MELBOURNE MARKETS

As the multicultural, gastronomic and very liveable city that Melbourne is, it is no surprise that this city is home to a number of wonderful markets.

featuring the odd stall with homewares, plants, books, candles and homemade body care the Camberwell market is open every Sunday from 6.30am.

If you are sick of rushing up and down the cold, sterile and fluorescent-lit isles of the big supermarket chains then why not spend your Saturday or Sunday wandering around a market?

The Rose Street Market in Fitzroy is open every Saturday and Sunday from 11am with the bulk of items produced by Melbourne’s emerging creatives. Known mainly for its art, the market also features fashion, collectables and more.

Treat yourself to local produce, unique gastronomic experiences, handmade creations, one-of-a-kind artworks and preloved treasures. Every suburb in Melbourne has a nearby market of some kind but some of our favourites include: The mother of all markets, with over 600 retailers sprawling across the centre of the city, the Queen Victoria Market is a historical landmark, major tourist attraction and home to the famous van made hot jam doughnuts. Open every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 6am, and every Sunday from 9am. The self-proclaimed “food lovers market” - the Prahran Market is the oldest continually running market in Australia. A hotspot for gourmet delights, fresh fruit and vegetables and local fish and meat, the Prahran Market hosts regular demonstrations and food festivals. Open every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7am, and Sunday from 10am. The Camberwell Market is known as a haven for second-hand clothing hunters and sellers alike. Also

If you are located close to the Peninsula or enjoy taking a break at one of the many seaside towns then the Red Hill Market is worth a visit. With over 300 creative stallholders, the Red Hill Market has been running since 1975 and is open every Saturday from 8am. Enjoy one of the famous bacon and egg rolls or some lightly battered seafood from The Flying Calamari Brothers. Every Saturday morning Gleadall Street Market in Richmond comes to life with local produce, from organic fruit and vegetables to artisan baked good, free-range eggs, seafood and meat. Open every Saturday from 7am, bring your own bags as this market is plastic bag free. With so many wonderful markets all over Melbourne, there is something interesting for everyone to try this weekend.
