FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DESIGN THE FUTURE DC Design and the Stanford University d.school Join Forces

During this collaboration between DC Design and the Stanford Institute of Design, high school students will design and manufacture solutions to problems faced by those with physical disabilities. Working on challenges that result from paraplegia, quadriplegia, blindness and other physical disabilities, students are empowered to apply the design thinking process to create unique solutions to often-unaddressed problems. Our aim is to go beyond telling students they can change the world by actually showing the steps needed to do so. This one-week intensive program works with rising 10th-12th graders in the Bay Area and will be held from June 20th – June 26th at Stanford’s Institute of Design (aka the d.school) and Radicand Labs. Students will be using Stanford’s facilities from 9am - 6pm daily and will receive over 63 hours of mentorship and guidance from Stanford design and engineering students, alumni and faculty. Students will work in groups to create functional and aesthetically pleasing prototypes that address the needs of others. They will present their final designs to the public on Sunday, June 26th from 7-9 pm at the Stanford Institute of Design. If you are a member of the press and would like to know more about this event, please contact Renato Linares with “Design the Future” in the subject line. About DC DESIGN Since 2012 we’ve worked with students and organizations from all over the world to implement the design thinking process including executives from Oracle, Fuji Film, Santander and young refugees from Syria, western Sahara, Palestine, and Tibet.
