Honeywell to bring software innovation center to Midtown
Honeywell Corporation has bought the former Bank of America building on Peachtree Street and will bring more than 800 jobs in technology, software development and manufacturing to Midtown.
The company is investing $19 million to create a software innovation center that will provide 730 full-time jobs in software engineering. One hundred more jobs will be in the company’s global headquarters, also located in the Bank of America building. Most of the jobs will be in product software development.

“When innovative companies such as Honeywell choose to locate in Georgia, it is a testament to the state’s thriving technology sector and business-friendly climate,” Gov. Nathan Deal said on Sept. 12 during a press conference. “The University System of Georgia was instrumental in attracting Honeywell to our state and will continue to develop a strong workforce to meet the needs of innovative high-tech companies. Honeywell’s investment will maximize the technologyoriented talent of Georgia’s workforce and speaks to the state’s reputation as a premier destination for job creators.”

McKibbon Hospitality and Coro Realty Advisors will build a new, 186-room, 108,659 square feet Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton along Piedmont Road in Buckhead. The hotel will be located in the present shopping center named Buckhead Place, which is anchored by LA Fitness, Marshall’s, Pier One, Hyatt Place and the 05 Buckhead apartment tower. The Hampton Inn & Suites Atlanta Buckhead Place will front on a private access road that runs to Piedmont Road.

Huff Harrington Home is relocating to 3850 Roswell Road in Buckhead in October. The light and airy 5,000-square-foot store will offer more space to display Huff Harrington Home’s collection of furniture, lighting and home decor.

Techstars Atlanta, in partnership with Cox Enterprises, has selected 10 companies to participate in the program’s 2016 class. The inaugural program kicked off in August for 90 days. The goal of the program is to accelerate startup companies, along with their products and services. The Atlanta companies selected are LaaSer, a tech company that has created software to make sure 911 calls placed via cellphone provide the correct address, latitude and longitude to operators; Real Meal Delivery, which delivers fresh, made-from-scratch meals daily; and Sequr, visitor management system for communities using call boxes.
Plans to restore the Harp Transmission Service building next to Oakland Cemetery on Memorial Drive have taken on a decidedly modern twist. According to Curbed Atlanta, the 40-year-old building will be clad in a modern, glass-type structure and be transformed into a mixed-use space with a restaurant, retail, professional, cultural and entertainment area. Clark Property R+D and Pellerin Real Estate are partnering on the project.

Comcast has donated $10,000 to the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s Kids In Need program. The money will help provide school supplies to students across metro Atlanta whose academic success is threatened by poverty. In addition, local Comcast employees last week helped distribute the supplies from the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s Jefferson Avenue location to area schools.
