“You know, it’s not the world that was my oppressor, because what the world does to you, if the world does it to you long enough and effectively enough, you begin to do to yourself.” James Baldwin remedymag.com REMEDY 5

Editorial Insight Welcome to the premiere issue of REMEDY Magazine.

REMEDY is a mission and purpose entrusted to me by that which is Divine and I am honored. Inside the digital pages of REMEDY you will find life and health solutions for anything from the common cold to world peace. It is my aim to introduce the world to those Sheroes and Heroes that go unnoticed. While, they are busy working in their communities and in the world making change. As we enter into a new season i want each of us to plant seeds both physically and mentally. When was the last time you played in dirt? Remember as a child when you would put your hands in dirt and make mud pies? In this day and time, technology has taken away the fun and enjoyment of natural life. We now sit for long hours on our rumps behind computer screens and/or sit playing video games or watching televion, and instead of touching nature we touch screens on our smartphones and tablets. This season I compel you to plant some seeds in soil. When you are planting the seeds hold an intention as to what you want to see grow in your life and that plant or flower will be the representation. You can plant the seeds as a garden, tree or plant; the choice is yours. You will then have the responsibility of tending your garden or plant. Water it, talk to it and take care of it. The same way you should work towards that intention by doing what needs to be done to see it manifest in the physical. Whatever you desire to manifest remember you have the power to make it happen. It is up to you. The remedy for all that you will to recieve or be, is within you. Be Love Beloveds

SELF LOVE BY TK EL

There is a famous phrase that says “Learning to love oneself is the greatest love of all”. While this may be true, loving oneself is not as easy as it may sound. Especially, living in this day and time; in a world where you are compared and judged. However, loving yourself is doable and something you should not take lightly. The reality is you have you for this lifetime, so you might as well love the packaging and the gift inside of the package. You have the ability to change those character flaws that you may want to improve upon, but remember there is balance in everything; so too much positive is just as imbalanced as too much negative. Each issue we will offer a Self-Love tip in this section. Send us an email at selflove@ remedymag.com and share your uniqueness with me and your fellow REMEDY Magazine readers. Let’s spread love to spark self-love.

Tip Accept yourself for who you are physically, and know that you are more than what you see in the mirror. No two people are exactly alike, even identical twins have differences. Find your differences and view them as your uniqueness; they are what separate you from the rest. Self-love is something we are each working on individually; including myself. Okay, here we go let me share my uniqueness; I was born with grey hair, so I was a child walking around with salt and pepper hair. Though I was never teased about it, I felt uncomfortable about it when I got in my teens. However, I learned to accept my difference and now I love my salt and pepper mane. Stand naked in front of a full length mirror; look at your body, front and back. Notice every blemish, flaw, stretchmark and sag. See your uniqueness. Dance in front of the mirror and smile at the beauty you are.

Seasonal Allergy Relief

BY TK EL As we welcome the changing of the seasons from winter to spring or from summer to autumn; depending on which side of the equator you reside. It is that time of year when the pollen starts flying in the atmosphere which may cause seasonal allergies for some people.

What Causes Seasonal Allergies? During spring, summer and autumn pollen grains are released from weeds, grasses and trees. The tiny pollen grains are travelling to pollenate flowers and sometimes they may travel into the nose, throat and eyes; when this happens an allergic reaction may be triggered. Seasonal allergic rhinitis is commonly called “hay fever. Seasonal allergies are not as easy to avoid as are other typical allergies; such as food and animals. However, it is advised that during the peak allergy seasons to stay indoors, keep windows closed. 8 REMEDY remedymag.com

According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases a department of the National Institute of Health; an allergic reaction is the body’s immune system reacting to a harmful substance.

Symptoms of pollen allergies include: • • • • • •

Runny nose Itchy eyes Sneezing Sinus congestion Watery eyes Red eyes

While there are several over the counter and prescription medications which can be taken to treat allergies. There are various natural remedies that may be used to treat and possibly prevent an allergic reaction to pollen.

Start Early Reality is a strong immune system is the best weapon of defense against allergies. Whether your immune system is strong or weak one can prepare early for the upcoming pollen season. Bee pollen and honey - Preferably ingesting the bee pollen and honey provided by local bees in your region. This allows the pollen to enter your system which will allow the bodies system to become familiar with the substance; therefore not causing a reaction. Besides that both bee pollen and honey are excellent sources to boost immune health. Stinging nettle – Studies have suggested that nettle capsules helped reduce sneezing and itching in people suffering with hay fever. According to the University of Maryland this is due to the nettles ability to reduce the amount of histamine the body produces when triggered by an allergen. Some doctors suggest taking a freeze dried stinging nettle formula before hay fever season begins. The seasons will be changing soon, this is the perfect time to begin preparing for the upcoming hay fever season. Enjoy the new season. remedymag.com REMEDY 9

THAT LOOKS LIKE WHAT!!!? By YAHIMBA UHURU

My granddaughter Kayla and I were shopping in Whole Foods one day when she started asking me what certain vegetables were good for. She was so fascinated by my answers that I felt I should share that information with the Westside Weekly readers! I told her that if she took a really good look at the fruit or vegetable, she could figure out on her own what that particular fruit or vegetable was good for. A sliced carrot looks like the human eye, and carrots greatly enhance blood flow to the eyes. A tomato has 4 chambers and is red in color, just like the human heart. Tomatoes are loaded with lycopine and is a true heart and blood food. Grapes resembles the alveoli (the air sacs) of the lungs. A diet high in fresh grapes reduces the risk of lung cancer and emphysema. Kidney beans look just like kidneys and they help to maintain kidney function. If you have healthy kidneys, the beans will contribute to your kidney health, but if your kidneys are diseased, limit your intake of kidney beans.

10 REMEDY remedymag.com

Figs resemble male testicles and the fruit hangs in pairs. Figs increase sperm count and help men to overcome sterility. A walnut looks like the brain, and walnuts enhance the signaling and and encourages new messages link between the brain cells as they also ward off dementia. Mushrooms sliced in half look like the shape of the human ear and they improve hearing abilities. Ginger resembles the stomach and it aids in digestion.

“Let Your Food Be Your Medicine, And Your Medicine Be Your Food”

Imhotep

Avocado and Pears look like the womb and are good for the health and functioning of the womb and cervix of the female. When a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances the birth hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight, and can even prevent cervical cancer. It takes 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripen fruit, just like a human baby! Sweet Potatoes resemble the pancreas and they help to balance the glycemic index of diabetics. Grapefruits, Oranges, and other citrus fruits look like the mammary glands of females and help with the health of the breast and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts. Onions look like the body’s cells, and onions clear waste materials from all of the body cells.

Olives resemble the ovaries, and women whose diets include pure extra virgin olive oil had a 30% lower risk of ovarian cancer. Celery looks like bone structures and when you pull the ‘threads’ of them, they look like nerves. Last but not least, Ginseng Root. The root resembles the human body, and ginseng is nearly a cure for all human ailments.

So there you have it, another good reason to eat your fruits and vegetables. This all proves that God is good and has designed a fruit, vegetable and herb for anything that ails man. And oh by the way, Broccoli close up, when observing the tiny green tips on the broccoli head, looks like hundreds of cancer cells. Need I say more? Take care of yourselves and remember, our food is our medicine. Peace, Yahimba

dedicated to improving the education, family life, and community cooperation for disenfranchised and high risk inner city youth. Alpha Male Nation, Inc. provides our youth with supportive programs that extend the reach of public schools and assist in breaking the current barriers to personal and community growth. We also serve as advocates for orphans, women, and the poor. Within these populations we target at-risk inner city youth in the Kansas City, MO. urban core. Our vision is to develop self-sustaining, spiritually conscious and morally guided leaders to combat the erosion of education, economic dignity, and an overall healthy community life. Our mission is to promote a society of cooperation by a civilized, productive, and progressive group of leaders through early childhood development, and health and wellness programs. TK: How did you come up with the concept of starting your organization? WOOTEN: The organization started with Keith McAlester, Maurice Birdwell and myself. We came up with the concept of acknowledging the needs from our personal situation, struggles, and becoming more conscious. For years we watched and experienced the street life from the penal system, family issues, and economic struggle. We began observing the elders in leadership positions that had access to many essential resources to help solve a lot of the inner city problems. Later, we noticed that the problems were going to remain the same if we didn’t do anything about it. TK: What is the age range of the youth in the program? WOOTEN: Ages 5 to 21 TK: Do you expect to expand the organization? WOOTEN: Yes, we expect to expand our organization because education and development are very much needed across the world. TK: What are the specific services A.M.N offers? WOOTEN: We offer a hands on education, internship approach, we let the children sit in and watch us hold real meetings. Then we simplify Roberts rules of order, and let them demonstrate it. We let them sell products to get them ready for business, learning how to market, identifying their target audience, etc. We make sure we use all learning styles from DVD, music CD, and hands on to make sure the children are successful. remedymag.com REMEDY 13

TK: REMEDY Magazine believes that the people are the remedy to solve the issues of the world which are imbalanced. What remedy do you have to share with the world to assist in improving the lives of our youth? WOOTEN: The remedy for improving the lives of our children is to teach them who they are. Positive information about what their history is and let them be involved in activities that creatively have learning lessons. Also, use music when teaching them, children have great memories and can remember anything that has a rhythm. Always acknowledge the improvement and let them know how proud you are of them. Ask the children questions about what they like and dislike, they are very talented and know what they want. We as the teachers know what they need so mix their wants with what they need to motivate them. Keep a record of all their work to see how much they have grown. Make sure they have mentors that are experts in the field the children desire. Most importantly teach them the six sciences, spiritual science, economic science, political science, agricultural science, military science, and astrology science. TK: If a parent is interested, how can they place their child in the program? WOOTEN: Visit our website http://alpha-male-nation.homestead.com/

Nashon Walker

...but God!

When you think of the word HOPE, you have to think

Nashon Walker. Nashon’s life story of unprecedented transformation has impacted millions around the globe and is nothing short of amazing!

The first thing that strikes you when you meet Nashon Walker is his persona that exudes confidence stemming from his bona fide passion to inspire change. Nashon offers a unique yet practical perspective on how to overcome life challenges in order to achieve your dreams. A natural born encourager, Nashon is living proof that we are born to win and his enthusiasm is contagious! Whether he is speaking at a school, in another country, in a board meeting, or making music in the recording studio, it is clear that there is something very different about this man. When he shares his story, it is obvious what an unlikely candidate he is. Exposed to a world that most can never even imagine, Nashon experienced pretty much every negative effect from growing up in the hardcore inner-city neighborhoods of Philadelphia. For all intents and purposes, he was a statistic; counted among those who would never become anything and never make it.

“My dream in life is to help others fulfill theirs.” –Nashon

At age 19 Nashon faced the hardest season of his life when he was incarcerated on fel-

ony charges that carried a maximum mandatory sentence of 85 years. One would think the amount of potential jail time was his primary concern, but it was his biological father, who at the time was his co-defendant, that was the center of his focus. Faced with illiteracy and with little outside support, Nashon’s odds of overcoming this tragedy were pretty much impossible. It was at this moment in life that change and Nashon's faith in God became a reality and after serving just an 18 month sentence Nashon was released from prison. 16 REMEDY remedymag.com

From that point Nashon set out to be somebody of significance who could bring change

to people’s lives regardless of his past or present situation. Nashon went on to achieve amazing things. He didn’t just beat the odds, he surpassed them. Not only did he graduate from college with two degrees, but he was accepted to one of the most prestigious international college business institutes in America. Students from Azusa Pacific, Cambridge University, University, Oxford University, University of Chicago and Wheaten College also participated in the business institute.

While a part of the program, Nashon traveled to over 12 different countries studying global economics, finance and management. In addition, he performed corporate analyses for companies such as Nokia, Nestle, Mercedes-Benz, Swiss Bank, John Deere, Electrolux andmany others during his time with the business institute.

Following his college graduation, Nashon entered the

corporate world. He became the youngest executive to reach the highest sales consulting position with the largest privately-held telecommunications company in the in the country. After a very successful corporate executive career in telecommunications, Nashon started his own company TMA Creative Learning Group, which provides a platform to facilitate Nashon’s passion for personal development and media production.

In addition, Nashon is fulfilling a life-long

dream and has become a college instructor teaching courses including Marketing, Business Operations, Entrepreneurship, and Management Information System. Among other things, one full year after Nashon’s release from prison he returned to Philadelphia and rescued his mother from a 28 year drug addiction. Today, his mother completed a women’s recovery program, has been clean for over 10 years, graduated from college with honors, and now works as one of the lead counselors for the same women’s recovery program that she completed. Many women have been impacted, changed and set free as a result of Nashon’s mother’s wisdom and personal testimony of transformation.

Today, Nashon has a new objective in his sights; to impart the same transformation

techniques that he applied in his own life to achieve unprecedented success in the lives of this generation so that their inner greatness can also be unleashed. remedymag.com REMEDY 17

EMBRACING YOUR DIFFERENCE BY NASHON L. WALKER

Embracing Your Difference is from my newest book titled: Shining in your Difference

“You can never be the difference without first accepting your own. Don’t fit in, but be a stand out! Learn how to shine in your difference.” –Nashon Walker No More Fear

Don’t be afraid to embrace your difference. You must always remember that your genius is located in your difference and it’s your genius that will bring you the highest level of success in life. There is something that you have been gifted to do and that gift is your genius. For some reason people have been conditioned to pursue what’s common and forsake that which is different. Whatever the style of clothing is or the style of doing business, we immediately jump on the bandwagon and try to make what belongs to someone else our own. Please don’t misunderstand me. I am not saying that wearing a popular style of clothing or duplicating a certain business style is bad. What I am pointing out is our intense desire to fit in with the crowd as opposed to being creative and brave enough to do something different and stand out.

What’s At Stake

If you forsake the difference inside of you, you will never reach your full potential. You don’t want to be like so many people who die still filled with gifts and talents that were never used. You want to be the person that gives life everything you have, so when you die there’s nothing left. The world is awaiting your difference. The world needs your difference. Imagine if Bill Gates wasn’t brave enough to release his genius and start Microsoft. Imagine if Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, Inc., had not reached within himself and made a decision to shine in his difference. The world would not be a better place and they would have remained average. People live below average when they fail to discover the genius that lives on the inside of them. People remain average when they fail to maximize the genius that lives on the inside of them. Yet, people become great when they discover and maximize the genius on the inside of them. The world is awaiting the solutions that your difference will bring. Some time ago I come to this conclusion: I have a responsibility and obligation to give to my generation every gift and every talent that I have in order to empower and inspire them to reach for something so great, so magnificent, and so beyond themselves, in hopes that they will achieve the impossible and change the world in which they live. Embrace your difference today and begin the journey of becoming the best you that you can be. Give the world everything that you have inside of you so when you die there’s nothing left. AMUN TIZBET NEGUS BY TK EL

“RASTA NO CRUFF TK: Musically, who is your inspiration? AMUN: Musically my inspiration come from a variety of resources. I grew up listening to The Wailers, Jacob Miller, Big Youth, U Roy, Brigadier Jerry, and Original Roots Music. In the later years I took an interest in Warrior King, Sizzla, Capleton, Buju Banton, Anthony B, Bounty Killer, Baby Cham, they had a style of flowing which I admired. TK: How long have you been a musician? AMUN: I have been a musician from a teenager, a group of friends and I formed a singing group called Suns of God, I was also in my youth choir at Peniel Tabernacle Apostolic Church. I have always loved to sing. I can say I have been singing over a decade. TK: I see you write and produce your own tracks. How many years have you been writing and producing? AMUN: As I have said before I have been in the music industry from a teen, at that time I would just do sing overs, at that time popular Christian or Gospel music however I have been making music as in writing my own lyrics producing my own beats and producing for 6 years now .

22 REMEDY remedymag.com

TK: “Voice of the Street” is my favorite track by you. Which of your tunes is your favorite? Why? AMUN: My favorite track is “Did you Hear”. The reason being most people don’t listen, people in general don’t like the silence or they don’t want to be silent and in order to learn one has to listen .In the song I say “ Marcus say let’s unite and take our share, depending on ourselves that’s how we are gonna rise up this year “ I have studied the laws of nature and one thing I have learned is that we have to be dependent on no one but ourselves;, self- reliance ,and this song is promoting each individual to play their part ,it’s not about one man doing everything ,it’s what each man can do for the self . TK: Any plans for an album in the near future? AMUN: Yes, in fact I’m working on one presently called ‘Rasta Is No Cruff’. This album is dedicated to Rastaman and Rastawoman who over the years have been the keepers of the truth in every community all over Jamaica and have always been looked down on as being a “cruff” because many of them decide to be totally independent of the help and handouts from the government and the fact that they embrace the natural beauty and see a unity between themselves and nature, in this modern society that is not something that’s embraced I am here to declare that these people have knowledge, great information that if taken seriously can be used and will contribute a balance to the system which is a little one sided and will benefit the welfare of humanity on this planet . TK: What is your REMEDY for the world? AMUN: To change the world we must change ourselves, to change ourselves we must change our idea’s .Our predominant thoughts are shaping our environment. Literally we are creating our destiny as we live each day .The world is not an actual thing but the collective ideas of everyone; we are the world .The thing we have to do however is educate and when I say educate I am not speaking of the one which only prepares you to pay bills and eat food but one in which will give students a clear mind and an elevated spirit. What I am speaking about here is the acknowledgement of what is called intrinsic nature .Man is composed of mind body and soul; and will not live by bread alone. We have to watch our thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become action. Watch your action; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. When each individual realizes the great responsibility that has been placed in our hands, that our future is not based on circumstances, conditions and events; our harvest is always based on the kind of seed we choose to sow. So if we desire world peace we must think and see the world as a whole, we must look at each other and be able to see our reflection and know without a shadow of a doubt that we are one.
