GOSSIP: AN OBSERVATION Taylur Holland

Every time.
Gossip makes two women look like the closest of friends.

She is bubbling up with words that do nothing but destroy and puncture the hearer with daggers of fear. So she speaks. Word after word, her own voice soothing and mesmerizing to her own ears. It’s a sound that satisfies her for a moment, but when the words run out, she is distraught. So she goes to dig up some more and uncover anything that she can go tell anyone who will listen. I have seen Gossip bring together the strang-

It is one of the greatest façades and illusions I have ever seen. One of the greatest because afterwards -or after words -those two women go back to having nothing in common. They go back to their respective corners until the next time Gossip needs to be satisfied and the hearer needs to feel like she is important enough to belong. TO BE GRATEFUL Shirley Cooper Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:18) No matter what happens, always be thankful! That’s how being raised in Christ feels like. However, it doesn’t always seem to be that easy. Let’s think long and hard on that, shall we? Hmm... being grateful when you lose your job? Your house? Your car? Or worst yet, your child? Maybe even your mother or father? Yes, that’s the reality of chaos. Can we truly be grateful during rough times? I’ve actually encountered mothers who have lost their child to this world’s violence. Fathers who have had to bury their son because of drug overdose through addiction. Losing something or someone that you love isn’t an easy pill to swallow. In fact, it’s so difficult that being happy just doesn’t cut it. Some go through moments of hate, regret, anger, and deep hurt that no man can touch and heal; a pain that requires the miraculous breath from the God of the universe. So, how does one find this God? Because from stories that I’m sure we’ve all heard, God
wasn’t always there to pick up those broken pieces! Or...was He? I can’t speak for anyone else about deep feelings. I most certainly couldn’t put my feet into someone else’s situation either. But what I can do is share my testimony with you! I have lost loved ones along the way: aunts, uncles, grandparents, grandbabies, friends, pets, and even my mother and father. I’ve even had to say goodbye to my son’s twin. Death is the worst pain that I’ve ever had to endure. How could we even compare our job, car or house with the ultimate pain of mourning?
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2019
It’s a sting that just wouldn’t go away. And it did take a mighty God to calm the storm. A true Savior that would become the anchor that I needed to hold me safely until the storm was ready to pass. I cried and cried over and over again. I thought of all the things I could have done to turn the tables around and to just feel some comfort through this worn-out soul that cried out for mercy. Losing my daddy was the worst. My mom was stricken with a disease that slowly took her memory. Her death on this earth was more of a relief, as she was freed from the disaster it would unravel from day to day. However, my daddy was strong. He wasn’t ready to go yet. He had plans to travel more. He wanted to watch us flourish. His desire to see his children succeed was something that he wanted most. And he didn’t get to see that. Just knowing that one day my daddy was here, healthy and strong, and then he was gone. Burying my daddy was devastating. I died slowly inside. My heart just couldn’t say goodbye. Grateful? No. I was far from grateful. I was angry, hurt, lost and confused. All the prayer chains that I posted did absolutely nothing. Because no matter how many prayer warriors lifted their voices...ONLY ONE VOICE could command life. Only ONE! God. My daddy left this earth and my cry for help slowly took its toll. I began to rethink my entire existence. I began to wonder way too much. I knew that God was there, but I needed to understand why He wasn’t there to breathe life back into the man I loved so much. Why? Through my troubled times, I fought with God. Like Job, I knew that He existed, but I was very angry at Him.
It took a long time for the Lord to work in me. The truth was, I wanted my time to mourn and He gave me all the time that I needed. Through all the wrestling, I learned a few things. I learned that time does heal and mend a broken heart. I learned that through death, there is life. I learned that while we walk this journey, nothing is put on hold, because if it’s to happen, it will, and if it’s not to happen, then it won’t. I’ve learned that while my daddy lost His life here, he found it with Christ. No more worrying for him. No more wondering. No more sadness. But the greatest thing I had learned through my storm was that my loved ones did not die in vain. They didn’t die for no reason. In fact, they now have eternal life and through all the pain, they endured here.....God has healed there. And in that alone, I am more than grateful. I am grateful that my mother’s memory is sharp as a blade, my grandparents walk without limping, my grandbabies are playing on streets of gold, my pets are running on greener pastures, friends and family are enjoying the great feast with God, and those who were lost have been found. They have reached the hope that we’re all still trying to reach. So, today, as you decide how you’ll spend Thanksgiving Day, remember to be grateful for all the lives that you’ve touched. Keep close to your heart those who have passed on to eternal joy. Because no matter what we endure here on this earth, it can never compare to the joy that God has for us in Heaven.

WATER Kimberly Moses
I consider my time in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to be my wilderness season because I was 1,625 miles away from my family. It was a dark time for me because I was on probation, struggling financially, and lonely. I would often cry because I was battling depression. Afterward, I would have to minister and pray for others that were experiencing the same or similar trials as me. While stepping into my calling, I met a lot of anointed people who would encourage me. They would call me to pray, which helped me to keep going on this faith journey. One person that I met was Pastor Kevin R. Bishop. He messaged me one day after watching one of my YouTube videos. He had no idea that I was suffering from anxiety and that it took me about ten rounds of making a video that was to my liking. I was ex-
tremely hard on myself because I said words backward, stutter, mispronounced a word, or left something out. So I would delete a decent video and do it all over again before uploading it on YouTube. At that time, I was still struggling with my self-image, so I was shocked when Pastor Bishop messaged me. He said, “I would like to host you one day at a women’s conference.” I was just obeying the Lord, who told me to make videos. Videos were the last thing that I wanted to do because the feeling of nervousness made me sick to my stomach sometimes. I learned the hard way that when God speaks to obey. I made the mistake of going around the same mountain, and I wanted out of the wilderness. My heart’s desire was to go home
REJOICE ESSENTIAL MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2019
and be back with my family in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Pastor Bishop would pray and prophesy over me through his periscope videos. One day, he was praying, and the Lord told him to give me a prayer cloth or handkerchief. Once a month, he gets a prayer cloth from his spiritual father whose spiritual roots trace back to Smith Wigglesworth. The Holy Spirit or the anointing can be imparted into handkerchiefs or aprons. In Acts 19:12, Apostle Paul would lay hands on handkerchiefs and give them to the sick. Pastor Bishop didn’t understand why the Lord told him to do so, but he obeyed. Pastor Bishop didn’t know that I was on the verge of quitting. He wasn’t aware that I was connected to the wrong person in ministry that was depleting me spiritually. I felt like my ministry was dying, and I needed a fresh touch from the Lord. I learned that the right relationships are critical in ministry because when I got connected to the wrong people, doors closed, my relationships were under attack, and things began to dry up around me. However, when I got connected with the right people, doors opened, my relationships flourished, and I started prospering. Months later, I eventually disconnected myself from that wrong relationship and as soon as I did, two major doors opened: international radio and television. Pastor Bishop mailed me the prayer cloth and his book, “The Preacher’s Pain: Forged into the Furnace of Adversity.” His book is awesome and helped me to understand the trials we go through in life and even encounter in ministry. I was ecstatic when the package arrived. I took the handkerchief out the envelope and I began to praise God. I felt the anointing when I touched it. It felt like electric currents surging through my body. Suddenly, the Spirit of Worship (John 4:23) came upon me. I started singing unto God new songs that I believed angels were singing in heaven before the throne of God (Revelation 7:11). These songs just dropped into my spirit and came out of

my mouth. They brought the refreshing that I desperately needed. I received a fresh indwelling of the Holy Spirit as I sang unto Him right in my living room. I sang my heart out and released every burden that I had been carrying. Hours passed by, I was exhausted, but my spirit was on high alert in the presence of the Lord. I laid down across my bed, still singing to God while holding the handkerchief then I drifted off to sleep. When I was asleep, I heard the voice of God, “Read Psalms 106:11.” Then I woke up and immediately got my Bible. When I looked up the Scripture, it said, “And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.”

My mouth dropped open, and it was a Rhema Word. I was dealing with a warlock who was coming against my ministry. I was feeling drained, almost burnout, and I could barely feel God. During this time, I would receive many prophecies about witchcraft, controlling leaders, people praying against me, and so on. I was tired. I knew that I had to be bold and cut all ties. Psalms 106:11 was confirmation that God heard my cries and He was fighting for me. He was going to destroy my spiritual enemies, and none of them would remain. God sent Moses and Aaron to Pharaoh to deliver His people. Pharaoh was very stubborn, and God had to send ten plagues (water turning to blood, frogs, lice, flies, livestock pestilence, boils, hail, locusts, darkness and the killing of firstborn children, Ex. 7:14–12:36) to get his attention. The last plague of the death of the first born broke Pharoah down some, so he finally agreed to let the Israelites go. God made Pharaoh’s heart hard (Ex. 9:12) so He could get the Glory of the miracle of the Red Sea. However, Pharoah quickly changed his mind, and pursued the Israelites as they approached the Red Sea. God allowed His children to cross over safely then let the water consumed and destroyed the Egyptians. I was grateful that God revealed to me that He was destroying my enemies in the Spirit. Who knew that water could be a Biblical weapon? I began to pray Psalm 106:11 as a prayer point and received deliverance from demonic oppression. It is not the will of God for His children to be in demonic bondage. God is going to send His water to destroy that demonic force that’s coming against you in Jesus’ name. Lord, refresh me in Your presence, in Jesus’ name. Lord, revive me and don’t allow me to die spiritually. Lord, renew me every day with a fresh outpouring of Your Glory.
Lord, bless me to be mindful of the people who I allow to connect to me. Lord, disconnect me from people who have false motives concerning me. Lord, bless me with the right relationship and people who want to see me blessed, in Jesus’ name. Lord, give me the wisdom to make better choices in life. Lord, give me the confidence to trust You so I can step out of my comfort zone. I decree that I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. Lord, allow the right people to notice me, in Jesus’ name. Lord, open up the stubborn doors, in Jesus’ name. Lord, send the right people to pour into me and impart into my life. Lord, pour out a fresh anointing today. Lord, bless me to sing new songs from heaven. I decree that I will worship the Lord in Spirit and Truth. Lord, destroy every witch and warlock who is praying against me, in Jesus’ name. Lord, speak to me in dreams and visions. Lord, send water to cover all my spiritual enemies where none of them remain, in Jesus’ name. Lord, fight for me and end any demonic resistance, in Jesus’ name.

ROASTED TURKEY Kimberly Moses
Have you ever cooked a turkey for Thanksgiving and it was dry? Well, it doesn’t have to be? Many years ago, I had to cook my first Thanksgiving dinner and I had no clue how to cook a turkey. Should I fry it? I thought to myself. No! I want to do a traditional roasted turkey. I asked many women who had been married for a while, including my mother. They all told me something similar, which was to cook the turkey in a bag on slow heat for hours. I went to Walmart and brought some turkey bags. I brought a ten-pound turkey and allowed it to thaw overnight in the refrigerator. I took the turkey out of the packaging then washed it off. I put butter, sage, thyme, cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper. Afterward, I placed the turkey in the bag and sealed the bag closed with the ties that it comes with. Next, I put
the bagged turkey in a roasting pan into the oven at 325 degrees and allowed it to bake for three to four hours or until it was done. The bag caught all the juices and flavors. The turkey was so juicy that it was almost falling off the bones. I used the juice or broth from the bag to make gravy and put the rest in my homemade stuffing. My turkey was a success. There weren’t any leftovers. Try using turkey bags for a delicious moist turkey.

QUONDA RENEE Interviewed by Anstrice Mcmillian Epps Interviewer: Thank you so much for taking the time to interview with us here at Rejoice Essential Magazine. I know that you’re tired because you have your conference going on. Quonda Renee: Thank you for having me. Interviewer: We have a few questions we would like to ask you. The first question is, how did you encounter God? Quonda Renee: When you go through hard seasons and everyone around you starts to flee away, the only person you have to rely on is God. God proves Himself to be God. That’s how God got me. Any hard season that I’ve been in, God has proven Himself to be faithful. A lot of times I’ve caused a lot of things to myself. I had to hit rock bottom, even with the whole “I Need A Word” thing, before I completely surrendered every area of my life to God. Everything that I thought was my foundation was shaken by God to prove that He is the ultimate foundation in my life Interviewer: Amen. I can so relate to that. Yes, God will do that. Sometimes we put our faith and trust in people instead of God. Quonda Renee: Absolutely. Interviewer: Every time we do that, He will rattle and shake that thing, like, “Oh no, put your focus back on me.” It’s always good because we need to focus on Him anyway, so He’s merciful in that way. I ran across you
by way of Facebook. Seeing “I Need A Word” and getting those clips on those days would encourage me. It would seem like I clicked on the right video at the right time. This year is when you opened up the page, after never seeing the person behind “I Need A Word” until this year, you shared your testimony. It blessed me so much. How did God reveal your purpose to you? Quonda Renee: The year of 2017 was a very, very, very hard year. I was struggling financially. Mind you, the year before in 2016 I just had gotten my Master’s degree and couldn’t really find a job that would pay me good money even though I had three degrees. I was doing all these freelance jobs and I was struggling. I surrendered every area of my life except my finances. I was still trying to be god of my finances. So I went through working four to five jobs, doing Uber, Postmate, SAT scoring, ESL for Asian kids, or whatever type of job I could get some type of money in. I was doing it and I wasn’t being fulfilled. Around July 2017 and I just cried out to God. “I know that there was to be more to life than this. I know there’s a purpose and a plan for my life, Lord. You have to show me. I can’t do this any longer.” I went on a fast and I was praying towards the end of July and I remember Him saying to me create a page and call it “I Need A Word.” I was just like, “Create a page and call it ‘I Need A Word,’ for what? I’m going through hell, Lord. How can I encourage other people?” At first, I told God no. I said, “I can’t

do this. I’m barely afloat. I’m struggling. I can barely keep my head above water, and you want me to help other people.” So, a few days went by and I still felt the pressing for it. I told God I’ll do it but….I tried to give God a conditional yes. I’ll do it, God, when I have time. I’ll do it, God, when I can. That’s what I was trying to tell the Lord, but when you really love God and you really have a heart for the Father, you can’t tell Him no. Around August 5, 2017, I finally said yes God. “Yes to your will and yes to your way. Whatever you want to do, God, I’ll do it.” When I did that, “I Need A Word” just magically grew overnight. It manifested so crazy. That night August 5, 2017, we had ten thousand followers. By day nine of creating the page, we had a hundred thousand followers. So, I knew it was God, it was nothing that I could have done because I didn’t even want to do it. I didn’t do anything fancy. I didn’t do anything crazy. I just heard the voice of God and did what He told me to do. “I Need A Word” has since opened doors for me and my gift definitely made room for me. I do marketing, digital marketing specifically, for pastors and leaders. “I Need A Word” has definitely opened the doors for me to do that. Interviewer: Amen. It’s a big, powerful page. I love God because He will use anything, especially since social media gets a bad rap but it’s all in how it is used. You just never know. Someone can be scrolling and see that video and it saves their life. That one message God will use to save their life, to stop them from committing suicide, or anything like that. The page is a blessing with so many ministers of the Gospel on there speaking the word and speaking through the Holy Spirit, you just never know who it will touch. Yes, it is a blessing and a gift to the body of Christ. With that being said, what do you love to do most in this ministry? You didn’t want to do it at first but you said yes to God. There was something on the inside that your gift made room for you as far as marketing, but there’s something there that you love to do most in
“

ministry. What is that?
”
Quonda Renee: I like serving. I like showing girls just like me that I didn’t have a big name and God still used me. I didn’t have it all together but God still used me. Like you said before, God uses anybody. I’m living proof of that. I always tell everybody that I’m just a girl from North Connecticut that God decided to get His will done through. He decided that He needed a willing vessel. Just because I said yes, He did it. So I just really feel called to serve. I love not only helping just the pastors and leaders with getting their exposure and their brand in order but also to help the people that I’ll never meet. “I Need A Word” goes to countries that I’ll never go to so I’m just grateful for that. Like you said before, there have been people on the brink of suicide and they will see a video. There have been people who stopped going to church and then they see a video and start going to church again.

I’m “ struggling.

There have been people who didn’t know anything about God but then they surrender their life to God because they saw something in a video‘. So the work is much greater than me; it will do much more than I could ever do. I’m just grateful for God to just choose me to do so. Interviewer: Amen, Amen. It’s crazy that one video can just do a whole 360 for someone. It really can. I know for the last two years, many videos would just come across. You just never know how a message can encourage someone so much in that rough place. It can be something that they need right then and there. What kind of wisdom would you give to the body of Christ right now? There is so much going on in the world, but there is a lot going on in the body of Christ. Because you have come across so many ministers and videos, God uses our vision to show us things. Seeing that you have seen a lot, what wisdom would you give the body of Christ at this mo-
ment in time? Quonda Renee: Serve on purpose and don’t forget why we are here. There’s going to be so much going in the body of Christ and outside of the body of Christ that we should not forget what we are called to do. We’re supposed to preach the gospel and, we’re supposed to bring the message to the world. There’s going to be distractions - people saying things and doing things. There is going to be stuff happening, but you can’t let that stop you from doing His will. His will is what matters. Some of the stuff you have to turn off. I’m very careful about what I allow in my space and spirit because it doesn’t take much to get contaminated by other people’s stuff. I’ve seen a lot. Until “I Need A Word,” I didn’t know a lot of this stuff existed. Seeing a lot has made me get closer to God, made me pray more, and made me very protective of my spirit. Interviewer: There are levels to this. It really is. It’s not saying one is better than, it’s just when you’re put on a platform, you’re exposed. Prophetess Valarie Moore said that. Quonda Renee: Yes, absolutely. Interviewer: So, everyone can see everything and this can make us drawback. That’s the whole point. If we were ‘altogether’ then we wouldn’t need God. It’s that thorn in the flesh - because of that need for God, He won’t remove it. He knows that some of us would wild out. When you see so much, it makes you aware of your own self. What do you see that we need the most of in the body of Christ? Quonda Renee: I think that we need to get back to biblical teaching. There’s a lot of other stuff going on and other stuff going around that we need to start holding each other accountable. Really lifting each other up and holding each other to a standard. Most of the people that I hang out with now are preachers. It’s kind of crazy because when I was younger, I remember saying there were two people that I wouldn’t hang out with:

the police and preachers. Now some of my best friends are preachers, so they hold me accountable but I make sure to hold them accountable too. I know they have great assignments, so I want to make sure that they do the will of the Father without all the distractions. There’s temptation left and right everywhere you go. It’s going to be something. We want to make sure that we hold each other accountable. We love each other, we treat each other right, and we go back to biblical teaching. I think we should do what the Word says. I feel like the Word can never steer you wrong. It can never return void. I feel like going back to biblical teaching would help the body. Interviewer: Amen. That is true. We need that. The teaching gift is so necessary. All the other gifts are important, every gift is, but teaching sound, solid, true doctrine is necessary. Not twisted and not distorted. It really is necessary. We have another question to ask. Go-

ing back to the beginning of your story, God asked you to start “I Need A Word” and you didn’t want to. For that person, that girl, or even that young man that God is pulling on to start something and they’re scared out of their boots, what solid advice would you give them? Quonda Renee: I would say that there is a freedom and a power in surrendering. I’m telling you. Everything wasn’t all together when I said yes to God, but things just started to move swiftly. Things that were probably held up for a while because when I did surrender my finances to Him, it started to flow and started to come down. I think that there’s a freedom and power in surrendering. Like I said before, when you truly have a heart and a love for the Father, you can’t tell Him no. You gotta do it scared, you gotta do it alone, you gotta do it afraid, but God is with you. If I never did this, it would never be an “I Need A Word.” Look at how many people would have missed out because of it and I would’ve been the hold up for somebody else’s blessing and breakthrough. People needed “I Need A Word” more than I needed to say yes. Interviewer: Also, “I Need A Word” has gone international with the Espanol version along with a podcast. So expansion is your way and it’s all for God to be glorified. We congratulate you on that. Are there any future endeavors that you have or envision for “I Need A Word?” Quonda Renee: Were developing an app right now as we speak. We wanted to just feature sermons in topical order. You can come on the app and if you need sermons about relationship, you can just search and find it. So, I’ve been working on that. We’ve been doing like a digital business structure. Not necessarily TV, but digital platforms. Right now, were on Roku and pretty soon we may do some other platforms like Sling TV or Verizon. I’m just shopping around to see what would be best for “I Need A Word.” We are doing some work in the studio. I’m working on getting a studio

and creating my own content. Interviewer: That’s awesome. It’s crazy how God can take one idea and just blow on that thing. We pray all the best for you and I Need A Word. Do you have any upcoming products, books, or events? You just finished the “I Need A Word” conference. Is there anything upcoming for “I Need A Word?” Quonda Renee: I’m working on a product line that we’re going to go hard for probably the end of the summer. My first marketing book is out. It’s about how I started “I Need A Word” and marketing tips for Christian entrepreneurs to help them build by faith and some practical tips to change your business. Interviewer: That is awesome. The fact that
you do love to serve and pour into other people is refreshing. A lot of times we see where selfishness goes on in the body of Christ. Elijah needed Elisha to pour into, so it is good that you’re using your gifts to help others in the body of Christ. More can be affected and can hear the Gospel. We thank you for being selfless with the gift that God has given you. How can you be contacted if they’re interested in your marketing or speaking engagements? Quonda Renee: By email at ineedaword.org that is the best way to contact me. Interviewer: We thank you so much for interviewing with us.

“The Making of A Prophet: Women Walking In Prophetic Destiny” is a must read! When I started reading the first declaration, I could feel the fire of God, so I knew this book was anointed. Some of the declarations in this book are declarations that I either already speak or have spoken over myself, and there are other declarations in this book I felt were for me. I also appreciate Prophetess Kim’s testimonies in this book. The transparency she displays is encouraging because just like so many others (including myself ), Prophetess Kim did not see herself as being worthy enough to used by God, especially as a prophet. When God called Prophetess Kim to the office of a prophet, she felt that she was in a terrible state in her life, but being in that state was how she was able to trust and rely on God. When Prophetess Kim finally surrendered to God, He was able to use her more for His glory. “The Making of A Prophet: Women Walking In Prophetic Destiny” is truly a blessing for me because it gives me the encouragement and boldness that I need to move in the prophetic without focusing on the distractions or objections from others who disagree with women operating in their God-given assignment. People will try to put limits on you, but when it comes to God, there are no limitations; Prophetess Kim makes that clear in this book. She challenges and breaks the barriers some people try to use against women operating in church, ministry, five-fold offices, etc. “The Making of A Prophet: Women Walking In Prophetic Destiny” will inspire you to move forward in your assignment with the confidence in knowing that God has you, He is with you, and you have what it takes to carry out His purpose for your life, with or without the approval of others. Thank you, Prophetess Kim, for allowing God to use you to bring this much-needed book forward, blessings to you always! —LaShana Lloyd *** This book is very necessary! Women are misunderstood not only throughout the world as far as equality, but they are also misunderstood when it comes to God’s purpose in their lives. God mandated everyone, male or female, with a purpose. I’m so glad that this book described Biblical women that God uses continually throughout the Word of God as well as powerful testimonies from the writer, Prophetess Kimberly Moses. Being a student of the School of Prophets, Prophetess Kimberly imparts to her students, and we began to flow in dreams, visions, Word of knowledge, Word of Wisdom and increase of discerning of spirits. Her Love for people and God shows and is all in the fruit God does through Prophetess Kimberly. This book will bless you! — Anstrice Mcmillian Epps *** I enjoy reading books by Prophetess Kimberly Moses. She’s an amazing teacher of the Prophetic Ministry and an asset to the Body of Christ. This book will enlighten your understanding of the Women Prophets in Biblical times and help you to understand what women Prophets of today are dealing with. It will bring clarity of your own identity as a Prophet of God. I used to feel left out and different from the rest, until I found people that were just like myself. Her books are filled with wisdom; the knowledge you obtain from her books will stick with you. I had the pleasure of taking her course “School of the Prophets,” which was life-changing for me. I encourage anyone looking to fulfill the prophetic call on your life to take her course. You will never be the same. — Felecia Jackson
