6 STEPS TO HOME FIRE SAFETY Deck the halls, and the rest of your home, in Christmas cheer this festive season! We have scoured the web to bring you a selection of fun and inexpensive decorating ideas for the whole family: 1. Make your own door wreath by bending greenery into a circle and tying together with whatever’s on hand like fishing line, ribbon, or rope. Hang it on your door and decorate with extra ribbons, pinecones, or ornaments for a welcoming burst of Christmas merriment.

2. Dip pinecones in gold or silver paint or use a mixture of water, glue, and glitter for a sparkling effect. Place on side tables or use to fill baskets and bowls. Clear glass vessels—bell jars, deep bowls, hurricane lamps—are also ideal for displaying collections. 3. Stick candles in clean, empty wine bottles for a relaxing display of warm, subtle light. 4. Take clear vases or bottles, fill them with water, and add holidaycoloured food colouring—a few drops will do. Then line the bottles up in a row, or decorate with floating candles for a festive touch. 5. Purchase several blank canvas’ (from Bunnings or an art shop) and spray-paint it a solid Christmas themed colour, then stencil or stamp snowflakes, stars, or any other festive motifs to add some decoration and punch to a bare wall. The kids will love tackling this project. 6. Try baking some cookie ornaments, use ready-made dough—it’s sturdier than homemade. Knead in an extra 2/3 cup flour until smooth to increase dough’s density, making it more suitable for ornaments. Roll dough, cut shapes, make holes for hanging, and then bake per manufacturer’s instructions. These also make great gifts for neighbours and friends. 7. Make paper chains with strips of wrapping paper—simply glue a loop together, and then string another paper strip through and repeat the process. The little ones will have hours of fun! 8. For the more adventurous, try setting up some outdoor lights around the garden. A quick search online will provide endless inspiration. You might find the rest of your street decides to join in too.
