Where do you live? I live in Amiens, in the north of France. What is life like living there? Amiens is a quiet and small city at one hour by train at the North of Paris. It’s not a big city but it’s not a village too, you can hang out alone you’ll always meet somebody you know in the street, you don’t need car or underground, you can walk across the city quite quickly. All around the city it’s the countryside, I mean, the real countryside. And if you have a car, Amiens is a good localisation, at four or less hours you can go to London, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Luxemburg, the beach, the cliffs so we haven’t the time to get bored. Actually, the life here is peacefully Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? Unfortuneately, I’m not sure that there is a process in my work. I just shoot what I want to shoot, what catches my eye. The camera is an extension of my eye, so I press the button when I want to freeze a moment of my life. What 3 words would you use to describe your work? Travel Adventure Friendship Do you have any upcoming projects planned? The project of my life is to traveling everywhere. No matter where, no matter how. Just discovering the world and

catch wonderful moments. What do you do for fun? Taking pictures, Traveling, playing music, see friends. If money was not an object where in the world would you like to travel to? Wow. There is a lot of places where I want to go, like Mongolia, Iceland, USA, Mexico, Namibia, Iran, Australia, but the country where I really want to go is Argentina. Unfortunately there is just one work for crush those dreams, money. Where can we find you? (blogs, Vimeo, youtube, facebook, Twitter etc) You can find me on facebook (www. facebook.com/aurelien.buttin. photographer), on Twitter (https://twitter. com/AurelienButtin) or on Flickr (www. flickr.com/aurelien-buttin). In the next 12 months, what are your plans and where would you like to be? This year I don’t really have any plans, it’s quite complicated. But for sure I’ll go to Milan, Brussels, and maybe South Africa. But my plan will always be taking photos. Anything else? I want to say thank you to all people who follow me for giving me hope and recognition. Everybody can feel free to contact me for a shooting, a plan, giving or have an advice. Photography is my life and you are the photography.

Where do you live? I live in Copenhagen -the capital of Denmark. What is life like living there? It’s very very nice. I love traveling, but Copenhagen always feels like home. There are lots of small coffee shops and a very chill atmosphere. The city is small, but the various boroughs are very different. It’s cozy, and in summer I can think of no other place I’d rather be. Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? Most of what I do has this day-to-day diary kind of feel to it. And I like that. I think people can recognize themselves in the photos and the various situations, which are always very homely and nonspacy. It’s not too contemporary. There is not much thought behind it. You just have to have a camera with you at all times to make sure you can capture those special moments of life. What 3 words would you use to describe your work? Warm, grainy and young. Do you have any upcoming projects planned? I’ve never really done a project. I’ve never really sat down and said, “Okay. I’ll call this series Into The Beyond. It will be girls in next to nothing close in the forest! It will be genius!” or something like that. That’s when it gets a little too

18

Visions.

contemporary for me as I mentioned earlier. But I’d love to sit down and think of something that I’d like to make into a bigger project. Something with real people I think – nothing way too artsy. What do you do for fun? What to choose from… I guess being with friends; barbequing outside in the summer, drinking and listening to music is always a great way to have fun. That never fails. But generally I would say I just surround myself with positive people. If money was not an object where in the world would you like to travel to? Everywhere! Except perhaps from a few choice places. Right now I’m very interested in South America. I really want to go to New Orleans and that whole area. Listen to the music and drink whiskey in dirty bars. That idea has been stuck in my head for a while now. Where can we find you? (blogs, Vimeo, youtube, facebook, Twitter etc) You can find me on my website: http://www.beechphotography.net/ And my flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/swiiffer/ And some other places! But those two are regularly updated. In the next 12 months, what are your plans and where would you like to be? I’ll finish my master at university soon. After that I have zero idea. If I could choose anything in the world I would

Where do you live? I live in Italy, more precisely, but without being too specific, on an island What is life like living there? For me, since I love big cities, skyscrapers, the sky, the traffic, car horns, people running, living here is sad. Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? It’s not something that happens always in the same way. Sometimes i know exactly what I want to represent and I’ll search for the suitable objects and the clothes. Sometime I’ll obtain something different from what I thought, but with the same feeling and emotion. Some other times instead the sunlight would be enough to inspire me and the pictures just come out spontaneously. Like some time ago, when I was crying, I just placed the camera on the tripod (and let it take pictures) without thinking about it. What 3 words would you use to describe your work? Monothematic and misunderstood, often because people tend to see only what they see and because in my picture there’s often a girl, made of skin and bones and shapes and postures and that’s the only thing that we see, the beauty of her body. The moment when I jump into place, the scene I devise, the feeling that I put into it, these are things that people hardly grasp and to say to the others: graceful

Where do you live? I live in Venice, California.

made is insane. So that will probably take up a lot of my time for the next year.

What is life like living there? I love LA. I really do. It gets a lot of shit. But mostly people who deliver that shit have never spent more than 5 consecutive days here. It’s a terrible place to visit, but its an amazing place to live.

What do you do for fun? I take photos. I travel. I surf. I watch The Wire. I eat.

Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? My process is all over the place. With my filmmaking projects I tend to be more calculated, more exhaustive in preparing everything, in doing my homework, etc etc. I guess that’s because directing is my “career” while photography has been more purely artistic up to this point. With photography it’s more impulsive and instinctual. I have an image in mind, a concept loosely defined in a few words. And then I go out an play. My biggest thing is that I try and create stories with my photos. I treat it like I do directing motion picture and I treat my models like I do actors. There’s a no posing rule on my sets. :) Do you have any upcoming projects planned? I’m really still in the middle of finishing the Untitled Underwear Project so I suppose that is technically upcoming. I’m also prepping a feature film that is a follow up to my most recent short film “La Carnada.” Trying to get a feature film

54

If money was not an object where in the world would you like to travel to? Oh man. Where do I start. Well photography wise: Morocco, Tokyo, India. Life wise, I’d love to back to Indonesia for a long long time. Where can we find you? (blogs, Vimeo, youtube, facebook, Twitter etc) I post a lot on Instagram. @Joshsoskin. And my website has my filmmaking stuff and photos available for sale: www. joshsoskin.com. I’m also on Tumblr: http://joshsoskin.tumblr.com/ In the next 12 months, what are your plans and where would you like to be? I just want to be making my feature film. If anybody out there can help me do that I’ll love you long time.

Where do you live? I recently moved to Encinitas, CA to a small surf community called Cardiff by the Sea. What is life like living there? Incredible, one of the best decisions of my life! I get to surf almost every day, am surrounded by nature and good people. Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Inspired by: classic rock, childhood camping, Pokesnap. I’ve spent the majority of my adult life moving back and forth between the tropical waters of Hawaii and the familiar waves of my home on the coast of Southern California. The ocean has drawn me to a mind of adventure and a life of constant travel. Between visiting friends in Europe and Australia and last minute surf trips to Indonesia, Peru etc. I am constantly pinching myself because I am living my dream, which I’m extremely grateful for. Do you have any upcoming projects planned? I’ve been shooting a lot of super 8 in the past few months and am beginning to make some short films. What do you do for fun? Adventures and misadventures in and around the ocean, desert and mountains. Favorite Drink? Coffee...mmm

Where do you live? I live in a small town just outside of Istanbul. What is life like living there? It’s more like a getaway from everything and everyone. Very quiet. Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? Though I plan everything beforehand even the gestures of the model, when I’m shooting it’s all coming like an instinct. I like being able to connect with the model so we have a little chat before the shooting so that I can study her face more. Usually I come up with a theme and work on it. What 3 words would you use to describe your work? Fragile, fragile, fragile. Do you have any upcoming projects planned? I’m experiencing a kind of writer’s block right now but I’ll be back! What do you do for fun? Simple. I go out and drink with friends. Favorite Drink? Water! If money was not an object where in the world would you like to travel to? Every single place in America. Where do you live? I live in Brooklyn, New York What is life like living there? Its a good place to be based out of because you are surrounded by so many talented and inspiring people and you are constantly meeting more. It can be intense being in such a fast paced place. I live in Greenpoint and I love it. It feels quiet and its near the water. For me the key to enjoying this city is the excitement around leaving for a shoot. You love new york, you hate new york, you leave new york, and then want to come back. Its got this gravitational pull. Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? My thought process with work... I go with my gut. I need to be curious about something. Have questions that need answers to. Why would anyone go there? Why would someone live like that? What is that person like? Stuff like that. I also obsess over things. Sometimes I have ideas that I need to get out of my head. Like a mad person. Ideas or thoughts that wont go away until I work with them in some capacity and then I never want to think about them again. Shooting something clears up my head and gives room for new obsessions.

92

Visions.

What do you do for fun? When you make a life out of something you love to do that question is surprisingly hard to answer Favorite drink? Coffee If money was not an object where in the world would you like to travel to? South Africa! Dreaming of going there right now... Do you have any upcoming projects planned? I am in post production on a short doc film right now and currently shooting for another book. In the next 12 months, what are your plans and where would you like to be? Make more stuff

Where do you live? Kharkov, Eastern Ukraine. What is life like living there? The best city to live and making art but not for its realization. Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? No wonder people think that all art reflects the artist’s life. In my work I love the expression, where fantasy meets the reality. I also attracted innocent child faces of young women and men. Do you have any upcoming projects planned? Yeah, the pilot project called “Postpostpost” in which I am working on and plan to be completed by summer 2014. What do you do for fun? Dancing, singing and dreaming. Favorite Drink? Tomato juice. If money was not an object where in the world would you like to travel to? To all Ukrainian, European, American and Asian cities and where I’ll be happy.

Where do you live? Metro Detroit in suburbia about fifteen minutes outside of downtown. What is life like living there? Different from most places I’ve lived. Here you either fit in or you don’t. Other than that it’s beautiful, enough city and nature to satisfy any enthusiast and four almost evenly spread out seasons. It’s quite lovely. Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? Just theorizing what ceases to meet the eye of most people. I’m really big into the capabilities that the brain hold so I like to express that in my work. I also really really enjoy women I guess. They’re magnificent creatures. What 3 words would you use to describe your work? Light and Dark Do you have any upcoming projects planned? Where do you live? We’re both from Miami, currently living in NYC. What is life like living there? It’s great! There’s never a time when you don’t have something to do. We’ve been very lucky and have been getting a lot of great opportunities in NYC, and working with some of our favorite artists.

Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? Lately, we’ve been into planning our shoots as much as possible. We always have folders with inspiration photos for the mood of the shoot, and once we’ve gotten a folder to an overwhelming amount of photos and written ideas, we decide we’re ready to take those photos!

In the next 12 months, what are your plans and where would you like to be? No idea! We would love to get out to LA this summer and work commercially for a bit, and we’re thinking about studying abroad next year but we haven’t decided yet. We could basically be anywhere in the world in the next 12 months, but a place for photo opportunities is basically our biggest priority!

What 3 words would you use to describe your work? Colorful, nostalgic… girls?

Anything else? No I think that’s about it, thank you so much!

Do you have any upcoming projects planned? Yeah we’ve got a few lined up! What do you do for fun? Take photos…Haha other than that we love going to concerts! NYC is the best for shows! If money was not an object where in the world would you like to travel to? Tokyo!

Chatting with

for Renegade

Where do you live? I am a bit of a nomad these days. Staying with friends here and there. Currently in Sofia, Bulgaria. What is life like living there? The poorest country in the EU, wracked by political instability, strikes and demographical collapse, yet 24h club life, 16 y.o. girls strip naked for a bottle of cheap rum, 6L engine cars with dimmed windscreens on every corner and grotesque grimaces pumped up with Botox Can you tell us about your thought process in regard to your work? I am interested in visual mnemonics and the way we remember, imagine and dream. Throughout our shared experience of mundane, repetitive tasks, the things that stick and stay with us for some time to come are the out of the ordinary events. We seem to be evolutionary hardwired to remember the gruesome, the bizarre, the surreal, the sexual & the humorous. Based on these my fascination and interest lies in the visual portrayal of characters, spaces and atmospheres soaked in idiosyncratic, whimsical and ethereal motifs. Recently I’ve been also interested in the importance of humour. The playful, childlike curiosity and approach to life is probably the only thing I wish to take seriously. What 3 words would you use to describe your work? Cloud cuckoo land

Visions.

Do you have any upcoming projects planned? I do but first and foremost I’d like to meet more people to get to know and collaborate with. What do you do for fun? Climb, swim, scream. If money was not an object where in the world would you like to travel to? Probably would start with Japan & Mongolia. Where can we find you? (blogs, Vimeo, youtube, facebook, Twitter etc) Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ yo_vo Tumblr: http://yo-vo.tumblr.com/ Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/flimflam Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ yovo.yowie In the next 12 months, what are your plans and where would you like to be? Get shit done, keep travelling and lose some long lasting personal fears. Anything else? I thank you for this opportunity and for publishing such a great collection of visual material through your magazines. I also want to wish you all the best with your work and to keep inspiring people!
