Ground broken for new English Avenue park
Nearly 200 volunteers turned out last month for the groundbreaking for Lindsay Street Park, the first for the English Avenue neighborhood.
Volunteers from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation rolled up their sleeves and cleared brush, debris, and invasive species on the future park site. Later this spring, neighborhood residents will begin construction on the park.
Besides having a new greenspace in the community, the project will have measurable economic impacts for residents throughout its construction and management, including workforce training, temporary jobs, and a creek that no longer spills sewage into nearby streets and homes.
The park will feature a playground, children’s garden, a trail along Proctor Creek and rain gardens.
Funded in part by a grant from Blank Foundation as part of its mission to help rebuild and preserve communities near the new Falcons stadium, The Conservation Fund acquired an assemblage of six properties in English Avenue to create the park.

Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, May 20, for primary elections to decide which Republican and which Democrat will square off in various races in the general election this November.
There are a number of crowded races this year, including newly-formed Fulton County Commission Dist. 3, which has four Republican candidates: Lee Morris, Alexander Palacios, Cory Ruth and Bernie Tokarz. There is no Democratic challenger.
For Fulton County Commission Dist. 5, there are five Democrats vying for the seat: Marvin S. Arrington, Jr., Dell Byrd. Johnnie Gordon, Brenda J. Muhammad and Kwame Thompson.
The U.S. Senate Seat has seven Republicans and four Democrats in the mix, which will probably lead to a runoff in July. Similarly, the race for State School Superintendent is overflowing with nine Republicans and six Democrats.
