The future of fuel – Hydrogen Cars Car manufacturers have been working on zero emission cars for nearly thirty years now. Seems like they have found the solution. This year, the Los Angeles Auto Show had on display the perfect replacement for the low carbon emitting batteries with a little change in the fuel cell’s compressor. This year, the expo hosted only two cars that ran on batteries, however, there were four cars that were hydrogen-based. In addition, there were announcements regarding the new fueling stations that would be built for these new cars. This does not mean that there will be no electric cars in the future, however, now with the introduction of this new fueling mechanism, these battery based cars are a bad bet. The four car makers whose cars were displayed in the expo included Daimler, Toyota, Honda and Hyundai. Even general motors has spent around one million dollars on the new technology research and development, and they might enter the market soon too. Whereas there are news that BMW, Audi and VW might also be rolling out the old battery technology. There is some good momentum building on the new Hydrogen based fuel-celled technology. And experts believe that it is a good sign as far as bringing cleaner vehicles to the market. Toyota bought about a new Prius based car named Mirai in the Newport beach before they displayed it at the Los Angeles show. The car is known to go zero to sixty miles an hour in nine seconds. There was a bit of lag when you hit the accelerator, however, the bug will be fixed within a short time. There is only some research and development awaiting that. Toyota already plans to sell two hundred cars in the next year, mostly within the South California region, which is the only place that hosts functioning U.S. network of stations. The new Mirai targets to sell three thousand cars all around the United States by December 2017. BMW and Toyota had been working together to make the fuel cells work. It is possible that the Mirai will also be branded and sold by BMW by the name of i5. If this stands true there will be a big German force working for these fuel-cells on the Mercedes Benz B-Class, which is planned for production in 2017. Even though the initiative is a great one, it does require another year or two for perfection. Hopefully, this plan targets to reduce carbon emissions exponentially.
