The visual arts scene in Columbia provides a robust profile of theater, art and film. Local stages bring riveting productions and movies to CoMo while galleries add a colorful dimension to the city’s cultural experiences.

Columbia Entertainment Co. This nonprofit community theater has enacted classics and lesser-known productions since 1979. 1800 Nelwood Drive
Maplewood Barn Community Theatre This theater, the only live outdoor theater in mid-Missouri, was founded in 1973 and continues to bring quality productions to Columbia. 2900 E. Nifong Blvd.
Talking Horse Productions Columbia’s only blackbox theater offers a unique experience for attendees through its intimate and immersive construction. 210 Saint James St., Suite B
TRYPS Children’s Theater This theater stages beloved shows starring kids in third grade through college. This year, TRYPS will feature Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr. among other productions. 1200 E. Broadway
The Warehouse Theatre Company This company is run by Stephens College students who hone their performance skills while delivering quality productions. 104 Willis Ave.
Ragtag Cinema Independent film and media reign at this intimate theater, which offers food and drinks for moviegoers. 10 Hitt St. Access Arts Kids and adults can learn ceramics, painting, drawing and bookmaking at this studio, which focuses on producing a creative learning experience for participants regardless of their age, ability or economic background. 1724 McAlester St.
Artlandish Gallery This gallery serves as an entrance to the North Village Arts District and hosts local artists who display and sell their creations. 1019 E. Walnut St.
The Atelier Offering programs for children who are 11 and younger, this school emphasizes the importance of the artistic process. Programs include classes for caregivers and children together, preschool, primary enrichment and yoga. 1609 Chapel Hill Road, Suite G
The Canvas on Broadway Group classes provide a fun and creative way to be artistic and enjoy time with friends and family. 706 E. Broadway, Suite 100

University Concert Series
Since 1907, University Concert Series has been entertaining mid-Missouri residents with renowned music, dance, theater and comedy from around the world. As part of MU, the series promotes educational outreach and relies on public involvement and community engagement.

University Concert Series Manager Robert Wells emphasizes the series’ diversity and how it offers viewers one-of-a-kind entertainment. “I would encourage everyone to come with an open mind and immerse themselves in the experience because every show is an experience that can’t really be replicated,” Wells says. Concert series events are held at Missouri Theatre (203 N. Ninth St.) and Jesse Auditorium (801 Conley Ave.).
