Russia’s geopolitical ambitions dashed by EU-Ukraine association Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, signed on Friday, the European Association Agreement, an event with a hard impact over Russia.

Moscow reacted harshly towards the signing of this agreement. Grigory Karasin, a Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, said the economic association agreement signed by the three countries and the European Union will have “serious consequences”. “Definitely, the signing of such significant document is a sovereign right of every state. There is no doubt that the signing of association agreements with the EU by Ukraine and Moldova will have major consequences, but we should rather not make commonplace remarks but assess the implications in order to avoid various kinds of misunderstandings and suspicions in the future,” said Karasin. Kremlin stressed that Russia will adopt measures to defend the economy as soon as signs of negative consequences will be noticed. “It’s possible that we have to take a series of measures to protect our economy,” said Dmitri Peskov, the spokesman of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The European Union Association Agreement dashed Vladimir Putin’s hopes of seeing Ukraine as a part of the Eurasian Union, created with other former Soviet republics, Belarus and Kazakhstan, in order to strengthen Moscow’s influence in the region.Moscow is a very important trading partner, especially in heavy industries (metallurgy, chemistry, aeronautics and defence) from Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine. Moscow’s strategy is to “discredit Ukraine as a partner for the West,” by imposing the construction of South Stream pipeline, which bypasses Ukraine through the Black Sea, explains Maria Lipman, the expert of the Carnegie Moscow Center’s Society and Regions Program. This project was blocked by the European Commission in June. Get all the Latest World news From Ifreepress. We are who uploaded first and we are updates that are actual reality.
