In our first ever issue, we’re bringing you our roundup of a very worthy local event - the 2014 Kuringgai Chase Fun Run and Walk. mcconnell bourn is excited to once again be a major sponsor of this wonderful initiative, which raises funds and support for our Special Olympics athletes. We encourage anyone and everyone to register for the race on Sunday, March 16 and get involved - we certainly will be. Running for a cause at the Kuringgai Chase Sport, community spirit, and the opportunity to raise money for a fantastic cause - mcconnell bourn is thrilled to once again be a major sponsor of the Kuringgai Chase Fun Run and Walk in 2014.

B

y participating in the Kuringgai Chase, the community along the Upper North Shore gets to join together and show their support for Special Olympics athletes, all while having a great time and enjoying the scenic track through the leafy streets of Wahroonga.

Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities can register for either race on Sunday, March 16. Why not get fit, enjoy the fresh air and make a few new friends - all in the service of a great cause? The starting line is located at Wahroonga’s Claude Cameron Grove. The Kuringgai Chase begins bright and early at 9am, with the Barry Easy Walk kicking off soon after at 9:10am - runners at the front, walkers at the rear. Registration is $40 for adults, and $25 for Special Olympics athletes and under-18s. Those who register before March 7 can have their racing bibs delivered to their specified address, while others will be able to collect them at the starting line on the morning of the race.

The Kuringgai Chase returns for the second time this year, and in 2014 a new event, the Barry Easy Walk, has been added to the schedule. Both races are run by Special Olympics Upper North Shore, an organisation the provides support and assistance to over 600 intellectually disabled children and adults each year. Depending on fitness levels and motivation, participants can choose which event suits them. The Kuringgai Chase itself is a nine kilometre run taking in two laps of the 4.5 kilometre race track, while the Barry Easy Walk involves a single lap that participants can choose to either walk or run.

After the race has been run, participants and their supporters can enjoy the Come’N’Try Community Carnival and Picnic as a reward for their efforts. The Carnival begins 9:30am, also at Claude Cameron Grove.

The Kuringgai Chase raised an impressive $30,000 in 2013, and as a business with deep roots in the local area, mcconnell bourn are excited support the local community through this very worthy initiative.This year, mcconnell bourn director Matthew Bourn is also a member of the Kurringai Chase organising committee.
