Table Of Contents
Dear Friends, The dawn of a new year fills me with hopeful anticipation. This time of year, we pause, reflect, and move forward with a fresh start and a renewed commitment to make the year better than the last. We ask ourselves, “What is missing from my life? What habits do I want to shed and which ones do I want to adopt?” Then we set goals and strive to reach them. A recent national survey polled individuals for their top ten resolutions. Check out the results; they are pretty revealing. 1 Spend more time with family and friends 2. Fit in fitness 3. Tame the bulge 4. Quit smoking 5. Enjoy life more 6. Quit drinking 7. Get out of debt 8. Learn something new 9. Help others 10. Get organized Notice what is missing. “Make a bucket of money,” or “buy more stuff” and “chase after that promotion.” Instead, I see sincere, thoughtful, heartfelt desires, many requiring a lot of courage, persistence, and determination to break out of some deeply entrenched habits. As I read the list, I found myself saying repeatedly, “The Y could help a person meet that resolution’s goal!” The Y is a non-profit organization in service to others. Our talented staff is passionate in their quest to help people of all ages lead healthier, more fulfilling lives through our programs and our focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Y and its family of members create something special, an encouraging and accepting community where everyone fits in. And yes, the Y is a place where resolutions are realized. “The Y is the epicenter of community,” said Y member Jennifer Green. When she moved to the area in 1999, she said her first stop was the Y.

“We knew that’s where you go to feel supported and welcome.” As you thumb through the pages of the program guide, think about where you would like to be a year from now. Then pick the classes and programs that will help you get there. We will help you every step of the way. Here’s to 2013 and especially, here’s to you!

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Giving back and providing support to our neighbors VOLUNTEERISM & GIVING
SOCIAL SERVICES
Voluntary contributions fund, lead, and support our critical work. Each of our volunteers helps to move people and communities forward, delivering the benefits of good health, strong connections, greater self-confidence and a sense of security. We believe that real change comes about when we work together. That’s why we work to influence public policy around a range of social issues, such as child welfare and public health. If you’d like to take an active role in bringing about meaningful, enduring change in your own neighborhood, please contact Gary Vassar at gvassar@gbymca.org or 802-862-8993 X 132.
LET’S BUILD SOMETHING GOOD TOGETHER

Thanks to the generosity of our members and donors to our annual fundraising campaign, the Y is able to offer all of our camping, childcare, aquatics, family and fitness programs and services at reduced prices, scholarships, and subsidies based on substantiated need and available Y funds. If you are interested in financial assistance, speak with our Member Services staff or other professional staff. You can also download an application from gbymca.org. We will be happy to help you through this process.
At the Y, we value the partnerships we forge with local businesses— partnerships that support our commitment to nurture the potential of kids, promote healthy living and foster a sense of social responsibility.
