The Political, Economic And Social Impact Of Brain Drain Brain drain is emerging as a significant problem for countries across the globe. While the issue is more dominant in developing countries, it is also increasing in a number of developed countries as well implying that a number of scientists, doctors and engineers and other skilled professionals are moving to greener pastures in order to find better opportunities. Brain drain is one of the biggest challenges being faced by nations and poses a threat at political, economic and social levels. This article details on how brain drain contributes to various political, economic and social issues in a country. Political issues Countries that suffer from brain drain do not simply face a loss of professional manpower when a majority of their skilled individuals leave the homeland to settle for more developed ones. The impact is far more political than from what we originally perceived. Firstly, a brain drain represents a lack or overproduction of skilled and professional individuals in a country. It is in fact one of the most primary indicators of fundamental issues being faced by a country and its government. As more professionally sound individuals move to a region with greater resources and opportunities, the impact is also felt on the field of science and technology. According to some analysis, the net impact of brain drain has been on the increased focus on research and development in developed countries as compared to drained countries. Economic impact The economic impact of brain drain cannot be separated from the political issues. Contrary to the popular belief, brain drain does not in any way attempt to narrow the technological and developmental gaps between countries. The same is in fact a representative of the disarming economic, political and social factors in one country which in turn affects the training of a professional. In actual, the losses caused by brain drain are suffered mostly by the parent country while the developed country continues to reap all the benefits. The greater the economic turmoil of a country, the greater will be its brain drain and hence the greater the benefits reaped by the other country. Social Impact Human capital may be considered as a strategic source which has a significant contribution in framing the social factors dominant in a particular region. With excessive human capital flowing out of the economies of a country, the impact is detrimental. This “human capital flight is responsible for a plethora of social issues. For instance, brain drain of medical professionals may actually create a dearth of skilled professionals in the home country. This holds true for Philippines where a number of hospitals have closed in the recent years. In addition, the impact may also be felt on the local wage rate dominant in a country. What we need today is to institutionalize these issues so that we have definite quantifiable data to prove our point. This in turn will help governments and policy makers to better analyze the impact of brain drain. http://www.researchomatic.com/Brain-Drain-53041.html
