Report Summary The B2C Global e-Commerce Overview 2012, of which this Focus on the BRICS Countries is taken, focuses on trends, issues, data and forecasts concerning B2C e-commerce around the globe and the various regions and countries. Total B2C e-commerce sales in 2011 are estimated to have grown to '690bn, an increase of close to 20%. We estimate that growth will continue in the coming years, passing the trillion-euro mark in 2013, a year earlier that forecasted last year. The world leader in B2C e-commerce remains the USA, followed by the UK and Japan. Asia-Pacific has confirmed to be the biggest growing region in the world. China in particular is growing fast: over 130% in 2011. The mature markets in the world such as USA, UK and Japan will continue to grow slightly slower, but with still double digits between 10 and 15%. France, Italy, Spain, Russia, Turkey and Poland will be the fastest growing markets in Europe. We forecast substantial growth in Latin America and the Middle East. The number of Internet users as per the end of 2011 was estimated to be around 2.2 billion and is forecast to reach close to 3.5 billion in just a couple of years, around 50% of world population. As the number of Internet users grows and users are getting more and more confident in purchasing online, the number of e-shoppers is set to grow rapidly. UK e-shoppers had the highest spend of '2,124 per capita in 2011, followed by the Scandinavian countries. Mobile and m-commerce have certainly confirmed the break-through we saw in 2010. All over the world, in emerging as well as mature economies, the use of mobile Internet is rapidly increasing: ' m-Commerce sales in the US will reach USD 6.7 billion in 2011, a 91.4 per cent growth as compared to the USD 3.5 billion sales recorded in 2010. By the end of 2011, 26.8 billion consumers are estimated to have made at least one purchase on their mobile phone. ' eBay predicted that in 2012 mobile grow merchandise volume will reach $8 billion, 60% over 2010. ' In the UK the popularity of shopping through mobile devices is continuing to grow at remarkable speed, with sales through mobile devices penetrating the 5% barrier of total e-retail sales for the first time.
