Cells – Basic Units of Life part 2

Cell Membrane

• Protection: the cell membrane’s primary function is to maintain a stable, internal environment. o Lipids called phospholipids provide the membrane’s shape. Phospholipids are polar on one end and nonpolar on the other. They assemble in two layers (bilayer). The polar heads face water, whereas the inside of the layer is made of the nonpolar tails. This prevents most particles, which are polar, from passing through to the inside of the cell. • Communication: to communicate with the external environment. o Proteins embedded in the phospholipids are synthesized by the cell for this function. • Selective Exchange: to trade materials with the external environment, such as nutrients or waste. o Embedded proteins provide this function as well, by recognizing what to let in and what to keep out.

ESOPHAGEAL CANCER TREATED WITH SURGERY AND RADIATION By Kimberly Hargraves Adenocarcinoma is a type of cancer that forms in mucus secreting glands throughout the body.1 It can occur in many different places in the body and is the most prevalent type of cancer of the following: lung, prostate, pancreatic, esophageal, colorectal.1 Adenocarcima is the most common type of esophageal cancer.1 This occurs when cancer forms in the glandular cells of the esophagus.1 The two most common types of esophageal cancers are adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Adenocarcinoma is usually found in the lower part of the esophagus near the stomach2 and related to having acid reflux, Barrett esophagus, or obesity.2 Squamous cell carcinoma is usually found in the upper part of the esophagus and may be related to long term tobacco or alcohol use.2

Stage IIB (T1, N1, M0) cancer is described as the following: The T category describes the original tumor3 and it is measured in centimeters or millimeters.3T1 describes the tumor size and/or level of invasion into nearby structures3 and the higher the T number, the larger the tumor and the more it has grown into nearby tissues.3T1 means that the primary tumor is less than 2 cm across3 and invaded the lamina propria, muscularis mucosae, or submucosa.2 The N category describes whether or not the cancer has spread into nearby lymph nodes.3N1 describe the size, location, and/or the number of lymph nodes involved.3 The higher the N number, the more the lymph nodes are involved.3 N1 means the primary tumor has reach the superficial lymph nodes in the area or metastases in 1–2 regional lymph nodes.2 The M category tells whether

there are distant metastases.3 M0 means that no distant metastases were found.3 Once the T,N,M have been learned they are combined or categorized into stages.3 As the stage number goes up the cancers are more advanced.3 Trans-hiatal espohagectomy is one of the most common procedures for treatment of esophageal cancer.3 In this procedure, the esophagus is removed by placing incisions into the neck and abdominal without cracking open the chest and has less complaints than trans-thoracic esophagectomy.4 The stomach or part of the large intestine is used for reconstruction of the esophagus.3 This surgery can delay the recovery of oral intake, and often patients require placement of a jejunal feeding tube during surgery.3 Many treatments for cancer can cause nausea, vomiting, early satiety, dysqeusia, diarrhea, mucositis, xerostomia, constipation, weight

loss and anemia.3 These symptoms put cancer victims at nutritional risk because if not treated then malnutrition may result.3 Anabolic agents, antiemetics, prokinetics, appetite stimulants are some pharmacologic agents that may be used in combination with nutrition therapy.3 Malnutrition is a cause of morbidity and mortality in cancer patients.3 Malnutrition reduces responsiveness to chemotherapy and radiation therapy, worsens quality of life, and diminishes the likelihood of survival.3 Treatments of cancers can cause nausea and vomiting which can lead to malnutrition if not treated.3 Upper and mid abdominal radiation therapy can result in nausea and vomiting starting one to hours after treatment and persisting for several hours.3 Surgical procedures may potentially alter an individual’s physical appearance and alter organ function which can contribute to depression and result in reduced food intake and weight loss.3 Surgical treatments that involves resection of the stomach or small intestine or removal of the esophagus or tongue will have the greatest impact on nutritional status.3 Chemotherapy affects rapidly dividing cells and often targets rapidly dividing gastrointestinal cells that lead to nausea and other nutritional problems.3 Common adverse effects of radiation therapy includes fatigue, mucositits, dysgeusia, xerostomia, secondary to saliva gland destruction, dysphagia, odynophagia, and severe esophagitis.3 Radiation therapy places the individual at high risk of dehydration and esophageal tissue might become so irritated that a surgical placed feeding tube is necessary.3 Radiation enteritis can result after a decade of receiving radiation to the abdominal and pelvic area.3 This

disease can cause malabsorption because of the associated diarrhea and results in total parenteral nutrition to prevent weight loss and electrolyte abnormalities.3 Metabolic changes can occur from chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery treatment of cancer victims. Several events can happen during protein metabolism: increased whole body protein turnover, increased proteolysis, increased tumor demand for amino acids, increased protein losses, and decreased protein synthesis.3 Subsequently, several events can happen during carbohydrate metabolism: increased Cori cycle activity, glucose intolerance, abnormal insulin response, and increased glucose flux.3 Lastly, several events can happen during fat metabolism: increased lipolysis, increased fatty acid turnover, depletion of total body fat, hypertriglyceridemia, and decreased lipoprotein lipase activity.3 Weight loss has been identified as an indicator of poor prognosis in cancer patients.5 It has been shown that at the time of diagnosis, 80% of patients with upper gastrointestinal cancer and 60% of patients with lung cancer have already experienced a significant weight loss, generally defined as at least a 10% loss of body weight in 6 month time.5 Poor nutrition practices lead to under nutrition, can contribute to the incidence and severity of treatment side effects and increase the risk of infection, thereby reducing chances for survival.5 • Matthew 5:6, Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. For God’s children that are suffering with a terminal illness might be suffering in their physi-

cal bodies but will not suffer any more in their spiritual bodies once they pass on to be with the Lord. I would continue to show patients with chronic diseases the love of God and provide the best possible care with Jesus’ servant like attitude in mind. Some of these patients might be undergoing an emotional turmoil inside but if they see God’s light shining through me, then hopefully they can be filled with comfort and peace during their difficult battle with their disease. THE OFFICE AND THE GIFT: WHAT’S THE BIG DIFFERENCE? By Vera L. Smith The biggest mistake we make as a culture is not knowing the difference between these two very distinct gifts. First we will examine the gift of Prophecy, the Bible tells us in (1 Cor 14:1) This in fact shows that among all gifts Prophesy should be desired above all. Why? You ask, because it is used to edify, exhort, and comfort. (1 Cor 14:3) Lets discuss for a moment what the GIFT of Prophecy is. The gift is something the Holy Spirit exercises at His will, and it will come through a man or a woman. It has absolutely nothing to do with their calling, their training, their preparation or their qualification. It can be informational, directive or a word of encouragement, but the office of the prophet is different altogether.

The office of a Prophet differs as in it is Permanent. It is a calling, Prophets prophesy with more authority than other believers who have not been called to the office of the prophet. Prophecies can carry revelation, direction, correction, confirmation, impartation, and activation. Prophets Prophesy out of revelation gifts ie. WofW, WofK and the Discerning of Spirits They minister to a wider scope of needs than believers who speak out of the simple gift of prophecy. Prophets hold the highest level in the Prophetic realm. The office of the prophet is about revealing Christ’s heart to establish the church with His eternal nature and character than it is to empathize or make promises that improvement of conditions are coming. When the heart of Christ

is being revealed, there is an awe which focuses the hearer’s attention on neither a promise for the future nor the one who is bringing the message, but rather on Christ and every degree of insufficiency in comparison with Him (Isa.6:5). The office of prophet is about catapulting God’s people into the process of being prepared for ruling and reigning with Him than it is defining the many blessings that will come our way as we walk with Him (Jer.1:9-10). True Prophets will ALWAYS turn you back to God. Next Month we will discuss what happens when the Gift of Prophecy is mistaken for the Office.

PRAYER CORNER By Kimberly Hargraves

PRAYER FOR PLEASING GOD: Dear Heavenly Father, I am sorry for the times I grieved your Holy Spirit. I repent Lord. I humble myself and turn from my wicked ways. Lord, let me love what you love and hate what you hate. Ignite the fiery zeal for you back in my life. Let me not be a friend of this world because that makes me your enemy. Lord, guide my path and my every steps. Lord, give me a burden to want to please you more than anything in this world. Create in me a pure heart. I surrender my wants and my agenda for yours Lord. I seal this prayer in the blood of Jesus. In your mighty name Amen. PRAYER FOR OBEDIENCE: Lord, I ask you for forgiveness for the times I strayed from you and your word. I am sorry for the times I compromised my walk with you to impress people. Lord, I ask you for your mercy upon me as I cry out to you. I decree that I will obey you rather than men. I decree that I will produce the fruit of faithfulness in my life.

Lord, send your angels to guide and protect me. I seal this prayer in the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Amen. PRAYER FOR JOY: I decree that the joy of The Lord is my strength. The Lord is the strength of my life. God is my source of joy because in His presence is the fullness of joy. I will let the peace of God rule in my heart so I refuse to worry about anything. I seal these spoken words over me and everyone connected to me in the blood of Jesus amen. WARFARE PRAYER: Satan, I command you and your demons to back off in Jesus name. You will not cause chaos in my mind, my home, or any area of my life anymore. God has given me authority over you in the name of Jesus. You were defeated at the cross of Calvary. Right now I loose warrior angels to

guard and keep me from all demonic attacks. God says in his word that he will establish me and guard and protect me from the evil one. I pray a hedge of protection around me and all my possessions, if the enemy crosses my threshold, he will be destroyed by the fire of the Holy Ghost. In Jesus name Amen. VICTORY PRAYER: Father, in the name of Jesus I decree victory in every area of my life. I decree victory in my finances. I decree victory in my health. I decree victory in my family. now in Jesus name. I cancel every evil assignment against my life, my home, my church, my ministry in Jesus name. Lord, boomerang the tricks and schemes back to the enemy in Jesus name. I rebuke the spirit of defeat and despair. I will obtain every blessing The Lord has for me in Jesus name. I take authority, I command things to manifest in the natural now in Jesus name. Thank you Father, it’s already done. In Jesus name Amen. PRAYER FOR COMFORT: Father, I thank you for being here with me in the darkest moments. Thank you for be-

ing a friend when everyone else abandoned or rejected me. Thank you for the comforter! Thank you for peace. Thank you for filling voids in my life. Thank you for bringing something good out of my pain. Thank you for the blessings that are on the way. Thank you for the turnaround. Thank you for hearing my cry and for being here with me. I decree that it’s already done in Jesus name Amen. PRAYER AGAINST DEFILEMENT: Lord, I repent of my wicked my ways. I humble myself and ask that you purify me. Cleanse me in the blood of

Jesus. Lord, you look at the heart and not the outer appearance so get anything out of my heart that’s not like you. You said in your word, that the heart is naturally deceitful. You said in Matthew 15:19-20 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. And these defile a person. Lord I decree psalm 51:10 over myself that you create in me a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Bless me to check my heart daily so I can be pleasing in your sight in Jesus mighty name amen.

Triumph Through Trials By Shirley Cooper We all face trials in our lives, some seem greater than others. How then do we seek God if we cannot see God? The answer lies in John 20:29. “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’” Imagine, we can feel the wind, but we cannot see it. We can feel and hear someone’s whispers, without seeing their face. In the same way, God can and will approach us. If we can just focus on the message whispered, we will see God. My oldest daughter, had experienced a tremendous amount of struggles throughout her life, from the time she was just a child through her adult life today. From being molested by a family mem-

ber, being attacked by a homeless man, peer pressure, peer rejection, miscarriage, and so much more. It seems as if traveling in her shoes was just too difficult to trust in a God who promises to protect us. But, as I watched my daughter go through the things she did, I held close to the truth that God will deliver. Please understand that this trust for me didn’t come overnight. It was a process; a growth that could only come when I experienced a great God, through obedience in things I rebelled against. For my daughter, well, she would have to experience God in her own way. I had to understand, at one point, that getting to know God would be an individual thing. While

He needed to work in my daughter, He would have to work in me first. How could I feed my daughters soul, when mine just couldn’t comprehend the hurt she continued to endure? When I began to close my eyes and just listen, that’s when I saw movement; that’s when I experienced the living God and His unfailing love. His promises began to overfill my cup, and blessings were rushed down in more ways than one. I began to pray to God wholeheartedly, rather than as a ritual. God showed me that my needs weren’t the only thing He would handle, but my desires, my family, and the brokenness for my daughters pain, He would handle as well. He would take it all and I would never have to worry again.

REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE DECEMBER 2015 Don’t get me wrong, my faith in God sustains me well, but sometimes we step into the flesh and our worries consume us. Knowing this doesn’t make us invaluable to God or His work in us, it just brings us back to the classroom again, as God continuously teaches us. He is forever at work. Believing God sits on His throne pointing and directing is like saying He is doing absolutely nothing, using His Deity with no purpose, but He works from His throne in our favor, making us better and wiser, loving us, comforting us, and strengthening us at all times. However, in the same way that we rebel against our parents, we rebel against God. We choose not to listen, because if we cannot see God physically, we feel there is no purpose to be obedient. We need to see results quick. We are a people who live in the “right now!” We are far too impatient to wait for anything. We search for quick fixes, Google everything, feed on fast food, and try to steer away from rush hour traffic, because Lord knows, we would die right in the middle of it! We are definitely an impatient people. God says that in the waiting process we will be renewed. “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31) We truly need to understand that God’s delays are not His denials. “For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” (Habakkuk 2:3) As we try to rush through the storm, we find that God isn’t ready to deliver us yet. We are still being molded to understand the peace that surpasses all understanding, a God who is always watching over us, even in the careless choices we make, or the painful lessons we

would have to endure, in order to bring us to the person He’s created us to be. My daughter has just received news that her sugar level was 400, and in hearing this, some may find it just too much to handle, but I praised! One might ask, “why would anyone praise God for a diagnosis such as this?” Maybe even looking at me and saying that I am heartless. However, for years my daughter tried to lose weight and have a baby. She desired to be able to walk into the mall and find clothes like all the girls around her. So when I received the news, my eyes saw what she couldn’t, and for once in my life I was able to feed her soul a message of deliverance. I know that God’s work in her cannot be maintained in full until she received true Godly advice; until she experienced a great and all powerful, all knowing, all loving, God! Today, the tears that I have stored up in my heart, have a different outlook and they don’t fall because of the pain and suffering my daughter endures, but they fall for the joy she will one day see. There’s a truth in the trials we face. A balance that we must capture through every tear that falls. We are here for a purpose. We are being changed and renewed every day, but we cannot experience the power of Gods change in us until we can trust with a blind faith and believe that there is triumph in every trial. “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the victor’s crown, the life God has promised to those who love him.” (James 1:12) I believe that when I decided to entrust God with everything in my life, big and small, I experienced Him. His whispers are now so vivid that it’s as if I am physically on His lap. His voice is so powerful that I tremble in excitement. This time around, when I close my eyes, I can not only feel His touch, I can see His fingerprints in the trials of

my life. He is there. Always there! Maybe it took awhile before seeing His design in this divine painting of my life, but it came. I am now standing in a place I cannot only feel my Father, but I can see Him. Waiting is hard, yes, but its needed in order to truly know that if God wills, He fulfills. In the midst of every trial, THERE IS TRIUMPH!

The lure of knowledge and power are two of Satan’s most effective traps. In a sense, everything is a matter of knowledge or, more accurately, truth, even the truth about power. Yet the power issue is so prominent in the experience of people around the world that we treat it as a separate issue. Satan is a powerful angel. For what ever reason, God did not withdraw the power delegated to him as an angel when he rebelled against God and attempted to establish

his own kingdom. We can be sure that his power is limited. God is the source of all power, and HE delegates that power as HE sees fit. As Christians disciples we have been given a privilege, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1: 8), “As followers of Christ, by the grace of God, we have been extended hospitality, that is, we have

been welcomed into the family of God. God has extended us an invitation to become part of HIS MINISTRY. In the same fashion we, as imitators of God, are called to extend this hospitality to everyone we encounter in our path”. However, Satan tries to create the impression that he is as powerful as, or even more powerful than God, and Hollywood often conveys the same lie. People who have been involved in Satan-worship bear witness to this deception among the followers of Satan. Sa-

TOWER OF POWER By Reynaldo Rodriguez tan is like an animal on a tether. The animal can go as far as the tether allows, but no farther. He can act freely within the area defined by his rope, but the rope defines his area of activity. Satan is on God’s tether, and while he can do many things within the limited area defined by God, he certainly cannot go beyond the limits God has established. If he could, he would have reduced God’s creation to chaos long ago. He is not happy that “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalms 19: 1), and that God’s children can live to the glory of GOD. Because his power is limited, however, does not mean that Satan has no power at all. He is able to do supernatural things. God gave him permission to incite an enemy against Job, send storms to destroy his property, and cause Job to suffer physically, but he was not allowed to take Job’s life. (see Job 1 - 2). He could give the Gadarene demonic strength to break every chain with which people tried to re-

strain him, but he could not resist JESUS authority, “They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes. When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an impure spirit came from the tombs to meet him. This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!” Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area. A large herd of pigs was feeding

on the nearby hillside. The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.” (Mark 5: 1 - 13) He could hinder Paul from carrying out some ministry he had planned but he could not prevent the church from being planted. “For we wanted to come to you—certainly I, Paul, did, again and again—but Satan blocked our way.” (1 Thessalonians 2:18) It is also true, however, that if God’s people trust and obey God, they can live free from the control that Satan would try to gain over them. The battle is for the mind, and is more than obvious Satan is a moron and foolish since he still obscure he already lost the war.

SINCRETISM IN LEADERSHIP

REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE JANUARY 2016

By Reynaldo Rodriguez

In an East African country, an evangelical mission agency was ready to turn over the leadership of the church they had planted to African leaders. Two men were seen as candidates for the position. One of them went to a witch doctor to secure a charm to enhance his chances of being chosen leader of the church. What was this man saying about his real belief system? He was saying, “I’m not sure about the power of GOD, but I really believe in the power of the witch doctor, so I am going to cover all the bases.” This is syncretims at its worst--at the leadership level. It was obvious that the candidate for bishop of his church had not adopted a world view in which GOD is sovereign as

part of his conversion to Christianity. While we decry that kind of syncretism in Africa, we have the same problem in the West. It is just that for us it often comes from acting on the secularized world view of the Scriptures. We say we believe the Bible, but we also read the horoscope and call the psychic hotline. But GOD is the one being in the realm of deity—not GOD and angels, and certainly not GOD and Satan. Some Christians have such fear of Satan that they ascribe godlike qualities to him. Some have even confessed that they see him as the counterfeit of GOD. GOD being the eternal good and Satan the eternal evil. Satan isn’t the eternal anything. He is a fallen angel and should never have the attributes of deity ascribed

to him. Satan is a charlatan and a fool. Because only a charlatan and a fool dare to follow the rebellious path that follow into death and eternal destruction becoming so silly challenging his Divine Creator which is GOD. “But even so, the Spirit very clearly tells us that in the last times some will abandon the true faith because of their devotion to spirits sent to deceive and sabotage, and mistakenly they will end up following the doctrine of demons.” (1 Timothy 4: 1) Regarding Paul inspire words in his letter to Timothy, how does inspiration mirror the same wisdom in the words of Moses, to the people of Israel? “You are to worship no oth-

REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE DECEMBER 2015

er gods before me—My presence is enough. You are not to make idols of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or down in the sea. You are not to bow down in worship of any images of other gods, for I am the Eternal your God. I am jealous for worship, bringing punishment on you and your children to come, even down to your great-grandchildren, to whoever hates Me. Instead, those who obey My commands and truly love Me will receive My loyal love end lessly, even for a thousand generations.” (Deuteronomy 5: 7 – 10) It is clear that our world view will have a great deal to do with how we understand spiritual warfare. It is also clear that the biblical world view is essential if we are to live to the

glory of GOD and to be more than conquerors in Christ. Paul shows the contrast between the two opposing world views and warns us against syncretism, “Make sure no predator makes you his prey through some misleading philosophy and empty deception based on traditions fabricated by mere mortals. These are sourced in the elementary principles originating in this world and not in the Anointed One (so don’t let their talks capture you). 9 You see, all that is God, all His fullness, resides in His body.10 You, too, are being completed in Him, the One who has dominion over all rule, all authority.” (Colossians 2: 8 – 10) This is also what Paul had in mind when he commands by the HOLY SPIRIT, “Do not allow

this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete.” (Romans 12: 2) A biblical world view is essential for a renewed mind. It is also a necessary ingredient in understanding spiritual warfare and in fighting the battles victoriously. The battle is for the mind on our journey to plant in our hearts the gospel flag of JESUS. If we can win this battle, we can win the spiritual war.

THE WORLD VIEW By Reynaldo Rodriguez

Therefore, the world view part of our belief system is critically important, and too often the church has given little attention to it. The most logical reason for the church’s failure is that Satan has been successful in his deception. This is a significant part of what Paul had in mind when he wrote to the Romans, “stop being conformed to this world” (Romans 12: 2, literal translation). Being conformed or not conformed to the world includes the things we do and don’t do, but it goes way back to the world view with which we interpret what we experienced in the world. This problem of world view is also involved in Jesus statement, “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8: 32). It may help us to understand what we are talking about if we look at some representatives world views. People seem to develop a great deal of tolerance for contradiction in their beliefs system, and as a result, we seldom find a society where

all the people hold exactly the same world view. This is essentially true of those of us who live in the West. A major pollster says that Americans don’t believe anything. It is that they believe everything. He is referring to the fact that there is a great deal of tolerance for conflict in professed beliefs. Persons who at one point seem to be very Western and scientific in their outlook will at other times resort to very animistic practices or to profession of Christian faith. It will help to understand the differences in world view, however, in order to see how the belief system may be in conflict, comparing it with what the Bible has to say can provide a significant difference if seeking to do GOD’s will is passionately desirable to follow GOD. The Bible is emphatic clear at the time to provide us directions that comes directly from GOD’s throne of grace, “Always be strong and courageous, and always live by all of the law I gave to my servant Moses, never turning from it—

even ever so slightly—so that you may succeed wherever you go. Let the words from the book of the law be always on your lips. Meditate on them day and night so that you may be careful to live by all that is written in it. If you do, as you make your way through this world, you will prosper and always find success. This is My command: be strong and courageous. Never be afraid or discouraged because I am your God, the Eternal One, and I will remain with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1: 7 – 9). What do you reflect when you read such words? Were you uncomfortable deep inside of your heart? Did you realize GOD’s words were design to produce conviction within your heart, soul, and spirit? Is part of the sanctification process, and God’s way to establish a process of communication with us? “The words of the wise are like goads; the collected sayings of the masters are like the nail-tipped sticks used to drive the sheep, given by one Shepherd.” (Ecclesiastes 12: 11)

RENEWING YOUR MIND By Reynaldo Rodriguez A winnable battle is potentially possible depending on our capacity to believe, (grace). Yes we are in a spiritual battle, and it is folly to think otherwise, but this is certainly not to suggest we are helpless victims in the battle. We have all the resources necessary to win, but we have to use those resources. We are never promised automatic protection because we are Christians, and the way to victory is

not because we are Christians, and the way to victory is not by using the right techniques. Israel had to do things God’s way in order to win against their enemies, and that principle has not changed. We are free to live as God intended for us to live only when we live according to the truth described in HIS words, (Bible) so, we turn next to a closer look at the role of truth in our

relationship with GOD and with our enemy. Who am I, really? What difference does it make what you think about yourself? Maybe a more accurate question is, what standards do you use to determine who you are? Or, even more accurately, who has the right to tell you who you are? How do you know what to live about yourself? How we answer these questions will determine how we will live, because we may not live what we profess, but we will always live what we believe, (grace). Or, to put it in another way we can not behave consistently in a manner inconsistent with what believe about ourselves. It should be clear by now that we believe that God is the only source of truth, and this includes the truth about who

REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE DECEMBER 2015

we are. We need to agree with God about ourselves, as well as about everything else in life. Should I love myself? In recent years a great many books and articles have been written on subjects like self—acceptance, self—image, self—confidence and self—concept. Some authors argue strongly for the need to develop a healthy self— image. Others argue that any focus on the self is unbiblical. Jesus told us to deny ourselves. Some say that the commandment to love your neighbor as yourself, (Matthew 22: 39) implies that we have to love ourselves first before we can love others as we love ourselves. What is the truth about loving or not loving ourselves? As we noted with the words world and flesh, the word self is used in several very different ways. We thus need to ask which self

we are talking about loving. It should be noted that there is no Greek word used in the New Testament that has a one for one correspondence with our English word self. I’s use in the English translation is what we have to deal with, however we use it with several different meanings. For example, in the instructions for observing the Day of Atonement, it was decreed that “anyone who does not deny himself on that day must be cut off for his people” (Leviticus 23: 29). The meaning of denying oneself in this context is that people of Israel were not to do their usual work on that day in a manner consistent with Sabbath observance. It was not that the things they were to abstain from were bad. It was rather that the Day of Atonement was a very special day in the calendar of Israel, on which ordinary pursuits were to be set aside so that the focus could be on GOD and on his plan for dealing with the sins of His people. We sometimes use the term self-denial in this way today. We deny ourselves legitimate things in order to pursue higher things. But this is not the denial of self that Jesus was talking about in His very forthright statement, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Mark 8: 34, emphasis added). The use of the term self in this implied command is with the meaning He had in mind when He said to the religious leaders of His day, “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence” (Matthew 23: 25, emphasis added).

This principle continues to operate in the warfare in which we are engaged today. Do things God’s way, “All of Scripture is God-breathed; in its inspired voice, we hear useful teaching, rebuke, correction, instruction, and training for a life that is right” (2 Timothy 3: 16, The Voice). Notice the concept Paul describe in a Biblical Kodak moment for history, “All of Scripture is God-breathed;” and not just the parts we like from the word of GOD. Polaroid words from the higher heavenliest wisdom above. Believing the contrary open Pandora’s box into our lives, when the opposite is highly desired which is to obey God’s word’s to remain blessed. Do this God’s way, and God will be responsible for the results. Do things our way, and we must be responsible for the results. So, if the outcome of the battle we are called on to fight depends on our doing things God’s way, we need to make certain that our relationship with the Lord is a functional one and that it is up to date. We also need to be certain that we are in touch with the Lord through knowledge of His Word and a meaningful prayer life. The battle is for the mind, if we can win that battle, we can win the war against darkness.

DO THINGS GOD’S WAY By Reynaldo Rodriguez Do things GOD’s way,” the angel prompted, “and GOD will be responsible for the results.” Gideon chose to obey, and with 300 men armed only with torches, clay pots, and trumpets they routed the whole army of the Midianites. (Judges 6 – 7) When Israel did not bother to consult GOD before a battle and tried to figure things out for themselves, they always lost. At Ai, for example, they did their demographic study and made their strategy decision based on their own evaluation of the situation. Much to their surprise and consternation, they were soundly defeated by the men of the little village of Ai. In fact, 36 Israelite families were without husbands and fathers after that abortive battle. They did things their way, apparently without even praying about it, and they got what their way could produce. (see Joshua 7 – 8) This principle continues to operate in the warfare in which we are engaged today. Do things God’s way, “All of Scripture is God-breathed; in its inspired voice, we hear useful teaching, rebuke, correction, instruction, and training for a life that is right” (2 Timothy 3: 16, The Voice). Notice the concept Paul captures in a Biblical Kodak moment for history, “All of Scripture is God-breathed;” and not just the parts I like from

the word of GOD. Believing the contrary open Pandora’s box into our lives, when the opposite is highly desired which is to obey God’s word’s to remain blessed. In this revealing autobiography, you will read about a life and ministry that had been forged in the furnace of adversity. Years of abuse, addiction and alienation had almost crushed the destiny that God had designed. This story of triumph will encourage the parent who is interceding for their wayward child, the soul that is in desperate need of intervention and anyone in ministry who is on the verge of quitting. Kevin Bishop is concerned about our society and understands what this generation needs. Overcoming a life filled with satanic vices and violence, his ministry is built upon four basic principles: 1. Giving hope to the hopeless. 2. Offering healing to the hurting. 3. Showing love to the unloved. 4. Extending acceptance to those who have been discarded. “He who has been forgiven much loves much (Luke 7:47). Kevin R. Bishop is the Senior Pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and founder of Kevin Bishop Ministries, Inc. This book is a provides perspectives on the origins of Saggin along with brilliant and hilarious examples to explain some simple but deep truths. In those truths that revealed, Blumenberg explains why Saggin is not only dangerous to an individuals self esteem and image but most importantly why it’s a destroyer of their destiny. Ultimately this book is a cry for men to pull their consciousness up. Blumenberg no stranger to being downtrodden rose out of many circumstances that should have destroyed him. But like a phoenix out of the ashes from the fiery trials of life, he has risen again to be an example to the world of the grace God gives to mankind. His goal is to exemplify that the dash between his birth date and death date will be a plus and not a negative. This book is the first step towards that goal. The proceeds in part will be applied to programs for mentoring young men and women to reach their highest pinnacle. This is a must read book that will assist parents, educators, and most of all the Saggin individuals to recognize who they really are. The books crying message is echoed in these wise words. Addiction No temptation has overtaken me that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let me be tempted beyond my ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that I may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13). I decree and declare that all strongholds of addiction are broken off my life in the name of Jesus. I will be sober-minded and watchful because my adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). I am wise and will not be deceived because wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging (Proverbs 20:1).

Wine will not inflame me! Woe to them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night (Isaiah 5:11). Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil (Matthew 6:13). The Son has made me free and I shall be free indeed (John 8:36). I am a servant of obedience unto righteousness. I will put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof (Romans 13:14). I will flee fornication because committing fornication is sinning against my own body (1 Corinthians 6:18). I am in Christ and a new creature. Old things are passed away. All things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Abandoned: According to Webster, adjectives for abandoned are forsaken or deserted and the synonyms are discarded and rejected. Are you feeling this emotion today? Maybe your spouse, family, or friends have abandoned you. Just know that God is with you always and according to his word he will never leave you. God loves you and is just a prayer away. God is faithful and you can always count on him. Other people have the potential to disappoint and let you down. Put your trust in God and not man. Dear Heavenly Father, Oh How Excellent is your name in all the earth! I will praise your name mighty God. I am suffering from abandonment but you are with me. Psalms 142 (NCV) says, “I cry out to the LORD; I pray to the LORD for mercy. I pour out my problems to him; I tell him my troubles. When I am afraid, you, LORD, know the way out. In the path where I walk, a trap is hidden for me. Look around me and see. No one cares about me. I have no place of safety; no one cares if I live. LORD, I cry out to you. I say, “You are my protection. You are all I want in this life.” Listen to my cry, because I am helpless. Save me from those who are chasing me, because they are too strong for me. Free me from my prison, and then I will praise your name. Then good people will surround me, because you have taken care of me.” I will give all my worries and cares to you Lord because you care for me as in 1 Peter 5:7. Psalm 31:22 (NLT) says, “In panic I cried out, “I am cut off from the LORD!” But you heard my cry for mercy and answered my call for help.” Psalm 27:10 (NLT) says, “Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.” 2 Timothy 4: 16 -17 (NKJV) says, “At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them. But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me, and that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. ” Lord, it says in Isaiah 49:15-16, that you would not forget me and my name is written on the palms of your hands. Leviticus 26:11(NLT) says, “I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.” Lord, your word tells me multiple times that you will never forsake me. Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT) says, “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Joshua 1:5 (NLT) says, “No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live; for I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.” Psalm 37:28 (NLT) says, “For the Lord loves justice, and He will never abandon the godly.” God, I thank you being with me and I thank you for turning my situation around. PRAY FOR YOUR ENEMIES Dear Heavenly Father, You are a merciful God. I come boldly to your throne. Lord, today I will pray for my enemies. Lord, when I bless my enemies, I am blessing myself. Lord, you said you will curse those who curse me and bless those who bless me. Lord, that’s why I am praying for them because they do not know what they are doing. So I am praying that you will have mercy on them because they will need it. Matthew 5:43-44 (NCV) says, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemies. But I say to you, love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you.” Luke 6:28 (NCV) says, “Bless those who curse you, pray for those who are cruel to you.” God bless me to walk in love today because you are love. I need protection from my enemies. I pray a hedge of protection and a fire wall around me. Proverbs 16:7 says,” When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.” God I will worship you based on your promise of deliverance. Second Kings 17:39 says, “Rather, worship the LORD your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies.” Lord, I refuse to be afraid because Deuteronomy 3:22 says, “Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God He shall fight for you.” Deuteronomy 1:29-30, says “Do not be in dread or afraid of them. The Lord your God who goes before you will Himself fight for you.” I know that I am protected based on your Word. Psalms 14:6 says, “The wicked frustrate the plans of the oppressed, but the Lord will protect his people.” God I will continue to praise you regardless and my mind will be stayed on you so I can have perfect peace. Lord I thank you in advance for hearing my prayer and answering my prayer. In Jesus’s name. Amen. Available on www.createspace.com, www.amazon.com, and kindle.

Did you know that righteousness is a gift? That’s right! It’s a free gift offered to you by faith through Jesus Christ. Romans 5:17 says, “Receive the abundance of grace and the FREE GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. That’s right, when you accept this free gift of righteousness; you will reign in this life. That means no matter how evil or how mess up a situation is you will overcome it through your righteousness in Christ. Love endures all. Christ has giving us the victory. So what does righteousness mean? It simply means to be right with God. This is powerful because Jesus died for us and bore the penalty of our sins so we can have access to the God the Father. Righteousness is not a feeling but it’s based on your faith. No matter how awful you sinned in the past, if you confess your sins and repent, God will cleanse you of all unrighteousness. Will you accept this free gift? This gift of righteousness has so many benefits. 1) FAVOR. For thou, LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor will thou compass him as with a shield.” (Psalm 5:12) 2) DELIVERANCE. “The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.” (Psalm 34:17) 3) PROVISION. “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread … The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein forever.” (Psalm 37:25, 29) 4) SUCCESS. “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.” (Psalm 92:12) 5) ANSWERS TO PRAYERS. “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers…” (1 Peter 3:12) Available on www.createspace.com, www.amazon.com, and kindle.

Tina was raised in the church and always tried to live a godly life. Her family moved away to a new town for her father’s new job. The move really affected Tina because she missed her old friends and her old church. At her new church there wasn’t a lot of youth there so Tina wasn’t able to bond with too many females her age. Tina longed for a friend and she met a group of girls hanging outside of the school one day. She was invited to a house party and she went later that night. This is where Tina put her relationship with God on the back burner. Tina began to skip school, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, and have sex with boys. Her parents noticed a change in Tina and did some investigation and found out what their daughter was doing. Her parents put Tina on punishment for the remainder of the school year. While Tina was on punishment, she realized how her new teenage friends influenced her to back slide from God. Tina repented her sins to God and re-dedicated her life to him. Have you ever had someone in your life that has a bad influence on you? Does this person compromise your daily walk with God somehow? We have to ask God for wisdom in these situations. Sometimes we might not be the most popular person in school or work and everyone might not like us. We have to be cautious and realize that we are God pleasers and not people pleasers. When walking with God, you can’t do what everyone else is doing because it is not in his will. We have to take a stand and try our best to not hang out with ungodly people or constantly be in an ungodly environment. That doesn’t mean not associating with them or totally cut them off because we might be the only bible or godly influence in that person’s life. Just try to plant seeds in that person’s life and let God do the rest. But we have to be careful because the devil is prowling like a roaring lion. He knows where he is going even though you can’t see. Those fiery darts the enemy throws at you causes the turbulence such as the trials and tribulations we face. No matter what we face, we will get to our destinations because

the Lord is leading the way. Pray against mudslides in Florida and Georgia. Pray against deadly natural disasters such as tornados, hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. Pray against attacks from terrorism. Pray against school shootings and attacks against Christians. Pray against tragedies such as train crashes and hostage situations. Pray against food outbreaks. How bad do you really want it? You have been

crying out for God to use you but you aren’t willing to go through the process. Trust the process. Follow instructions! Obedience Is Key! God is moving and He is doing the impossible even now! Believe the things that God has spoken to you. Believe comes before manifestations! Anything is pos-

sible to those who believe! The time is now! I am the God of the now! I am doing a new thing! Do you not perceive it!

(Jude 1 Revelation) Fight the good fight of faith. We must defend our faith. (2 Timothy 4 Revelation) Jesus Christ will judge everyone both living and the dead at the second coming. We are to teach the word, rebuke, train, impact, and encourage others. Keep the faith and just be ready for the coming of the Lord. We are in the time where people don’t want to listen to the truth. They will find teachers who will lie to them and not give them the truth of the gospel. They will modify scriptures and take a verse out of context to justify their sinful lifestyle. They only want to hear what they want to hear. They will not hear or accept the truth anymore but lies. We must remain watchful at all times because we have a real live enemy (the devil). Remain sober minded. We must endure the affliction we face in this walk because it will not last always. We must go out an be an evangelist such as preaching the gospel and winning souls to Jesus Christ. We must also be faithful in the ministry God has giving us. We have to ensure we fulfil our duties as a servant to God. Each of God’s servants will receive a crown of righteousness when we leave this earth. The crown of righteousness is one of the many rewards we will receive in heaven. We must forgive those who hurt us. God strengthens us in the hard times. He is our deliverer. He is the source of everything we need. Pray for your enemies. There is a pressing to get the oil. You won’t get certain anointings until you go through some stuff. Look for the blessing in the midst of the chaos. Your blessing could be right under your nose! It’s time to throw away some junk! Get rid of those things that are stealing your joy and peace!

Last weekend, I was just drained from going through the trials in life. My body had become physically ill from the fiery trial. All in one week, I broke out in hives, had severe heart pains, vomiting daily, and bad headaches. I was dealing with family issues and not feeling good enough. I called the prayer line Saturday morning and asked Prophetess Kimberly Hargraves for prayer. I never told her anything, but the Holy Spirit knew. He led her how to pray for me. As she was praying, I felt the Holy Spirit breaking things off of me. I felt things moving through my body and I was trembling in His presence. After the prayer, I was liberated and felt so much better. Peace overwhelmed me. God truly knows all and sees all. It amazes me how He contin-

ues to perfect the things that concern me. Shamecca, NY I had been sick in my body for days. I had night sweats and a swollen throat that wouldn’t go anywhere no matter how much I prayed and rebuked it. I cried out to God and asked Him, “Why am I suffering like this?” I was so desperate for healing but I couldn’t go to the doctor due to not having medical insurance. I had no other choice but to depend on God. I called the prayer line Saturday morning and ask Prophetess Kimberly Hargraves prayed for me, God showed her that my prayers were hitting the ceiling because I haven’t tithed in a long time. I tried to explain why I was unable to pay tithes, but the spirit of the

Lord ministered to me. I understood then that I could tithe and I was going to obey the word of the Lord. As soon as I made up my mind to sow a seed, the power of God hit my body. The swelling in my throat disappeared and the pain was gone. Then one minute later, I began to vomit. I had vomited up the spirits that were attacking my body. That has never happened before. I am delivered. I am set free. God heard my prayers. Since I obeyed Him, He moved on my behalf. Mae, FL I hadn’t sleep well in weeks. I was running on fumes. It didn’t matter how much I tried to rest, I was just so restless. I called the prayer line Saturday morning and Prophetess Kimberly Hargraves called out the spirit

of insomnia. Instantly, I felt something break off me. Then I felt lighter and I felt a refreshing. I am now sleeping well at night. I thank God for giving Prophetess a word of knowledge about me. His presence and the anointing felt so good. Michelle I had some unforgiveness issues towards my father. I had been angry with Him for years for not being there in my childhood. Our relationship is on rocky foundation. I recently got saved but so desperately want my father to be saved since he is up in age. I have found it difficult to forgive my dad at times. I cried and prayed over this issue several times. When I called into the prayer line Saturday morning, Prophetess Kimberly Hargraves called out childhood abandonment. Immediately, I felt something shoot through my body. It was a tingling sensation that went through my heart, arms and legs. I knew that at that moment, God was touching me and healing my hard heart. Since that morning, my heart has been soft and tender towards my father. I believed that God delivered me for unforgiveness. I know that one day, my Father will be saved and know Jesus personally as his Lord and Savior. Stanley

Over the last couple of years, I went through the worst trial. My marriage of twenty years fell apart and ended in divorce. My husband left me for another woman. The house that we shared is now on the market and I have nowhere to go. I had been heartbroken because there are so many memories in that house. To make matters worse, my oldest son had gotten diagnosed with bone cancer. I had lost all hope. I didn’t understand why all this bad stuff was happening to our family. My son was no longer able to play hockey. He loves hockey. God told me to call Prophetess Kimberly Hargraves so I obeyed. I told my son that you have to get on this call and have Prophetess Kimberly pray for you. My son agreed. We went inside the car for a few minutes to place the call before we went inside the doctor’s office for his bone scan. When she prayed for him, he felt hot all over and felt heat on his knee. After prayer, we went back inside the doctor’s office to get the bone scan. After several days, the doctor called us into the office. He was scratching his head because he said he had misdiagnosed my son. He said he wasn’t sure that it was cancer looking at the bone scans. I am so thankful that God healed my son. Now my son can go to college and continue to

play hockey. My ex-husband was in shocked because God healed my son of cancer. Leila, GA God gave me a word and said that I will never be homeless. In the natural, it seemed like I would be homeless. I had an eviction notice on my door and I was overwhelmed with financial burdens. All I could do was pray in the spirit (tongues) and worship. I had two choices, I could either trust God and receive my promise or I could doubt God and miss my blessing. I chose to trust God and God moved suddenly. God moved me to a cheaper apartment and paid my rent off for the rest of the year. I am so grateful. We must walk by faith and not by sight. We must learn to war with our prophecies, meaning take the promise into prayer. We must believe the word of the Lord and we shall be established (2 Chronicles 20:20). Kimberly, CO
