The days are getting warmer and longer, so it is time to get out and about in Second Life to enjoy all the fantastic places it offers.

My favourite SL places are very similar to my favourite RL places. They all involve coffee. So, in honor of cafes everywhere, I am taking you on a coffee hop and paying homage to some of the most gorgeous, caffeinated places and settings.

First on our tour is Books and Coffee, which also adds to another of my RL passions, so this place grabbed me when I first saw it. It is located in Nederlandse Bergen and is a walk over the bridge from the teleport spot. This place definitely has a Netherlands vibe, with bikes everywhere! Grab a coffee and sit outside to enjoy the ambiance. No inside seating at this cafe!

Next up is Dulla Centre Eco Coffee, located on the Gardulla sim. Loads of outdoor seating, but you can also grab a seat inside if that is more your thing. Loads of eco-friendly items here and a vast selection of food choices if you are feeling peckish. I love the rustic feel and would love to sit here and listen to live music while I sample all of the different coffee selections.

Books, Coffee, & Chairs - Oh My! is next on our tour ,and I had trouble with this photo as this place has so many pictureworthy spots and angles. From the teleport spot, you walk over the paddle bridges to the main island area, and already, I could have taken photos before I even got near the cafe. When you finally drag yourself away from the locale and into the cafe, you will find plenty of seating inside and out. I love the mismatched furniture and the old-fashioned cosy feel to the interior.

The aptly named ‘Jitters’ is next on our hop and is a very picturesque spot with a treehouse on one side and a florists shop on the other. There are loads of outdoor seating here, which is good because this is not where you would sit inside. The vista is gorgeous and the perfect place to hang out with your friends or to just enjoy some ‘you’ time. There is a range of furniture to choose from, so you can be comfy while you watch the cute critters scurrying about.

Spring is here at the Rainy Cafe, so leave your umbrella at the door and find a warm, dry spot inside. Lounge on the couches, sink into a bean bag, or find a table to work at because this cafe has a space for every visitor. Make sure you grab a coffee and a pastry first, then settle in and watch the rain fall outside - a gorgeous setting and a place to sit and stay for a while.

The Dancing Rabbit Cafe is following up on our tour and is, as it says in the ad, full of whimsy and, of course, rabbits. They are everywhere and are just as cute as can be. If you are sitting outside, you should also be able to spot a few other animal species roaming about, and you can feed all of them! If you don’t feel like getting close to nature, you can grab a book from the bookcase, settle into a comfy chair by the fire ,and read while you drink your coffee. Perfect.

Lastly, I have one for the Southern Hemisphere folks that I couldn’t leave out. While you NH peeps are heading into spring, remember that the other half of the world is enjoying the colors and smells of autumn, so I had to include The Autumn Cafe on this tour. It also means that if you are like me and love fall, you can come here anytime to enjoy the season whenever you want. Grab a coffee, find a comfortable spot inside, upstairs or down, or outside overlooking the sea and you can settle in and wile away the hours on your own or with a friend.

So, there we have it; my selection of coffee spots in Second Life. I could have shown you so many more, but drink so much coffee in one day! Take a look at the Destination search for all of these places and those I couldn’t get to!

The Mother Experience

May delivers Nature’s promise of renovation. The long, cold, and dark winter months are definitely gone, and all around us, flowers are blossoming, trees are starting to grow new leaves, and birds are returning from their winter migration. In short, Life is abuzz, and our moods couldn’t be jollier.

May also brings Mother’s Day, the annual celebration of the person whose love and care, unwavering love, support, and sacrifices make possible the continuation of Life. The earliest known celebration of mothers can be traced back to ancient Greece. The Greeks celebrated Rhea, the mother of all gods and goddesses, with a spring festival that honored mothers and motherhood. This festival was known as Cybele, and it was held in mid-March.

In the 16th century, Christians in Europe celebrated a holiday known as Mothering Sunday. This holiday was celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent and was a day when people would visit their “mother” church, which was the main church in the area where they were baptized. It was also when domestic servants were given the day off to visit their families, including their mothers. The servants would often bring a gift of flowers or a small cake as a token of their appreciation.

The modern version of Mother’s Day that we celebrate today was created by Anna Jarvis on May 10th, 1908, in Grafton, West Virginia. Jarvis was a social activist who wanted to honor her mother, Ann Jarvis.

After the success of the first Mother’s Day, Jarvis began campaigning to make the holiday a national holiday. She formed the Mother’s Day International Association and lobbied Congress to create a national holiday in honor of mothers. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation

making the second Sunday in May the official day for Mother’s Day in the United States.

Since then, many other countries have adopted the holiday and celebrated it on various dates. However, in many countries, the second Sunday of May remains the most widely recognized and celebrated date for Mother’s Day.

Over time, May has become strongly associated with motherhood and honoring mothers due to the widespread celebration of Mother’s Day during that month. As a result, May has come to be seen as a time for celebrating and showing appreciation for mothers’ vital role in our lives.

Being a mother has been defined as a biological urge to guarantee the survival of the human species but also as a societal role imposed upon women who may not always want to assume it. Of course, becoming a mother is a very private and personal decision, and every woman may have the motivation to bear a child.

The same logic applies to motherhood in Second Life, naturally. Why would you incur expenses and assume the responsibility of raising a child when you have trouble figuring out things for yourself? Well, as I said, every woman may have a different reason to embark on the journey of motherhood, but there might be a common reason for most: kids are so cute! Just take a look at the pictures. Aren’t they adorable? Oh, God, yes, they are, and I dare you to visit one of those stores without feeling the urge to take home every one of them.

There are several ways of getting pregnant and delivering a baby in Second Life. Getting a child avatar may be the easiest way: in this case, you are the kid. Or better yet, someone else is the kid, and you may role-play as the mother. This method has

the upside in that, by rearing and caring for your baby, you’ll be confronted with a natural person with their wishes, expectations, and wants. Just like in Real Life, right? If that’s the kind of challenge you’re looking for in motherhood, point your teleporter to the Zooby Store, bring the friend who will be transformed into your kid, pick your favorite model, and start experiencing right away the joys and pains of bringing up a baby.

If you don’t have a friend willing to role-play as your kid, then you should pick an anime baby. In this case, you start, as expected, with a newborn baby, which you will upgrade to a bigger kid later.

At this store, you will find babies, clothing, and furniture for them. Also, join the group to get your help in this incredible journey. Before entering the store, you should stuff your wallet since items aren’t cheap. But, of course, the joys and wonders of mother hood have no price.

But what if your style is more elaborate, and you want to experience motherhood as God intended? In that case, you need Mama Allpa, a HUD that will help you “become a real woman,” as the ad promises. This is achieved by adding the missing bit to making love in Second Life: the joy (and risk!) of getting pregnant. If you go this way, you’ll need a partner who should be wearing the corresponding male HUD. Mama Allpa is one of the best-established pregnancy methods. Using it puts you in touch with hundreds of users who, on both sides of the sex divide, are willing to experience the wonders and satisfactions of parenthood.

You may be wondering what happens after you get pregnant. You visit your doctor for a checkup

to ensure things are going as they should. Second Life has several fertility and maternity clinics since this is a thriving sector of our economy. If you want to save the trouble and hassle of finding one, check The Family Center, which offers different packages that will make you feel pampered and well taken for as it behooves your role as a mother. But be sure to check Hands-on Care, the premier, the largest, and most realistic virtual Maternity Clinic, which offers several packages you may check on its website

As you may see, in Second Life, there is no lack of opportunities to become a mother. And that’s understandable if you consider that, as the Persian poet Rumi said, “We are born of love; Love is our mother.”

Welcome to

HILLVALE

One of the opening scenes of 1982’s Blade Runner is a crowded street in futuristic Los Angeles. A loudspeaker optimistically announces, “A new life awaits you in the offworld colonies! The chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure!” It’s a statement that very quickly could be talking about Second Life, too, since many have found adventure and opportunity while logged in. It also could have been speaking directly to Lauren Bentham, who doesn’t just explore worlds; she creates them.

Her adventure began on a rainy March day in 2006. She logged into Second Life for the first time just to “see what it was about” and recalls, “I had no clue what I was doing, and to start with, I just explored other sims and places.” It wasn’t long before she bought her first parcel of land where she could “mess around with prims.” Her first official build was one of Second Life’s first haunted houses, and she was soon creating whole sims. Now, she has three active builds SL residents can visit.

One is called Everwinter – a decaying amusement park reminiscent of Pripyat and filled with the dead (and not so dead). The other two have a beach theme called Baja Coast and Baja Coast

2. Both sims offer visitors a laid-back, relaxing experience with sun, sand, and surf. Some beach houses are also available for those thinking of making their stay in either of these communities more permanent. Regardless of which sim you visit, one thing remains the same: Each one was meticulously planned out and built with both care and attention to detail.

For her latest build, Hillvale, which opened in March 2023, she was “working 10 to 14 hours per day on it with the occasional day off”. Even with that amount of dedication, the project took about six weeks, from the drawing board to her opening it to the public. Even more incredible? The final build is not the result of a collaborative effort with others: “I build all my sims alone and always have done since the very first one.”

For Hillvale, she chose to go in a different creative direction from her previous builds. She is a “big fan of the movies Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049” and a fan of Cyberpunk-themed places in Second Life. Those influences are seen from the minute one rezzes onto the sim.

From the towering skyscrapers to the flying vehicles, the street vendors and Japanese signs and billboards, brand names emblazoned everywhere, and neon ticker-tape sign, it’s like stepping onto a Blade Runner set. But if you walk further on, you will almost step into a time warp that takes you to the 1940s and 50s with vintage cars, a drive-in, and Art Deco architecture. When in this part of the sim, depending on the time of day one visits, it could just be another retro sim where you would expect greasers and bobby soxer hanging out having burgers and milkshakes. It could also be a nod to the original Blade Runner’s film noir elements, as that genre had its golden age in that era.

Therein lies the genius of the sim’s design. It has a little bit of something for everyone, and like Baja Coast, it offers rentals for those who want

to immerse themselves further. When asked if there is regular roleplay, she states there is “no particular roleplay system, but people are more than welcome to roleplay while at the sim.”

Matt was born at a young age.

As a child he was a lonely sad young thing.

His mother was in labor with him for so long, she was shaved twice till the midwife removed her tights and, pop, there he was.

He was frequently alone and his only companion, Kitty the identity crisis dog, would only lick his face if he was covered in sausage meat.

His mum would feed him his meals using a slingshot.

Even officialdom would neglect him by refusing him a birth certificate and his only acknowledgment of his sad beginning was a note from a condom maker that started with the words:

“OMG WERE SOOOO SORRY…”

His school days were no better. He got into college only to be used as a shelf. In a vain attempt to gain validity he offered his body to science and science rejected it.

So he entered the long dark coffee time of the soul and became an artist, so poor the mice would picket the traps in his two bedroom tent.

Then one day he had an epiphany, but tablets cleared that up and he vowed to lay off curry.

He would enter Second Life, a land free of vagina candles and Greta Thunbergs BO .

His art would become like Tourettes on a canvas, no meaning , no reason no profound mind set just stuff on a canvas ( and yes I do this R L to) artists that paint abstract and say pretentious stuff like this is Granny dreaming of rogering Bugs Bunny while watching big Bird lap dancing on the Cookie monster while the Ghost of Prince sings we are the world in Turkish irritate me so much what’s wrong with just saying it’s a fit of color, that just wants to please the eye, warm the soul and clear the colon.

So here I am, bad mesh and all, he doesn't care who he is, what he does, or that he farts.
