espite global financial uncertainty, many people are still planning to spend on travel in 2023. A recent survey from Booking.com found that 73 percent of respondents were more optimistic about travel than they were in 2022. The survey also studied why people are looking to travel, and the most popular type of vacation was a nostalgic getaway, which 88 percent of travelers planned to take
in 2023. That’s likely due to people looking back to the days before the COVID-19 pandemic with a strong sense of appreciation. Individuals also seem to see travel through a somewhat therapeutic lens, as 42 percent of survey respondents indicated they want a break that focuses on their mental and physical health.

he excitement of an upcoming vacation can be eclipsed by the frustration and stress that sometimes results from air travel. While vacations are often intended to alleviate stress, the sheer task of getting to a destination can compromise that goal. Traveling by air can be an ordeal for a variety of reasons. Busy airports can be challenging to navigate, especially when pressed for time. There’s also the possibility of lost luggage and the anxiety that comes with going through TSA and potentially customs if you are flying internationally. Of course, some people are simply nervous about flying as well. The good news for reluctant air travelers is that there are many ways to cut down on the stress surrounding flying.
· ENROLL IN TSA PRECHECK.
· WEIGH BEFORE YOU GO.
Paying extra for luggage is no fun. Measure luggage and put it on a scale before heading to the airport to make sure it does not exceed size and weight limits. Account for any souvenirs or items that you may bring home as well.
· GET A TRAVEL PERKS CREDIT CARD.
Certain credit cards enable you to earn not only points toward travel miles and discounted flights, but also some additional benefits. For example, you may be able to enjoy priority boarding if you are a cardholder or gain access to special member lounges while you wait for flights. These perks can go a long way toward making flying more comfortable.

ouples have different ideas regarding what makes a great honeymoon destination. Some couples may want to spend their trips with toes in the sand as they relax on a secluded beach, while others might want to traverse rapids in a tandem kayak. With that in mind, couples looking for inspiration can consider the 10 most popular honeymoon locales as determined by a recent survey from Expedia.com.
UNITED KINGDOM:
This might come as a surprise, but the most common honeymoon destination in 2022 was actually multiple destinations across the United Kingdom. A multi-city train trip through various parts of England and Scotland was the most popular honeymoon trip in 2022.
DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES:
Honeymooners looking for something upscale can consider Dubai, which combines sun and sand with unrivaled luxury.
PARIS, FRANCE:
Little needs to be said about this European city considered one of the most romantic locales in the world.
FLORIDA:
3191804-01
dreamtravelshow.com For FREE Tickets and more info
Pristine beaches, awe-inspiring sunsets and seemingly endless sun and warmth made Florida the fourth most popular honeymoon destination in 2022.
LOS ANGELES:
Los Angeles truly has it all, with sun-soaked
beaches, world-renowned restaurants and, of course, Hollywood.
MADRID TO SEVILLE, SPAIN: Couples who want to make multiple stops can consider this popular option, which takes visitors from Spain’s capital and most populous city to one of its most historic and unique destinations.
ROME, NAPLES AND AMALFI COAST, ITALY:
A tour of three of Italy’s most wondrous locales needs no introduction, which is undoubtedly why these three places were a must-visit for many honeymooning couples in 2022.
ST. LUCIA:
An idyllic island country in the eastern Caribbean, St. Lucia was recently named as one of the best places to visit in 2023 by Tripadvisor.
ICELAND:
Iceland has experienced a tourism boom in recent years as more and more people have discovered the unique beauty and extraordinary culture of this island nation in the North Atlantic.
THE MALDIVES:
An archipelagic state in South Asia, The Maldives has the lowest elevation of any country in the world, which means its temperatures are always hot and humid, making this an ideal stop for honeymooners who can’t wait to relax on a sunny, idyllic beach.

ith so much land and a wide variety of terrain, North America is an ideal place to take to the open road. Indeed, car enthusiasts have answered the call of the open road since automobiles became a vital part of people’s lives decades and decades ago. Road trips remain a fun and popular way to travel. With so many miles of highway ahead of them, drivers can consider this list of notable roads in North America as they plan to see some sights from behind the wheel.
Notable roads to drive in
NORTH AMERICA
· HIGHWAY 12 (UTAH):
The unique landscapes of the American southwest are on display along Highway 12 in southern Utah. Along Highway 12, road trippers can motor their way through national parks while taking in breathtaking natural views and the region’s distinct slickrock.
· LAKE SHORE DRIVE (CHICAGO): 3191830-01
CRUISE PLANNERS The Traveling Buddies is a full-service travel agency.
· PACIFIC RIM HIGHWAY (VANCOUVER):
A truly engaging experience awaits visitors to Vancouver’s Pacific Rim Highway, which features the stunning natural beauty Canada is known for. Ancient rainforests, awe-inspiring mountain ranges and sandy, secluded beaches are just a handful of the sights to see along this breathtaking stretch of road.
Whether you want to go by sea, land, rail or even space! We can plan your vacation for you. Would you like to take a river or ocean cruise?
· GREAT RIVER ROAD (UNITED STATES):
Maybe stay at an all-inclusive resort or go on a escorted vacation to Europe? Or would a train ride be more to your liking? Whether it be here in the USA, Europe or anywhere we can find the vacation for you.
Though this 15-mile stretch of road won’t make for a long journey, it’s definitely one to take in when visiting the Windy City. Drive along the shore of Lake Michigan, looking out one side of the vehicle to take in its sandy shores and the other to see the stunning Chicago skyline.
All you will need to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy your trip!

of the Mississippi River. There’s plenty to take in on this stretch of scenic roadway that snakes its way through 10 states.
· HIGHWAY 60 CORRIDOR (ONTARIO):
The Highway 60 Corridor passes through the southern portion of Algonquin Park. Geological formations, pristine rivers and expansive forests are just some of the stunning natural features and idyllic settings that await drivers who take to the corridor.
· HIGHWAY 50 (NEVADA):
Though it might seem impossible in a nation with more than 330 million residents, there are still places in the United States where drivers can feel alone and isolated. Perhaps nowhere provides that feeling of solitude better than the stretch of Highway 50 in Nevada. Pony Express stations and other abandoned relics of a bygone era are just a few of the sights to see on this lonely stretch of highway that provides stunning views of the southwest’s signature expansive skies.
· HIGHLAND SCENIC HIGHWAY (WEST VIRGINIA):
Drivers who take to the Western Scenic Highway in West Virginia will gain a greater appreciation for the late John Denver’s hit song, “Take Me Home, Country Roads.” The Highland Scenic Highway snakes through the Monongahela National Forest, which boasts more than its share of breathtaking views. Road trippers should know that the U.S. Department of Agriculture strongly discourages traveling the road between November and April, as conditions can be especially treacherous in winter.
Drivers with plenty of time on their hands can traverse the Great River Millions of miles of highRoad, which is a collection ways with breathtaking views of state and local roads await road trippers throughthat follow the course out North America.

acation time is included in many full-time professionals’ benefit packages. Too often, however, employees feel that personal time off is a luxury they cannot afford to use. When looking at vacation as a necessity rather than a luxury, workers may be more inclined to start planning time off. The Harvard Business Review reports that data supports the notion that those who take more than 10 days of vacation are 30 percent more likely to receive a raise. Those who vacation often have greater job satisfaction. The World Health Organization found working 55 hours or more per week was associated with a 35 percent higher risk of stroke and a 17 percent higher risk of dying from heart disease than a standard work week. Studies have found that taking regular vacations may help reduce the risk for metabolic syndrome, which raises an individual’s risk for various diseases. People have different choices when planning vacations, and that includes a bevy of lodging options. The following is a breakdown of the types of properties vacationers can choose from.
· RENTAL BY OWNER: Vari-
ous companies facilitate the relationship between rental owner and renter. These include Airbnb, HomeAway and Vrbo, among others. These properties are standalone or in shared buildings. They’re frequently large and feature cooking spaces and multiple bedrooms, and typically do not come with the extra fees that some other vacation accommodations may tack on, such as paid parking.
· BED AND BREAKFAST (B&B): A B&B rental is in a
· HOTEL: A hotel is one of
the more familiar vacation rentals that customers may encounter. They traditionally are large buildings that house many rooms. Shared spaces can include restaurants, gyms, pool areas, bars, and conference spaces. Some meals may be included in a hotel stay, like a continental breakfast. Perks may vary depending on the property.

· MOTEL: Motels are smaller
and tend to be less luxurious than hotels. However, they can include basic accommodations that are perfect for short-term stays or breaks from long drives.
· ALL-INCLUSIVE: All-in-
clusive rentals generally are housed inside resort facilities. One price tends to cover the room, meals, activities, and sometimes even spirits. All-inclusive properties can cater to adults only or families. If the desire is to drop your bags and relax, an all-inclusive resort may be a place to consider.

· TIME SHARE: Technically
not a rental, a time share, according to Investopedia, is a shared ownership model of vacation real estate. Multiple purchasers own allotments of usage of a property, which means they are allowed to use the property during certain times of the year - typically one-week stays. Those who purchase a time share may be restricted to one hotel or condominium, or those part of a larger company may be able to mix and match stays among a number of different properties for their designated weeks.
Vacation rentals enable people to get away throughout the year, which is good for individuals’ overall health and can even help them be more productive at work.

private home or inn. While accommodations may vary, one may get a private bedroom in the residence that may or may not include a private bathroom. B&B accommodations are smaller in scale than hotels, but offer a measure of personalized attention. B&B staff can help plan excursions and give opinions on attrac-
tions or restaurants in the area. As the name implies, breakfast is likely included in the stay, but guests may need to ferret out other meals.

lose your eyes for a moment. Imagine fallen leaves crunching beneath your feet just as a cool whisk of mountain air rolls through the valley. Notice the warm light dancing through the Catskills’ crimson colored trees. Breathe deep. You can almost smell that notorious scent of fall in the Northeast. The hiking trails are shaded by a canopy of tangerine and ruddy hues and the local bakeries envelop you with the sweet smell of freshly baked apple cider delights. Now open your eyes and ask yourself: How long must I dream about this place before I hop in the car to experience it for myself? To that we say - where winding roads run, excitement is sure to follow. Bellied up to the mighty
Hudson River and home to the highest peaks in the Catskill Mountains, the Great Northern Catskills have been a nature loving haven for well over a century. Among these 288,000 Forever Wild acres, hikers happily find respite from the rest of the bustling world. Conquer a challenging 21.8 mile hike across Devil’s Path or take to the Mountain Top Arboretum’s living museum of trees and shrubs for a more relaxed walk through the colorful woods. If you’re looking to get even more elevated, watch the valleys’ morning mist lift from Greene County’s panoramic five-state lookout or soar 3,200 feet above the treetops at Windham or Hunter Mountain’s scenic skyride. There’s no fall foliage view quite like it. If you want a tru-

It was built on old railroad beds and canal towpaths; remnants of the old Erie Canal can be found in numerous places. Schenectady was first settled in 1661 when the area was part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland. It was chartered as a city in 1798. The city was once known as “The City that Lights and Hauls the World” — a dual reference to two prominent businesses in the city: the Edison Electric Company (now known as General Electric) and the American Locomotive Company.

n a world full of busy streets and crowded stores, there’s something appealing about quaint main streets, cozy cafes, and miles of wide-open spaces. New York’s legendary Sullivan Catskills is one of those places, and you can be there in four hours or less from Western Massachusetts and the Boston area. The small town of Bethel— also home to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, site of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair— was recently named by USA Today as ‘One of the 12 Best Mountain Towns to Visit for Fall Foliage.’ Other charming small towns include Narrowsburg, Callicoon, Livingston Manor, Jeffersonville, and Mountaindale. Each has its own charm, and you’ll love the low-key vibes. Narrowsburg and Callicoon
both overlook the Delaware River. Grab a breakfast sandwich and a latte, then take a raft, kayak, or canoe down the river. It’s a perfect way to see the foliage. In Callicoon, watch for the grand opening of Black Walnut by The Farmhouse Project, a mercantile, lounge, and dining space, where you can shop for handmade homewares, hang with friends, and sip seasonal cocktails, local wine, and food. In Mountaindale and Livingston Manor don’t miss the pizza at The Dale and Kaatskeller. A new player in the wellness space this fall is Hemlock Neversink, a project of the team at Foster Supply Hospitality (Kenoza Hall, The DeBruce, and The Arnold House). Hemlock Neversink sits on a 230-acre proper-
ty formerly known as the New Age Health Spa. Now, reimagined by the FSH team, the facility invites guests to an all-inclusive experience with 12 treatment rooms, a
meadow-view gym, an indoor pool and hot tubs, saunas, a steam room, a sun deck, and a relaxation room. There is a goat sanctuary on the property that will offer guests the
opportunity to connect and engage with the animals and each other. Outdoor trails are plentiful, and creative craft and workshops promise rejuvenation, self-discovery, and

It’s about achieving happiness, having fun, and feeling restored.” No visit to the Sullivan Catskills would be complete without a tour of the 60+ hand-painted dove sculptures on the Sullivan Catskills Dove Trail. Each town, village, and a few dozen local businesses host a dove, painted by a local professional artist in a Peter Max style. The trail is a tribute to the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair. You’ll find Dove Number 1 at Bethel Woods. If you visit there before the end of October, make time to visit Peace, Love & Pumpkins, an enchanting walk-thru Halloween experience. And late fall, don’t miss Peace, Love & Lights, a 1.7-mile drive-thru holiday light show. As the fall foliage takes a final bow, experience it on foot. There are dozens of trails for all levels, and Trailkeeper.org can guide you. Tusten Mountain Trail is a fan favorite, and it’s close to Cochecton Pump House, an open-air biergarten and event space in the former Standard Oil 1879 pump station. It’s seasonal and closes by the end of October. So, visit soon. The O&W Rail Trail on a bike provides a nice, easy workout. Stop by Fortress Bikes in Hurleyville to rent one. There’s a burgeoning food and beverage scene here. Seminary Hill Orchard and Cidery was named in the
MICHELIN Guide to Hotels and Dining in the Catskills for extraordinary style, service, and personality. Other noteworthy dining considerations include The Pickled Owl, Tango Café, Pasta D’Oro, Cellaio Steakhouse at Resorts World Catskills, Tavern on Main, Conover Club, The Junction, The Yarra and Northern Farmhouse Pasta in Roscoe; The Heron, The Laundrette, and Tusten Cup in Narrowsburg; Cochecton Fire Station, The Corner Piazza and The Old Homestead and Solaia. And the 2nd annual Catskill Cuisine Food Festival is coming this spring, May 10-12. The Good Taste Beverage Trail is packed with craft beer, wine, cider, and spirits. Sample the award-winning flavors while you chat with the proprietors and learn their stories. Accommodations are plentiful and unique. Men’s Journal recently named five Sullivan Catskills properties among the top 15 in the Catskill region, including Kenoza Hall, The DeBruce, Callicoon Hills and Chatwal Lodge. Full-service resorts here include Resorts World Catskills, Kartrite Resort and Indoor Waterpark, YO1 Health Resort, and Villa Roma. Vacation rentals and B&Bs are abundant, too. Don’t miss The Bradstan at The Eldred Preserve and the River House and Stone Cottage at Antrim Streamside.

L
ake George, the birthplace of the American vacation, is every winter-lover’s dream destination. With three premier ski resorts, dozens of lakes and streams that serve as ice-skating rinks or fishing hotspots, and beautiful, snowy hiking trails, Warren County will be sure to offer endless fun, especially during the colder seasons. “Winter in the Lake George Area is exceptional,” says the Tourism Director of Warren County Tourism, Heather Bagshaw. “My favorite part of winter is when the first snow falls and the visitors begin to shuffle in to experience a oneof-a-kind destination!” These visitors make sure to “ski the three” this winter: Gore Mountain, West Mountain and Hickory Ski Center. Consisting of 109 trails and four peaks, Gore Mountain in North Creek offers some of the most extensive and exhilarating runs. At its foot hills, you can also find Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. Then there is West Mountain, which has 30 trails that are fun during the day and lit up at night to keep you skiing for hours. Finally, if you’re looking for challenging snow
conditions and expert trails, Hickory Ski Center is a hidden gem that offers a vintage ski experience with all-natural snow. With a vertical drop of 1,200 feet, it’s well-known among experienced skiers. If skiing is not your thing, there are so many other winter-time activities to try. Make sure to seek out the beautiful lakes and streams that become ice fishing spots for those looking to catch trout or other fish. Those frozen lakes also become ice skating rinks that are perfect for skating or hockey. If you enjoy seeing nature at your own pace, you can snowshoe on just about
any hiking trail for a winter trek you won’t soon forget. Though there are a ton of fun outdoor activities here, it is true that winter in New York is known for its frigid temperatures. Because of
this, Warren County has a number of adventurous indoor activities that will keep you warm. Go swim at Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Waterpark, which has a Tall Timber Treehouse, a lazy river,
boogie surfing and boarding, water slides, and a lagoon. If swimming isn’t your thing, you can go rock climbing at the Rocksport Indoor Climbing Center or jumping around on trampolines at the Sky Zone Trampoline Park. There are also more traditional avenues for indoor fun, including mini gold, bowling, roller skating, laser tag, arcades and shopping. While it is one of the oldest vacation destinations in America, Lake George will still have new attractions this year. As Bagshaw says, “This year will be the first of two new attractions that are unlike any other destination in the north east, and even in New York State!” The Winter Realm is a new attraction consisting of a skating rink with a Christmas in Color light show, Santa’s Village, a freeplay snow yard, ice sculptures in igloos, entertainment and a Polar Ice Bar. There will also be a new immersive winter experience that will start in December and last through the end of winter.
