost everything in it were created by one person, Kaiden Tray. Believe it.

From skyscrapers to bungalows, The Big Apple suburbs and surrounding grounds come to life as an artist’s rendition of the mind, his mind. Kaiden can basically replicate anything that he can see in photo form, which is rather spectacular to think about.

Want a studio apartment? No problem. Need the apartment skyscraper? Done. How about building the entire city? On it.

New York is only the beginning. KaidenTray Landscaping Services' projects are throughout the metaverse. His work includes fishing villages, cafes, shopping malls, and the campus grounds of BOSL. The calendar stays full.

In addition to building buildings, and landscaping lands, the company offers rental homes, retail outlets, cafes, and a book club. Open mic activities, meetings, and other gatherings are readily available.

“Our intention for ‘Wandering, NY’ (Kaiden’s crown jewel) is to have multiple arts and various communities come together,” says Pandora Ceridwen Tray, Kaiden’s real life and Second Life’s partner and the business’ co-owner. “We didn’t only want homes; we wanted activities for people to do.”

The tour continues: “This is our art exhibit. At the

moment, the chosen displays are purchasable pieces by the creator.” Walking through winding streets, she notes, “And here is our residential area. Our brownstones and apartments are available for

In contrast to the hustle and bustle of pixeled NYC, there is a quiet place – Aurora Garden, Moon Lair Taste of Norway. And the taste of coffee is good, too. Come in for a sip.

Kaiden’s relaxing sim creation features a good cup of joe, pastries, and sitting areas for a quiet chat with friends. You can almost smell the java, which is by design.

KaidenTray Landscaping Services is Kaiden’s real-life job, too. He developed artistic skills as a boy, and came to SL with a desire to create. He is self-taught, and his style is basically to paint the landscape digitally.

SL’s landscaper of note uses real-life references, places, and images to create his style. Kaiden explains that his mind sees the landscaping like a painting, or a scene. He creates it as though he was drawing it.

The landscape artist studies the location and creates the layout first in his mind. He considers the client’s preferences, images, and vision. Once that is done, creation occurs.

The edges of the design are filled first, as though creating a photo, painting a picture, or forming a puzzle. Then he works inward to create the desired landscape.

Interested buyers can purchase his cottages or skyscrapers and suggest modifications to personalize the build.

Pandora adds about her partner, “Kaiden does something different from other landscapers. He does not go block by block to landscape. He moves everything into the air and creates, forming one whole scene, so that it flows.”

Potential clients complete a form. They are asked to provide photos that inspire their vision. Kaiden works best from visuals.

From concept to creation depends on the scope of cyber work. On average, homesteads and half-sims take about one to two days maximum. Full sims, depending on the complexity, may take an average of two to four days.

Landscaping trends change, and new trends emerge— often quickly.

“Clients seem to follow major trends set from social media,” says Pandora. “Lately, there has been an interest in Bali because of the resorts featured in Second Life’s Highlife destinations. However, mostly whatever is passed along by social media becomes a trend. A month ago, it was rainforests.”

There is also much interest in ‘Cottage Core', a style of countryside, cottage-like creations. But the landscaper has seen it all. “Being this is Kaiden’s full-time job, he has done countless landscapes,” adds Pandora. “In any given month, his calendar is usually full every day.”

He does the creative side of their business and she oversees administration. “I help and support in whatever way I can,” she says. “I started working as his CSR for his landscaping company.

I communicate with clients, schedule projects, and organize his schedule. He focuses on the art, and I handle everything else and give my feedback when needed.”

With projects great and small, Second Life’s duo of landscaping is building a business in both worlds. In parks, towns, and villages from sim to shining sim, their hard work is our gain and a good place to be.

A new moon : SHAPING THE FUTURE OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Moon Mamma is better known as the Finesse of Photography. Moon brings her core skills from being a real-life photographer into this virtual space. Her inspiration comes from different muses: color, a dream, music, and even down to purchasing a new wig.

Creativity comes in many forms; Moon takes her subjects and places them in the middle of a room with a single light to capture the most amazing works of art you have ever seen. It doesn’t matter the subject— a person, pet, or object, shade and colors, light, lines, curves, textures. She focuses in, sees the vision, and creates the fantasy; dares to break the rules and make her own.

The world holds so much beauty, which is one of the reasons Moon loves to shoot in real-life landscapes and Macro Flowers; in this virtual world, Moon has fallen in love with conceptual and lifestyle photography. “In-world, you can build anything and turn it into a visual to share. When working in real life, Moon’s style is weddings, lifestyle, and landscape; all work is done digitally using a Nikon d700.

Challenges do come to this photographer. The comfort zone always finds its way back in, and Moon refuses to become the status quo and pushes her way through to stepping out and trying new ideas; one is to get more involved in Editorial photography.

Moon is by no means an amateur; she has graced many real-life magazines and newspapers. She has set a goal for herself to create a black-and-white coffee table book of her photos in real life. In the virtual setting, Moon would love to create a gallery for her work as well as represent others.

Moon’s passion, purpose, and wanting to help others with their photography skills have led her to create a photography academy here in Second Life. She calls it her “metaverse baby.” She would notice others’ work and say to herself, “this would be awesome if they angled it this way or put a light to make it POP.” Moon is autistic, and before opening her academy had some doubts about teaching her first group of students. She was worried if they would understand, if her pace was slow enough, was her humor too much, or would she rub someone the wrong way. However, she worked through her fears and found that on the other side of fear was the success of her sharing and teaching on a subject she is so extremely passionate about in both worlds. She found herself not teaching, just having a conversation about something she is in love with. Moon creates a learning environment of peace and tranquility, but don’t get her twisted: she will be hard because she sees the potential in you. With Moon, you will learn composition, lighting, photo enhancement, and a few fun things in between. Ad work is part of her repertoire, so it depends on what the students want to walk away with for their success. She ensures that you leave her with the skills to make a remarkable photographer— I know, because I was one of her students.

Dear Visitors,

As a teenager I was bored of the numerous and nowadays important exhibits my parents brought me to. I only had eyes for the charismatic, bad-boy painters and the performance artists showing their weird and upsetting stuff owing to their pacts with the devil. This fascination never left me.....

Driven by the emotional search for the best life's colors, I found my way and went on painting traditionally -- classic and figurative, mainly with water colors. The work is shaped by nature, melancholy, madness and hope. Latest I am fascinated by architecture and underwater worlds. My skyscrapers and houses are real and my seahorses in love will have further company, soon.

I did several exhibitions in RL in small cafés , like BOSL :) and in SL I participated at Artists against Ukraine War and had the honor to show my paintings at La Maison d*Aneli 2022. Normally I just hang my uploaded paintings and objects in Room 19, my atelier in SL and the Adobe Gallery, for friends and the ones who are interested.
