Technology News Google Robot cars are probably the future of cars on the road, but we have to see just how safe they are. Self-driving Google cars are popular these days, and people are really looking forward to some positive results. But will you hand your life over to a robot car? It is true that Google has performed a few experiments with its self-driving cars. The cars have done nearly 700,000 miles on California roads. During the experiment, a minor accident occurred, and that too while a human was driving the car. Considering this result, the cars should be on the road straight away as they seem to be quite safe right? Wrong! We don’t have any idea about what was omitted from the final reports. It is quite easy to suggest that Google was experimenting and might have seen a few bugs and errors which they do not want other people to know.
According to a few reports from different internet websites, Google actually went out of their way to request California regulators to ignore minor accidents. In other words, they want to keep minor accidents a secret, especially those in which the car was not being self-driven. Google wants the regulators to keep human accidents a secret as the experiment does not apply to human drivers. This means that Google is not responsible if humans crash their self-driven cars. Does that mean that we should trust in the cars straight away, and that crashing them will be our fault entirely? The answer is actually no, as there is something called ‘disengagements’ in these robot cars. It means that the cars will hand over the controls to you whenever they feel like. Well technically, robots can’t feel, but the idea is that the cars are not aware of everything on the road just as yet. So if they don’t know a particular road or cannot adapt to traffic, they will just disengage and hand the driving over to you. See all the latest technology related news on iFreePress.
