Atlanta chefs Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere have opened The Federal, named after the nearby Federal Reserve Bank, at 1050 Crescent Ave. in Midtown. The menu feature a roadmap of Doty’s and Gummere’s culinary experiences from New York City to Belgium to previous Atlanta restaurants such as Shaun’s, MidCity Cuisine and Mumbo Jumbo. Chef Evan Cordes (formerly of Atlanta restaurants Cakes & Ale, Serpas True Food and H. Harper Station) has opened his first restaurant, Cast Iron, at 701-5 Highland Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward. The restaurant is open Tuesday’s through Sundays for dinner starting at 5 p.m., with brunch coming soon. The menu includes simple starters, entrees, sides, desserts and signature cocktails inspired by the jazz music of Charles Mingus. Check out the menu at castironatl.com. Jackmont Hospitality in partnership with rap star and restaurateur Chris “Ludacris” Bridges have opened Chicken+Beer, named for Ludacris’s third album, at Concourse D of Atlanta’s HartsfieldJackson International Airport.

Suzy Siu’s Baos is now open at Krog Street Market, 99 Krog Street, in Inman Park. The 420- square-foot stall offers steamed buns, seasonal sides and soft drinks. Bob Amick, owner and founder of Concentrics Restaurants, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Restaurant Association last month at their 10th annual GRACE Awards Gala held at The Delta Flight Museum.

The Pinewood in Decatur is expanding into the space previously occupied by Decatur Bikes at 248 W. Ponce de Leon Ave. The updated concept will bring a brand new façade, full service lounge area, various private dining options, extended weekend hours and refreshed menus.

Chile-base La Fête Chocolat is now open in a 350-square-foot space at Lenox Square on the main level next to Bloomingdale’s.

Varuni Napoli will open a second location at Krog Street Market in winter 2017. Like its Morningside location, the restaurant will offer authentic Italian cuisine and Neapolitan pizzas.

The Lindbergh/Piedmont Kroger at 2542 Morosgo Way is now open, and offering up quite a selection of in-store eatable options, including a Starbucks, deli, sushi bar, salad bar, juice bar, beer and wine bar, cheese shop and a bistro with prepared hot and cold meals.

Stephen Ochs and his business partner, former Falcons player Garrett Reynolds, have unveiled plans for Fetch Ice House in the Old Fourth Ward. Billed as the city’s first restaurant and dog park bar concept, Fetch will be located at 520 Daniel St. and is expected to open next summer. Fetch will feature an outdoor shipping container bar with rooftop seating, while an Airstream trailer will be transformed into a full-service bar serving beer and cocktails. Amenities will include a dog wash station, Wi-Fi, on-site parking and a membership feature for Fetch Park.

Running 17 exercise classes each week, plus private sessions with people recovering from injury or surgery, would surely exhaust an average person. Of course, Mattie’s far from average. She’s a bundle of energy who loves to dance, works a variety of music into her classes, and joins Canterbury’s walking club whenever she can, especially when they’re training for the annual Peachtree Road 10k. She says residents and staff are so much like family that she’s always encouraging people to move here.
