Independence Day 2012:
The American Spirit P
lease join my family and I for Chanhassen’s 29th Annual 4th of July Celebration! This event has grown over the years and is known as one of the best events in the area. Residents, local businesses, and visitors will participate across town throughout the week as we celebrate our country’s independence. This event has become a tradition for many families, including mine, as each year we look forward to reconnecting with neighbors and meeting new friends. Over the years Chanhassen has been recognized by several national publications as one of the best places to live and raise a family. This year the Minnesota Business Journal recognized Chanhassen as having the highest quality of life in the state! It’s events like the annual 4th of July Celebration that contribute to that ranking. Chanhassen is fortunate to have residents and businesses who actively participate in and promote the numerous community events throughout the year. As you prepare your holiday plans, be sure to use this brochure as a guide for the week. It is full of valuable information including an events schedule, maps of your favorite activities, what types of food you can find at the Taste of Chanhassen, and a couple of feature stories. Also please support the businesses and organizations that are so gracious to sponsor the many community events.

Join me in recognizing the many men and women who have served in the military around the world. The 4th of July is a perfect time to express your gratitude to the individuals who sacrifice so much to protect our freedom and liberties. I encourage everyone to visit Chanhassen’s Veterans Monument in City Center Park Plaza during the festivities to honor and remember our veterans and their families for their service. Also, please learn more about and consider getting involved in Chanhassen's own Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program, which is dedicated to supporting the needs of local service members and their families. In conclusion, I would like to once again thank all of the volunteers, businesses, organizations, and county and city employees who make this great event possible. I am grateful for their hard work and dedication to make this event such a wonderful time for families and friends. I hope everyone has a fun and safe 4th of July holiday, and I look forward to celebrating with you! Tom Furlong Mayor of Chanhassen

Connecting the Community We Serve
Proud Community Partners
As President of the Rotary Club of Chanhassen, I wish to welcome you to this year’s 4th of July Celebration. I am happy that the Rotary Club can once again be a partner in this wonderful event. We feel honored to participate and would like to thank all who plan and produce this amazing event for the community. In addition to the parade, the Chanhassen Rotary Club hosts the Taste of Chanhassen and the Classic Car show. Each year, Rotarians dedicate time, and work with city staff, sponsors, and volunteers to ensure Chanhassen's 4th of July Celebration is the City's signature community event. Rotarians exemplify their motto of "Service Above Self" by supporting this event, while having a lot of fun at the same time. The enthusiasm this event creates spurs us on to help make it bigger and better every year. I think back to those who pledged their lives, fortunes and sacred honor in 1776, and pause to remember what we are celebrating. So take a moment during the festivities and remember to thank someone that sacrificed so you can enjoy this holiday, and above all have fun. See you there…. Happy 4th of July!
F
or more than 20 years, the Chamber of Commerce has had the privilege to kick off the 4th of July celebration in Chanhassen by hosting the Business Expo on July 3. This event is a great way for area businesses to showcase their goods and services for the Chanhassen community. We are excited and proud to continue the strong tradition of the July 3rd Business Expo, bringing more than 40 of Chanhassen area businesses to the park to meet and thank the residents of Chanhassen that help support their businesses. The Business Expo event is family friendly, fun and free! Thanks to the City of Chanhassen staff, the Chanhassen Rotary and the many sponsors and supporters that make this event a reality each year and work so hard for the enjoyment of all! As a business advocate representing more than 450 businesses in eastern Carver County the SouthWest Metro Chamber serves to strengthen our member businesses and stimulate regional prosperity. Mark Crichton The annual Fourth of July car show is always dazzling. Vintage collector cars, waxed and buffed to high sheen, draw oohs and aahs. As long as you mind your Ps and Qs, proud owners are happy to let you look as much as you want. Some people collect because the cars remind them of their younger, hot rod days. Others collect the cars they once only dreamed about owning. And others love to restore classics to their former glory. And then there’s Mark Crichton of Eden Prairie. This car is more than a car. He sat in his black 1956 Thunderbird, appreciative of the comments and compliments. He got teary when he explained that the T-bird used to belong to his dad. “I got it in 2003, when he died,” Crichton said. “He loved this car, just loved it.”
