Fall and Halloween events are plentiful this month around Intown

Autumn is officially here, which means cooler temperatures and a bevy of events to thrill and chill you as Halloween approaches. Check out our guide to some of October’s offerings around Intown.

Netherworld

Named one of the scariest haunted houses in the world year after year, Netherworld is marking its second year in Stone Mountain with all new scares, plus escape rooms and a laser tag arena. The haunted house is open now through Nov. 9, and visitors will experience themed zones like “Night of the Gorgon” and “Cold Blooded.” Netherworld is located at 2076 West Park Place Blvd. Find out more at fearworld.com.

Frankenstein’s Funeral

Theatre company Found Stages will present this immersive experience at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Ponce de Leon Ave. Oct. 4-Nov. 3. The play, created by 26 Atlanta artists of different mediums, will explore Mary Shelley’s novel and its creation. Tickets are available via Eventbrite.com.

Fall Festival on Ponce

The annual event returns to Olmsted Linear Park on Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a giant artists market, children’s area, food trucks, live music and more. For more information, visit festivalonponce.com.

Oakhurst

Oakland Cemetery

On Oct. 12, the annual Run Like Hell 5K will be held, and runners (don’t forget your costumes!) can sign up at itsyourrace. com. The acclaimed Capturing the Spirit of Oakland Halloween Tours from Oct. 17-27 are already sold out but check oaklandcemetery.com for returns or late ticket availability.

▲ Atlanta Botanical Garden

The annual “Scarecrows in the Garden” returns starting Oct. 1-Nov. 3 with more than 100 kooky and creative characters perched throughout the Midtown greenspace. They’re all the creative handiwork of area schools, businesses, organizations and individuals. On Oct. 24, contestants will take part in the “Great Pumpkin-Carving Contest” from 7 to 8 p.m., while kids are invited to dress up in their best costumes for “Goblins in the Garden” on Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for storytelling, pony rides and more For more information, visit atlantabg.org.

► The Poe Experience at The Wren’s Nest

After a sold out run in 2018, this immersive experience based on stories by Edgar Allen Poe – including “The Raven” and “The Fall of the House of Usher” –returns to the West End historic site Oct. 3 to Nov. 9. Tickets and more information can be found at wrensnest.org.

Cirque du Soleil: VOLTA

Cirque brings its high-energy new show to Atlantic Station from Oct. 10 to Dec. 8 inside its own big top. Along with the impressive aerial stunts, this show features BMX riders and trampoline acrobats sure to bring extra “ooohs” and “ahhhs” from the audience. Get tickets at circquedusoleil.com.

Porchfest ► Local musicians will take over the front porches and yards of homes in the Decatur neighborhood on Oct. 12 from noon to 7 p.m. for an afternoon of concerts and community. Visit oakhurstporchfest.org for the schedule.

The public art festival returns Oct. 14-20 to a new location in the Pittsburgh neighborhood. This year’s event is being curated by acclaimed painter Fahamu Peco and the African Diasporic Art Museum of Atlanta (ADAMA). ELEVATE exhibitions will highlight issues of cultural capital, artistic ownership, cultural territory, and more. Haunted Halloween at Atlanta History Center

\There will be trick-or-treat for the little ones and more grown-up scares on the grounds of the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead on Oct. 18. Witches and ghouls will take over Smith Family Farm, wizards will make magic potions at the Swan House and McElreath Hall is transformed into an old hospital haunted by tortured souls. Little 5 Points Halloween Festival and Parade

The annual tradition will see thousands congregate in L5P on Oct. 19 to enjoy the artists market, food, drinks, live entertainment and one of the biggest Halloween parades in the South. The parade begins at 4 p.m. Costumes are encouraged. For more information, visit l5phalloween.com.

Porches & Pies

This Adair Park fall festival is set for Oct. 19 and will feature bakers competing to take home the prize for best pie in Atlanta. The festival, held at 742 Catherine St. SW, will also feature live music, an artist market and kids’ activities. The festival hours are 12-5 p.m. For more information, porchesandpies.com.

Grant Park Halloween Lantern Parade

The Grant Park Conservancy will host this stroll through the historic park on Oct. 25 from 6 to 10 p.m. led by the Black Sheep Ensemble and featuring the Krewe of the Grateful Gluttons giant puppets. Saints & Sinners Ball

Park Tavern at Piedmont Park will host the event sponsored by ALT 105.7’s on Oct. 26 starting at 8 p.m. and featuring live music, themed boozy treats, and other spooky surprises. Tickets are available at parktavern.com.

Halloween at Ponce City Market

The Old Fourth Ward shopping and dining destination is hosting an array of events in October including performances of “Sleepy Hollow” by Serenbe Playhouse, King of Pops Pumpkin Patch, Neon Nightmare party on The Roof, doggie costume contest and trick-or-treating.
