Design and Technology WJECWhy
study Design and Technology?

This course gives students the opportunity to innovate, problem-solve and learn the knowledge needed to enter the commercial world of Product Design, Architecture and Engineering among others. It is the subject that fuses together creativity with science and it develops yourability to manage and prioritise multiple and often conflicting factors. Project management is a key aspect of the commercial world and ofthis course. Students will study modules in Design and Innovation, Materials andComponents, Public Interaction – Marketing Research, Processes, Human Responsibility, Industrial and Commercial Practice, Product Analysis and Systems as well as explore designing and making principles.
All put together, this A Level gives an excellent grounding to the technological world of today and preparesyou to influence the technological world of tomorrow.

This subject can be studied alongside a number of A Level subjects, particularly Mathematics, Physics, Art, Computing, Biology and Business Studies. However, Design is in every aspect of our lives and so no A Level combination is the wrong combination.
Entry Requirements

Students should ideally have achieved a level 5 or higher GCSE grade in Design and Technology or equivalent. However, we do positively consider students who might not have done the GCSE, but who demonstrates a passion for the subject and has a combination of other related subjects such as ComputerScience, Engineering, Art, Physics and Mathematics.

An enthusiasm for the subject and the ability to work in a self-motivated and independent way is essential.
What is Involved?
