THE SOUND OF THE OVERCOMER Taylur Holland
The sound of an Overcomer Is trumpeting through the land. Can you hear it? Can you know it? There is restoration that has yet to find Its places of rest, and The hands that it is meant to unite. Come Overcomer, And be not weary. Be not dismayed Because the Father sees. He knows, And He is your Conqueror, Your great reward. Come Overcomer, And be not delayed. Be not hindered by the past you have known And the future you have not yet known. Hear the cry of the Intercessor and respond. Feel the resurrection power of the King and
know That all is well. The sound of the Overcomer Dances across the land. That which has been out of place Shall be put into place. That which has been misaligned Shall be aligned. He who has been misunderstood shall be heard, For his sound rides the vocal cords of Humility. She that has been hidden Shall come forth and declare the word of the Lord. Overcomer, be not dismayed. You are not forgotten. You are not forgotten. Victory is yours, Says the Lord.

THE ART OF MEDITATION By Kimberly Moses Today’s Scripture for meditation: Joshua 1:8 says, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Everyone in life will face challenging times. During these moments, we might want to quit and walk away from everything or everyone. However, God’s Word encourages us to hold on to the promises and keep on standing in faith. Anything worth having will take hard work and investment. I learned that I appreciate the things that I invested in. With every season in my life, I face a new milestone. I encounter warfare such as demonized people, lack of support or resources, and many distractions, but I have to meditate on the words that the Lord spoke to me and continue on this journey. Whenever we meditate on the Word of God, we gain strength, and there is a supernatural exchange. Our doubt is replaced by faith in God. Instead of being tempted to give up during the tough times, we press forward. When we reflect on everything that the Word of God says throughout the day and apply it to our lives, we will succeed. Look around. You may be broke right now, but the Word promises wealth. You may be sick right now, but the Word promises good health.
You may be waiting on the harvest, but the Word tells us that there is an appointed time that the harvest will come. God desires to bless you. Take a stand today, and take control of your thoughts. Meditate all day so you can have GOOD success. Dear Heavenly Father, I exalt You! I will continue to look to You for Your promises are Yes and Amen. I refuse to be bound because You promise freedom. I want to experience Your freedom in a new way. I declare that I will meditate on Your Word so that I will have good success. I prophesy over my destiny as I walk in the Spirit of Excellence, blessings will be magnetized to me. I will forever give You praise in Jesus’ name. Amen.

LATTES, CAPPUCCINOS, MACCHIATOS, AND FRAPPUCCINOS The coffee industry is booming. There are many coffee shops worldwide. Now we have the luxury of making a cup of coffee that tastes as good as the popular chains right in the comfort of our homes. As you scroll down the aisle of your favorite grocer, you are presented with many options: creamers, foams, instant, whole bean, etc. We will compare my favorite drinks and learn how to make them. If you are willing to invest in a machine, get the ingredients, then you are on your way to experiencing a cup of deliciousness. Artisan Coffee Access breaks down the differences between latte, cappuccino, Macchiato, and Frappuccino’s. All these drinks are hot except Frappuccino’s, the trademark drink of Starbucks. When you go to Starbucks, Frappuccino’s are like a cold milkshake, topped with whip cream, and extra flavors like caramel or mocha. The milk and expresso content vary in these drinks. Below are the varies ratios to the espresso and milk content of each drink that gives the signature tastes. •
• •
Cappuccino – 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, 1/3 foamed milk Latte – 1/6 espresso, 4/6 steamed milk, 1/6 foamed milk Mochaccino – 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, 1/3 frothed milk, one tablespoon of chocolate syrup

ASIA DOSREIS-WHITEHEAD Interviewed by Kimberly Moses
Interviewer: Thanks for accepting our invite today. Apostle Demontae Edmonds told me a little bit about your testimony. He told me that you had Guillain Barre Syndrome and that your spiritual mother prayed for you.
for about three years before I learned a new song.
Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Absolutely. I’m honored for the opportunity. I always love to take advantage of any opportunity to tell my story. Also, I want people to know that God still heals. He is still a miracle worker.
Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I was raised in the church, I thank God for that upbringing. Sunday school, prayer, and Bible study is my foundation. That’s really how I learned to read the Bible. It was a part of our routine growing up. My parents weren’t always saved. My parents were from Brownsville, Brooklyn. A little rougher part of Brooklyn. You know, they did what they had to do to survive, to make it, and to live. It wasn’t always legal, but they did what they had to do. When God called my parents to kind of give up the lifestyle they were living and forsake everything else, it was some rough times for our family financially. We went from having everything to literally not having a lot at all.
Interviewer: How did you get started in ministry? How were you called into ministry? Were you raised in the church? How did it happen? Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I was definitely raised in the church. I actually started singing in the church. I’m from Brooklyn, New York. I started singing in the church when I was five years old. It was by accident. The mics were left on and my mom, who was the secretary of our church, was downstairs in a Tuesday night routine meeting. Myself and some of the other children were upstairs playing and trying to kill time because our parents were all in the meeting. The microphones were left on and I began to sing and I was only five years old. Everybody started to run upstairs, and was asking, “Who was that singing?” It was me! My pastor, the late Bishop Clarence Keaton, would give me his microphone every Sunday and I only knew one song, and that was “Safe In His Arms.” I only knew that one song. Those were the only words I could remember at that time. He would give me his microphone every Sunday to sing that song and I sang that song
Interviewer: Wow, that’s awesome. That’s beautiful!
Interviewer: Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: But God was so gracious and He was always so faithful. The younger children, myself and my younger sister, didn’t really feel it. We didn’t really know we didn’t have a lot because my parents just always made it happen. Interviewer: My husband is actually from Bed Stuy. I think he came down in 1996. When you said Brownsville, I said wow! He told me about that.

Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Yes, not far from Bed Stuy at all. I was raised in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
do with me. In fact, they asked my family for permission to put me in a medically induced coma, because they didn’t expect me to live. I just was so sober, you know. I was just thinking about so many other things that I still needed God to do. So many other pots that I could still have on the stove. God began to say to me, “I know you’re worried about tomorrow but don’t forget about yesterday. Don’t forget about the miracles that I performed for you yesterday, the days past, and just four years ago when you could not walk. When you were paralyzed from the head down and you could not even blink your eye.” I said, “You know what God, I am going to run with that.” So my passion now is to make sure that my life is a living example for everyone who will listen or anyone that will come in contact with me. God is a healer, He’s a miracle worker, He’s a keeper, and He’s a rewarder of them who diligently seek Him.
Interviewer: Yes Lord! Interviewer: What is your passion? What keeps you going when times get tough? Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Sometimes we find ourselves in places where we get into a little Asia DosReis-Whitehead: You know its so bit of trouble, but it’s for the glory of God. I funny because I woke up on April fourth. had to really change my perspective when Now, April 4, 2015, was the day I was admitI was going through that situation with my ted to the hospital for all of this. I had a little health. I had to understand that I was literally four year anniversary, this past April fourth. just trusted with trouble. I was trusted with It was just a few days ago. I became so overthat level of affliction. I was trusted with that whelmed. Yes, I was so grateful. I was just trouble because God saw something in me excited to celebrate the day and because that could endure that.; that could endure the Brooklyn borough president, actually complete paralysis. You understand what I’m declared April fourth in Brooklyn, ”You Are A trying to say? Champion Day.” That’s also the name of my empowerment network, “You Are A ChamInterviewer: Yes. pion Empowerment Network.” Asia DosReis-Whitehead: April 4, 2015, that Interviewer: Great! was a Saturday, and that was actually the day before Easter that year. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Of course, I was excited to celebrate that, but I was just so Interviewer: Jesus. overwhelmed and really just quiet on that day because I started to think about where Asia DosReis-Whitehead: The Wednesday of I could have been and where I should have that week, I had begun to feel numbness and been. That was the day I was admitted to the tingling in my fingers and toes. hospital and the doctors didn’t know what to

REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
Interviewer: Wow! So that was like a sign! What happened? How did it all happen? Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Yes, so I had numbness and tingling in my fingers and toes. I was feeling very weak and not like myself at all. As the days went on, it began to progress. The numbness and tingling began to move up my legs. Interviewer: Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: It moved up from my hands to my arms. I became very unstable in my walking and in standing and even holding things. My grip and grasp began to be very weak. I did have a cold and I did have allergies. You know, its allergy season in April. I thought that it was attributed to that. So I went to see my private doctor on that Friday, and the doctor told me that I had the flu. She
prescribed me antibiotics and so I went home. The next day, which was that Saturday, April fourth, I went to use the restroom and when I could not activate my legs to lift me up off of the seat, I knew something was wrong and that it was just not the flu. I had to ask my dad, I was living with my parents at the time, to come and pick me up. He had to carry me. I was a grown woman in my thirties. He had to carry me from the restroom to my bedroom and sit me on the bed. I sat on the edge of the bed, and I began to cry. I said dad, something is wrong and it’s not just the flu. My mind is telling me, “We need to call the ambulance because if this continues, I don’t know what’s going to happen.” So he called my mom, as a dad would, instead of the ambulance. He called my mom, and my mom said, “Call the ambulance and I will meet you at the hospital.” Well the hospital, Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, was a 15-minute ambulance ride from my home to the hospital. By the time I got to the hospital, I had no activity at all. No feeling and no movement from the waist down. Interviewer: So it was rapid? Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: It was extremely rapid. The progression was extremely rapid.

“
I was trusted with that trouble because God saw something in me that could endure that.; that could endure complete paralysis.
”
I began to tell the doctors what I was feeling and they asked me all sorts of questions. They wanted to know if I had traveled overseas. If I had been bitten by any bugs or insects. They wanted to kinda grasp some kind of explanation of what was going on with me. They couldn’t understand it. I thank God because we never know when or where God has placed angels for us. There was a doctor who was actually off duty at the time. He was preparing to leave. He was in plain clothes and had gotten out of his scrubs, but he was outside of my curtain. He was outside of the room where the doctors were discussing all of my symptoms and trying to come up with a plan of action or just a plan for testing and
further testing and the doctor heard them talking about my symptoms. He himself came into the room, dressed normally and regularly. He said, “I’m off duty but I just need you to tell me what’s going on with you again.” When I began to tell him, he said, “You know, I just came back from a conference and I learned about a new condition. It’s an autoimmune condition and I think you have it.” He then said, “I want to give you an emergency spinal tap, right here, and I’m going to do it myself,” he continued, “and I want to test you for this protein and if you’re positive for this protein in your spinal tap, then I believe that you have Guillain Barre Syndrome. I know you haven’t heard of it because it’s very rare and it only happens to about one in a hundred thousand people.” Interviewer: Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: He said, “We doctors only see it maybe once or twice in our entire medical profession.” I said wow! I was very nervous and didn’t quite understand at the time. I did test positive for that particular protein and they began to come up with a plan of action. Now what they let us know is that it can be fatal. Eighty percent of people who have had it has expired. They did not make it through and worse, if some of them did make it through, there were a lot of people who have remained paralyzed. This is an autoimmune disease, and what it’s designed to do is attack your peripheral nervous system and cause your immune system to completely go out of whack. Your body produces antibodies fights diseases and colds. My body began to produce too many antibodies and so my body began to fight itself. Interviewer: Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: It shut down my entire nervous system, which rendered me completely paralyzed from the head down. Interviewer: My God.
25

REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
Asia DosReis-Whitehead: In the less severe circumstances and instances of this particular condition people are paralyzed from the waist down, some people have partial paralysis, but mine was more advanced and more severe and it rendered me completely paralyzed. So the doctors were afraid that I would lose my ability to contract my lungs on my own and I would not be able to breathe. I was tested every three hours on a daily basis. I had to breathe through a tube to make sure I was breathing at the capacity and did not need to be incubated. When my breathing became labored, it was so funny. I was completely paralyzed, yet I was in pain and I don’t know how that works. I was paralyzed but in pain. I know that God took me through this whole process for a reason, because sometimes some things happen to us in our lives, where we are paralyzed in our spirits and were paralyzed in our minds, yet we still feel the pain of it. We still feel the pain of what paralyzed us. You understand?
“ They asked
my family for permission to put me in a medically induced coma, because they didn’t expect me to live.
”
Interviewer: Yes. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: We still feel the pain of that traumatic relationship or that traumatic situation or something that may have happened to us in our past or childhood that renders us paralyzed. We were not able to move past it but we still feel the pain of it. The Lord took me through that physically so I could understand what was happening spiritually. I was feeling pain and the doctors asked my family for permission to put me in an induced coma. What they said was that it was no guarantee that they would be able to bring me out of the coma. Interviewer: Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: That was one of the drawbacks. I thank God for my mom who is an awesome woman of God. She’s a Pastor, and she’s a Prophet. She’s a very well learned woman of God. She herself has come through five open-heart surgeries. She had a mechanical heart valve. The doctor’s told her she wasn’t going to live, so we have a basis in my family where we believe in the miracle-working power of God because it’s active in our lineage and in our bloodline. It’s active in our family history. So they did not allow the doctors to put me in a state that God didn’t allow my body to go into. So the doctors said, “you know, well if you don’t allow us to put her in this coma and if she’s going to die, don’t you want her to die peacefully?” Interviewer: Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: “We need to put her in this coma so we can at least control this state that she’s in. We can’t guarantee that she’s going to live. We don’t expect her to come out of this because she’s so far gone and this has progressed so rapidly. We didn’t have a chance to kinda stop its progression.” My family said, “We just have to trust God.” A lot of that time, those initial days in the hospital, is really a fog to me because I was
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
in the hospital room coughing uncontrollably and feeling like I was dying. I said to my family, to my mom. I said, “Mommy, I need to hear from the prophet.” My godmother is Dr. Juanita Bynum. She’s been in my life from the time I was a very little girl. I remember watching her tapes over and over again. I would have over my friends from school and watch her tapes. Her voice was one that I truly trusted and truly followed.
very incoherent. I didn’t really know what was going on, but they decided to trust God. There was one particular time, maybe a week or so after, I really don’t know the time frame, I know it wasn’t long after I was admitted, I was dying. I literally felt my life leaving me. It’s just like what happens in the movies when you see someone and their life is expiring. They begin to spit up white foam and their breathing becomes labored. I began to cough uncontrollably and I was spitting up white foam and it was as if my spirit had left my body and it was sitting on top of the room to where I could see myself laying in the hospital bed coughing uncontrollably. I can still see the vision of it to this day. I can still see myself
I tell everyone now when I minister and do motivational speaking around the world that when you are in a trial or in a situation, your destiny is connected to a voice. That’s why it’s so important for us to be connected to a house of worship, to a man or woman of God, to a mentor, or someone who can stir us in pivotal times in our lives because your destiny and your next move of purpose are always going to be connected to a voice. A trusted voice that God uses in your life. For me, that voice was Dr. Bynum. Even though my parents were a great man and woman of God, I knew that they were emotionally connected to the situation with me being their natural daughter. I needed to hear from someone who was unbiased and who could hear from heaven for me. So they called her and got her on the phone. I needed to ask for myself. I mustered up the last bit of breath I had and I asked, “Am I going to die?” She hung up the phone on me immediately.
27
28
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
Interviewer: Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Her version of the story is that she couldn’t hear anything but God. She had to get out of her emotions with me being her goddaughter. She couldn’t hear me speak any longer, she said. She immediately had to go into prayer. She had to go before God to hear Him clearly. She called back about thirty minutes later and she asked my family to put the phone to my ear. “Not only will you walk again, but you will run again.” The Lord said, “He would get glory out of this situation and that He will use your life as a testament and as a testimony to His miracleworking power. He would take this story and this testimony all around the world to be a light to people who need to know that God is still a healer and miracle worker and that there is nothing too hard for Him.” Interviewer: Amen. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I said to her at that moment, “Then that’s what I will believe.” I needed something to hold onto. You have to understand, I was in the middle. I was caught in between two truths because what the doctor said was true. According to everything they study, according to their professional medical history, I am not supposed to be alive today. I was supposed to have died. That disease, Guillain Barre Syndrome, had progressed to the point where others did not make it out alive. It had progressed to the point to where I was experiencing complete paralysis. I could not wash myself. I could not turn over in the bed. I could not even blink my eyes. They had to put tape over my eyes at night and give me medicine for me to sleep. I couldn’t close my eyes. I couldn’t even close my eyelids. All of the nerves in my body were inactive. The nerves that made my lips talk and made them move to form words were inactive. The nerves in my throat that enable you to swallow were inactive. Do you understand what I’m saying?
Interviewer: Yes. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I’m literally not supposed to be here. That is the truth of the situation, the Bible says, “When the Spirit of Truth comes, it will guide you into all truth.” I know that choosing the Spirit of Truth, which is the Holy Spirit, is a conscious decision and I needed to know which decision to make. So, when I heard the word of the Lord from the woman of God, I had to make a conscious decision. Despite what I felt, despite what my body was experiencing naturally, I had to decide in my mind that I was going to believe God over the truth that I was presented with naturally. Interviewer: How long were you in the hospital? Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I was in Methodist Hospital for about a month and a half. Then I was transferred out of that hospital to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan for another month and a half. Interviewer: Wow. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I was transferred there for their rehab program. It’s so funny because you know you would normally think, “Ok. I’m going to rehab. They’re going to teach me how to walk.” Well, in my chart, it said that I would not be able to walk. So, I was literally being taught how to live a handicapped lifestyle. I was being taught how to transfer myself from the wheelchair to the bed. I was being taught how to transfer myself from the wheelchair to the commode and how to put socks on with sticks, by throwing my arms through the stick and pulling it up as best as I could. I began to tell the doctors, “I don’t want to learn how to live handicapped because this is not what God promised me.” Interviewer: Right. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: God promised me that He was going to heal me and if I accept learning to live in any other way then what
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
God promised me, that’s not showing that I have faith in Him. So, when I began to tell the doctors that God was going to heal me and that I believed God, they sent a psychiatrist to my room. Interviewer: Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: They assigned a psychiatrist to me. The psychiatrist came in and said, “You’re in denial and I’m here to help you work through that because your life is never going to be the same again. You lived past the expected date. We’re happy about that, however, you need to come to terms with the fact that your life will never be the same again.” I put the psychiatrist out of the room. Interviewer: Yes, I know that’s right. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I told her I didn’t need her services, but I also told her that she wasn’t God and that one day I was going to walk past her and she wouldn’t recognize me. When I made myself known to her, I said, “That’s the day I need for you to make another commitment as a medical professional and to never tell another patient what they’ll never do because God holds everything in His hands. Your books only tell half of it. They don’t tell all of it, because God holds all of it.” So, that was that, and it was a very longdrawn-out process. Even when I was sent home from the hospital, I still could not walk. I was still paralyzed. I was able to sit up without being strapped to the chair at that point, thank God. I was able to swallow, thank God, but my face was still twisted. I still could not hold anything, open a bottle, or brush my teeth. I still could not walk, I was still paralyzed. I remember I was very depressed. There was a particular day when my father, who was a boxer trainer, came into my room and I wouldn’t allow them to open the blinds or turn on the lights in the room because I was in a state of depression, even though I was still waiting for my miracle. Naturally, I was depressed. My human side was depressed. My spirit believed God, but my flesh had grown
“ She herself

”
so weak and just tired of the process. I make it a point to make sure that I always include that when I tell my testimony because it’s the truth. We go through human moments. Interviewer: Yes. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: We experience times where we are tired of going through. We’re tired of the process. We want to know when we are coming out. “I believe you can do it, but when is it going to happen!” I was there. I was at that point. My father came into the room and he switched on the lights, pulled the blinds up, and he said, “God told me that you are scared. You are afraid to walk, you are

afraid to fail, and you are afraid to fall. When you learned to walk as a little girl, did I let you fall.” I said, “No daddy.” He said, “I don’t raise punks. I raise champions.” Interviewer: I know that’s right. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: “You are going to get up and you are going to walk,” and I began to cry and said, “Daddy, I can’t even feel the floor underneath me. My legs won’t even stand me up straight.” He said, “Well, I will come in this room every day, I will stand you up and I will hold you up until you can stand by yourself and until you can feel the floor underneath you.” Interviewer: So how long was that process? When you could feel the floor like that? How many days did it take? Asia DosReis-Whitehead: It took about two weeks because at that point, after he stood me up, the Lord kind of put me on a fast track towards walking. I thank God for it because there was a physical therapist that was supposed to come to my home, but she stopped coming because everything in my chart said that I wasn’t going to walk again. Interviewer: Wow. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: So they did not come. They just did not show up anymore. I mean she would say things to the point of, “My son has to use my car, so I can’t come today,” and I was very discouraged because I said, “Nobody thinks I’m ever going to walk again,” but I knew what God told me. And so when my dad finally helped me take my first steps, he began to say to me, “Look at you, you’re a champion, you’re a champion, you’re champion!” Interviewer: Amen. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: And so then I convinced my family to contact the physical therapist at Bellevue, where I had been, and I
I knew “ something
was wrong and that it was just not the flu.
”
convinced them to get the doctors to approve outpatient therapy. My family would drive me to therapy three times a week. When I showed them that I could stand up, then they said, “Oh my God, you’re gonna walk again!” Interviewer: Amen. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Through a lot of therapy, braces on my legs, walking with a walker and cane, God healed me, and I was finally able to walk on my own again. I am so grateful for my life that every day, when I wake up, I’m looking for someone to tell my testimony to. Interviewer: Yes. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: That’s the only reason I’m alive. I tell everyone that I’m only here because God signed my permission slip for me to stay. I’m here on a hall pass because God has allowed me to be here as a representation of His miracle. Interviewer: Yes, and I think that’s powerful because I used to be a Respiratory Therapist for about 10 years and I’ve seen patients with Guillain Barre Syndrome. I had to clean their trach, intubate them, put them on a ventilator, and things like that. But you didn’t have
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
lot of people hope because everybody gave up on you, but you just had that one word from the prophet and your spiritual mother and you were like, “Hey, the prophet said this; I believe the Word of God and despite what it looks like, I’m holding on.” Asia DosReisWhitehead: That’s it.
that assistance, did you? Asia DosReis-Whitehead: No, I didn’t have to be intubated. Interviewer: Praise God, that’s a blessing.
Interviewer: And you pressed through so it’s going to give people encouragement to keep pressing on. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: You have to keep pressing on.
Interviewer: You held the faith, and people Asia DosReis-Whitehead: When I tell you that were looking at you like you were crazy. You every time the doctors would come in, before told that therapist, “Get out of my room! You cannot tell anybody what God is not going to they would come in with that tube for me do.” to breathe in, I couldn’t breathe. But when I tell you God gave me breath for the time Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Absolutely. to breathe in it for them, to check the level, He gave me the breath to breathe. But when they would leave, my breath- I’m going to believe God,” and I’m so happy that you pressed through. ing would become labored again. It was the funniest thing. Scripture.” It was those days at Sunday School, those times when I was a little girl, and the shut-ins at church that I didn’t understand. Most of the time, I didn’t want to be there to be honest. Most of the time, I just filled out my Sunday School paperwork and did my lessons so that I could get the doughnuts afterward. Interviewer: (Laughs) Asia DosReis-Whitehead: We had to do our work first before our teacher would give us doughnuts and cookies. But I thank God that He brought all of those things back to my remembrance when I needed it. He brought it back to my remembrance because I began to remember the Scripture that said, “We are transformed by the renewing of our mind.” And I knew that once my mind made a conscious decision that it was going to trust God, no matter what, my body had to transform and conform to what my mind believed.
When God gave me the vision to start an empowerment network, initially, the thought in my head was that I was going to say, “I am a champion,” but the Lord began to correct me and He said, “You are not just a champion. “It’s not just you. I need for you not to make this an “I” thing. Don’t make it so personal where other people just look at you as a champion, but I need for them to understand. They need to hear you tell them that they too are champions.” Interviewer: Amen.
Asia DosReis-Whitehead: They need to hear from a champion to know that they can also become a champion. So instead of naming it, “I Am a Champion,” it was imperative, through the instructions of the Lord, to name it “UaRe a Champion” because it’s for everybody. There’s a champion in everyone. No one is exempt from having a champion inside of them. It just needs to be unlocked. It just needs Interviewer: Yes. to be activated. Champions are activated through the process. Champions are activated Asia DosReis-Whitehead: So when my mind through training and through blood, sweat, made the decision to believe, my body had and tears. You’re not a champion by how no choice but to align to what God was saying many wins you can acquire. Champions are because my mind believed it so strongly. really born by how many losses they take. Interviewer: Yes, and you talked about your Interviewer: Yeah, that’s good. father standing you up in this process. He kept speaking life into you: “You are a chamAsia DosReis-Whitehead: During training is pion.” Is that where your network comes from? where champions are made. You never see a Asia DosReis-Whitehead: That’s exactly where it comes from. Now, I spell it with the letter “U” A-R-E a Champion Empowerment Network. That’s exactly where I got it from because I have days where I feel a little weak. This is a physical condition that comes on you. Stress triggers it, and lack of rest can trigger it where you feel weak and fatigue. My fatigue is on another level; my tiredness is really, really tired. So when I have days like that, I still hear him in my head saying, “You’re a champion, push through! You are here, you are alive, you are a champion!”
I was “ completely

who were counted out, those who were left aside, those who were pushed aside, those who were shunned, those who were put on the back side of the desert, and those who have put their time in the wilderness. It’s time for them to arise and take their place as champions. He’s going to show us as showpieces on the earth. Interviewer: Yes, I receive that, Amen! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Amen. Interviewer: So your network, I just saw some events that you just had. Do you do these events annually?
champion make it through a marathon and they haven’t trained for it. They haven’t been through the process, and they haven’t cried through it. What God had explained to me was to make sure that I tell it everywhere I go. We’ve got to activate champions. This is the season. It’s not just the year of champions. This is the season of champions. Interviewer: Amen. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: This is the season where He’s bringing the underdogs to the forefront. Interviewer: That’s right. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: He’s bringing those
Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I have one event that I do annually. That’s our bigger event. It is “U Are Champions.” That’s an evening with champions. I’m also gearing up to have a Champions Ball this summer where we will be rewarding some scholarships. Interviewer: That’s awesome. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: We will also be honoring some champions. We’re going to take nominations for champions in the community, champions in business, champions who have overcome health struggles and situations, and champions in education, and we want to award some students. We have monthly events where we have empowerment sessions. We do workshops, and we do panel discussions to keep the wheels of the champions turning because once you activate a champion, you’ve got to keep their wheels turning. You can’t just leave them, you

gotta keep them in a place where they are constantly in champion thought process. Interviewer: Yes, I like that.
Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Because being a champion is all about the conditioning of the mind. Champions are made in their minds first. If you can see it, then you can be it. Whatever you say, you will see and I’m a firm believer of that. We have to constantly keep them in the mind frame and the mindset that they are always champions. Champions don’t turn off because you’re having a bad day. You’re still a champion through that bad day, through that bad season, or through that trial. That’s why we try to make sure that we are always presenting something. We’re also unrolling and unveiling some mentorship programs, and we’re going into the schools. Interviewer: Good, that’s needed. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: We also have mentorship programs that we are bringing to the different churches, our church in Brooklyn, New York, and Leaders of Tomorrow’s Brooklyn as well. Interviewer: Amen. I know you’re passionate
Interviewer: My question is what got you into empowering women? Some women need help. Some of us are broken. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Well the thing is, it was important. God laid the burden on my heart because with women, there’s always a cap put on us. We can go so far but don’t go any further. A lot of people feel like we are not to be compared to men. Interviewer: Yes. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: We’re not to be paid the same as men for doing the same job; we’re not supposed to make equal pay. We are just supposed to look good, make our pastor look good, make our husband look good, make the company look good, and then go back to our corner, go back to our desk, go back into the kitchen, go back to making babies, and that’s it. It’s a part of what we do as women. We’re natural nurturers, and we’re natural embellishers. We make anything look good. We do that naturally. Supernaturally, God has placed much more inside of us. Deborah, in the Bible, was a judge. She judged the children of Israel. Interviewer: That’s right. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: She was trusted to speak on God’s behalf, judge situations and people, critique the things that were happening, and to lead armies into battles. She was trusted with these things. With Esther, everyone thought she was just going to be a mere queen. Everyone wanted her to look good when the king called her, but she ended up changing a whole nation of people. She ended up changing an entire system of the way things ran for her people and in that kingdom because she was bold. She was bold enough to take a stand. She was bold enough to open
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
up her mouth, and God used her to change the course of an entire nation. It’s important for us as women, especially in ministry, to understand why we have the right to stand in the pulpit, and why we can stand behind a microphone and speak for God. It’s not just the men who can do it. There’s no gender in the Kingdom. God knows no gender in the Kingdom! His Spirit knows no gender. His Spirit can use whomever He chooses, and we are a part of who He has chosen to use. Interviewer: Yes. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: And we’ve got to understand we don’t have to make apologies because God chose us. We don’t have to become small so that someone else can look big. It’s important for me to be a forerunner. My mom is unapologetically a great and bold woman of God. We make sure that our voices are heard respectfully in love, but we stand in authority. It’s ok to take your rightful place as a woman and move in the authority that God has given you because the authority doesn’t change because of your gender.
Interviewer: That’s right and I love that because I just wrote my 20th book. It’s called, The Making of A Prophet: Women Walking In Prophetic Destiny. So everything you just said, about women and the challenges, I wrote that last night, like literally. So I’m like, “Wow, Lord!” Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Wow! Interviewer: Yes! So everything you just said, like, “God doesn’t know gender,” and “We have to come into our place,” and the challenges, the duties, everything! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Wow, that’s amazing! So God is saying the same thing to everyone. He’s the same God. If He’s telling everyone something different, then I just I have to be concerned about what channels you are tuned into. Interviewer: Right (laughs)! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: God is saying the same thing. He wants His daughters to take their rightful place. His daughters have a place in the Kingdom, His daughters have
35
36

a place in leadership, His daughters have a place in ruling, and they have a part in changing the systems of the world. There are going to be some doors that will open that only women can go into. Interviewer: That’s right Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Some doors involve us being attractive, us adorning ourselves, and making sure we’re presentable. All of it goes hand in hand. We have to make sure we are dressed for destiny. We have to make sure we’re presentable, that we’re respecting ourselves, that we present ourselves as respectable women of God who know how to dress, and we know how to present ourselves. But those are going to be the doors that only we can go into as women because they’re going to look at us just coming in for our looks and for what we can offer as women, but they are going to leave out with so much more. We’re going to leave out with closing the deals, but it’ll be our looks and our gender that gets us through the door. Interviewer: Yes.
When I “showed them
that I could stand up, then they said, “Oh my God, you’re gonna walk again!
”
Asia DosReis-Whitehead: He uses the foolish things to confound the wise. Interviewer: That’s right. That’s really good. That’s so good. Amen! So as you were talking, I was thinking about Esther. She was there all those months, and she was chosen as the replacement so I think that’s powerful. Everything you said about God using the foolish to confound the wise and, yes, that was much needed. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Absolutely. Interviewer: What are some pitfalls in ministry? I noticed on your women empowerment event that you hosted, one of the topics was pitfalls in ministry. Can you name one or two of them? Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Yes. A major pitfall in ministry is not knowing how to conduct yourself when you are inappropriately approached or handled as a woman in ministry. Interviewer: Wow. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: A lot of times, that topic and that subject is a little taboo. No one wants to speak on it because a lot of times we will lose speaking engagements and we will lose opportunities for taking a stand but if you are a so-called man of God, and you’re in my inbox on Facebook, that’s inappropriate. Interviewer: Yes, tell it. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: If you are inappropriately approaching me, or if you are making me feel uncomfortable...you know there are some people who asked me to come to their church just so that they could get a better look at me? Interviewer: Wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: And they were telling people that I was their wife, or that they
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
know we got this whole pretty preachers movement, and it’s wonderful. We should be beautiful, and we should be pretty, but not to the point where we are a distraction and we awaken a dormant lust spirit that’s inside of someone else. Do you understand what I’m saying? Interviewer: Yes. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: So, I don’t preach in pencil skirts, and I don’t preach in tight clothing. At the end of the day, if I’m there to minister, I still know how to present myself as a woman to where I’m feminine, but everything doesn’t have to be showing. Interviewer: That’s right.
were dating me, but I had no idea that I was in any of these relationships (laughs). Interviewer: Wow, the devil is a liar. That’s crazy, wow! Asia DosReis-Whitehead: The devil is a liar! There were other times where I’ve been in the presence of other people, I’ve preached at their church, or they’ve asked my mom to come, and they were just so inappropriate towards me to the point of where I just felt dirty after leaving their ministries. I never wanted to feel like a piece of meat, and I said, “Somebody has got to speak out against it.” So part of our mentorship we have an entire branch at the U Are Champions Empowering Network where we only mentor women in ministry on the etiquette of how you dress. I
Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I have to go there for the purpose of what God intended me to go there for and even though we want to be pretty and we want to be great, there’s an etiquette; there are do’s and don’ts. Sometimes, we have to know what to know before we go and so we teach the etiquette of how to dress, how to present ourselves, and who should be taking your calls for you. We even teach when you are a traveling evangelist, or a traveling woman preacher, you have to take someone with you. Don’t go by yourself. Don’t let a man walk you back to your hotel room. You are not to go out to dinner with the pastor of that church, if he’s a man, by yourself. You understand? Interviewer: Right. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: After the service is over, you should never have your good evil spoken of because this is the time where

they are getting reputations. They are making names for themselves and not another good name for God. Interviewer: Right. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: We have to make sure that we are always maintaining the integrity of who we are as women of God and as women period. Interviewer: Yes, and that’s good because my husband and I are getting ready to do a video because it seems like now we see so-called women of God showing all their girls. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Yeah! Interviewer: Their breasts are out and some stuff is inappropriate. I feel like they’ve crossed the line and it’s getting really, really bad. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: And they’re like, “Old times have changed, I can do this.” But at the end of the day, it’s inappropriate. They’re wearing their splits; we can see their entire leg. We see your whole leg, and we can see your breasts. They’re not wearing the proper undergarments. There are undergarments you’re going to wear if you’re wearing a fitted dress, and this is only something that another woman can teach because I saw a clip about a man critiquing a woman about her undergarments. It just completely disturbed my spirit because only a woman can teach another woman about this. No matter how much you know as a man, no matter how much you want to help, there are some things that should be reserved for only another woman to teach because you don’t know the plight of a woman if you’re not a woman. I wouldn’t dare go into another man’s house and teach him how to be a man. It’s inappropriate. Interviewer: Yes, and I thank you so much for hitting that because that grieved my spirit too; I’m like, “Wow, Lord.” So that sounds awesome, and I know a lot of our readers are

going to sign up because that is amazing. We need that as women. We need this teaching and this kind of training, definitely. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Amen, I thank God for it. We want to do a whole conference for women in ministry. I’ve got so much going on at one time so I have to pace myself. I’m finishing a book, conferences, events, and being a mommy as well. Interviewer: Ok, so tell us about your book. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: One is Declarations for Champions, and it’s a daily journal with daily affirmations for champions. It has a little nugget in there, that is Scriptural based, so champions can read it and just affirm themselves for the day. They are just a thought to let marinate in their spirits for the day. It’s something to keep them going, something to keep them motivated, and something to keep

them declaring because I really believe that whatever you say, you will see. Interviewer: Yes. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: It will be a 30-day journal. It will have a portion where they can add some notes. They can write down their thoughts for that day as well. The second book, I haven’t named it yet, but I’m definitely going to be chronicling my testimony with what we just spoke about. We go more indepth of the ordeal of what happened and it will also include what, I believe, the Lord was saying spiritually through what happened to me physically. Interviewer: Amen, what about your events? Do you have any upcoming events where our readers can connect? Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Well, I would like for everyone to stay tuned and go to https://uareachampion.com. Interviewer: Do you have any last closing thoughts before we end the interview?
Asia DosReis-Whitehead: I’m just so grateful. Thank you so much for this opportunity. I want to make sure that anyone who hears anything I have to say live in the VIP Section. Live in the VIP Section of life. We’re not ordinary; we’re not regular people. We are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are VIP’s because we have value, integrity, and purpose. We all have a great purpose to fulfill for God, for our lives, and in our businesses so never give up. Never fail to live in the VIP section. I like to put myself behind a velvet rope everywhere I go, in all humility, to understand that there are certain things that I just can’t do anymore because they just don’t fit my purpose. My purpose, value, and integrity, that upholds that purpose and value, requires me to live it. So, I just want to encourage anyone who will read it, find the VIP Section of your life. Find the velvet rope and put yourself behind it. Put yourself behind the glass that you belong in because you’re precious. You’re a diamond that is to be protected. Be revered as a precious stone and a precious piece of jewelry because you’re a champion. Interviewer: And I love that. There’s so much wisdom in that. It’s like a big nugget of wisdom. I love that. That was powerful. Amen. So, this is the end of the interview. I thank you so much for your time. Asia DosReis-Whitehead: Thank you.

“The Making of A Prophet: Women Walking In Prophetic Destiny” is a must read! When I started reading the first declaration, I could feel the fire of God, so I knew this book was anointed. Some of the declarations in this book are declarations that I either already speak or have spoken over myself, and there are other declarations in this book I felt were for me. I also appreciate Prophetess Kim’s testimonies in this book. The transparency she displays is encouraging because just like so many others (including myself ), Prophetess Kim did not see herself as being worthy enough to used by God, especially as a prophet. When God called Prophetess Kim to the office of a prophet, she felt that she was in a terrible state in her life, but being in that state was how she was able to trust and rely on God. When Prophetess Kim finally surrendered to God, He was able to use her more for His glory. “The Making of A Prophet: Women Walking In Prophetic Destiny” is truly a blessing for me because it gives me the encouragement and boldness that I need to move in the prophetic without focusing on the distractions or objections from others who disagree with women operating in their God-given assignment. People will try to put limits on you, but when it comes to God, there are no limitations; Prophetess Kim makes that clear in this book. She challenges and breaks the barriers some people try to use against women operating in church, ministry, five-fold offices, etc. “The Making of A Prophet: Women Walking In Prophetic Destiny” will inspire you to move forward in your assignment with the confidence in knowing that God has you, He is with you, and you have what it takes to carry out His purpose for your life, with or without the approval of others. Thank you, Prophetess Kim, for allowing God to use you to bring this much-needed book forward, blessings to you always! —LaShana Lloyd *** This book is very necessary! Women are misunderstood not only throughout the world as far as equality, but women are misunderstood when it comes to God’s purpose in their lives. God mandated everyone, Male or Female, with a purpose. I’m so glad that this book described Biblical women that God uses continually throughout the Word of God, but also powerful testimonies from the writer, Prophetess Kimberly Moses. Being a student of the School of Prophets, Prophetess Kimberly imparts to her students, and we began to flow in dreams, visions, Word of knowledge, Word of Wisdom and increase of discerning of spirits. Her Love for people and God shows and is all in the fruit God does through Prophetess Kimberly. This book will bless you! — Anstrice Mcmillian Epps *** I enjoy reading books by Prophetess Kimberly Moses. She’s an amazing teacher of the Prophetic Ministry and an asset to the Body of Christ. This book will enlighten your understanding of the Women Prophets in Biblical times and help you to understand what women Prophets of today are dealing with. It will bring clarity of your own identity as a Prophet of God. I used to feel left out and different from the rest, until I found people that were just like myself. Her books are filled with wisdom; the knowledge you obtain from her books will stick with you. I had the pleasure of taking her course “School of the Prophets,” which was life-changing for me. I encourage anyone looking to fulfill the prophetic call on your life to take her course. You will never be the same. — Felecia Jackson

APOSTLE KENYA J. MILLER Interviewed by Kimberly Moses
Interviewer: Thank you so much for accepting our invitation. Apostle Kenya J. Miller: Thank you so much for the opportunity. I appreciate that. Interviewer: You’re welcome. My spiritual father, Apostle Demontae Edmonds, recommended you. He prayed and said that the Lord showed him your face. He also told me to tell you hi. Apostle Kenya J. Miller: Hi! Interviewer: He also told me a little of your testimony. I can relate because for five years the enemy told me that he hated me, he was going to kill me, and that I was going to die. I looked on your Facebook page and saw that you are praying for the mind. I said, “Good.” I have written a book on the mind, so I told God, “This is going to be a good interview today.” I’m happy. Apostle Kenya J. Miller: That’s cool. Interviewer: The magazine is growing and this is our 4th year. I’m excited. Please tell us about your church and your service times. Apostle Kenya J. Miller: I’ve been pastoring for approximately five years. The name of the church is Innovative Empowerment. I know it is different. When the Lord gave me that name, I was like, “You have got to be kidding me. It sounds like a business. Innovative Empowerment, why not Grace Tabernacle or
Innocent Space Church?” God replied, “I will give you innovative power for the people of God. I have used you in innovative ways and that has kept you in my face.” I replied, “Yes Lord and agreed with the Lord on using the name.” The church is small. It consists of 150 members. God does what He does. We are a nondenominational ministry, not a church who judges. We allow God to have His way. You don’t have to be dressed a certain type of way. I believe that is why the people enjoy the ministry. Come as you are. Homeless people come into the service just as they are. Some wanting assistance and some do not. For those that deny the help, they are allowed to sleep outside the church because it’s safe here. Some want to change and some do not want to change. When the doors open to the church, they are welcome. I have a video where I randomly pick someone up on the street. He was helped and received assistance from our ministry to come off the street. The video shows before and after footage. God used him in our ministry. We don’t understand the way the Lord can use us in an innovative way because it’s out of the norm. We sometimes become discouraged, because it doesn’t look like it’s supposed to work. But by obeying the Lord, what looks like it won’t work, works for Him because He gave it to you. Interviewer: I think it’s awesome because your uniqueness stands out. You are not doing everything someone else is doing. You are just doing what God says to do. I love the uniqueness and how the Lord is using your ministry to get the homeless off the street. I

woman of order and I sent you to establish order. There were twelve disciples.” So, I’m like, “Okay, God I see.” We started our services initially on Thursday night. We did a Bible study back in 2012. We started on Thursdays. God told me to do Thursday. I told the Lord, “Ok, I’m going to do Thursdays at 7”00 pm. That’s no problem.” So we started a Bible study. I went to Africa this year, to Ghana. In Ghana they had a naming ceremony. I asked the Lord five years ago, “Why did you let me or have me do Bible Study on Thursday? Why not Wednesday like everybody else? It doesn’t make sense Lord.” I went to the naming ceremony. The chief priest, the tribe, and the elders chose your name before you got there. For them to choose your name, you had to know what day you were born on. When I looked up the day was born on, May 28, 1970, it was a Thursday.
would love to see the video. Is it on YouTube?
Interviewer: What! Wow! Gosh!
Apostle Kenya J. Miller: It is on Facebook.
Apostle Kenya J Miller: Blew my mind! You hear me, Kimberly! I said, “Wait a minute, God! You birthed me on a Thursday, and You birthed the ministry on a Thursday.” That was so prophetic! So, we started with Bible study on Thursday not knowing I was born on Thursday.
Interviewer: What are your service times? Apostle Kenya J Miller: Our service times are 12:00 pm EST. The reason the Lord has set this time is because He wants His people to enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. I replied, “Ok God. How do we do this?” God said, “I don’t want the people to rush to service in the morning and not have enough time to spend with their children or family. The Lord does not want people to worry about what is going on at home, or what the children have eaten. If they wanna go out with their spouses on Saturday nights and come home at one in the morning, they can do that. If they want to sit around the table in the morning and eat breakfast with their family, they can. I don’t want people to worry about, ‘Did I turn off the oven? Did I lock the door? I gotta get back home because the kids gotta eat.; Twelve o’clock is the right time. Twelve o’clock is also the spiritual number of governmental orders. You are a
Interviewer: Yes! Apostle Kenya J Miller: When God told me to start the ministry, He told me, “I want you to walk around the hotel seven times.” “Okay, God. No problem,” I told Him. People in the hotel were looking at me like I was stupid. The Holy Ghost said, “Don’t worry. I’m going to protect and guide you.” So, I called the hotel manager to let her know that that is where I wanted to be. I was blown away to find out that she had the same last name as me. You know when God speaks prophetically, He blows everyone’s mind. My old last name is Young. So, I went and talked to the manager. She told me that she liked me. I didn’t tell her that I was a pastor. She said, “Oh. You’re here

for the pastor?” I said, “Yeah.” Then she just kept saying she liked me and that she wondered if the pastor would like the room the way it was set up. I told the manager that she would like it fine just the way it is. The manager then said, “Oh. She’s a woman pastor?” I told her, “Yes she is.” She then went on saying, “I really like you. So, we normally charge $200 a day for this room or per service. But for you, we are going to charge $300 a month.” Interviewer: Wow! Awesome! Praise God! Apostle Kenya J Miller: I was like, “Excuse me?” When I told her, I was the pastor, she was like yes. I also knew it was set up by God because when we added children’s church, they gave us that room for free. So that is how we started. Interviewer: Hallelujah. That Thursday day is interesting because I do everything on Thursday. I have a mentorship, School of the Prophets, and I do everything on a Thursday.
“ Why did you
let me or have me do Bible Study on Thursday? Why not Wednesday like everybody else?
”
Apostle Kenya J Miller: Wow! Isn’t that something! Interviewer: Out of all the days, I always like Thursdays as well. I really thought that was funny when you were telling your story. Apostle Kenya J Miller: Wow! That is something else! That is incredible! There it is, that Thursday thing! At least you have the information. We also do the School of the Prophets, but we call it Ramah. We do this school in the church as well as the School of the Prophets. It’s a bit hard. However, the school is really good. Interviewer: We need that! How do people find out about the school? Is it only locally? Apostle Kenya J Miller: Right now, its locally. I’ve had the School of the Prophets for two years. What I’m doing is raising up the prophets that will be over the school. They will take over the school once they are trained and able to govern the atmosphere. Then they will be able to teach but it’s really good. It’s also held on Thursday. Our school doesn’t just deal with the office of a prophet, but the gift of prophecy. It deals with the gift and the Spirit of prophecy to help those people to stay in their lane and for them to know who they are in Christ. All mixed in and divided so you can determine each role based on the office and giftings the person has. We help them determine which one falls on them: the gift of prophecy or the spirit of prophecy. We deal with dreams, open visions, closed visions, trances, symbolism, and anything pertaining to the prophetic as it pertains to the Word of God. Interviewer: Amen. I love that. How were you saved? When did you say yes to Jesus? Apostle Kenya J Miller: There was no breaking point. I was a Buddhist Interviewer: You were a what?

Apostle Kenya J Miller: I was a Buddhist. Interviewer: Wow, we are so alike. I was too until the age of twelve. Apostle Kenya J Miller: Wow! I grew up in a Christian household. My mother was an evangelist. My father was the pastor. My sisters and brothers were all saved and speaking in tongues. I just would not or couldn’t get the Holy Ghost. When I turned ten years old, I
struggled with my sexuality because I knew I was different. I was homosexual and engaged to marry a woman in my youth. I was into Transcendental Meditation which would allow me to go into these deep trances with medication. I had a Yogi. I also was a Buddhist and would go to the Buddhist temple. I was the only black person there. Everyone else that was there was Asian in Queens, New York. I went from (TN) Transcendental Meditation to becoming a Buddhist to practicing Buddhism.

Interviewer: What did your family say? You were like the black sheep of the family?
Apostle Kenya J Miller: I would walk with crystal around my neck saying, “I’m draining the energy out of crystals.” I would also bury them in the backyard. My mom would say, “You’re not going to be worshiping no rocks in this house.” My mom was very wise. I didn’t’ get into voodoo until I moved out of her home, but when I was taking Transcendental Meditation and being Buddhism, I lived with her. My mom was wise because she didn’t beat me up or pressure me. She just let me coast along. She would say, “Just don’t be worshipping no rocks in my house. We worship only the true living God.” She was so wise in her winning me over that she never said much about my running away from the God she served. So, my anger with God caused me to run to other religions. In my home, everybody was saved and speaking in tongues. I remember when I was fifteen, I cried so hard for the Lord to fill me
with the Holy Ghost, but He did not. I remember when I had gotten up off the floor, I had on white stockings and I had pierced my knee on the nail on the floor. Blood was dripping down my leg because I was praying so hard. I think at that point, anger arose in me. I couldn’t understand what was in me that He did not want. “What was it, God, that you did not want about me? Why was it that everybody else was speaking in tongues? Everyone else, you know was worshipping You,” I cried out. I think it was at the turning point when I said, “I can’t do this,” because I felt rejected by God. Interviewer: Wow! Apostle Kenya J Miller: And so, I committed suicide at the age of seventeen. I died. I overdosed on my mother’s prescription drugs that the doctor had given her. Interviewer: Oh wow! Apostle Kenya J Miller: I can remember laying in my bed. I remember death! I remember going into my mother’s and father’s room then staggering into the bathroom. I remember my mom asking me, “Are you ok?” I said, “Mom, I’m going to die tonight!” Interviewer: Oh my God! Apostle Kenya J Miller: She didn’t say anything. She said, “God’s will be done.” She laid down and went to sleep. Interviewer: Wow! Apostle Kenya J Miller: Yep! When I went into the bathroom, I can remember just blacking out. I don’t remember anything except that I saw this light on the bathroom. It looked like it was coming down the hallway, and it was so bright. Instantly, I felt this breath go into my nostrils, and I took this huge breath. I woke up. I was in so much pain. Then my brother’s girlfriend and my cousin took me to the hospital. The doctors were like, “Why is she alive?
53
54
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
There’s no way she should be alive.” Interviewer: Wow! Apostle Kenya J Miller: I was upset that I was alive. I started crying because I didn’t want to be there. I wanted to stay dead. I remember crying, and I remember them saying, “We have to put her in an institution because she tried to commit suicide. She’s alive but she needs psychiatric help.” I remember my mom then coming to the hospital and saying, “You’re not putting my daughter in the psychiatric ward.” She began to pray in the hallway. Somehow, they let me go. Interviewer: Wow! Apostle Kenya J Miller: There was really no breaking point to me finding Christ. I met this guy. I was a homosexual, but I knew a lot of guys. One of the guys I used to hang out with, his name was Pops. That’s all I knew. His brother was James. He was Pops. I met him and had known him for two weeks. I’ll never forget. One day he told me to meet him because he was going to pick up money. I was a drug dealer and sold crack cocaine. I was also sprung out on it. I have a condition today called Rhinitis. I actually need surgery, but I refuse. We got into this car and we were smoking. Suddenly, we pulled up to this church. I said, “Why are we at this church?” He said, “I have to go pick up my money. I play for conferences and revivals.” I said, “Conferences and revivals where? What do you mean conferences and revivals?” It was in September. I’ll never forget. He went inside the church and then he came back out and said, “Guess what? The musician didn’t show up. They need me to play.” Interviewer: Wow! Apostle Kenya J Miller: I was like, “Ok!” He said, “Y’all gonna come in here or y’all going to stay out here in the cold?” I said, “Well I guess I’ll come inside. It’s no problem.” So I went inside. I didn’t know at the time that there was

a prophet minister. I didn’t know anything about the prophetic at all. I didn’t know that the guest preacher was a prophet. He began to tell me that the Lord is going to bless me. I’m high. I’m drunk. I couldn’t take his tone. It was driving me crazy. But out of respect for my mother, and being raised in a Christian home, I obeyed. He told me to turn around three times. I sat quietly. The Holy Spirit came upon me. I began to speak in tongues. At the age of 30! Interviewer: Wow! Apostle Kenya J Miller: There was no falling out. No Passing out. I never saw this guy again. I never saw him again. Interviewer: Wow!
Apostle Kenya J Miller: I went to go see my mom. I said mom, “I’m speaking in tongues.” She said, “Look at that. Thank you, Jesus!” Two weeks later, she died. Interviewer: Aww man!

Apostle Kenya J Miller: She never got to see me transform from being on crack and smoking. She never got to see that. She never got to see the transformation. I was engaged to a woman when she passed away. She never got to see me transformed, but it was her death that pushed me in the face of God. Interviewer: Wow! That is powerful! After your mother died, you needed God. He helped you through the healing process, the grief, and seeking His face more. Can you tell us about that? That process of getting into ministry. Apostle Kenya J Miller: The warfare started immediately. I can remember going to my mother’s memorial service in New York. After I found out that my mother had passed away, which I didn’t even know that she passed away at that time because I was still smoking even though I was saved. My family was trying to get in contact with me, but they couldn’t because I was passed out from being high. When they finally called me, they were saying, “Where were you? Where were you?” I said, “What’s going on? Hold up.” They were hollering and screaming, “Come by, come by! Mommy is dead.” “What happened? She was never sick. She had never been in the hospital. What happened?” I asked. “She went to the bathroom and died of a massive heart attack,” they answered. When I finally got there, about 11 o’clock, her body wasn’t hot. It was lukewarm. When I walked inside her room, I saw her. She was standing in between two people. I didn’t know what I was seeing, but I knew it wasn’t natural. I looked up, and I saw her in the middle. There were two people standing with long white robes. They had long beards. They had two staffs on each side. They were taller than my mom. I knew it was not normal. They were all white and were glowing. I heard a voice as if she wanted to come back. She could but she didn’t want to. I couldn’t even cry anymore. Everyone told me that I didn’t have to be so strong. I wasn’t trying to be.
I just couldn’t cry. I went back to my fiancé house at the time. She lived out of town. It was there I began to break down and cry. The Holy Spirit began to minister to me. I never experienced that before. He began to breakdown life and death. I was in the streets. I never heard my mom preach. When the Spirit of God touched me, He said, “I saved your mother’s life!” I grew up in an abusive home. My father hit my mother so hard, that her feet came off the ground. The Lord showed me the scene of my mother being abused. He said, “I never let her feel the pain.” I fell in love with Him. He said, “Your mother is safe. She had the Holy Ghost.” I fell in love with Jesus. I forgot about my mother’s death. I thanked Him for saving my mother’s life. Three weeks after she passed, I was grieving her death. I got in my car and I was driving down the street and I made a left on Malcolm X Boulevard. I had on jeans, a T-shirt, and a baseball cap. I had short hair. I go inside this church. It’s called Church of Triumph or something like that. I walk in the church. I’m sitting in the back. This man comes up to me. He’s got grey hair and says, “I want you to come back to church on Sunday.” I said, “Ok.” He says, “I want you to preach on Sunday.” I’m thinking, “Preach? I have only been saved for three weeks.” He says, “The message I want you to preach about is grace.” I started crying aloud. I don’t know how to preach. I heard a voice say,
I was “homosexual
and engaged to marry a woman in my youth.

“Use your Bible and dictionary. I’m going to show you how to do it.” Interviewer: Amen! Apostle Kenya J Miller: I got my Bible and a dictionary. I went to church that Sunday morning with a mini skirt on. It was the only skirt I had. That was the only attire that I had. I had on red lipstick, smelling like cigarettes, with short hair. They covered up my legs, got me in the pulpit, and I preached my first sermon on grace. Three weeks after I got filled with the Holy Ghost! I haven’t stopped preaching since. Interviewer: Amen! That’s powerful! I never heard of that happening. That’s awesome. Apostle Kenya J Miller: Me neither. I didn’t know at the time, but God began to mature me. He unveiled to me every step that He was doing with me in detail. He exposed who people were in their offices. He explained why He placed me in their lives at that particular moment. It was to help me become mature and to help develop my relationship with Him. I did not know what a prophet was. I never heard that word before because I was in the streets. I only knew about a pastor. I didn’t even know I was a lesbian. I had never heard the word lesbian. With my self-identity and struggling with the worth of who I was, I then had multiple personalities. I would pretend to be people from other Islands or different continents. I would master different dialects because I wanted to be accepted. I knew that people wouldn’t accept me because I knew that I liked girls. I would pretend I was from Jamaica and England. I would make up all these lies because I faced a heavy level of inner rejection. Interviewer: How did you overcome mental attacks? Apostle Kenya J Miller: I had a total of three mental breakdowns and one of them I ended up in a mental institution. The last time that I

was in the mental institution, I heard the Lord say, “I had to lose my mind so I can gain His mind.” I said, “Excuse me?” I process things a little differently and people think I’m weird. I’m really not. I look at things through His eyes and a carnal mind can’t comprehend things of the Spirit. I was on Prozac preaching, praying, and prophesying. I was on Prozac because I was chronically depressed. I knew that God wanted me to come off of Prozac because I would forget to take my medication. Also, when I would go to take my medication, I would drop it and it would fall on the floor. In my mind, the drugs were regulating my emotions. God would speak to me such as, “You wasn’t on Prozac last year so why are you on Prozac this year. Look at your faith! Kenya, I used you to speak life into babies. Remember the baby who had a 104 fever that was pronounced dead? I used you to raise that baby up. I used you to pull people out of wheelchairs. I used you to pray over people who came into the church with walkers and canes to walk out. Look at what I’ve done
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE AUGUST 2019
through you. I used you to minister to people in homosexual lifestyles that came out. Look at the people who got delivered that was on alcohol. Look at the people who have met you and their life has changed.” The Lord would talk to me. He spoke to me such things for a whole year and I reasoned with Him. One day, I kept dropping those pills. Every time I would pick it up, I would drop it. It was as if something was knocking it out of my hand. I finally said, “Okay God. I won’t take Prozac anymore. I trust You. I will trust You with my mind.” Then I let go of my medication. Interviewer: How was the transition to the apostolic for you? Apostle Kenya J Miller: The transition to the apostolic wasn’t hard for me. It was easier than embracing the prophetic because an apostle is who I already am. God dealt with me when I was a little girl around five years old. He said, “Look at your socks. They are different from everyone else. What color are they?” I answered Him, “They are crimson red.”
He said, “That’s right. You will always walk in the apostolic. You are called to the apostolic.” I said, “Wow, God!” Interviewer: Wow. That’s powerful! Apostle Kenya J Miller: Transitioning to the apostolic wasn’t hard because I was always called. I just didn’t know what it was or that I was already walking in it. So, when I was affirmed an apostle, it was easy for me to make the transition of who I already was. I have faced so much warfare that my apostle or the person that covers me said, “How did you do it? How in the world did you face this type of warfare that you have been in?” I will never forget that question. I said, “Excuse me?” He said, “I have never faced this type of warfare since you came underneath my covering. The Lord had me in my prayer closet for hours for you. How did you do this by yourself?” I said, “God.” I’ve been through so much mental persecution. I struggled, fought, and have been rejected so much. It’s not hard to me. I expect it. My mind has been conditioned for

persecution and rejection. My spirit has been conditioned for warfare, trials, and tribulation. I’ve gone through this just to be called who God has called me to be. I have the gift called ignore! Interviewer: I know that’s right. Apostle Kenya J Miller: The gift of ignore is, “I don’t have to see or listen to you.” Your opinions are not important to me. You can get in my face or walk by me. You can accuse me all you want. If I suffer with Him, I will reign with Him. All the prosecution I received for being a firm female apostle and all of my prosecution received by walking. The transition into the apostolic had no effect because of the way my mind is set up. When things happen, it’s not hard for me. When things happen, I’m expecting them to happen. Interviewer: Yeah Apostle Kenya J Miller: My mind is already made up and has been programmed to the prosecution. My body is expecting rejection. It’s the way my mind is set up. So, when others freak out or go through, I don’t do things like that because my mind has been conditioned for the prosecution. Interviewer: Let me ask you this? Why do you think prophetic people face so much warfare? Apostle Kenya J Miller: Prophetic people face so much warfare… Now hear me when I say this. If you read God’s word, you won’t see any prophets in the Bible facing as much as we do today. Jesus is the chief prophet, the lead prophet of the dispensation of Grace. You have the old prophets and you have the new prophets that are totally different prophets because they operate in a whole different realm. You will see that none of the old prophets ever war as much as we do today. Our focus today is more on warfare and not the assignment. Interviewer: Ummm.
a total “ I had of three mental breakdowns and one of them I ended up in a mental institution.
”
Apostle Kenya J Miller: Whatever you focus on, that is what becomes or get brought to the light. Understanding who you are will take away from the warfare and take the focus off the warfare and keep the focus on the assignment. Interviewer: That’s good. Apostle Kenya J Miller: Being a prophet is the reason why the warring is great because you must go through a spiritual realm or different spiritual realms in order to mature in the office. Now in the spiritual realm, you may encounter may be a little consuming or uncomfortable and you get caught up in that realm because you can’t believe this is happening to you. Then instead of allowing that process to pass, we maintain it in our mind. Because we maintain a level of consistent warfare from our previous experiences of maturing in the prophetic, we don’t understand we have already gone through that process of warfare. Our mind is stuck on constant warfare but I

I’m just trying to take time to get married because I was content with where process it all. My God. That is so true though. I work with a lot of prophets and we do focus I was. Well it Interviewer: When you are just going through was an apartment because I had moved to warfare, its crazy distractions and you kind of Florida. I didn’t know anyone in Florida. I get distracted of what you are supposed to be moved because God told me to move there. I moved into my apartment and the person doing. who lived there before last name was Miller. Apostle Kenya J Miller: Yeah. I was like okay but whatever because I didn’t know my husband then. My friend Patrick, Interviewer: Thank you for saying that. Phoenix, AZ and you two were together. I told him, “Okay, you can have him to contact me because I’m not contacting him.” When he did contact me, I saw his last name was Miller. When we spoke, I knew right away he was my husband. The thought that I was entertaining him let me know he was my husband. Interviewer: (Laughs) Apostle Kenya J Miller: I was just shocked when he was talking to me. I’ve had tons of guys that wanted to marry me, but this was different. Something about him. He was dark skin and when I found out his name was Miller, I was like, “Okay. Wait a minute.” It didn’t dawn on me that the name of my ministry was KYM. Interviewer: Wow. Apostle Kenya J Miller: It wasn’t Kenya Young Ministries it was actually Kenya Young Miller. Interviewer: Wow. Apostle Kenya J Miller: Yeah, I didn’t have to do much. I was so focused on the Lord. I knew, prayed and fasted. When I visited my husband, there was an unction in my spirit and there were always signs to let me know that this was my husband. My struggle was that I had never been in a heterosexual relationship. That was my struggle. I didn’t know how a man thought because he was the first man I ever had walked up to. Processing his thoughts alone angered me. Here I am fortyfive years old and I must figure out the mind of a man. Crazy and very frustrating to me. God had already broken down to me the relationship between a man and a woman. However, the concept of how a man thinks infuriated me. It did because I had a single mindset and I would often go to God and say I didn’t understand how men thought. I was used to dating women and they were very attentive and caring. They tried to work with you, and I had some good relationships with women but now I’m dealing with the total op-

posite of who I am and the way I think. It was very frustrating for me and I didn’t like it at all. Just to be honest with you, I did not like it at all. Yeah. Interviewer: I appreciate your transparency. I know this is going to bless a lot of people. I appreciate you sharing and that is amazing. I looked on your website and I saw you, your husband, and your ministry. I also saw you were a life coach. Apostle Kenya J Miller: I’m a certified Christian Life Coach. I went and completed my training with that. The thing about me is that I went through so much in my mind and trying to find my identity in my life. God told me failure is not failure. It’s just you conceding on what not to do. God would say you didn’t fail. You conceded on what to do and what not to do. I became a life coach when I started pastoring. I love to help people accomplish their goals. I didn’t just want to deal with the spiritual part of man, but I wanted to deal with the natural part as well, to help them accomplish their goals and what is their reality. This helps them to know who they are in the natural and who God says they are. My reasoning for that is to take both and merge them together to help

people to define their call and purpose. I do marriage education as well, but when I counseled people, I would have to enter into their psyche of how they thought or think about things in order to truly understand the natural part of them. I had to understand the mind and spirit. God told me I did not see the spirit; I saw the flesh first. He said in order to reach the people, I must reach the flesh. How can I feed them knowing their flesh is hungry? Their mind is on eating instead of the word of God. I need you to feed the flesh in order to feed the spirit. Interviewer: Wow. Apostle Kenya J Miller: See how my mind works? It doesn’t work like everyone else’s. That’s why I like to stay in my little box. When my mind works, it’s different. God says, “You have to penetrate the spirit of man because they have lived in this natural body for so long. They have become accustomed to the way of living in the flesh. They are transitioning in the spirit realm, which means they now have to deal with the flesh in order to get to
know?
Interviewer: I think that is wise when I think about it. For outreach ministry when it comes to people, you must deal with flesh matter like clothing, food and things like that. Then you can be a more effective witness unto them. Absolutely. Is there anything else you want our readers to
Apostle Kenya J Miller: The only thing I want them to know is that consistency in any area will develop strength. Again, consistency in any area will develop strength. Anything you are consistent in will birth your strength. If you are a consistent liar, then you will be a strong liar. If you are consistent at not reading your Bible, then you will be consistent in not reading your Bible. Consistency in any area develops strength. If you are a consistent gossiper, then you will be a strong gossiper. But if you are consistent in prayer, then you will be a strong prayer warrior. If you are consistent in praise, then you will be a strong praiser. If you are consistent in worship, then you will be a strong worshipper. If you are consistent in your faith, then you will have strong faith. Consistency in any area develops strength. Interviewer: Amen. That is powerful. This is the end of the interview.
