The Atlanta Celebrates Photography festival is back and bringing both international and local photographers together for exhibitions, master classes, lectures and more.

Many of the ACP festival exhibitions actually opened at local galleries in September, but the bulk of the events are happening in October, including marquee speaker Michael Stipe. The REM frontman will discuss his cross-medium work that incorporates photography, video, soundscape and sculpture and his latest book “Our Interference Times.” Stipe will speak Oct. 2, 7 p.m. at SCADShow in Midtown.

This year’s ACP festival spotlights the influence of fashion and its power as a communicative form, whether in the work of noted fashion photographers and designers like Juergen Teller and Karl Lagerfeld or in the street photography of Amy Arbus.

The 21st annual event will also feature “The Fence,” a more than 700 foot long exhibit of 40 photographers from around the world along the Atlanta BeltLine.

“ACP Open Exhibition” in partnership with Fulton County Arts Council at the Abernathy Center for the Arts is an opportunity for any photo fan to display their work in a pin-up show juried by photographer and Savannah College of Art and Design professor Forest McMullin. Prizes are awarded in 10 categories.

Now in its 8th year, “Teen Spirit” is an opportunity for teenagers experiencing chronic illness to use photography as a means of expression and escape. Patients at Scottish Rite and Egleston Hospital will exhibit work at Mason Fine Art and Events.

Longtime Atlanta and now NYC-based photographer Chris Verene will be featured in a solo photo exhibit at Marcia Wood Gallery, while Atlanta-based photographer Kate T. Parker will speak about her bestselling book “Strong is the new Pretty.” The daughter of celebrated photographer Diane Arbus and a remarkable talent in her own right, Amy Arbus will focus her lecture on portraits that move her and the stories they tell.
