Readers recommend Intown’s best barbecue joints

By Collin Kelley INtown Editor

In June, we sent out a call via social media for you to tell us about the best barbecue joints in the city, and you responded via Twitter, Facebook and on our website. We rounded up the Top 10 (in no particular order) suggested by our readers. Don’t see your favorite ‘cue and stew restaurant? Be sure to use the hashtag #INtownBBQ and tell us on Twitter at @ATLINtownPaper.

Fox Bros.

“Fox Bros is simply outstanding,” said Kim Openo. “The best of the best, I save for once a year around my birthday is a grilled pimento cheese sandwich that would make you want to slap yo’ Daddy!”

B. Andrew Plant agreed: “Tasty ‘cue and terrific sides. Especially love the pulled pork, their take on mac ‘n’ cheese and the tiny tasty corn muffins with jalepenos!” 1238 DeKalb Ave.; foxbrosbbq.com.

Bone Lick

Bone Lick on Huff Road got lots of love, especially on Twitter. “Bone Lick has the best Brunswick Stew – very meaty with chunks of pork,” said Norma Driebie. 1133 Huff Road; bonelickbarbecue. com.

DBA Barbecue

Carol Simmons told us on Facebook that DBA has been a favorite for years. “Smoked with love, and a great atmosphere, it’s southern BBQ joint with just a touch of class. The sweet sauce is my favorite – just the right amount of sweet/spice/tang. I could keep going, but I’ll let you get over there and try it out.” 1190 N. Highland Ave.; dbabarbecue.com.

Moe’s Original BBQ

“Moe’s Original BBQ in Midtown by Georgia Tech is awesome,” said Mary Davis. “They serve Alabama BBQ with tons of awesome Southern side dishes. Best in town!” Lots of folks agreed with Mary on Twitter. 349 14th St.; moesoriginalbbq. com.

Daddy D’z

“Their ribs are true cooked low and slow ribs; no par boiling, no time in an oven, just moist with a great smoke flavor and a rich, thick sauce that makes ‘em even better,” said Bud Carter, who also had high praise for Daddy D’z sweet tea. “They’ve turned this standard issue commodity into something better than anything other than a cold beer. Not only the best Intown, but likely in the metro area.” 264 Memorial Dr., daddydz.com.

Fat Matt’s Rib Shack

An Atlanta institution, Fat Matt’s has become a go-to spot for ribs with a side of blues music. The pulled pork sandwich and Brunswick Stew are the stuff barbecue dreams are made of. 1811 Piedmont Ave.; fatmattsribshack.com.

Anna’s BBQ

Editor’s choice: This new-ish spot in Kirkwood has become one of my favorites because of the tender pulled pork, excellent sauce and a delicious array of sides like mac ‘n’cheese, baked beans, green beans and perfect cornbread muffins. 1976 Hosea L. Williams Drive.

Sweet Auburn BBQ

“I’ve really loved Sweet Auburn BBQ in Poncey-Highland lately,” reader Benjamin told us on our website. “Though not a common BBQ item or one that is more traditionally served, I’m really into their smoked wings. Super smoky and made even more flavorful by the sauces.” 656 N.Highland Ave. and at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, 209 Edgewood Ave.; sweetauburnbbq. com.

Community Q

“Great brisket and my go-to for pulled pork,” said Walter Czachowski of this favorite joint in Decatur. 1361 Clairmont Road; communityqbbq.com.

The Greater Good

“The Greater Good has fantastic pork, chicken, ribs and great sides, too!” Bonnie Wolf told us on Facebook. There’s one in Buckhead and another location in Tucker if you happen to be out that way and craving some ‘cue. 4441 Roswell Road; greatergoodbbq.com.
