Toilet terminal
“The moment of truth”
Dear customers, Dear readers, Budgeting carefully is about dealing with limited commodities – that is what you learn as first-year apprentice in commerce. That the factor work of all things would prove a limited commodity in some branches of industry is slowly becoming a problem for us. Our businesses have full order books – but, too few tradespeople to convert the orders into money. Simply complaining about this bottleneck will not help us in the short term. What will help is clever housing technology: TECElogo is an assistant that saves time and, as a consequence, work. And, incidentally, cuts down the complexity that chokes our work onsite, because it produces unnecessary costs and mistakes. TECElogo on the other hand is extremely simple: the manual connector system for the quick building site. No pressing tools required and now available in practically all dimensions. We are now able to solve a second problem that is closely connected to the first with new fittings – and I would like to invite you to try them out. We have upgraded our pipe systems TECEflex and TECElogo to fulfil the requirements of the new German Ordinance on Potable Water. Utilizing red brass and the high-performance plastic PPSU we have two materials that prove to be a true remedy for building client stress from the very beginning. Corrosion-proof quality that ensures you are reliably able to reap their rewards after finishing the job – and not wear yourself out with arguments but no recourse. And finally, as the passionate head of a family company I would like to take this opportunity to pick up the gauntlet on behalf of mediumsized wholesalers. We are noticing it all too clearly: the amount of customers in wholesale is becoming ever less; we are heading towards a difficult competitive environment with our eyes and ears wide open. It is quite possible that working in the trades you feel less threatened than we do at the present time. But the fact is: this affects you as well; and you also have a vital interest in healthy competition in retail. Together with a small wholesale business at your side you are able to negotiate on a level playing field. From one family company to another family company: I can assure you that your business will profit from more competition. So I ask you: take this consideration into account when you make your purchasing decisions. Today, decisions sometimes hinge on just a few cents; however, when the medium-sized structures have been destroyed – that is when the moment of truth will come.
I wish you all prosperity and successful spring trade fairs Yours

TECEsepa
New grease separator
Space-saving universal solutions when space is at a premium If there is too little space available in the cellar or storage rooms, installing a grease separator can quickly turn into a problem. Customary systems are just too big and bulky. In future, TECEsepa S, the new modular and slimline grease separator range will provide the answer. The ideal solution for restaurants, hotels and industrial kitchens: just 80 cm wide, the TECEsepa S slides through just about any door. The modular range is based on a three-stage building-block system: First, that includes the base body itself which is available in the sizes NS 2 to NS 10. Second, it is possible to add different expansion modules choosing from individual solutions or two packages – the semi-automatic cleaning package 200 and the fully automatic cleaning package 400. And thirdly the accessories, which include the sample removal devices. This makes it possible to put together a grease separator that fulfils the individual requirements of any food business. The range also includes other top-draw solutions: a hygiene flush function opens the filling unit valve at regular intervals. The prevents stagnation in the fill tubes and, as a consequence, the build-up of bacteria. In addition, the flow regulator ensures a continuous inflow of the same quantity of water – no matter what the water mains pressure. That ensures the grease separator is reliably refilled with the right quantity of water after it is emptied. The integrated agitator prevents additional water consumption: instead of flushing the grease separator with fresh water, the agitator homogenizes the layers in the grease separator before it is emptied without additional water. The base body of the grease separator is also suitable for installing in the ground. A sample removal device as well as suitable telescopic attachment provide the flexibility necessary when installed in the ground. A specially integrated assembly aid maintains the right telescopic extension for ground installation.
TECE – annual partner to the Association of German Architects The need for information and communication increases hand-in-hand with the increasing complexity of building processes – something that applies to all involved. Consequently, the BDA specifically sought out companies that stand for quality and understand architects particularly well when looking for partners for its regional associations. The Emsdetten-based housing specialist TECE is now a partner of the largest German association of freelance architects until the end of 2015. The declared aim of the BDA is to improve networking between architects and industry. The idea behind the partnerships, which were called into being in 2013, is to encourage architects to enter into intensive dialogue with the manufacturers of quality-oriented architectural products. This is to enable designers and architects to learn about innovative product solutions as early as possible. In turn, the manufacturers can profit from important experiences gained from planning and building processes. A mutual give and take mentality that, at the end of the day, will prove effective on the building sites. The reason is, the some 5000 freelancer architects and urban planners organized in the BDA are responsible for about a third of the yearly volume of building in Germany. TECE systems designed to meet the needs of architects proved a compelling argument for the BDA. Sustainable solutions and top-draw quality as
well as thought processes that architects can associate with – that is the basis for this cooperation. The association will work closely with TECE for two years. The objective is to fine-tune the experiences in planning and building processes on the architects side with the innovative developments in the field of housing technology. TECElux
Toilet terminal available in two different colour design versions
Design in white and now also in black TECElux is the new standard solution when installing the toilet in the wall. The optimized design of the toilet terminal not only offers integrated functions such as height-adjustable seats, air filter and electronic touch operation, it is also compatible with most toilet ceramics and is even amenable to the installation of shower toilets. The two-piece glass plate is now available in black – which significantly increases the options for bathroom architecture and design. A toilet range that is capable of satisfying all present and future needs of the user without necessitating significant conversions – that is TECElux. The toilet terminal thinks progressively: the discrete two-piece glass plate conceals a large inspection and conversion opening. This is where functions come together. The flush buttons are integrated in the upper glass plate, while the standard connections for the toilet ceramics are located in the lower glass plate. To date, TECE has offered the design-optimized toilet terminal version with a white glass plate. As of now, TECElux is also available in elegant black. That opens up a whole new world of design options for bathroom designers. No matter what design preferences users are drawn to – nobody has to do without the advantages of the toilet terminal. And that applies equally to private sanitary rooms as well as more sophisticated residential buildings and the hospitality industry. By adding the black colour version TECE has set the bar higher when it comes to design appeal. TECElux combines modern functionality and optimum design to form a perfect and pioneering symbiosis. In other words, the perfect product to fulfil today’s demanding aesthetic expectations and architectural requirements – and an additional highlight in the bathroom.
Make a way for the cleaning tab: it is possible to retrofit the tab chute to all TECE push plates Cleaning tabs offer a practical solution to keep a toilet clean and hygienic over time. Access to the flush system of modern cisterns is closed – disappearing behind a push plate to be concealed from the eye. TECE has now developed a special tab chute – universal and compatible with all TECE operating systems and simple to use. Cleaning tabs for the toilet ensure there is a fresh smell in the room and prevent dirt collecting all too quickly on the ceramic surface. TECE now offers
an alternative to scented blocks and tab holders that need to be hung on the toilet rim, refilled or replaced: With a specially designed tab chute TECE now ensures that in the future it will be possible to use tabs in modern cisterns. It is possible to combine the new tab chute with all push plates and cisterns from the housing technology specialists as well as the toilet terminal TECElux. It is just as easy to retrofit as it is to use.
All it takes to use the tab chute are a few simple steps. It is also compatible with all TECE flush solutions. First open the push plate.
Next, open the prominent red cover to reveal the tab chute for the cleaning tab. This offers direct access to the tab receptacle in the cistern.
4
To remove the plate, simply grasp the back of the plate and pull. Once you have removed it from the special intermediate frame, simply swivel the push plate downwards.
And this is where the cleaning tab is inserted to free its active cleaning agents and provide a fresh smell.
TECElux fresh off the press
Fresh off the press in time for the spring trade fairs: the new TECElux toilet terminal brochure. Large size pictures present different bathroom situations and application uses – from premium and guest bathrooms through to bathrooms for the target group “best ager”. This new 24 page brochure presents TECElux as a product with numerous technical refinements and facets in a contextual ambience. And the human is always at the forefront. The images reach out to underline the different personalities of the bathroom owner – across all generations.
Platzhalter Bild Broschüre, falls es nicht rechtzeitig kommt, Grafik links hier her in rechteckigem Kasten. Incidentally: if a shower toilet is to be added to this TECElux at a later date, it will still be possible to make the connections on the inside with out having to cut anything open.
TECE practical tip TECEprofil for flexible connections
New universal connector with integrated ball joint The TECEprofil connection technique facilitates fast and reliable work at the pre-wall – and requires just a few components but no special tools. This special component solution comprising a new connector with ball joint extends options and ensures even more flexibility when dealing with difficult pre-wall situations. The advantage of this design extension: all components can now be joined to the supporting framework – and at practically any angle. Once the clamp on the ball joint has been tightened, the components remain fixed in any desired position. And: it is extremely easy to realign the components at any time to suit requirements. An example: a waste water pipe is to be fastened behind the prewall. That is only possible at an unspecified angle. Once it has been fastened using the universal connector, the integrated ball joint ensures it is possible to carry out fine alignment work at a time of your choosing.

TECEdrainline
Decades of experience – out of the kitchen and swimming pool into the private bathroom
From the mother of all shower channels The shower channel is one of the most remarkable phenomenon of modern-day bathroom architecture. Linear drainage makes it possible to design a floor-level shower using the same floor covering as used throughout the rest of the bathroom. The principle is not new. Based in Wuppertal – and today a member of the TECE Group – the stainless-steel specialist Basika (today WET) utilized channels to drain water from swimming pools more than four decades ago. The first Basika shower channel came onto the market at the beginning of the new millennium. As is the case with all current TECE products, this first channel incorporates the many years of experience gained from manufacturing drainage channels for kitchens and swimming pools. This drainage channel is something like the mother of all shower channels – its origin a guarantor for robust durability. The channel faces some tough challenges in the kitchen: boiling hot and greasy waste water is discharged from swivel stock pots and tilting frying pans via the channels. And not to forget the thermal loads from alternating hot and cold baths as well as targeted attacks from steam cleaners that put the transitions to the tiles and sealing to the test. Daily cleaning of the kitchen channels using in part relatively harsh cleaning additives must live up to the requirements for kitchen hygiene as well as health and safety checks by the respective authorities. And not to forget that amounts of different magnitudes are moved in largescale kitchens, dairies, butchers and the food-processing industry – and that via the channel. Kitchen and swimming pool channels are produced fully closed without joints and dirty corners right up to the surface of the tiles and the grate. Stainless steel is the preferred material. The grates are inserted as an upside-down “U” without any additional fastening components. That all goes towards guaranteeing a long service life, hygiene and easy cleaning.
Decades of experience with channels: TECE subsidiary Basika.
At the turn of the millennium Basika incorporated the joint-free principle of the channel and the simple design of the grate insert – and combined the channel with a continuous stainless-steel flange suitable for tiling. A model that has proven its quality for more than ten years under the brand name TECEdrainline: today, shower channels drain shower areas of different sizes and arrangements – in private bathrooms just as much as in wellness areas and swimming pools. They enclose wet zones and drain their whole surface area without a centralized gradient. Bathroom architecture has enthusiastically embraced the topic. Many details have been developed further, but like the original the closed channel body has no room for leakage water drainage. The reason being, unintentional or designed leakage water openings in the channel body risk capillary action drawing built-up waste water under the tiles. The consequences are unreachable nests of gunk and bacteria between the tiles and the channel, which begin to smell unpleasantly. That is not what you want in a kitchen – and that is what you don’t get in the bathroom if our channel principle is utilized. Challenging test – passed: Overflow channel in public swimming pools.
Success in large kitchens, accomplished in bathrooms...

1970
2002
Today
Basika – today a subsidiary of the TECE Group – has installed its channels for swimming pool drainage in countless projects since the 1970s. Kitchen channels followed.
Basika introduced the first shower channel “Lineo” as a series product to the market in 2002. 30 years of experience gained in kitchen and swimming pool projects went into the channel.
Based on the principle of the stainless steel specialist Basika more than a million shower channels have since been installed under the brand name TECEdrainline.
And even after ten years in use, it is easy to clean, hygienic and leak-proof: A TECEbasika shower channel “Lineo” from 2003 goes head-to-head with the daughter of the house.
Put to the test: Ten Years Life with the shower channel In 2003, the shower channel was a topic known only to an architecturally interested minority – at that time before it became a TECE subsidiary Basika marketed a stainless-steel channel under the brand name “Lineo”. The new product was based on the experience gained by the stainless steel specialist with drainage channels in large kitchens and swimming pools – and was a version of this channel for installation in private bathrooms. The clients in our customer testimonial (photo above) had seen the product at a trade fair and were enthusiastic about the idea of installing a uniform bathroom floor construction in the shower area. The channel was installed in the screed of the old building; the clients chose an anthracite coloured industrial coating system made of artificial resin as a floor covering. The upshot after some 7300 showers (two showers per day): no problems. Cleaning intensity: the stainless steel grate is taken out every two to three weeks and the joint-free channel body is wiped clean with a damp cloth. Clean through and through. 30 years of experience are incorporated in the current product range of TECEdrainline shower channels.
Future Decades of experience have gone into TECEdrainline – and so it continues: proven in the field, driving innovation.
Challenging test in large kitchen: Success in kitchens, accomplished in private bathrooms.

Butyl sealing tape certified Seal System now also verifies alkali resistance
Added peace of mind – for designers, tradespeople and final customers Seal System is a large-scale row of tests examining combinations of floor drains and composite sealing systems. Numerous slurry seals available on the market were tested in combination with shower channels and point drains. The aim of the initiative: guarantee reliability! Following on from 2012 when Seal System presented a comprehensive collection of certificates certifying leak-tight combinations TECE has now also had the resistance to alkalis of the rubber sealing tape certified by an independent testing institute Kiwa TBU in Greven, Germany. Alkaline solutions are produced when materials such as concrete, cement or screed come into contact with water. These alkaline solutions are aggressive and attack many materials. The Seal System sealing tape is certified alkali resistant. The initiative will again be picking up the pace in 2014: the suitability of 30 more composite sealing products are due to be tested. TECEdrainpoint S
Product additions and improvements to TECEdrainpoint S
Point drain – now tileable Tileable shower channels provide recipe for success: A special tile base for use as a cover is now available for TECEdrainpoint S. The effect: the drain optically blends in with the tiled floor. The smaller version (100 x 100 mm, picture left) consists of a frameless tile base. The element is tiled and installed. The only thing that remains visible is the all-round drainage gap between the tiles to allow the water to drain away. The point drain is perfectly integrated into the flooring pattern – and an excellent solution in particular for natural stone and ceramic tiles. For larger sizes (150 x 150 mm, picture right) the drain top has a stainless steel frame, into which the appropriate tile is laid.
Grate tiled without visible edges: the drain “disappears” into the pattern of tiles.
8
Tiled stainless steel grate: continuously tiled floor, accentuated quality.
The drain sets are also new – a super-flat DN 50 drain and a DN 50 drain with a standard sealing water height. The sets are supplied with high-quality stainless steel grate frames and two-stage membrane odour trap. (sets not pictured) A two-stage membrane odour trap is a new addition to the TECE point drains; this offers an innovative and reliable solution to tackle the problem of pipe smells in rooms in which the floor drains are seldom used. A sealing lip membrane minimizes sealing water evaporation – odours are blocked out over time. It is possible to retrofit the system to TECE point drains at any time.
Membrane odour trap now available for point drains – new and available in three sizes.
About natural stone slabs, moisture stains and impregnation Interview with Peter Bruning, Managing Director Bruning Natursteinwerk (Rheine, Germany) Natural stone in the bathroom is not entirely unproblematic. Correct? It should be general knowledge when working with natural stone that moisture stains can become a problem. What are the causes? There are a whole range of reasons: poor treatment, improper sealing, inadequate maintenance cleaning as well as necessary maintenance not carried out in good time. How do you go about installing shower channels with natural stone? All natural stone slabs that are to be laid in the shower area need to be carefully treated with a special impregnation – then most of the water will run off in droplets, which minimizes the water the stone absorbs. And proper composite sealing is required just as equally as professional silicone grouting with two-sided adhesion. This task requires a special natural stone silicone sealant, otherwise the edges of the natural stone will discolour. Does a secondary drainage opening in the channel area offer any advantages? The slits made in the bottom of the channel are of no use – on the contrary. It is true that the slits are above the sealing, but are located in the area where the bonding mortar is applied. If the flow of drainage water becomes blocked, the water first ingresses into the mortar. Once the waste water has penetrated, different substances are deposited – and they can be the cause of a musty smell. Which solution do you suggest instead? The closed channel body is the best answer. If necessary, leakage water openings in the channel body should be sealed off. Our experience with TECE channels has been good. With Seal System they offer a powerfully adhesive and easily processed sealing system. We fundamentally always apply a rear sealing consisting of an epoxy resin component to floors, steps and wall tiles in wet areas. In doing so we prevent any possible moisture staining becoming visible at a later date. Because moisture can no longer rise from the area where mortar has been applied. The surfaces of the stone slabs dries evenly. Our experience tells us we are right: to date, we have not received one single complaint due to moisture stains. Peter Bruning, stone mason and master sculptor
TECE practical tip
Protective plugs
Intelligent two-fold use Intelligent toilet flushing technology – TECE does not need to be asked twice, and has now developed the protective plug for the toilet with twofold use. During the shell construction phase the protective plugs protect against dirt entering the pipes – both the flush pipe as well as the connection to the drains. That prevents day-to-day dirt or stones on the building site entering the system and damaging the sealing surfaces. ( ) The protective plugs are simply inserted into the flush pipe and the drain bend during bare-wall installation and sawn off flush using a saw. ( ) After
cutting, the rest of the protective plug remains in the wall to reliably prevent dirt entering the system. ( + ) To date, these plugs had to be removed and disposed of – now, the projecting plugs are simply cut flush to the surface of the wall during the fine installation phase and remain in the wall. In that way they act as discharge pipes if a leak should occur in the sealed area. In the event of a leak the water then visibly runs out on the wall – rather than flowing unnoticed into the pre-wall installation.

TECEflex + TECElogo Pipe systems extended
Fittings of huge dimensions More stringent limits apply to lead in potable water since the end of 2013 – a year ago TECE began offering metal fittings made of red brass (as recommended by the German Federal Environment Agency) for its pipe systems. This potable water installation classic is now being supplemented with fittings made of the high-performance plastic PPSU. Both red brass (used, for example, for wall discs and adapter nipples) and PPSU (used for connection fittings such as couplings and T-pieces) fulfil the new requirements of the Ordinance on Potable Water – while combining both fittings facilitates cost-optimized installations. Now TECE is adding two sizes (32 and 40 mm) to the PPSU range for TECEflex. TECE is also adding larger sizes (up to 63 mm) to the TECElogo range, proving the connector system fulfils the demands of professionals. Product manager Andreas Lösing: “TECElogo now offers designers and tradespeople a complete assortment – from the tap connection through to the rising pipe.”
No fire through the wall or ceiling To date, it has only been possible to use the Rockwool pipe shell RS 800 to thermally insulate TECE’s multi-layer composite pipes. Following intensive fire protection tests the pipe shell can now also be used as fire bushings R30 to R120 for TECEflex and TECElogo composite pipes. That is verified by a general building inspectorate test certificate (AbP) issued by the MPA (Civil Engineering Materials Testing Institute) based in Braunschweig, Germany. The advantage: the installing tradespeople no longer need to change materials at the wall and ceiling openings. That saves time and money. The building component combination consisting of RS 800 and TECE composite pipe resists a fire for at least 120 minutes – and as a consequence offers the highest fire resistance rating (R120). The aluminium-clad pipe shell RS 800 is suitable for use with all size 16 to 63 multi-layer composite pipes offered by TECEflex and TECElogo.

TECE object report
Professionals in object management: intelligent housing technology installed in science park
The Science Park is being built on the site of the former Scharnhorst barracks in Osnabrück, Germany - it will include an innovation centre, residential area and a new office building for pbr Planungsbüro Rohling AG. TECE products installed in this large-scale project include flushing technology, floor heating and pipe systems. 1400 square meters of office space for 200 jobs: the team at pbr Planungsbüro Rohling AG looked to install technical building equipment that fulfils the highest demands for comfort with the lowest energy consumption. The designers found a reliable partner in TECE. The newly constructed building features various TECE pipe systems as well as pre-wall and flushing technology: TECEprofil universal
modules and TECE connection units for toilets, urinals and washstands. Then there are the tried and tested concealed cisterns, TECE urinal flush valves and TECEsquare push plates. For the potable water and heating installations TECE also supplied some 1000 meters of TECEflex pipe systems ranging from 16 to 63 millimetres in size. The decision makers were convinced by the bucklingresistant plastic pipe and axial pressing technique principle. And 20 kilometres of TECEfloor size 16 underfloor heating pipes were laid throughout the whole of the building. For pbr AG the most important aspects of the technical concept and choice of material were innovation and sustainability. Put succinctly: science part with innovation centre – in the end, how the building is used became a statement for the housing technology installed.
TECEfloor
Tacker board 10plus
Simply install an insulation board... Reliably installing floor insulation in line with best practice is sometimes a time-consuming and risky task akin to piecing together a difficult puzzle. The tradespeople are responsible for impact-sound insulation, thermal insulation and the structural integrity of the screed. The new TECEfloor tacker board 10plus has the answer: Just 10 mm thin, the folding tacker board is laid on top of the on-site insulation. Then the size 14-17 underfloor heating pipes are fastened to the boards. Special tacking needles are used for this task. The TECEfloor tacker board 10plus is universally suitable for laying on all forms of insulation – and is optionally available with an adhesive underside.
Stylish thermostat controls to a degree When developing the new TECEfloor wall-mounted thermostat focus was not only placed on up-to-date technology but also on an aesthetic design. Boasting a diameter of about ten centimetres and a height of some three centimetres the TECE thermostat can be mounted on a flush mounting box or directly onto the wall. The special appeal of this device is the three-millimetre thick glass cover, which is offered in a variety of colours and gives the surface of the device a high-quality finish. Moreover, numerous well-conceived functions have been integrated: The TECEfloor thermostat can switch between heating and cooling via an external signal – a so-called change-over function. In addition to thermal recirculation technical features include pulse width modulation. The thermostat is designed to respond to a control oscillation of just 0.3 Kelvin. And no matter if the standard wired 230 V or the wireless version is installed: it is possible to combine the TECEfloor wall-mounted thermostat with a variety of electronic variants.
