Description Leadership is the act of leading people or a group of people. Leader is a person who guides or directs others. A person whom people follow is a leader. Leadership is a social influence in which one person influences others to achieve a common objective. Leadership is not focused on personal needs; it is more focused on the needs of the people who are following and the organization that a person is leading.

Leadership styles are not something that you can try and see if they work. Rather, a leader should adapt to different situations according to the requirements of the people of an organization. A leader also adapts to the various challenges faced by the company. Effective leaders can change their leadership style according to the needs of a particular event. There are different styles of leaderships and some are discussed below.

Visionary When an organization needs a new direction or requires people to move on a desired path, then a visionary style of leadership is required. Visionary leaders give people opportunity to innovate and experiment. They need to tell people where they are going but not how they will get to their goal.

Affiliative Affiliative style of leadership is very important for implementing team work culture in an organization. It synchronizes employees with each other. This approach is applicable when managers want to connect people in a team, increase self-confidence, improve communication and build trust among employees and management.

Democratic Democratic leadership is the leadership style in which leaders share the decision making skills with a group of people. It is also known as participative leadership. This style leads to better participation from employees and this leads to higher productivity. Member of a group feel more engaged and are encouraged to share more ideas. A leader always recognizes and awards the creativity.

Commanding Commanding style of leadership is commonly used, but it is the least effective. Leader who focus more on commanding leadership achieves results but at the cost of relationships with people or employees. It sacrifices employee morale and job satisfaction.

Coaching Coaching is the leadership style which is based on direct interaction with the person. The purpose is to show them how they can improve their performance and to support them in connecting their goals with the goals of their organization. Coaching is very effective for those employees who show initiative and want more professional growth, but it can also leave a negative impact on them. Employees might perceive that they are less competent and undermine their self-confidence.

Conclusion Effective leadership can help an organization cope up with times of peril. It makes a company successful. It enables employees to be more productive. Without proper leadership, organizations move very slowly and lose their direction. Leadership is also important in implementing decisions successfully. Therefore, every company must realize the importance of leadership because good leaders can even make a bad business strategy successful.
